  • Part 4 of 5: Hunting big woods mountain bucks can be some of the most difficult hunting there is for whitetails. In this 5 part series, Beau Martonik breaks down how to scout and hunt these public land whitetails in the Appalachian Mountains that most of us call home in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, New York and more.
In this episode, Beau walks through exactly how he is using onX Hunt to find creek bottom hunting spots for the rut, why you should hunt creek bottoms, understanding thermals, trail camera setup, beaver ponds and how to setup to be successful this November on a big public land whitetail.

This was my favorite of the series so far. I'll definitely be rewatching for a refresher before archery season.

Was able to go out find some of these spots earlier this season for rifle here in PA and actually killed a 10 point 2 days in out in the big woods. No help from UA-cam but now that I've found you on here I think I'll be able to put together even better game plans from your tips.

Look for that big brown beaver 🦫. Really interesting information, that’s cool how the effect of Stillwater pushes those thermals and keeps your scent hidden. Great videos, great information

Great info!!! This will be my second deer season hunting north Georgia mountains and you’ve helped tremendously with your podcast and videos. I can’t thank you enough as I’m a public land flat lander from a agricultural area in the thumb of Michigan so I’ve been totally confused by these mountain deer.

    Beau,
I hunt the western part of PA in the same Terrain near the Allegheny River. I have been watching and listening to your stuff for awhile, great content.

Hi Beau. Great series! Was wondering why wouldn’t you hunt the valleys or drainages instead of the creek bottoms? Thanks, Rich
