I think it would be great if when yall hunt these spots in the fall yall reference these scouting videos. That way we can see how it actually played out.
Thanks for sharing. This old man is still learning after 60 years of deer hunting. I am usually covered with ticks by the time I get out of the woods during summer scouting here in Missouri.
I was just working in eastern Iowa last week. Beautiful area. I saw lots of public land with river bottoms on the map nearby too. We don’t have that so much in NY.
Lot's of us say we will use a kayak or canoe to sneak in- but so few of us, myself included ever actually follow through. I can't think of a better video than floating a nice buck out of the woods in November with a kayak. I plan to do it this year... I hope, maybe. Thanks for the video.
I love this kind of video. I live in south Louisiana where there aren't any hills, at all. I would like to get y'alls insight on big woods with flat af land.
Thank you for doing this video fellas! This is the exact layout of My Back Forty. Except I got soybeans and corn field to the outside left of my Oxbow and a more diverse Farm with pumpkins soybean squash and all sorts of other stuff to the outside right of my Oxbow. My side is the bedding.
Thanks for this video... I was hoping y’all would do a video in the series on creeks... I learned allot from it... I hunt creek bottoms here on public in Texas due to how thick it is here ... I’m gonna use these methods and try to get on more deer.. Keep’em coming...👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Lonnie Williams I’m up around Longview-Marshall Area. Public land is something I do for the challenge when I’m tired of hunting the same private over and over
DIY Whitetail ...I seen your channel and have watched a couple of videos hunting Kansas and product reviews...I’ll be watching more..I have a couple decent bucks I’m after down here.. I’ve yet to take a public land buck.. hope this is the year..
Would you guys hunt big lakes similar to ponds or to rivers? Planning to use the kayak to hit some new public land this year. Keep the awesome content coming!
Can i make a suggestion on a follow up video, you should come back in the fall to this location to hunt and continue this video showing how your scouting worked out for this particular location... .........Just a thought what do the rest of you think about this idea?
What about a shelf on a steep hill overlooking an oxbow? Would that be worth checking for a mature buck to bed? The shelf is up about 30 feet above creek and overlooking oxbow in typical hardwoods and is on the north side of the oxbow and southside of hill.
"Thus, it had begun. The tick rebellion of Zach Farenbaugh." " You see, it all started when Zach flicked a tick off of his pants leg and said: 'Oh, you think you're better than permethrin huh?' "Zach proceeded to spit on the dull creature and the war began...
Great video. I had an immediate question when I began watching it but, you sort of answered it at the end. Getting too close to the beds make me nervous but, you obviously don't have a problem standing right in them. Am I being too cautious? I'm sure it's not something you do in the same spot that often. Thanks for the great content!
100 yards is a pretty long ways in the woods. If the deer can't see you, and you can set up fairly quietly, that's plenty far enough away from them to not spook them out of their beds. I've gotten in tree's, looked around, and had sleeping deer within 50 yards. We have very quiet access to our permanent stands. Going slow and being methodical is key.
QUESTION- I know this video is 3 years old at this point and i have a question regarding river accessing public here in Iowa. Have you guys had situation where the river gets to low to float, you have to get out and walk that section before you can get back in the boat and continue down river and dragging a kayak across the rock makes a bit of noise. I have a couple of place where i use a kayak to access public but these last few years in Iowa the lack of rain has made river access difficult. Even though i am going and out in the dead of the night with the perfect wind I worry about that noise especially when i am getting close to the public land i am accessing. I am alone and these are tricky enough spots to get into without any other type of access. Do you have anything helpful tips???? If there is a video you guys have done that cover this perhaps you can help me get to it BUT if you have done a video like this perhaps you guys could make one. I REALLY HOPE to hear from you. Thanks guy, love your work.
How do you guys scout in mid summer and not sweat your asses off or get demolished by mosquitoes. In southern Ontario where we are mid summer scouting is next to impossible even with thermocell. You guys looks super comfortable and don’t seem to have the issue with mosquitos, any tips?
Hey guys... nice video. In a treestand setup like that one on the creek, it's wide open as far as getting skylighted. When you''re out in the open like that does it help to go higher in the tree?
I used to mark everything but I had so many tracks and waypoints that my Onx stopped working for over a month. Now I just drop a pin in the general area and write in bedding or something like that.
Hi guys. I scouted a creek for buck crossings the other day. There’s a spot down stream that I missed a really big six point. I know the area well, it’s open hardwoods that get really thick with swamp and big fields on each side! The deer bed in the really thick stuff on each side of the creek depending on wind. I found a set of big buck tracks right at the crossing that I had an encounter in 2016. One set of boot tracks it gets moderate pressure. The thing is the wind was a south southeast wind and was consistent. I kept checking the wind. Here’s the kicker, were I found the tracks the wind was swirling in a good 50-70 yard span. I think because of topography. There’s an interstate were the creek runs under and it’s on a big hill it runs east to west! The creek runs north to south! That ridge or hill creates one of those thermal swirls or tunnels. It’s very interesting that the buck tracks were only in that spot of the creek! I don’t think that’s a coincidence! My question is would be best to hunt on a strong wind or no wind day? Very cagey deer in this particular area and I’m stubborn
I'm from Michigan and finally drew my Iowa tag. Looking forward to hunting public from my saddle this fall. Love your videos, great work. You guys strictly hunt zone 5?
Hey guys. I have noticed in your videos you like to hunt river bottoms. There's some great bucks at a place called Schell Osage in Missouri but it's hard to get to them. Would love to see you guys hunt there. If you do.... Hit me up and let's hunt some bucks.
It's some tough Hunting in there for sure... Real swampy where the big boys are. Usually need a boat to get to the good spots, there are crop fields tho but they are hunted hard. That's why I hope they are up for the challenge.

Best video in the history of UA-cam. Thank you

Great info Zac
Great video guys! Very good info!
He’ll yes,! Great off season leaner,! , video.
Be careful out there. I stepped on a huge diamond back yesterday. Scouting. I was looking for snakes but he was hid in tall grass

Good work men
Thought it was an episode of workaholics lol gonna give hunting with the canoe a try next bow season.

*throws tick*

😂😂😂
I challenge you guys to try putting one down here in central Florida I’ll pay for your gas to get here
Is this a spot you would try to hunt in the morning on there way back to bed or catch them coming out of there bed in the afternoon?
Great video. I had an immediate question when I began watching it but, you sort of answered it at the end. Getting too close to the beds make me nervous but, you obviously don't have a problem standing right in them. Am I being too cautious? I'm sure it's not something you do in the same spot that often. Brandon Napier we see bucks come right back to them often. Main thing is to scout one time and leave it alone until you go in to hunt

Yes river bottoms!
What kind of rifles do you guys use during the season?
Great content, thanks for sharing!!
Absolutely love your videos📽 hey what do you guys use against ticks🕷
Appearently permetherine. He says it at the start of the video
Would you guys say that bucks would do the same thing near a lake? Or would it be different because they cant escape across the lake? Thanks.
I discovered today that I really do not enjoy kayaking out of a spot in the dark
😂😂😂😂

Did they ever hunt this stand?
U guys ever use 3D decoys? If so how do u guys like to set them up?
Hey guys... nice video. In a treestand setup like that one on the creek, it's wide open as far as getting skylighted. When you''re out in the open like that does it help to go higher in the tree?
It might. It depends on the tree and situation
Yall have any snakes in those parts?
GoPro question. What editing program do you use for GoPro? The breakdown was awesome!!
Yes!!!!!
Thanks for the video. I'm wondering...do you guys mark every single bed on OnX or just suspected buck beds?
I used to mark everything but I had so many tracks and waypoints that my Onx stopped working for over a month. Now I just drop a pin in the general area and write in bedding or something like that.

Very little wind on a cold clear morning with rising thermals.
Let’s go!
I'm from Michigan and finally drew my Iowa tag. Looking forward to hunting public from my saddle this fall. Love your videos, great work. You guys strictly hunt zone 5?
Awesome! No we've hunted spots across the Southern and Eastern portion of the state.
Not sure if you'll see this since it's 2 yrs later, but how did you end up doing in Iowa?
Sweet Bottom Bottoms ✌OUT later
Top notch!
I tried this w my mates and found a rusty safe we managed to open it but there was just rocks and sand in it. It was still very cool tho
When is the live podcast
Should have brought your smally rod on this video, that creek looked promising.
Haha no smallies in southeast Iowa
Maples a poor mans food plot
Head Hunter around me it persimmon trees 🤣 it’s deer crack 🤣
Be careful blindly stepping onto the blind side of dead falls Zach. You never know if a snake is curled up there for a place to hide!
Dude how many ticks you get in that wig
Im waiting for a hunt on flooded timber, swamps.
Hey guys. I have noticed in your videos you like to hunt river bottoms. There's some great bucks at a place called Schell Osage in Missouri but it's hard to get to them. Would love to see you guys hunt there. If you do.... Hit me up and let's hunt some bucks.
zach schoels Bruhhhhhh, that’s something you may want to PM next time. Enjoy the pumpkin patch come fall lol
It's all good I only go up there a few times a year to just get away and hunt. It's 4 point antler restriction up there and archery only
It's some tough Hunting in there for sure... Real swampy where the big boys are. Usually need a boat to get to the good spots, there are crop fields tho but they are hunted hard. That's why I hope they are up for the challenge.
Come down to Florida where they bed wherever they want....
What exactly is Mobotallor Secrets? How does this thing really work? I notice many people keep on speaking about this grow taller method.
