nice video.. Alot of nice deer around ya on public.. Matures bucks are rare here in Michigan especially the farther north you go. DNR manages for boards per foot not wildlife... The breeding timeline matched up with my experience hunting southern MI. Up near Kalkaska MI where i hunt now, peak is bout the 4/5 of November.
Hey, I commented on your last video. Cool to find out you are a CE. I'm a veteran and in school for CE right now. Graduating in 2025. Thanks for the video.
Well thanks for your service- we all appreciate you! and nice choice on being a civil. I work in transportation and love it. Licensed for about 6 years now. Just make sure you get ready for your EIT exam! 👊
You mentioned areas down South not having their dates quite aligned with ours. That is true, and I'd also say it is much less defined the further south you get. November 12 is peak conception date because that is what gives fawns the best chance of survival birth date. In MN if the fawns born too early, they can succumb to late winter flurries. Born too late and they might not put on enough weight to survive the following winter. Weather doesn't affect the fawn survival rates nearly as much the further south you go, hence their ruts being more drawn out and less defined
Dude Bravo to you keeping And Tracking ALL that data n those images ! Congrats on a work of Passion ! Great video great Analysis and Stats !! Continued Success 😎 plz Stay safe n God Bless 😎
I live in Southern Wisconsin and those dates are spot on in my area as well I've been hunting for 20 years and my vacation oct 28th thru Nov 12th has never failed me
Love this data driven info . Ain't enough out there . Just a lot of what works for me type stuff. Well , what works for you may not work for me . There's a lot of diff variables. But this data driven stuff I can get behind I love it! Great job! I haven't asked this cuz I didn't want to hear instructions that lead me down the wrong path and end up doing me a disservice. But I think I can ask you and I'll be ok. I live in Northern Lower Michigan. Towards the middle, upper & center of the mitten. West Branch MI . So I have been looking to find buck bedding or kind of where specific bucks like to spend there time right ? I see a huge buck in area a few times during the day and I want to know where he spends most of his time or where does he feel the safest ? So I've been looking for buck beds and I believe I've found some but when I look around I am seeing many beds in a somewhat smaller area. So this one spot I found to me is text book. No pressure zero. So far out in state land . I'd hunt it sure but I don't want to hunt inside the bed area. I e found a lot of beds and a few you can tell are full time every day beds . But my prob is ...there is many beds and the last time I went out there I saw many new fresh beds and to me it don't make sense that during the rut you would find an area where several different bucks would all bed down in one smaller area together. I'd think they would all end up fighting and not want to be together during the rut. Is that a false statement or wrong way to be thinking
I live in western Iowa, and I've hunted in Illinois, Ohio, Kansas, Nebraska, and Northern Missouri over the past 30 yrs. Ur data is dead on with all of those states, and here in Iowa. I have always seen the most big bucks from Nov. 5th through Nov 9th. Those 5 days are definitely the best in my opinion to see the biggest deer.
Good info. My last two buck kills last year and year before were November, 9th and 12th. I'm in Northern Pennsylvania. This year vacation is set for November 4-13, I will be in the tree for archery. I agree with your assessment.
Your information correlates precisely with mine here in Central upstate New York I've been studying and keeping track of movements for over 25 years Of course the advent of trail cameras has helped immensely My favorite time of year to be in the woods is the last few days of October and the first week of November when the Mature bucks are really moving ! Great video Matt My name is also Matt LOL
It's weird but your dates are really close to buck movement here in northern Oklahoma.. the days are just a few days off but really close. I don't expect bucks to start moving in daytime until Halloween on. By November 6-10 bucks are really active and breeding is going on about the same days as your chart. The DNR says peak breeding is November 15 according to their research and from my experience your days are really close to ours. Nice work 👏
Do you have a department of natural resources? If so maybe they have studies or data on peak conception dates for fawns. Then you just back the dates up from there
I like a little scent in low density areas. I use the BF Rut products. They are synthetic but work. I can only find it online. Amazon has their products.
I’ve pulled down my trail cameras before the secondary rut so I don’t have any type of data to condense that’s worth anything. However I do believe it’s a thing and I’ve seen impressive movement in early December. Not like the November rut of course. But still worth hunting nonetheless
Good stuff and jives with every study I have seen. What was the best hours of day you go these photos? I concentrate on 8 to 10 most years with 8:30 to 9:30 the sweet spot.
Very well done, thank you. I have a friend in the Park Rapids area, and hunted there once many years ago on opening day, state land. If I ever get the opportunity to hunt there again, I think I’ll wait until the second week.
It’s funny I have that graph pic in my photos! I’m in central mn- wondering when you see the 5yr plus bucks in daylight? From what Iv seen hunting Halloween is kinda the cutoff then its all the younger ones tearing around- personally I find success Oct 25-30th ballpark for shooters to be cruising! Thanks for the info I will share it!
I get a lot of the older age bucks in daylight in that last few days of October. Your question about what time of day- I just uploaded a video this morning talking about that. Thanks for sharing and good luck this fall!
Great info and a lot of work! I spreadsheet the bucks on my property from Oct 1 thru the end of December each year so I know the amount of time this stuff takes. Thanks for sharing
What great job!!! I live and hunt in Mississippi. I’m also a land owner Kansas and hunt there as well. Your data seems to match my Kansas hunts. In Mississippi my dates peak around December 18
Good video! Jesus is coming soon! I’m nearly certain there will be hunting during the millennium kingdom and probably after in the new heaven and new earth. Just think hunting with no briars or stickers.
Great information, thank you for sharing! I tend to see about the same here in PA. Seems like that third week of October is when you see daytime buck activity pick up. If you get a nice temperature drop from the last week of October through the second week of November you'd better be in the woods and ready.
Thanks for the video! I hope the rye you planted is still growing strong. I finally got some rain to get things going not too far from you. I also have plotted my daylight photos over a few less years and I have two observations that you may find interesting 1. my daylight photos plummet beginning Nov 5th. I suspect the gun opener may have something to do with that. 2nd I see a very small second surge December 1-5th . I am curious if you have ever seen that in your photos. My December 1-5 tracks close to October 25th through the 28th (so no where near October 30th to Nov 4th). Cheers
My rye is doing excellent. So is the oat over seeding. We got a bunch of rain here over the last three weeks. What a change from this summer. Yeah I’ve noticed the uptick in photos in the first week of December. I didn’t plot that on here because I’m taking down a lot of my cameras that time of year so I don’t have consistent data. I don’t get the reduction in daylight photos after November 5th though. I suspect that is due to the fact that most of my pictures come from NE MN where the hunter density is extremely low. To where I don’t think the deer really feel the hunting pressure the way they do around most of the state. Thanks for sharing your observations on this though. Gets me fired up for that golden time of year. Hope you have some luck this fall.
Awesome info bud. The rut period you talked about for northern mn is about same for my area in Michigan’s U.P. I’m basically hunting the same terrain as you. Thanks for sharing this with us. Good luck this season be safe!!
I always wondered if the daylight slowdown in October was due to a full moon. Seems like there is an October lull before things fire up to that hot time around the last of October into full rut.
I personally do see the “October lull” as a real phenomenon. I know there are a bunch of theories and debate on this. But there is definitely a slow down in the total number of daylight bucks I get on camera. It’s as though bucks get less comfortable in daylight in late September and early October.
Hey Matt, always appreciate your info. I wonder about one thing. Times of day? Is it possible for you to narrow down the times of day. I know it's a lot of work, not saying it isn't. Just would find that very interesting, an extremely beneficial. To me, you and all of us, I have no doubt. Like I said, always appreciate the info you provide. Thanks much, and as always, good harvest.😉

Looks like I'll be on the couch October 21st 😮lol. Thank for this informative. Its very fascinating
You bet- glad it helps! Good luck.
Awesome video! I would be interested to see this same data, but only including mid day movement. 11-3 or something like that.
Thanks for sharing- I’ll try to find time for that!
I live in Southern Wisconsin and those dates are spot on in my area as well I've been hunting for 20 years and my vacation oct 28th thru Nov 12th has never failed me

Timberwolf

Thanks buddy. I hope you get a nice one this fall!
What does the bars represent in regards to the # of bucks seen. Like on nov9th for instance. How many is that compared to one of the shorter bars?
Great video best of luck to you in Mn!!

Excellent information for us hunter's. Thanks for a major part of your lifetime spent in research, for all us hunter's..

Thanks for updating this info. Very helpful to correlate with my " journal" findings from central WI.

That was a Fisher
