I think the T-34 got a lucky streak here. According to a test scenario I set up, even Panzer 3s with 50mm L60 guns can consistently inflict spalling and the occasional penetration of a T-34-76. So it's hard to imagine that the Panzer 4 with the long 75mm gun would consistently struggle to penetrate a T-34. And getting into the raw technical characteristics, the Sherman actually has tougher frontal armor than the T-34, though the T-34 has tougher side armor (the T-34 has more of an all-round armor profile, where the Sherman focuses most of its armor to the front). My Shermans have occasionally managed to bounce 75mm AP rounds on a few occasions when they happened to be sitting at a wierd angle relative to the 75mm gun that was shooting at them, and I think something similar has likely happened here. That it happened several times in a row here I think is more symptomatic of the clustering that tends to happen with these sort of random events than any sort of T-34 bias on Battlefront's part.
31:55 tell that to poor old luke who got schwapped by an ap shell in the reverse fixture! strong name game again this year from the commentariat. don't know if we'll ever quite touch HeaterOnMaxSetting in those stakes, but a solid effort nonetheless. thanks for doing these hapless, and look forward to riding along with you again next year.
So 2-0 to Halloween. Tut Tut hapless you’ll have to plan hard for next years rehearsal. As for looking at what went wrong. Yeah you are quite correct either way the lack of AT on both occasions. I definitely think you took to much of the idea of this being a Red Orchestra Infantry fight into what was actually an semi-mechanised assault. - it’s notable as well that the use of AT on Halloweens defence immediately stumped your immediate go for an assault. From having a couple tanks to a couple AT guns you immediately frozen up on how to use your tanks and ended up doddling about with your infantry trying to sweep buildings in scout forces. Also notable was how Halloween set up his infantry defences against your own and how he assaulted them. In your game you tried to match a firefight with his own forces which for Germans should win but as we saw ended up quite equal due to the buildings providing that heavy cover. However, here Halloween didn’t match your squads in firefights for long but seemed to be quite quick to push overwhelming firepower on isolated units and quickly follow up against them with assaults. So instead of spending 10 minutes trying to push a squad out of a position they’d just overrun them quick and mop up on the god/with following waves. As for my final notice, I think maybe you might put to much of your points into training and not on morale. As you’ve seen through multiple campaigns - especially the Highland Corridor one there - heavily motivated/fanatic infantry even if poorly trained can easily hold a position/switch out casualties hard. So, if you really wanted to hold those buildings dearly, I think having dropped the training limit on the pixeltruppen and bumped up their morale stats may have gave you that nice mix of troops able to withstand the negative penalties of morale and surrendering quickly but also being able to put out those large volumes of automatic fire as needed when enemies got close. And also big thing with early T34 you always have to remember is they are blind. So only way to actually have them see something is to have their commander out and even having supporting squads with LoS to targets so the commanders can get easier spots. Easier said than done but having a sniper team or a command team moving alongside the tank and making sure to open it up more often even if he’s taking fire, will have given you those easier chances to spot enemies - plus it provides that small infantry support as needed.
Never been happier to be in reserve watching the other platoons assault tanks with nothing but ptrd support. Having my own pixeltruppen made me really happy thank you!
Hey Hapless! I found your chanell, searching for some CM informations, as I getting more and more interrested in this title. I find your content much informative, entertaining and pleasant to watch! Keep up your good work, my good sir! Also - greeting from Wrocław, Poland!
A shame about the T-34, especially how it died to a p-faust when you had no equivalent squad level capability. If things had went differently I feel that T-34 could've drastically changed the result of an already hard-fought battle.
Great video, Hapless! I enjoy both formats and somehow missed Rattengrieg until just a few days ago, and binge watched everything in two days! Even though you suffered defeat in both, I enjoyed your expert analysis from both games. Would love to see more of CMSF. I enjoyed that "Valleys of Death" campaign even though I know it wasn't your favorite to play. Anyway, keep up the great videos!
Bit of mirror of the other game with holloween using his tanks to good effect with yourself only taking one t34. I was wondering where he was getting all the infantry from then saw he carried out the final assault with mortar teams and hq units so it may have closer than the final result implies. Good game both.
The early Russian tanks require the crew to be opened up to find anything. They can drive ok, but they won't see anything besides the broadside of a barn while buttoned up. Gotta spot while opened up and then the crew will button up automatically to shoot the thing. I learned this playing a match against a buddy.
Given how many times I've had Shermans hit in the gunshield and lose the gun, I was expecting that T-34's F34 to get knocked out from that hit to the recuperator below the gun. I know there's no way to really get around it with the assets in the game but that many ersatz Panzer IV Gs (late) standing in for F and F2s doesn't help since even if you had 45mms, they have to get through 50+30mm of hull armor instead of just 50mm. I do think an all infantry battle would have been more interesting both games and I'm curious if you and Holoween had any discussions like that?
God, I miss RO2. It helped me practice my German more than a little lol mostly useless phrases unless I join a German foreign legion, but the bits of grammar is worth something lol also glad to see how the other side attacked. Everything is a learning experience.
That was intense.. You put up a good fight :) If the Germans had not invented armor skirts as a counter to your OP antitank rifles, they would have carried you through.. Maybe, hehe

Thang cant even fire a single at round but at least he got the spirit to swap to the mosin in the end.Looking forward to seek for more meaningful role next time
@@usuallyhapless9481 this game is great but it really needs bringing up to modern standards and making simpler to use. Tried to play it with a friend the other night and it took ages until we realised we had to use the non-lan IP to get it to work.

I really enjoy this format hap, I know it takes a lot longer time editing but oh boy is it satisfying to watch
Thanks man! I'm glad I only do the turn-by-turns once a year

Makes me wish BF did more early/mid war modules.
You're definitely not alone in that!

It's 3-1 to Holoween, actually :P
Teufelshunde, Semper Gumby, Rattenkrieg and now Not One Step Back
But yes, I'd agree with all that.
Never been happier to be in reserve watching the other platoons assault tanks with nothing but ptrd support. Having my own pixeltruppen made me really happy thank you!
Hopefully that means an offensive riding on more than a single tank and dismounts!
A great way to show off this game. Appreciate the time it must take to create this format.

Yeah, even just keeping it alive for the endgame could have made the defence a lot easier

I'm glad that Comrade Busterton and his team could contribute to the war effort by relieving the enemy of a handful of mortar bombs! :D
