  • I replace the brittle old windshield molding on a 2005 BMW Z4. Dealerships will tell you they must pull off the windshield to replace this, and charge you around $600. This cost me 45 dollars and 15 minutes to replace.

    Thanks so much for this. I have just replaced mine for £34 and it was stress free. I cleaned the roof fabric too and now it's looking like new :D

      Rich Tarquini thank you for the comment. You are 100% correct. I was worried that the windshield would need to come out but the actual process was much easier than expected. Make sure to like and subscribe.

    Thank you for the video. I commented about a week or two ago, asking you if you've sold your z4 or not. Yes, I believe I am still suffering from some water leak. According to realoem, the trim you just replaced, probably doesn't prevent water entering the front of the cabin. There are two separate windshield seals underneath the trim: one for driver and one for passenger side.

    • @JohnEngel

      Thank you for the comment. I did sell my Z4. It was a great car but lots of little issues. I hate that you are still having water issues. You might need to have your windshield resealed.

      @@JohnEngel Thank you for the response again. Yea.... most likely the windshield or the doors (from the windows) since I took out the entire back carpet and seats to observe water leak.

    Having a hard time snapping in the top section. Can't tell if the what I am seeing is just the old trim that has broken apart and has stuck there. Should the new trim snap onto the body directly like the side trim does? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  6 років тому

      JP Dizon you want to make sure that all of the old molding is out of the groove. If it's not then it will not seat itself. The molding should snap into place fairly easily.

    • @zzzzondi
      @zzzzondi 6 років тому +1

      Great thanks, so the trim should snap directly onto the body and not onto a black rubbery surface (that is prob old trim). Appreciate your help.

    • @JohnEngel

      JP Dizon correct. Once you clean it out you will see the painted body. :)

    You only used windex to remove the melted old adhesive?

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  6 років тому

      Chabacano Maximus I removed the extra adhesive that got on the window with windex. The adhesive that was still in the grove was left there as I didn't add any new adhesive. There is enough pressure to hold the trim in place but a little leftover adhesive never hurt.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Рік тому

      The only other option is to use a heat gun. This should allow you to make the seal more flexible.

    Never do this to a Z4 Coupe (E86). You'll break the windshield or at least will be unable to insert the new gasket.
