Great video, it gave me confidence to take on this project. A few caveats, it took me 3 hours with a few challenges: 1 hour to remove old brittle stripping and get the spine out. For the life of me, could not remove spine from center, had to start on end. Take your time, I scratched corner of windshield trim. 1 hour to remove old adhesive using mineral spirits with cloth, popsicle sticks and toothbrush, used Qtips to get the gunk out from inside groove. 1 hour putting in new OEM strip, didn’t see BMW part on Amazon at the time. No pull tab on strip, not a dealbreaker because they left just barely enough overlap to grab onto. Had trouble getting spine to sit flush in the middle until I figured out to press in spine with my sheath knife (handy general use tool) underneath the top flap. Another note on OEM, I compromised the surface on the ends, not sure if it’s because cheaper material but just minor damage. Everything is flush and looks right, just be persistent and patient if you run into problems. Anyone who says this is a 10 minute job doesn’t know what they’re talking about but I did save $500 and 3 hours I would’ve spent anyways trying to get someone else to do it.
Been in the businees for 26 years and in my experience this molding replacement can be done successfully if you are working on the original windshield and molding. Typically a windshield that has been replaced will be a problem because the urethane bead will be applied differently than the assembly line bead which means the urethane on the replacement will glue the new molding into place at the time of installation which typically doesnt happen off the assembly line. Also, the replacement molding may not be OEM and designed differently which is another problem. Check these things before you purchase your replacement molding.
well done. Pick tool is essential for this job to remove old trim. Start about 10 inches in from the side, do not start on the ends. Rubber rolling pin makes it lay nice....
Hey boss, My name is Andrei...that is the way to do it... I have done it this morning on my bmw , and it Looks great, thank you so much for sharing the right way to do this job
I genuinely thankyou for explaining this task as I have just ordered a new rubber for my e91 , you seem very calm and i think that's the way forward with jobs like this
For everyone that will atempt this. Is way harder than it looks to put the new one in. Mine is bent in one spot. I can't put it better. I tried everything. Maybe cuz it is an aftermarket and it doesn't fit perfectly. A tip: When I took the old one out, I pulled with the plier from one side, not from the middle like he did. It's easier this way.
Perfect on one side, problems on the other.... it was full of black, goopy glue which I didn't realise was there and jammed up the whole fitting. I've ordered another strip 😬😜
This stops from water leaking in your car right ? Just wanna make sure so if I get it I can fix that part of my car because I just got my first car and water leaking through and I think that’s the problem
I also have a x5 2013 and changed my windshield and went to safelite..big mistake! Now my rubber gasket is flapping around,I did your thing where you slide it all the way in but the other side is missing like 1.5inche..is it possible that safelite put the wrong one?!
I first got it off eBay, but it fit weird so I had to return it. I ended up just buying it off FCP euro and got a GENUINE one and it was perfect. You just have to install it a certain way.
I have a 2013 Acura TSX wagon that developed a water leak under the windshield on passenger side. I had the dealership fix it. Long story short this was done about one year ago.. and it has to go back to replace this strip for the third time..What the hell could be going wrong? Could the car wash places be that hard on it?
My 2009 Civic sedan has the exact, same issue. Passenger side leak and the trim is up a little bit on that side from the sun. I’m going to try and reglue it down myself
Basically is it okay if water comes in and stuck on the crevices between windshield and body because of your broken trim?? Is there any water leak befor you install the new trim??
Lol 😂 i have a f350 an i was driving on freeway an it sounded like a human was on my roof slapping the roof to stop 🛑 lol 😂 my stripping is different tho is just a huge piece of floppy rubber.
Great Job your lucky you didn't break the glass however I would like to know how it's holding up now. BMW moldings are shit they dry rot due to the sun and it doesn't matter if you use the BMW top molding they are defective and poorly designed that's why so many people watched this video.
Why was the strip not straight at passenger side.It looked like something had chewed end off. Also these strips lot cheaper on E-Bay,get a lot more to do other trim !!! Good vid though.
Where in the video do you see it wasn’t straight? Maybe it was the angle. And it was only around $23 for a genuine bmw one with a lifetime warranty from fcp euro so I can always replace it again for free.
Hey just fell into my bmw, 2007 328xi. It's been shuddering once warmed up between 1500-2200 rpms, any ideas? Ran carly and only thing that comes up is water pump issues, no ses light on. Worried it may be torque converter, going to have tran fluid/filter changed next week, adding some lubegard, any help would mean the wrld

Goldn Goatz 😁 thank you👍🏼
I’m so glad I came across your channel ! I have a 2009 e90, and I’m experiencing these same problems. Thank you for sharing these quick fixes 🙏🏼
Glad to help
Dude this is exactly what I needed, my e90 made the same noise...thanks for the great vid
Haha no problem! The noise was wild lol

just wondering is this works for my Nissan frontier 1998
Very helpful thank you!

Go to this website to buy auto parts, brother
@@张辉-e6p which website? I don't think youtube lets you post links so can you just write the name so I can google?
@@Agret Hello, do you have an e-mail address? I will send you the link.
is this the same to every car?
Beautiful work though.
Is this the same part for an e93? The hardtop convertible?
Shawn Martin I’m not sure

Does it actually fill in the gap where its placed on top of? Not like silicon fillings but rubber.
Yes it does
Is that a dealers part or universal?
I've been trying to find the same process for a 2008 honda civic.
did you find it out
It should be pretty similar
Same dude!! I have an 09 Civic sedan that gets a water leak on the passenger side and drips onto seat. I think I’m going to try glueing the trim down
Basically is it okay if water comes in and stuck on the crevices between windshield and body because of your broken trim?? Is there any water leak befor you install the new trim??
I don’t think any water is okay in there. And no I didn’t have a water leak before.
anyone knows what goes in between the rear hatch glass and the rear sunroof glass
How about the side ones
Can you do one on the bottom winshield so I can learn to do it
mines not broken yet lol
Thumbs up ❤
thanks
I know this is old video don't know if you well even reply but it's the same technique for all cars or just yours
should be similar to all cars

Yeah it sounds crazy😂
What is the trick to getting the little metal bar off? I am pulling it with a needle nose plier but it's not coming off. Thanks.
Pull harder lol
Yo my Pontiac makes that noise all the time🫢 guess it's time to change it. It's probably hella brittle
Lol
How is my car still running solid with 40 year old rubber? 😂 Must be some kinda japanese sorcery..
Who knows lol
A good way is to read the BMW insructions.

It’s been holding up great and looks brand new. I do park my car in the garage now so maybe that’s the difference.
The Toyota dealership charges $465 for the molding replacement.
What a rip off lol
So what did you end up doing?
World's #1 Procrastinator.
Where are you located? What state?

BMW seems to really cut corners on materials. No trim should disintegrate to this extent.
You should have left it off to see the results.
LMAO
This isn't the real way though!
lol what?
Anyone else cringe when he used paper towel on his paint?
Lol it’s a 10 year old car and it was fine. Nothing happened to the paint.
How bout pass a law that fines and incriminate employers hiring this people? That would solve everything... or give em work permits

Yep! I did. funny how some people fix things but fuck up everything around the area that gets fixed. and others call them gods of know all. jeez
