I put this same filter on my 04 Duramax Lb7 I really like it. I bought a extra filter for my emergency filter if needed before the change is due.
i was a fleet diesel Mechanic for 23 years... and i always filled the fuel filters up before installing them something you should know... and same with the oil filter fill them up first...
You’d never see any leaks from your filter with the engine running since it’s on the suction side of the fuel system. That’s why you have to prime the filter with that hand pump. It might suck air in and shut the engine off if there’s a leak. Also, the bleeder screw only needs to be loosened, not removed.
I had put the 1r-0749, huge filter it looked wicked. I removed it a week later when I realized it did not have a water separator. Since I don't have a lift pump yet I put the stock filter back on. When I get the lift pump I'm gonna run 1r-0749 on lift pump with a cat fuel water separator and another 1r-0749 at the front where stock filter is at. Better filtration, healthy injectors.

I will have to say very fast shipping wow, I got mine today and 25 minutes later installed. (20) minutes for the work and (5) minutes just to find my wrenches LOL. I would recommend everyone to get one of these for the cost vs. repairs seems like a no brainer to me so thanks again for sharing.

I guess I will have to call Sinister the kit is leaking air after about 150 miles the truck wouldn't start with out priming it up. Just wondering if you had any issues with yours maybe its just a bad O ring on the adapter. When I pulled it off to check it I didn't find any tears or nicks so I put the stock filter back on and no problems after that. I still want to run the CAT filter so far I can find no visible problems with the filter or O rings.

Put a cat adapter in my LB7 when I did injectors from Duramax store. get the BOSCH ones!!! I also did a dual lift pump from Kennedy diesel and a baldwin fuel water separator just after the lift pump. Checked for water after 5k miles... Maybe a drop of water came out. Happy with the setup! CAT fuel filter is a huge upgrade for these injectors!!!!!!
Get the billet aluminum bleeder screw too... If you suck air in here you will mess your injectors up. A good o ring will last a long time... Factory plastic plug is known to crack and let air in....
Nice how-to as always. If you have a lift pump, you can use that to prime the system after a filter change.

I noticed in a lot of your videos, you constantly have that passenger side front inner fender off a lot. It would be a good idea for someone to come up with an aftermarket one that allows access doors/panels so you didn't have to constantly remove it. I know some heavy equipment (Cat haul trucks) have that option specifically for that reason so the mechanics don't have to mess with it during PM's
I think there is a huge untapped market for custom panels just like what you described. The thing is, simplicity is life's greatest luxury. Anything that pushes you towards that end would probably sell. I have insane sciatica so "simple" ways to do repetitive things would be so much better for me than fancy shit. I'd be one of those lame billionaires who is stupid happy with a bunch of stuff only I think is cool. That's not true, everybody loves hookers! jk don't love those thos

Saw your video recently and one adaptor I was looking at required you to take apart the fuel filter head and remove a restriction ball. Saw you didn't do that with yours. Any difference?

063rdgen 2500CTD good point. This filter should only be used with a lift pump using a water filter. For those who don’t have a lift pump but decided to run a different filter, the Donaldson P553203 is a good filter that will seperate water from the fuel and has a drain in it.
Cat makes one with a water separation built it that will work.
What does that mean? Is there a critical extra step after this install?
The Traveler cat doesn't make shit. Baldwin makes the filters and paints them per order.
Does the donaldson filter fit on the stock holder or does it need a adapter?

I thought about this mod until I read you should have a lift pump. My 07 Classis I could change filter w/o removing fender liner. But my 07.5 New Body style I just can not do it w/o removing liner. Do they have replacement o-rings and does the adapter back-off when changing the filters? I did not see a locking stud.
I have a 2011 LML. Pretty much stock motor. Starting the quest to build my motor. Can I start with this cat fuel filter assembly or do I need to do anything else pertaining to the wire harness for the water seperator sensor. I'm new to the diesel world trying to get this done right.

looking in to this, My 04 LLy some sites talk about having to install a lift pump and removing the spring and ball for better fuel flow if remove this than you lose the hand pump ,Know I'm hesitating on doing this?
Since you installed the Fass 150 lift pump which already has a filter, why not install the Fass fuel filter delete? Just wondering.

If I install this CAT fuel filter on our 2015 LTZ, do I need to remove the fuel check ball? Is the stock fuel system sufficient to handle this application?
I've done that and taken it off .you have to use the filter that it came with. i bought a case of equivalent filters and kept getting air .my loss .there is a flaw on the desight that dont allow enough tolerance to accept any other filters so if you install it always keep an extra. Just in case its not a regular stock item

Hey I’ve been binge watching your videos. They are great. Mostly because of the LML. I have a 2011. What’s your long term review on this filter? Is it better than oem and what about no wif sensor? Won’t the light be on? Is this cat filter used alone or with a lift pump with the water separator filter? Do they make a pigtail to connect the stock wif sensor connector back to a connection on the lift pump? Too many questions I should just email you. John
Did sinister say you can use the extra filter since you already has a fass system? I see some guys have a delete cup or just take the stock filter assembly out when using a lift pump.
What do I do if I get a leak between the stock fuel filter housing and the adapter? I can’t figure out why it’s leaking. I took it apart three times now and inspected the o-ring and the adapter. Everything looks fine. I don’t know what’s up
Had to play with mine… after I finally got it started I found my fuel filter housing had a leak. Air was getting in preventing from starting. Started looking for a new o ring because it was leaking between the housing and the cat adapter. Ended up being the filter just wasn’t on right enough lol
Did u know if Fass lift pump died , can the truck keep running or u have to by pass pump ?
Literally took me less than 15 minutes from start to finish ... just reminder that the bolts on a 2008 are a 12 and the replacement are a 13mm ... also i found that if you undo one bold and start the new one .. and then undue the second one -- you don't have to drop the fuel housing at all .... I replaced my two FASS filters with CAT and the front Hood one and I swear I have allot more get up and go ...
Is there o rings with this mod, i have the same mod but i can figure out why mine is leakin bad. I thought there was one that goes around the spung ball housing, also on the original filter there is a plastic plunger that contacts the ball and not one in the mod. Help me out i need to go to work!
Did you have to remove the check ball?
since you have the fass lift pump system. why not just delete your oem fuel filter set up ? I did an it frees up space an one less headache.

Why didn't you remove the float valve? The directions on mine say that you need to remove the guys and take out the spring and ball in order for the filter to work otherwise it won't and motor won't get fuel. And I've read reviews that say the same thing

I know this is an older vid but I installed this on my LML. I put it on hand right and it has loosened up on me twice since the install. Think I’m just gonna go back to stock until I get my FASS lift pump and delete the factory fuel filter.
What about the water separator error code ? Does the cat separate the water in itself?

Bought my 07 duramax, was trying to do the filter replacement you know easy stuff. But that adapter is stuck on the filter, how can I remove it?
Can u put lock tite on those bolts. One of the bolts on my truck comes loose. Also would it help to fill up the filter before screwing it in ?

You don't need that filter, or any filter in the factory location if you already have an aftermarket lift pump like an Air dog or FASS.
David Jackson totally agree. I can’t stand when guys do that mod specially if they don’t have a lift pump and if they do have one what’s the reasoning when you have a low micron filter with the lift pump.
I would be interested in seeing a full install on a MOVE diy steel bumper. I don't know how confident you are in welding or if you have someone you could partner with but I know you've mentioned looking into bumpers in the past.

Coming along nicely. 👌 I tried installing one with the adapter on my Lb7 and I couldn’t get it to work. Can’t you also remove the spring from inside the of the fuel filter and pull that white plastic ball out?
RC LB796 I did that on my LB7 when I installed my adapter. It's a check valve from the tank so you don't have fuel returning on the suction line I believe. Not 100% on that. No issues after 80k miles.
I had to remove mine in order to keep it running without pumping the primer. 04 lly no issues 20k later
I am new to diesel. I just bought an '04 LLY truck. Maybe I missed it, but what was the point of doing this modification? You are changing a filter for another filter that does not have water separator function. Please clarify. I am not into modifications for show if that's an indication of where I am coming from.

Great vid on the install, but I would have to agree with some of your other subscribers, you already have filters on the lift pump, I installed FASS filter delete on my lly....
No need for 2 filters if you do a fass delete. I removed my CAT Nicktane after installing the FASS. No more diking around with a stock filter👍👍saving a couple bucks too.
One day when your fass quits and you have a fuel problem your going to wish you had the primer. Ask me how I know!
Buncher Kev I still have the primer, it just deletes the filter itself, a filter can easily be reinstalled.

Same here - the FASS delete kit simply replaces the factory filter with a bowl that can be removed if you want to spin another filter on.

I change mine every two oil changes. I believe that is EXTREMELY conservative. It could go much longer.
Hey Josh just want to start out by saying o love your channel and thanks for all you do for the diesel world. I found alot of good content watching your videos. I have a 2005 LLY and I love it. I've been slowly doing upgrades to it and your channel has helped significantly. I had two questions for you I was hoping you could help me with. First one is, what did you do with the water sensor wires after the cat filter instal? Second, I installed a new lift pump and it works great. Only issue is now my filter head leaks out from under the primer. Any ideas? Filter head rebuild kit? Lastly thank you for your service! It is especially cool to see a veteran such as your self taking control of the diy scene. Thanks again and looking forward to hearing from you.
+Shane Robert thanks for reaching out! You can zip tie the water sensor harness out of the way and I would say clean the surface where the oring couples to the filter that might be why it’s leaking

If you have a lift pump then you have your water separator. This is nothing more then a 2 micron secondary filter. Bosch actually recommends a 2 micron fuel filter with their injectors. However having 2 water separators isnt a bad thing if you want to keep the stock filter with the lift pump. If you do not have a lift pump do not add one of these filters till you do.
