It really, really makes a huge difference. I hadn't realised quite how much difference till I tasted wines in differently shaped glasses side by side.
So the glass actually makes a difference! ohh wow! I usually grab any glass that comes handy when having wine; at home that is! Now you got me looking on what i need to buy to make a tasting experience complete! Great video as always!

Hi Winscribble, another great video! I will buy a Zalto universal and give it a try! Interestingly I was told that although today we use the stem so as not to affect temperature, originally, in days gone by, the reason was that the nobility did not want the peasant staff, with their dirty hands, touching the part of the glass/goblet where their own hands/mouth would come into contact with. :-)

That was a nice video! I think nice wine glasses really enhance the whole experience of enjoying wine! We collect Eisch glasses in my house, they are made by fine craftsman in Germany. We have different glasses for white wine, red wine, champagne and port. As well as all the great things your guest said on the video I think where the glass places the wine in your mouth can also enhance the experience!

What We Do I have not heard of Eisch glasses but I will make a point of learning more about them. You are right! The point on your palate the glass sends the wine to first is very important! When it comes to food and drink, you are an expert my dear friend Klaus! 🙏🥰🍷🙏
Wonderful video! 👍🏽However, there is a reason for having specific glasses for specific wines, the glass does matter. Using a universal glass is ok but one glass can not be the best for everything. Universal typically means compromises have been made. Zalto makes very nice glasses.... but the hype surrounding them is due to just great marketing.
I agree! One glass cannot be ideal for all types of wine, but given practical and monetary restrictions, it is an acceptable solution for most tasting events. :-) As Myrto points out, Zalto also makes glasses specifically designed for different types of wine. I'm sure those will give an even more impressive tasting experience when used in conjunction with the type of wine they were designed for. Do you have a favourite wine glass brand other than Zalto then? Please share! Cheers! :-)

Just got round to seeing this video. I am a bit behind on my viewing schedule. I have to say - it really does make a difference drinking out of a thin drinking vessel. Even with hot drinks like coffee, I prefer to drink out of thin porcelain mugs rather than thick cups.
The best of this type of glass that I have come across is the Gabriel Glass which comes in two varieties: a standard that is machine made and ways about 150 grams and a gold edition (mouth blown) that weighs only 90 grams.
They are a tad expensive (around €96) for 6 for the standard and around €190 for 6 for the gold. My friend Joseph swears by them and even takes his own glass to wine exhibitions. They do make a difference. You remember he brought along a set when we did the Soutzoukakia and wine-pairing tasting. If you remember, we compared the same wines in ordinary glasses and his Gabriel glasses, and the difference was quite astounding.
There are some scientific matters that leave me totally baffled such as carbon dating. Design of wine glasses is something else that baffles me, but apparently the way their universal wine glasses are designed grabs the aromas in the bulb and releases them efficiently to the nose up the tapering glass.
My goodness, yes! I do recall very clearly what an incredible difference it made to the enjoyment of our wine, to have Joseph's glasses available to us. The wine was enhanced and the nuances of each pairing were amplified. Please do thank Joseph yet again for his generosity. His glasses truly elevated the experience. And having him assist during filming made everything run that much smoother!

I actually have a set of those wineglasses, universals. I never really knew what the difference was or why I had them other than I got them at an estate sale. I’m going to have to give it a shot and see how it works. I was interested in the wine rack in the back, I’ve never seen one like that before . interesting how different regions have different things for the same thing.

Not just that,the glass on your left hand is more straight from the bottom to the top and helps to release all the aromas that came from the bottom of the wine ...works like a chimney ...release the aromas of the wine easily

That glass is also better for younger wines because of the wider shape of the base of the glass. It opens room for the tannins and aroma of the wine.
