For a second I thought the new screen was faulty - then noticed it had the screen protector still on.

Same here
Me too
Same especially when he said perfect

"oddly, the screws are not magnetic, so I've had to use a pair of tweezers to pull them out" ... " The last repairer needed an iFixit magnetic mat, which would had helped to keep the screws organized and stop them to getting lost" :D
I still love Hugh's videos. Very educational. I am also a huge supporter of the right to repair movement.
Excellent repair and restoration as usual. The P30 Pro was one of the last decent Huawei phones, as it was the last flagship to ship with Google Services (and Huawei won't let you unlock the bootloader and install a custom OS). Also just saw that you ship to the UK in your store - fantastic!
If I actually needed a new phone, I'd probably snap up this P30 Pro in an instant.
As someone who uses the Mate 40 Pro, I have to disagree. Living without google is fairly easy and painless for most people, with the only real hurdle being NFC payments. As long as you are willing to learn and adapt you can get a p40 Pro or mate 40 Pro for dirt cheap, at least 60-70% off their RRP.
I think it's the P50 Pro where we really start to see a decline in quality and hardware - Small sensors, no 5g, no front infrared etc. The 40 series are world class and to hear someone say they aren't even "decent" is laughable. The first phone with a TSMC 5nm chipset I believe, ahead of apple? The 2nd biggest fully-used camera sensor in a phone? The best ultra wide camera in the world, despite being very narrow? Sounds awful!
@@Jaymiecain1 Huawei was once the most innovative smartphone manufacturer! No doubt. But without the help of US companies it was painful to see such an innovative company dieing.
@@adityanarayansreejith9362 definitely. I'm typing this on a Mate 20 Pro, and this phone is easily the best phone I've ever had. I recently upgraded to the iPhone 13 Pro and now reserve my ageing Huawei for entertainment and emulation purposes, but this Huawei still hangs in most areas that count in using a smartphone (the iPhone this year has nailed every area that counts, which justified the upgrade). I just wished that huawei were able to do a side upgrade to the phone, retaining the same kirin chip for Google services and including the 5G modem in the mate 20 X 5G.
It is really sad, I hope the Chinese government one day will loosen its grip on their companies and America will be less hostile towards them. I'm not pro America or china, more pro letting these great companies do what they do best without interference.
@@Megabean I hope Not. The chinese know what they're doing. Welcome our new lords.
Nice work, Hugh. Another phone saved from the E-waste again. 😄😄
The screen gonna be an e-waste anyway.
@@pidhsome well didn't he save a full working phone by just replacing the screen?
The replacement parts are laying around in the world in stores taking up space and dust until they're thrown into a dumpyard .
All Huawei phones are e-waste from the moment they are made.
@@pidhsome sure a dead screen and a battery is e-waste, but the rest of the phone fully functioning isn't
He kinda saved only 1/3 of it lol
You make fixing phones look so easy bro.
That's probably because, for him, it is. He already has lots of repair experience, so it's not as difficult for him as it would be for a beginner. All it takes is decent tools and practice :)
once you get the hang of it to with any hobby and or skill you build muscle memory to glad Android OEM's don't do the apple things of software encoding things to stop 3rd party repair shops and the use of annoying bits and little extra things just to scare those from doing it them self.
It is actually easy when you have parts, a bit of proper tools and know how to hold a screwdriver. It's kinda just like building a smaller Lego following building instructions. I don't get why everyone treat him like he's doing something really special, as all the pain comes when you get to low level repair - microsoldering, screens refurbishing and etc, that is the moment when it gets actually hard. And for slapping modules in - I guess you can teach a monkey to do it as long as it'll be able to handle such small components.
3:54 But Hugh I thought you just said the screws weren't magnetic, not sure a magnetic part mat would help too much 😅
He most likely forgot that he mentioned that the screws are nonmagnetic
1) acrylic adhesive strip you were using lasts about 2weeks, than it'll come out. Liquid "always sticky" glue like E8000, B7000, T8000 etc. are doing they job much longer and safer. The reason prev repairman was leaving original adhesive in place is its thickness (you won't get right 0.1mil thickness tolerance with a strip you were using).
2) improper heatsink material used. You were using regular thermal paste for like CPU cooler and others, it's not applicable here. The original material used is called "liquid thermal pad" or "liquid-dispense thermal transferring gap fillers". It works with constant thermal conductivity wherever gap thickness is changed and it won't ever get dry (like a paste). It's rather expensive compared to thermal paste and it has gap thickness "freeplay" about 0.875mm. Some blue residue you were found in the case is this material.
yeah those adhesive strips he and Zack from JerryRig use always scare me. But I've seen then hold longer than two weeks, granted the phone was in a case. it also doesn't go all the way around
Regular PC thermal paste can easily get into wrong places inside the phone especially if using as much as he did. I agree with you about the adhesives too. B7000 and other similar liquid adhesives are not that bad if you don't have new original style custom cut adhesive strips.
Those liquid "thermal pads" have crap thermal conductivity. Trust me, I've used them. They suck. Only real benefit is the decade or more lifespan you get out of them and easy cleanup if you do need to replace them.
I use a high quality thick thermal paste for these applications and performance or at least thermal performance has always improved and stays that way for many years. The phone housing and display always heat up way more afterwards. Sustained gaming performance is also noticeably better.
Thermal paste should work just fine. The heat spreader will prevent it from seeping outside and it's non conductive so it won't damage any of the chips under the heat spreader. Many phones use regular thermal paste especially combined with heat pipes.
amazing restoration, you taught me how to repair stuff the right way and im forever grateful for that. might try out some huawei repairs ;p
Hi Hugh! Huge fan of your repair videos! Hope that your store can ship to the Philippines very soon. 🙏🏻
Pwede yan siguro. Ikaw lang mag-cover ng expenses para sa shipping fee at taxes
3:47 Dang, that advertisment is so smooth lol. Nice video again, Hugh! Always waiting for your new videos every Sunday! Watching you since 2016!
But how would a magnetic mat help them if Hugh just said that the screws are non-magnetic?
Beautiful, absolutely great work 👍
Nice repair as always, what a satisfaction to put a phone back in order.
I have done a screen only repair on one of these. My sister currently uses it. Trust me you saved yourself a lot of time. The earpiece speaker is glued to the back of the screen...
You mention that the screws are non-magnetic, then go on to state that a magnetic mat would have helped the previous person keep the screws organized. LOL
@Ellis The DJ Probably so, but it just seemed funny for him to make the two statements so close together.
Probably just saying what the sponsor told him
Yeah...
That was such a clown moment bruh
I thought exactly the same. Entered in the comment section just to see if anyone else noticed😅😅
Perhaps the screws first removed weren't original, and generally are magnetic in phones
High quality tutorial. Thank you
I had the p30 pro for 2 years. Such a great phone and camera.
Yeah it's a shame the USA decided to murder the entire company with one ban, suppose Huawei was starting to take some of Apple's market share so they had to act quick to not lose too much money.
Satisfying to watch as always
I honestly love the blue and black look.
Well done. I certainly agree that it's a very attractive device.
amazing work 👌🏼 💯
Love the colour too
Another excellent review! God bless!
"and we done" love that word
Such a nice looking phone!
This was a nice job and I would totally buy that phone. Ingesting but I love my phones as pristine condition and I’m sad when it’s worn. I’m very annoyed about my own scratches. But saving something like this for a bargain money and restoring to significantly better condition makes Me happy and I can tolerate a few scratches at the end. Knowing I saved a phone from the bin.
You make fixing phones look as easy as smashing England at the Gabba.
Nice job dude!
Nice work, man. If you happen to ever fix a Rog Phone here is what i found doing mine.
If you charge it and a red light and then a few moments it goes away it only charge 1% on non original charges.
Replacement screens can be bought with frame or without frame(frames is easier to do),I got them from aliexpress just know you may get some with small scratches.
And something that it does after restoring to factory settings is that the last known email remains but can still be bypass(I did it to my rog phone 2).
Also or those who goes to a repair shop that specializes in Rog phones, take photos of your replacement screen (had 2 scratches and get one without)if sometime later it breaks.
Can't believe that the phone's actually sold out now😅
Wow, so the phone sold within 6 hours of the repair video going up. Nice one. Congrats to whoever bought it, they're going to get a great device. And kudos to Hugh for not only repairing the phone to high standards, but also stating in the video it would be in the store. After all, just 6 hours before purchase is very quick!
That was a great repair Hugh, thank you for the video
hello hugh love your video from philippines
I really love the color of that phone! It's very bright and loud compared to others like it. Kudos to Huawei for their color choices.
vous être trop génial un professionnalisme a tout épreuve bravo
Very nice mate
Its so great to know all your vedio!...💯👍
i just checked store. its great
I would love to see glass only repairs.
For example on Apple Watches.
Thanks for the Video.
I have a broken p30 pro with that color, I think it would look so much better with a black frame but blue everything else. It looks really cool
wow! Nice work! I wish i could send you mine for repairs. Got fixed with a low-quality display, the fingerprint sensor doesn't work, and touch sensitivity is a nightmare.
Still use this device and the size and battery life are great.
Good work Hugh :D i do repair old and new phones, but more are old.. like Samsung Trend Lite, Trend Plus, Ace 4, Ace 3, etc. Also i am fixing software problems.
Awesome, i think its more ethical to always recommend Service Pack instead of the cheap aftermarket, a question on re-application of thermal paste on copper heat sink, is computer heat sink okay? or will it work if thermal paste is not applied?
Nice video clip, keep it up , thank you for sharing :)
After seeing that you fix the back cover with double-sided tape, I tried to do the same thing, but I found out that it doesn't stick very well, so I need to ask if you can recommend me a particular type or brand of double-sided tape for that kind of work. Thanks!
i gotta give this guy credit, when i work on a phone, or tablet, i never track screws, and i get fed up in 10 minutes, getting angrier the more time it takes, until i hastily put it back together 'ish
Good job bro💪❤
Hey Hugh, can you make a phone from scratch made entirely of spare parts? That would be awesome
Yes hugh please do
I have this phone and it's very interesting to see how the internals look like
I wish you all the best
I had a cracked P30. Now I can finally replace the screen with this detailed tutorial
Nice work, Hugh. I wrapped up a repair on a Mate 20 Pro this weekend. I see lots of similarities here, although the Mate carried more parts to keep track off at the top for the secure face unlock. Just sucks to see Huawei as a shell of itself now, as competition pushes innovation.
Always waiting for the "So this is it" at the end xD
Huge fan of your quality of work....i have only request or rather i can say Question..will the store will ship to india🇮🇳....in future?? -thank you
Hi Hugh, I have had my P30 pro with Google for a number of years. Love it and it is reliable. The back has cracked due to a fall and I would like to replace it. Do you think this is easy to do and where do you suggest that I buy this from? Huawei are chraging a lot. Thank you.
3:45 Shilling for a magnetic mat to not lose screws almost directly after declaring the screws in said phone non-magnetic sounds kinda stupid. Other than that, great video as always
Hi Hugh, was wondering why are you not applying a tempered glass protector on the devices anymore...??
Perfect Huawei P30 restotation
Another phone saved from going to landfill 👏 still wondering if you have gotten around that p20 pro you attempted to repair before 🤔
You just play with phones like with Lego's. Amazing!
Huawei and honor make some of the Beautiful phones in the industry
And this P30 is not exception
The White and green look very Beautiful
Hi Love your videos
Cool vid!!
hey i'm not sure if it was one of your videos that you had a bunch of Imac ram covers i was just wondering if you had one that would fit a 27inch Imac and would you sell it
Just how do you keep remembering the order to reassemble the phones xD gg man
my daily diver❤️
Happier were those when UA-cam used to throw just one advt before beginning.
yeah ,had similar with s20 FE ,changing screen or glass is a bit of nightmare and not worth it ,luckily service set is only around $120
From where did you buy the service pack ? I need one for my phone and is the display as good as the original ?
Good thing i found this video, because i'm going to change the screen on my sisters p30 pro
i got a question where do you buy the service packs for broken phones
Big fan bro love you from Pakistan ❤️
looks amazing i could really use a new phone mine is still from 2015 x3
Where did you buy the service pack?
It’s a hard oled display, and on top of that, the technician left the protective film at the back of the screen, that probably put too much stress on the panel (5:17 the blue film you can see)
Hey Hugh, if the screws are non ferrous, would a magnetic mat actually help?
The cool thing about this phone is that it is scheduled to receive Harmony OS someday so its not a bad phone to still invest in these days.
What kind of website did you use to buy any repair part
Hauwei sure knows how to make a decent phone, it's sad that them and other companies in China have to contend with the consequences of their government. I would be worried about using this phone not because I don't like Hauwei but because their government can make choices that are forced upon them. I think Hauwei really should've been in the top 3, hopefully one day things will be a little bit less authoritarian and we all will be friends once again.
Telstra dumped the range back in 2016 due to security breaches they applied . Then when Canada arrested their CEO Before her release, Ms Meng admitted misleading US investigators about Huawei's business dealings in Iran. In return China just blatantly arrested 2 Australians
@@Rusty_Gold85 I know, they also jailed two Canadians too (I am Canadian). I think that the overinvolvement of the Chinese government was the demise of Huewei. The actual engineers, the products and the company outside of its management was golden. It's really a tragic story that a company with so much promise had to go this way. I wouldn't blame them, they operated within the system they exist in. You go against the Chinese government and you'll get disappeared in china.
Hey, is there any way you could guid me to where I could get this service pack?
Where did you buy that screen with frame?
what adhesive tape did you use in the back cover?
Honestly I found the mismatched colored frame and backglass cool, black and blue.
Awesome!!!!
4.15 is probably corrosion as i have seen it many time before on various of metal
The green gunk looks like Rodico putty, which watchmakers use to clean internals
Bought one when it came out and still have it. Last huawei with google services, and honestly still works surprisingly great. Battery, camera, speed... Believe it or not same as first day
Same
That battery looks massive
But where do you get the service pack screens??
It is nice that Huawei is selling service packs for their phones (Or some) as I dont think others are going that. I say while looking at Apple and possible Samsung
can hope more OEM's sell service packs yes! it'd be amazing to mainly Apple & samsung as their the most popular devices to can hope both to all OEM's *mainly apple* stop the annoying changing bits & tedious steps for when you get to the side buttons and all that!
where did you get an official Huawei service pack? I didn't see a link in your description.
Nobody:
Hugh: somebody made a smoothie out of this iPhone XS, let’s see if we can fix it!
I literally got an ad before this saying practically this:
"Smartphone broken or slow? Buy a new one!"
Hey Hugh, i have a serious question.
When you repair a phone like this, does the screen have to have adhesive or not?
I didnt see you apply any, and when i repaired 2 phones of my own, i couldnt find any adhesive for the display online anywhere.
Should it be held by any glue, or does it just stay on its own?
He used double sided tape
Hey, loved the video, one question tho, why aren't you installing screen protector anymore?🤔
? what’s a tempered glass? do you mean a screen protector lmao
@@Clavinohou I said screen protector only no
good job but i have one question my phone is having a problem where its flickering green end scrolling very fast i think its the display but how much would u say it would be to fix or repair in your experience
btw its a p30 pro as well
I wonder whether you have seen a p smart come up on ebay. Would really like to see how it can be repaired incase I need to replace my screen one day (if I still have this phone) mines a 2019 p smart
11:06 ur right!
I pronounce you, the king of repair…
This green stuff is the thermaltransfermaterial from the processor.... huawei uses pink on one side and green on the other
how would an iFixit magnetic pad help with organizing screws that are not magnetic??
