I would say that the bloke who you bought that off would buy it back in a heart beat well done lads
I've been speaking with a stronger cockney accent since I started binging your vids.
Really enjoying them.
I missed "I'm leaving Chris to do the hard work while I pop out" on my bingo card in this one. Nice to see Rob getting his hands dirty in this one. But really impressed with Rob's skills at sourcing parts and cars.
Learning a lot from Chris's approach to the work. Where I'd be swearing and cursing, I love how Chris just flatly says "ah that's a shame."
There's always a good lesson with the way that they methodically diagnose where a problem is and then tackle it.
The previous owner was lucky with the turbo, I think another couple of minutes running and the engine would have eaten itself. Great video. 👍
@@smithyc2051that’s nasty
Modern diesels - ££££s in DPFs/turbos/injectors/high pressure pumps/etc etc to save £500 a year on fuel
The shaft nut will more than likely now be living in the inter cooler,”DO NOT START THAT ENGINE UNTIL YOU LOCATE IT” or it’s game over if it gets catapulted into the engine!,cheers chaps 👍
Good point well made
Indeed- if it's in there, which it probably is - it'll be caught on the hot side of the charge cooler , or pipework, so wont make it to the engine, but NEEDS to be found all the same.
@@timbo19751975 trust me it will make it in,after fitting a new turbo on a customers car some years ago after never finding the shaft nut the new turbo lasted only a few hundred miles before completely destroying the impeller blades, luckily for me the engine was saved, after that very silly school boy error I strip all intercooler pipes and intercooler now to find the missing culprit, even if still not found I replace the intercooler with a new or used unit to cover my arse,(LESSON LEARNT!)
I always find in hilarious when Rob works on cars in t-shirts and shorts - he must have so many spare ones! 😊
@@markblunsum6164 And always has while trainers. They are a great pair of guys.
Brilliant job boys sorting the problem , down to experience now , knowledge is king .
Don’t mind these actually (the car not yous) best UA-cam channel ever cheers guys!
The BMW e46 in the background is exactly like mine 330 diesel. I’ve done 174,000 and it’s never ever miss a beat great engine
Just love how you pair just dive in and get it stripped and SORTED well done lads. Chris is a top Tech.
You guys will never be short of busted Land Rovers to fix...... they are ten a penny.... you do like a challenge though! Well continue on! 👍
Love the dad jokes, the oldens are always the best one. Great job on the RR guys.
If the bolt is removed from the bottom engine steady and the top engine steady it allows the engine to be tilted forward which gives a bit more elbow room when your working at the turbo.
We once had a car with the DPF light on and printed the ECU history. The DPF had tried to regenerate 23 times and every time the "operator removed key". When we asked the customer about his driving habits he said he only used the car to go and get the paper of a morning! Should never have been sold a diesel car.
The intercooler will also be full of oil - it needs removing and cleaning out.
They used very special alloys in the diesel Ingeniums. A patented mixture of chocolate and brittle eggshells.
I did a few short journeys and I got a warning of dpf blocking. The car instructed me to drive for 30 minutes. I did and got a message saying dpf clean and ok.
Like watching a sketch by Peter Cook and Dudley Moore 😅
Years ago a diesel was deemed more reliable and more fuel efficient than petrol. Now with dpf etc and the 10p per litre more for diesel petrol is way to go.
As a lr fan, i wold stay away from ingenium engines, very week and full of issues, not worth the headache. Personally my favourite engine is the sdv8/tdv8 not saying it has 0 issues but it’s reliable if looked after. But far play doing a good job on it though.
Really enjoy all SR UK videos and look forward to next ones to be posted.
Keep up the good entertaining and interesting videos.
Regards from Northern Ireland👍
A Land Rover is at its best when you replace it with a slightly older model from Japan just before the first trip.
Ingenium engine is a woeful piece of work but people need to learn that a diesel needs to do some work. They're no good for just pottering about around town doing only short journeys!
They also need much much, *much* more frequent oil changes than LR would suggest is acceptable
@@timbo19751975 very true!
Why does nobody suggest a 2 micron bypass filter? It takes out the fine crude which depletes the oil and does all the damage on every cold start. Full flow filters are 20 micron.
I absolutely love this channel, been subscribed to you both since 2019 and I remember when you used to buy Fiat 500's frequently but now you've moved on to buyers range rovers frequently, nice one chaps🚗
I've done 140k on a 2L ingenium with no problems whatsoever, but then it's been serviced annually!
Don`t forget to find the nut off the turbo in the intercooler
Next door got one yesterday and AA out to it this morning as won’t start. 20 plate 35k miles and looks mint but won’t run. Worst engine ever
Another quality Land Rover Ingeni’boom’ engine. Shocking quality!
😂😂😂 the treat at the end for those who watch the full video!!
Your channel was fantastic when it was only Rob doing the comentry, since Chris is now talking and contributing in commentry, it's even better, Brilliant channel Guys, keep up the good work.
An Ingenium made it to 40,000 miles? That must be a record.
Another great video, thanks!
You're supposed to reverse flow the DPF cleaning fluid from the outlet back towards the engine end. If you don't, it can push the crud further into the DPF.
I just don't get how LR isn't accountable for these engines. These aren't 3rd year college project students guessing how to build an engine off CHATGPT, these are people who know the physics, chemistry and maths of what the engine bits do and how they work, and over time too! Then they knowingly put them together, and act all surprised when they go bang. Shocking conduct
They actually are - they have uni grads designing these things, and more of the same signing them off. ZERO idea of good engineering practice
Wow a manual that’s crazy we never got these in the states
Knowledge and experience are king in this case, I thought oh dear its got "that" engine in it and I felt like the garages did. You two went straight to the source and came up smelling of roses, it'll cost but nowhere near what us pessamists all thought, nice one gents and a tidy profit coming your way.
Hats off to aa man on his diagnosis. Garages knew potential cost given age of car and rightly shied away. Why people buy diesels if they're not doing the miles is beyond me and to not run it to clear the dpf is either ignorance or lack priority. Great joke too Rob😂
This is surly the best UA-cam channel out there. Love it
Guys, you said nut missing off cold side of turbo, be worth checking all boost pipes and intercooler and trying to find it. Hope hasn’t inhaled it already with that slight misfire, potential bent valve although compression during cranking sounded good 🤞🏻
Love the channel, always great content 👍
Good evening Rob and Chris, nice looking car. Looking forward to the next video update. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
22:34 I imagine lots of viewers may have missed Rob’s brilliant egg joke right at the end 😂😂
Jethro
Well I think you dodged a bullet there as the engine sounds fine. That DPF cleaner looks to be very good stuff and works its magic overnight. I look forward to the next episode on this one. Nice colour as well. Thanks for another interesting post Rob and Chris have a good rest of the Bank holiday weekend Gents. 👍👍
Hello Rob and Chris, amazed at the work that you do! I like the attitude of "lets run the engine and see what happens" only to find that the turbo is scrap!! As always, very interesting to watch you both doing the work with explination(s). Best wishes from Lincolnshire.
🤣😂🤣 loving your jokes Rob 🤭 great job on the car boys🤞🏻hoping you can get it all done in your next video.looking forward to see you face Rob when it all comes together 👏🏻👍🏻🫶🏻
these engines are a ticking time bomb
Thinking JLR products have well and truly earned the reputation
I’ve seen numerous times Land Rovers under 6 months old on the back of a recovery truck (I’ve not actually seen that many Jaguars on the back of recovery trucks in fairness, although I suspect that’s because they’re less common)
Ya and it's not good
I have no doubt that you both will get the job done 100%. Can’t wait for the next video.
That's a result Rob with a change of turbo a lovely motor for someone.
A very good buy Rob when you have fixed it guys! Thanks a lot...Great joke! 👍
god i despair 40k already major mechanical issues !!! landrover at its best😠 excellent content as usual lads
Need to find the nut off turbo shaft , can be in airbox ready to go through new turbo 😊
Every time you fix a car you learn something that helps next time, great watching lads.
When I was young cars rotted away, now the engines kill a car JLR, Ford, and pure tech engines of Peugeot group. What do people think of the Dacia engines , was looking to buy but not sure of engine problems, cheers
I have one of these, had no problem at all,i have done 80k,with a cracking return on the diesel, although as engines go its gutless/flat because its only small
Got very lucky again guys.
When I saw there was oil on the dip stick I knew you’d got a runner.
That’s a nice car, it particularly suits the colour. The Ingenium engines get a bad reputation deservedly in my opinion, however you landed lucky as it appears that the turbo is the problem along with a blocked dpf. These diesel vehicles are not suited to short journeys, far better that they are kept in the power band slogging away doing motorway miles.
Hiya guys, try find that nut off the turbo! On these they're normally sat in the housing that bolts directly to the turbo, or sometimes sat on top of the air filter 😆... and don't forget to drain the charge cooler bolted to the side of the gearbox, they're normally full of oil.
Good luck! Can't wait to see how you get on👍
The more I watch of these programmes I watch - the less I want an Evoke as my next car. Move on to a Lexus then...
If its the SD4 2.2 diesel just do a 60 mile round trip on open roads once a month and it will be good for 200k with annual services
I done a Jag,customer didn’t want DPF sending away to be professionally cleaned. So done it this way. After a day to sit and then a 10 min road test, fire brigade ended up extinguishing the fire the DPF caused because oil was boiling on inside
Jesus😮I don’t care what opinions people have this is why I delete the dpf, sorry, have a race dpf fitted on all my diesels because it’s much more reliable and more power.
Ooh, the fire bridges. You should have dialled 999 love.
Great video the Rovers can be a money pint you can't blame the garages it looks like yous got lucky can't wait for part 2
Ooh you guys do love your rangerovers, shouldn't be failing at 40 000 miles though, but am sure you two ll have it running perfect again.
Rob thankyou for the jokes 😂 makes a good start to the week 😂😂❤
I love the way you said you wouldn't show the VIN number, then proceeded to scroll back up to the VIN number 😂😂😂
Also was "whilst I popped out for supplies" Rob code for just nipping to Maccies for a coffee 😂😂😂
Rob during the Car Vertical check..."I'm not going to show the chasis number on this one" Then proceeds to show the full chasis number 😂😂😂
Great video as usual guys. Anybody wanting to buy an Evoque (which really are a great car) should really go for the older 2.2 diesel.
Another good call, Rob & Chris. Good honest, diagnostic skill without plugging anything in true mechanical knowledge excellent vido thank-you
Fingers crossed for you that she fires up ok but please do the timing chain, it will need one. You could hear the chain rattle on start up. Great work as always guys.
Didn't they do the timing/pump chains on one of those recently? I remember it being a lot of work because the chains run at the 'back' of the engine and the gearbox has to be removed to get access.
People shouldn't be blaming car makers when they are doing short journeys in a diesel, the dpf will get clogged.
LOL loved the joke at the end....
What, you're going to leave us on a cliff hanger? 😂 Such a lovely looking car - it's a shame they have such a poor reliability record.
An absolutely great vid - thanks for that
hi there, great video, JLR are useless, overcrowded engine compartment, i am a 1970's mechcanic when things were easier, like the original range rover with v8 engine.
They have known about blocked DPF’s causing problems including engine runaway, so why not have the soot percentage displayed on the dash.
Not for Land Rover but I have a diagnostic tool you can leave in the OBD port and one of the functions is it can display soot level and if need be you can do a forced regen.
It uses the cars own info display to show all info.
Guys mind give the intercooler and piping a clean, also flush engine and do a few miles on new oil and change again.
Again I enjoyed the video.
Cant believe someone was less than honest about outstanding finance on a car they were trying to sell you 😡
Got to 40,000? You should contact manufacturers and tell them. Most go to the great scrapyard in the sky at 30,000.
Land Rover - A car you sell the day the warranty runs out. The more I see and hear of JRL reliability (or lack of) the more I'm convinced they are the worst cars on the road by a country mile. Great content for us all though guys.
yet another great video looking forward to wedensday hope its sorted
Brilliant, looked like a bigger problem than it was! Ps. The egg gag, is a jethro joke 😊
You will soon have that car up and running got faith in you and Chris. What a lovely car and colour.
When I was at Leyland Motors in the late 60s/early 70s an important aspect of the design process was the SAM study (Service Accessibility and Maintenance) which often led to design changes to help customer’s fitters. It seems that this never happens these days looking at vids about working on vehicles…
Hi rob and Chris, great job on the wee range rover, keep the jokes coming from marty in Belfast northern Ireland God bless
Top video guys, I've heard Jethro tell that joke ( his version is was bit blue ) 👍👍
Rob and Chris when you first Revved the car up you couldn't here the turbo whistling like you normally can if you listen back to when you did it 👍 very good shout on this one very oily when you took the turbo off hopefully it will be running sweet as nut when it been put back together 👍
Easy way to check the DPF for cracking is to check the exhaust tip for soot 👍🏽
Great work as usual fellas these motor's seem very teprementil it's a good job that you know their weakness take care and stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Wednesday's video 📹 already 😊❤
Barum engines have just had one of these in 30,000 miles complete engine rebuild and engine parts are hard to source
I think we need 1 hour videos rob & Chris.🤞🤣😂
Nice motor Arfur! A keeper if ever there was one 👏
Always liked the design of the Evoque and looks great in in that colour combo - pity it was was fitted with such a lousy engine - those diesel ingeniums will probably provide years of business for you guys!
The old saying “Gluttons for punishment” comes to mind! Good luck fellas.
Sound like a old Massy Fergison tractor i had in the 60s. lol
If it was mine, I would be deleting the DPF then blanking the egr and mapping all that shite out. Diesels don;t need all that shite on them.
Love riding in my friends Range Rover but he says it’s always wanting something.
Continuous smoke (no puff puffs) is almost certainly the turbo seals. When that throws oil down the inlet side - off go the revs.
Great stuff lads, I honestly love your approach to working on stuff, nothings ever a massive problem. Heres to hoping you can get away with just a turbo and make a tidy profit. Cheers.
It's like watching Del Boy and Rodney
Rob your getting to good at these jokes 😂 and you know we are going to expect this level of humour every time 👌🏻
@@kevinnye5132 sometimes I forget 👍
Made me laugh anyway, canny joke.
@@sruk 😁👍🏻
@@Jim_M_75 Rob a comedian in the making if the Car Channel fails 😂👍🏻
it is a well-known issue in Italy about the common failures on this engine called "ingenium"!
best and cheapest way for mopping up spills guys is the cheapest supermarket cat litter soaks up great
Sawdust even cheaper!
When i was buildin engine years ago on vans we always replaced the turbos with mitsubishi if they was available as they seemed to be the best at the time that was a long time ago cheers for the videos lads always worth watching
funnily enough , I had a RangeRover classic that had been swapped to a 2.9 mitsubishi lump in it...the engine lasted longer than the chassis , which turned into swiss cheese
Brilliant video yesterday boys!! You two were proper chirpy esp Chris! " come on Johnny!"
Looking forward to part two! Pull the trigger and
Keep the jokes coming ! Perfect end to a first class video.
Great video, nice work rob and Chris,my favourite videos are of an engine strip down, looking forward to part 2👍👌😀
