- hey hey! this thrift flip is a dream come true! I made my dream quilted top, and an adorable summer dress in this colorful diy clothing transformation!
thrift flips are my favorite way to update some not so cute thrifted pieces into ready to wear diy sustainable cuties. today I am taking a secondhand dress and quilt, chopping them up, and sewing them back together to create some one-of-a-kind works of art! it may be my best thrift flip yet, enjoy!

Which size did the trashbags have? There are many sizes to choose between-----Anyway: It is a good inspiration. I only hope for you, that it was not thick woolen fabric, you made summer warderoobe out of.
Finally a thrift flip were things are actually sewed nicely 😭 I always see girls just cutting stuff up and leaving the seams raw or making wonky hems
I thought the yellow gingham dress was the best. And then you modeled the orange quilted top...😯 Utter perfection. It was so cool. I loved both pieces but let's face it..the orange top is top notch. I'd wear it quite a bit. I'm crazy for that top!!! ☺❤

This is a compliment that mightn't sound like one but sometimes Adey picks clothing that I view her picks as hideous but when she flips it, I see that she really appreciates color and other things I would not consider. Well done BEAUTIFUL GIRL!

This might be helpful: I was taught to do two rows of gathering stitches one on the finish sew line and one just above that row in the seam allowance (like 1/4in away from the first row) this makes the gathering more even looking and also saves you if one of your gathering stitches breaks!

At first, I thought what a shame to cut off the adorable sleeves of the yellow dress, but it turned out SO cute, you don't even miss the sleeves. Maybe you can save them for another flip! Genius. I love your use of bias tape in both pieces. When you started the second piece I really doubted it would look good, thinking the quilted fabric was too thick and stiff. But it turned out so stunning!

The beauty of Bias Tape is that it will mold to a curve. 5:40 With finagling it will fit around the underarm area without need sew the little triangle into the strap piece.
I’m aware. The reason I did this was because it wasn’t a deep enough curve for my straps to be at the correct angle. I needed to have a more angled curve so the bias tape laid flat around the curve and up the straps and this was the easiest way to do it
You can make headbands, a kerchief or hair scrunchies with the yellow remnants!

Omgosh!!! I didnt watch all the way through your video. You outdid yourself. The yellow check dress is adorable but this top is...TOO DIE FOR!!!! I WANT ONE. CAN I hire you as my seam stress? I'm dead serious! If I send you the fabric and/or thrift find plus my measurements can I pay you to make me a top like this orange and pink one. I've developed a love of both Orange and magenta over this past summer (two colors I was never a big fan of). I usually am a fan of neutrals in my clothing and Leopard print, but my all time favorite white. There is an elderly lady in our small remote Desert town, that does very simple fix it's for me, but she is no designer/seamstress. I have two sewing machines and took many sewing lessons as a teen, but dont have the patience or the room in our small cluttered home. Speaking of clutter, I am a thrift shop junkie and could hook you up with so many things you would love that I've been collecting over the years, some of which is true vintage (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s...and dare I say 90s, which I cannot believe is now considered vintage, yikes, lol!). @@WellLoved Regarding the quilted top - which I'm going to try to make, I'm curious, are there a total of 3 ties on the back? If so...Just wondering why you didn't put elastic on the skirt back part of the top.
I want to recreate that quilt top! But it was so difficult for me to follow your directions…my problem thought, not yours. Gonna have to think it through once it is in front of me

I am wondering why you did the little angle thing with the bias binding? Since bias binding is meant to go around a curve wouldn’t it have worked without doing that?

I needed a sharper dip since the straps were going to be made from the same piece of bias tape as the arm drop, so putting that angle in allowed for the depth that i needed to get the straps at the right angle and have the bias tape lay flat under the arms

@@WellLoved I grew up wearing gingham, sewed my girls gingham dresses and my son wore gingham shorts. Idk where you live, but in steamy south Louisiana, it's a staple. Crisp and classic looking, but cooler than most other fabrics.
