I'm getting one, stop me if you can ;) For people wanting a bit more authority in the air for flips the bigger pinion might help. Not sure if that's too much and the motor will get hot. Stock is 11, optional is 17, there are quite a few options in the middle. Thank you for the great video, smile on your face tells the whole story by itself. Enjoy when you get yours!
Great bashing on the "borrowed" Rustler 4x4. You ran it harder than I would have LOL. Looks great and you didn't even break anything. Great handling in the air too. Great video for sure.
Great video! I watched a few others on this car and it looked slow but yours doesn’t. I purchased this car for my kid for Christmas and just want him to be happy with it.
I'm always on the fence for a Traxxas simply because of the price points. I recently JUST bought my first Traxxas in over a decade. The Summit has been one vehicle that I have been longing for and finally decided to jump that fence.
The Hobby Shop ?!? Stockbridge Ga ?!? I just found your channel but when you said that you really got my attention. I bought my first RC from Glen over 20 years ago , when he actually had a small track behind the shop. Cool stuff, glad I found your channel.
Just ordered one of these and some GTR shocks for it. May end up doing MIP driveshafts, but we'll see how the plastic holds up. I'm not really hard on my cars.
My very first RC IN 2015 oh what fun .. erevo was 2016 then I discovered crawler truck and went crazy...lol 10k later... Don't try to sell them you'll get screwed.. Like a real car you loose 20% of its value the first time you drive it. So your hobby SHOP really likes you.
Love mine ! Fun vehicle added sway bars and better shocks and its handles a lot tighter and is way more fun to drift in the grass and dirt. Hoping to get tires that have less of a harsh outer edge . The stock tires can be grabby and random in doing so. Overall love it and my girlfriend just got one and is hooked on RC now lol.
They better have one at my shop..extreme rc. I love it..but I am concerned about the plastic shafts on 3 cell..I know from experience they snap like toothpicks on 3s ..but I love 3s speed runs..and venom lipos are awesome..love them.I am getting a big cash settlement tomorrow..so I can't wait
I have beat the crap out of my Rustler and I havent broken a drive shaft yet. Go watch my video where I jump that baby 83 feet. This may be the toughest RC out there.
This is great. You might want to mount the shocks in a different way to make it higher when you jump. It sounds like the chassis is slapping pretty hard even on grass. Or you could buy stiffer shocks, or thicker oil.
I don’t really like the reliability of my erevo 2.0 so I sold it and plan on getting this rustler. That and I don’t really have an area where running 1/8 sized rc is realistic. I’m so excited for this truck. You put it to the ringer and it held up pretty well. I’ve got a pro mt 4x4 for the backflips haha 👍😂🍻 great video
Thanks! Yeah this thing is tough. There are a lot of crashes I didn't put on video. Honestly, it's easy to jump and play with without crashing. It controls nicely.

The chassis is different then slash its 20mm shorter, in the one I made we go over it pretty in-depth look

Just a warning. My rustler breaks drive shafts like nothing so I've ordered some Tekno drive shafts which will hopefully stop the issue. I can't even run through a battery before a drive shaft breaks. Always in the same place on the shaft but it happens front and rear.
Picking one up today.was gonna go e revo 2.0 but they just look like a maintenance nightmare if you break things. I already have a slash so I’m familiar with this setup
Awesome video! That side by side comparison on the revo 2.0 and the actual bashing was exactly what I was looking for! I'm on the fence on which to buy, both seem to have their upside. Did you happen to test out the self righting feature or do you just avoid it all together to avoid damage it may cause? Thanks
I did test it. It only seemed to work on harder surfaces like my carpeted floor. I couldn't get it to work on my grass or on the grass at the park. I didn't want to do it on asphalt because I didn't want to scratch the body up anymore than it had to be.

GREAT REVIEW AND VIDEO I'M NOW A NEW SUBSCRIBER!! Did you try it on the 18t pinion? Is 3's the largest with stock electronics? Are there many upgrades that are available for it yet?
Thanks! I appreciate it! I didn't change the pinion because it's not my RC. I didn't want to change anything if I could help it. 3s is the largest. I think 3s is fine. There are upgrades for it because it uses a lot of the same parts as other Traxxas RCs. I know the Slash uses the same axles for example.
The reason the 3s didn't fit right, is because surface RC's (cars) typically use hard cased packs, they are a different standard than the typical air based shrink wrapped types. If you look online you'll see what i mean, Most if not all look exactly like a standard NiMh pack. Nice to see traxxas finally address the aging design of the rustler. maybe they'll update the 2wd one as well.
Too long? I have 2 of those I got for my v1 revo when I first got it, but I never used them because after buying them and doing more research, I found that the driveline isn't strong enough to run more than 4S. Then I got a vxl 4x4 stampede and the packs were too long. I just recently used them in my converted ejato, they barely fit sideways.

I picked up the same Rustler, same paint everything. Have any tips on driving it straight. I have trouble getting to hit a ramp straight on. I'm New though so maybe over time ill get it. Love the Vids.
I've never driven a Typhon 3s, but its not the same kind of RC. The Typhon is a buggy. I'd say the Rustler is better, but you might want to try the Hoss.
@@outsourcedrc as far as i can tell most people think that the NiMH mode is the training mode. i seen some youtubers call that mode training when they pop in a lipo... smh
I didn’t realize that you live in GA. I bought my Traxxas T Maxx years ago from the Hobby Shop in Stockbridge. I recently purchased an X Maxx and have been loving it since. I would like to find more local places to drive it though as my back yard is fairly small. Any suggestions? I live in Walton County, just 5 minutes outside of Gwinnett County.
Wow I never had a rc car like this so I was planning on just going 2 cell but looks like I need to spend more money and get 3 cell. I don't want to break it but it's gotta keep up with my bro's gas powered car.

Hello, I need your advise.. Erevo 2.0 or Rustler? I know both have different categories, power, etc..... But what would you advise me to buy? And why? Thank you
It depends on so much. They are both fun. The Rustler is a lot more durable and a lot less costly but the E Revo is a lot more powerful and a bit more fun.
Man I get pid tomorrow an idk witch one to by the erevo 1/16 pr the rustker 4x4 I'm thinking the erevo. An will my nitro revo 3.3 rpm arms n draglinks fit on the erevo 1/16
I actually think that's a good idea, but I don't think there will be one for a while. I'm concerned that if you brace the chassis, the bulkheads will take all the flex.
No no, the battery size doesn't matter. That's just how much power it has. It's not under powered, it just doesn't have the mass in the wheels to make it spin like an e Revo. The power feels fine.
Not bad for what it is. I'd have to upgrade the power system so it could take a 4s. Haha awfully nice of your local hobby shop to let you take it out for a beating. 👍 👍 they going to give you a discount on it since it's used? Haha
Now that's a hard question. I think I do. The Rustler is more durable, but the E Revo is more beastly. The E Revo is a bit more wild in the air. I think if I could only have one, I may choose the Rustler.
I literally just bought one because of you AND IT IS AWESOME 😎
I'm next 🙌👌

I've never driven a Typhon 3s, but its not the same kind of RC. The Typhon is a buggy. I'd say the Rustler is better, but you might want to try the Hoss.
@@outsourcedrc ok bot i LIKE the rustler because i gona but some badlans wheels Four look LIKE and mini e revo 🤷♂️😂😂😎
Out of the box you're in training mode. It's a program on the esc. Revert to the manual for that parts breaking power! Even on 2s 👌
Its not on training mode. Why do people think that?
@@outsourcedrc as far as i can tell most people think that the NiMH mode is the training mode. i seen some youtubers call that mode training when they pop in a lipo... smh
why were you using your feet to flip it over again? Doesn't it have a self righting feature?
I didn’t realize that you live in GA. I bought my Traxxas T Maxx years ago from the Hobby Shop in Stockbridge. I recently purchased an X Maxx and have been loving it since. I would like to find more local places to drive it though as my back yard is fairly small. Any suggestions? I live in Walton County, just 5 minutes outside of Gwinnett County.
I'm not sure of that many places. Most parks have some nice spots. Just go exploring around your area and see what you can find.
I have a stock rustler vxl 4x4 and it does not wheelie like that one in the video. Any advice?
😍Congratulations dude very nice video, 👍😎the legend continues, 🙈just one thing I don't like, plastic drive shafts, why?😤🤯🧐what hell😈👹🤬
Because metal drive shafts break other parts of the drive train.
Wow I never had a rc car like this so I was planning on just going 2 cell but looks like I need to spend more money and get 3 cell. I don't want to break it but it's gotta keep up with my bro's gas powered car.
You can flip the original battery clamp upside down and it holds the 3s better I found
Love the jumps
Pick me one up the other day...too cold to play out just yet...cheers from Arkansas 😜
Oh I know that feeling. I hate the cold.
Outsourced RC just ran my VXL, sucker is fast, wheelies very easy, flipped a bunch, tracks str8t, 35 min run time....well pleased......street too short for long speed runs, needs a park to open up..lol....12 yrs since Id RC....old one is nitro, needs to be rebuilt....someone broke it for me..lol....won't loan out my toys no more😉
You’ve got a good channel bro.
Thanks!
My only complaint is that the front suspension frame is to “fragile”, mine broke at the main body pin holes after a slight collision
How did those tires hook up? They look cool, but I'm not sure if they are that great for traction.
They are pretty good on most everything I drove on. It will slide on sidewalks some. I like them.
Outsourced RC So great off road? I think the original Talons did ok off road, but kinda sucked on road.
Yeah they are good off road. They gripped fine. I think hard dirt may let it slide a bit, but anything loose will do well.
Same tires as my E-Revo 2.0 They seem fine. They do slip a little on smooth concrete, but what would you expect? They are off-road tires.
Did you ever upgrade the pinion to go faster??
Yes! I have a video where I hit the ramps at top speed with the high speed pinion in it.
My question is do you have to worry about overheating running it stock on 3s through all terrain bashing?
Not with the stock gearing. I havent had it over heat on 3s on stock gearing.
Love this truck and the erevo
Do you think it will need a chassis brace?
I only ask because I swear by my slash’s vg chassis brace.
I actually think that's a good idea, but I don't think there will be one for a while. I'm concerned that if you brace the chassis, the bulkheads will take all the flex.
Sounds good thanks man.
I’ve watched my share of unboxing/reviews/break ins and this is one of the best. Keep on bashin
I might get one for Christmas
Turn the arm that holds the battery around. It should rotate and give a tighter fit
It doesn't. I have a follow up video that shows it's meant for a 6400 mah battery.
Great, thank you.
The battery retainer spins around and flips over to hold the smaller batteries. LOL, nice job rigging it with foam though. :)
Ah, nevermind, I see you did change retainers. Perhaps that's what the foam is for? Or was the foam something YOU had and was not part of the kit?
The foam is mine. The battery compartment is actually made for a bigger battery. I'm not using the recommended size battery. Found that out later.
Outsourced RC I'm guessing that's why it seemed under-powered? Or is it the gearing?
No no, the battery size doesn't matter. That's just how much power it has. It's not under powered, it just doesn't have the mass in the wheels to make it spin like an e Revo. The power feels fine.
I seen it in person at my hobby shop
Lucky!!! Looks fun.
And I’m JEALOUS!!
Does anyone know of a very strong driveshaft for extreme bashing for this car
Not bad for what it is. I'd have to upgrade the power system so it could take a 4s. Haha awfully nice of your local hobby shop to let you take it out for a beating. 👍 👍 they going to give you a discount on it since it's used? Haha
I don't know. I may just buy this one once it is able to be sold. I don't care if I get a discount. This thing is totally worth the money.
way slower than i thought it would be on 2S...are u in training mode with the esc? It seems really slow even with the 3s
Nope. Thats just how it is.
Do you like the rustler 4x4 more than the 1/10 erevo?
Now that's a hard question. I think I do. The Rustler is more durable, but the E Revo is more beastly. The E Revo is a bit more wild in the air. I think if I could only have one, I may choose the Rustler.
Did you put the 17 tooth or the 20 tooth pinion on there, that would pretty much double the speed.
nope. I do that in a later video. I didnt want to change anything since it wasnt mine at the time.
pretty sure you do not need to unscrew the battery hold down they designed it to swivel and flip for easy battery size swaps
That doesn't work with the 5000 mah battery
Outsourced RC really that sucks i never run anything under 5000 mah i want one of these nice update to a traxxas classic
Wow you have quiet the beautiful place there mate, what do you do for a living if u don't mind me asking. That place is gorgeous.
Crypto Ozzy you mean quite. Not quiet
Sir: Do you own one of these now? Did they come out yet?
Yeah they are out now. You should watch my launch video.
Nice super awesome video
Looks like you have the optional batter hold down
Upside down.?
Nope. It just doesn't support the 5000 mah battery. I tried every combination to get the batteries to fit.
Nice video 👍 looks good
