I decided to launch my Rustler 4x4 VXL to celebrate the Launch of the Rustler 4x4 VXL. I send this thing flying! Its incredibly durable and really takes a beating. Special thanks to my friend Zeppelin for helping me film this video.
I just got my Rustler VXL a couple days ago, so seeing this video about how tough it encourages me. I must say I cringed every time you crashed yours into the ground lol. Made me glad it wasn't mine doing that. I'm not a basher, but I do enjoy hot-rodding around the dirt with mine. Eventually, I will find a place to try jumps, but not as extreme as you were doing. I want mine to last a long time. Great video! Keep them coming!
I don't normally jump it like this. I was just doing it for the video. Also, I was kinda curious to know how far it would go

I had built a small ramp and tried jumping for the first time. Holy Smoke, it's not as easy as you make it look. I built a larger ramp that I can adjust, so I'll give that a try tomorrow. It's going to take a very long time to get this down. I've been a plane guy for 6 years, but this is a whole new set of skills. I have so much respect for people who can jump these cars. If you want to see my first time jumping, put in, Traxxas rustler jumping by a newby. It feels like when I first started trying to fly.
It takes practice. You will get the hang of it.

Yessss! These are the kinds of videos I love to see on RC!!! This is how I want to use my cars when I get them but I'm nervous to invest in them every time. This is a great look at how durable this thing is!! I'm always so confused as well when I see every person that has one upgrading every part before anything even breaks! This thing is a beast!

I'm a few months away from being ready to buy (Just because I know I want everything RIGHT NOW and can't afford that, so I'm waiting until I only have 1 option that I can't say no to) so I'm trying to compare and find my "perfect match"
Essentially, something I can run all the time, beat the shit out of, perform cool jumps/ tricks with, and run on road/ offroad (Everything BUT long grass)
@@matthewmccalister5594 I like the E Revo better, but its so much more expensive than the Rustler. The Rustler does seem to hold up better. If money is an issue, I'd go with the Rustler.

Well, give it up for traxxas! I dont care what anyone says.... These things are durable! But, some aluminum upgrades would be a welcome. After all those hard landings, there's gotta be some bent hinge pins! Wow. A++ on all your testing!

It’s a tough little RC
My 4x4 VXL also had the issue with the motor dislodging with hard hits. Thread lock and tightening down really hard worked well initially. I have since purchased the motor mount mesh insert and it hasn't slipped since then. A great $5 investment.
Your first jump was spot on, nice correction at the last second. On the second jump I heard the throttle was still engaged when you hit which is probably why the motor mount moved. Happens to even the best ;) On your forth and fifth jump, double back flip, sweet! And then you almost did a triple but landed on the tail, sooo close.

I've had the Rustler for a year now, but I won't be doing any of that type jumping. lol Very cool to see though. You're the right guy to be reviewing all RC cars and trucks. Love your channel! Would love to see you fixing things you broke, helps all of us learn to work on our own RCs.
Thanks! I dont normally do repair videos. Adding a camera could add 2+ hours to a 15 min repair.
Just ordered the green one. Haven't been into the hobby in a while, but I still have my Ofna 9.5 truggy and an old Stampede from the 90's laying around.

I converted my Stampede brushless 4x4 to a Rustler 4 x 4 and it's awesome. I can't believe your plastic shock caps didn't pop off with those hits! When you replace the bent shock shafts, consider upgrading to the hardened steel titanium ones and aluminum shock caps.
The advantages of a small form factor and weight.
I actually replaced the shocks with the big bore shocks.
@@outsourcedrc Good choice, since they are only marginally more expensive than upgrading the shock caps and shafts on the ultra shocks.

This is hilarious, I’m new to rc and just got one of these. I was nervous hitting this jump I made and it was only really flying 6ft or so. Lol! I was amazed nothing broke on the very first jump let alone all of them.
As long as you hit the ramp straight and land straight, it can take it.

Just bought a Rustler 4x4 VXL a couple days ago. Ran two batteries through it at this point, so we're pretty new to each other.
It was sitting next to me on the floor but about halfway through this video I noticed mine had slunk off to a corner of the room...

You gave that thing an absolute beating with those crazy big jumps 😵😱💪👊 I noticed that the shock aren't that great. Springs are short and the spring perches are too small to hold the spring in place on big jumps. So far that's my only complaint 👍

Great video, did not know that Rustler had that ability! I have an e-Revo 2.0 (same as yours that appears in the other videos) and I think he can not take half of it ... if it continues like this I will want to change!
The E Revo 2.0 is just too heavy to try to do this kind of stuff with.
Yeah ... I feel the balance should be close to something the size of Hustler. I have e-Revo 1/16 also which has already broken for much less than that. Between 2.0 and Hustler, which one do you like the most? Congrats on the videos!

That is impressive, it's pretty bulletproof right out of the box. I could have known as the owner of a Stampede 4×4 VXL TSM. But this one has better driveshafts that i like to try on my Stampede. They are pretty similar. I might get one too but i also want a Trx4, decisions, decisions. They are more expensive here in the Netherlands.
Jeroen Engelgeer mine had a shock cap pop on the first jump n u can see it wasn’t a big jump but must be just the luck of the draw, cus I’ve been seeing guys launch there’s n no issues
@@STEVOD313 That will probably still be a problem. Buy the aluminum one's for the ultra shocks, they don't come off and look nice.

I've thought about it.
Such an edifying and noble endeavor. How does a 51ft horizontal and 15ft high(approx) flight with a 1/10 scale RC equate to a 1/1 scale human piloted automobile doing the same? Do we currently have the safety technology to ensure the driver's survival? Do we have the mechanical technology and metallurgies for a 3000+lb stunt buggy to survive and function after just one of those landings from100+ft high? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have aluminum caps and haven't popped one on my slash 4x4

Hey I just bought a Rustler and it coming in the mail but I don't have the right batteries and I was wander I no what kind you use because you seem to have some really nice ones
I just use the 5000 35c 3s Venom batteries. I'd use traxxas batteries in it though. They fit the tray better.

Nice vid. I’ve had my rustler for two months now and as much as i want to start doing some jumps and flips im too coward to do so, afraid i might brake something from not knowing how to do it. I just love it too much to take any chances on destroying it lol

I started with the stock pinion, then I swapped it out for the 17t pinion that came with the Rustler. It was going close to 60mph when I hit that ramp.

Stock in this video. I've since upgraded the rear to the better plastic shafts.

@@outsourcedrc Revo is great tho don't get me wrong. Just remember to have a bag of rod ends and you're good to go. I wish they made nylon rods so they'd flex if you took a bad hit but to be fair I've only bent one rod and bust a couple of rod ends. Can't wait for my rustler to turn up, bank holiday here in the UK so got to wait until Tuesday before the post turns up!
I have two Traxxas Slash, one 2WD, one 4WD and have bought lots of spare parts, I think they are incredible. My question is does the Rustler, Stampede and Slash all share parts?
yes, example: a arms and axels , rods with rod ends, Steering linkage rod, Rear shock shafts are all you need to convert a bandit to a rustler on the cheep.

Dude! that was Epic... i can't believe you didn't blow off a shock cap or broke anything.. that was wild, every time it hit the ground sounded so harsh but it kept going. So was you using the 17Tooth pinion and 54 spur? I got one but had a titan motor im going brushless and trying figure out what set up i want. Thanks
Yeah this thing took a beating. It was the 17T pinion and the 54t spur.

Granite so much tough than rustler and you dont have to deal with breaking driveshafts constently
The granite help up pretty good for me and it took some good hits. The only issue I had with the granite is I feel like everytime I ran it it would break an arm. I eventually just ordered a handful of spares but it still got really annoying having to replace one everytime I ran it.

Breaking is very easy. I bought a brand new Traxxas car.
Babies it as much as possible. Did a run on cement hit the brakes flipped forward and BOOM rear end gears BLOWN.
First week of running and it ended fast because the gears broke.
The 1/16 4 x4 vehicles should come with shims in the boxes or pre shimmed drive gears.
After inspecting I found that's all it was. But I gotta say that shouldn't happen to a vehicle that has not left the ground not even once. Lololol.

I got a rustler but I didn’t get the vxl at first. I want it to be as strong as the one in this video so what else would I need?
This bad boy is stock. I'm not sure of all the differences of the normal one and the VXL one.
@@outsourcedrc this is stock? No added protection to the car? If so than that makes me very surprised at how much this car can take. I bought a 3s Lipo battery so just want to make sure because the speed that the battery brings with also make it more likely to brake.
Also, do I need to adjust the shocks any and how will the car preform differently with the adjusted shocks?

No, I have not. You can build it the same way though. Just scale it down.

I never bashed the new rustler nor the old one. this car is awesome man. I own 2 rustlers, 2 TRX 4s a slash 4x4 and a dhk Hunter. I have never owned an Arrma but, i would love to get one. I am waiting for the Arrma Big Rock. Both are very awesome. I would love to have one of these. You may have seen me comment about comparisons. and yes the Arrma is a smidge faster. I have the same Velineon system in 2 of my cars now. absolutely one of the best Brushless motors ever made. in fact the 3s velineon motor can actually handle 4S with a good fan on it. The ESC won't but the motor will do 4S. velineon 3S ESC are awesome I love how they are so simple to program. Jay Tee youtube page did a side by side with this and the arrma Granite... both are awesome. Arrma would be a new brand to me and I am very curious.

Man i agree velinion motors are great they definitely outlast escs i have 5s capable esc with velinion now thanks tip didnt know coukd get away 4s i have high powered pc fan and cool outside but uk what i bought outcast awsome hard to still invest money slashes i have they old thinking buying granite today if lil rock out id get that but 8th scale arrmas on diffrent level if you already have batterys go one them 1st
