Steve, I can't thank you and your children enough for giving us the gift of your work. I used this video in my seventh-grade classes today as we are parting for the Thanksgiving break. Your messages of gratitude really touched my students' hearts. When the day ended, several students came to me and thanked me for being their teacher (and gave me hugs). Moments like these let you know you're doing something right.

Steve, I realize your audience is aimed at children however this series is the BEST thing I have seen on UA-cam. It is uplifting, positive, and educational. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Your children are wonderful kids. A true gift to humanity. Please tell them thank you from me for their work in making these episodes. We are blessed to have people like you and your family in this world.

    Dear Steve, Meryl and Emmett,
Today your wonderful show reminded me to be grateful for dear friends and (now former) students in Moscow, Idaho, where I was a music teacher and choir director. When I was diagnosed with ALS in April of 2017, my principal and the organist at my church, plus another couple of dear friends, decided to throw a “going away party” for me.
This was also for my husband, who shortly after my diagnosis was himself diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was receiving chemotherapy hundreds of miles from home at the time of the party, but we were both so thankful that he was included in the minds and hearts of our friends.
The party included lots of great food, and thee bands: a local jazz ensemble, composed of our friends and colleagues, and two marimba bands-my students from the elementary charter school where I taught (who are still playing together in high school), and the adult marimba ensemble I played with. It was unforgettable! THEN, two months after that, my students, Sesitshaya Marimba and our klezmer band Gefilte Trout threw a fundraiser for my new, very expensive medication. I was still able to play in all those groups, so I did!
The people of Moscow, Idaho are the best. But the truth is that there are people like that all over the world. Thank you for reminding us all of that.
PS My ALS is moving very slowly, and my husband is in “durable”remission-where his doctors do not expect the cancer to return. We now live in Salem, Oregon, near our older son and daughter-in-law, who are both in healthcare and take great care of us! We are truly VERY GRATEFUL!!

Steve, if your children had a different dad, they would never be as kind and as loving as they are now. They are going to grow up so nice, and so loving to everyone. If they didn’t have you, this never would happen.

I might be your oldest "student" at 74. Six years ago I started volunteering at a local school with a reading and mentoring program. I worked outside the U.S. for more than 20 years and our principal thought my perspective of life would benefit the kids. I write all the material, try to tie in short videos and always try to bring a moral into the lesson. I am really enjoying your lessons and have started a whole new series of stories for when school resumes in the fall using yours as my inspiration. I have always enjoyed your "On the Road" segments on CBS News, mostly because they always seem to make me feel better and this is the same. So as this story is about gratitude I'd like to show some. Thank you so much! Your kids are wonderful, by the way.

He seems like a genuine, down to Earth individual. It is nice to see a father who has his children involved in his projects. Being humble and grateful for all the little things can makes one appreciate them little more.
On another note, it is fantastic that the students cared so much about their former teacher ! That is fantastic and so memorable !

This is my favorite show to evolve out of this virus. What a nightmare the pandemic has been. My heart breaks for all the suffering, yet, I'm so grateful for the wonderful things that are coming out of it.
Here are some of my Virus Gratitudes (please feel free to add your own!):
    1. Many people have more time to be quiet & still & to truly consider how precious our lives are. Perhaps they're reconsidering their livelihoods or other life choices.
    2. Many people have more time with family & loved ones. Connections, real conversations, playing games, getting creative. I love it!
    3. We've all realized (again) how much we love our families, friends, co-workers, neighbors, pets.
    4. The planet can breathe again. Animals & trees & rivers & oceans & the sky are starting to heal because we're not torturing/killing them with our toxins.
    5. Many are starting their own gardens at home. Healthy food, less impact on the planet.
    6. The scarcity, poverty, food insecurity are front page news, & hopefully, this time we'll do something about it.
    7. We've all seen quite clearly that our ESSENTIAL workers are teachers, bus drivers, grocery clerks, food servers, workers who pick produce, doctors/nurses/medical staff, truck drivers, delivery persons, etc. I pray we begin to honor the folks who TRULY make our country work & start paying them WAY more money!
    8. We see how important immigrants are to our country -- many of whom provide absolutely essential services to keep our country going, much of it in keeping our food supply chain running.
    9. Many rescue shelters are emptying out, since many more folks are at home & able to adopt pets. Yay!
    10. Many people are helping others. Like Mr. Rogers says, 'look for the helpers."
    11. Universal Basic Income is getting a boost. We see why it's so necessary, since almost half the country can't afford to make it through a crisis. Think how different this would be if every person had a savings account, a home, more than enough food, healthcare, etc. We'd be able to focus on what's important -- taking care of ourselves & each other, working together & keeping everyone safe.
    12. Kindness 101 :) [Steve Hartman & his beautiful family, coming into my home once a week.] THANK YOU.
We can make a better world out of this. Thank you, Steve, for all you're doing to make that happen. And congrats to Meryl for her bravery! And I loved Emmett's machine!

Phil, your stories are not just for kids. All of us need to be reminded of these basic things. Karate masters with umpteenth degree black belts practice katas and basic punches and kicks over and over again. The concert master of the New York Philharmonic or of the Boston Pop Orchestra practices scales repetitionusly. We all need to be reminded of these little acts of gratitude and appreciation for others. Thank you do much for such a gift, even to us oldsters. We all need to be either introduced to it or reminded of that which we too easily forget. Also, I have always been so taken be your authenticity and humility. And your joy is so apparent in your children. Don't know if you'll see this, but you are so appreciated.

This was beautiful of course. I only wish we could have these people be in charge of our country, states, school, and governments.

In this day when we all need to find ways to live more frugally I am grateful that my Dad taught me how to grow vegetables and bake. And I am grateful that my Mom taught me how to sew and hand wash laundry.
