Why iPhone Takes Your Picture Every 5 Seconds
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 сер 2024
- Recently, iPhone users have become afraid that the front facing camera might be taking photos of them every five seconds. As seen in these types of videos.
But is iPhone actually taking your photo? And if so, why?
Well, it’s true that the infrared camera activates about every five seconds and shoots out 30,000 invisible dots. This isn’t the phone taking a photo per say, but it is checking to see what’s in front of it.
"We noticed you are not watching this ad. Please keep your face pointed at the screen and your eyes open for the ad to finish playing."
"Drink a verification can."
That story wasn't a horror story. It was a design document.
man, fuck that. Thats scary as hell. Straight from black mirror
I enter my 4-5 digit code to confirm my identity to unlock the phone and it works every time.
See they won’t get that greedy because people will stop

Every single app or service you use steals your data and sells it 😆 If TikTok wanted your data, they could buy it from Facebook, Apple, or any other US company at a low price whenever they choose. They will hand it over without a second thought because, unfortunately, you are the product. No company, regardless of their origin, truly cares about their users' privacy, despite their claims

Exactly what I was going to say
there is a small mistake in the video. the infrared light being flashed onto your face every 5 seconds is *not* the 30000 dots emitted by the dot projector. its actually just plain infrared light flashed by the flood illuminator.
the dot projector is only used for 3d mapping features like face id. attention awareness features don't make use of the dot projector.
It unlocks the emails etc when detected so it uses Face ID once your detected.

Don't worry all of the incredibly invasive features are for your convenience.

Yes!
I think this is the only reason
This is the only explanation that makes sense, since for all other cases (i.e. dimming, notification previews) it would only need to the the IR scan at the moment of the action, and not every 5 seconds. Whereas if it’s constantly checking for screen distance, it would make sense to check every 5 seconds.

That’s a basic design decision a TPM or in this case the Enclave don’t give access to the data directly. They only provide limited access usually to hashes or other predefined calls. That’s different than some storage chip where you can access all… and yes I’m in favour of forcing the companies to making the source code of such systems public but they are well established to be safe in this case.
@@stiegelzeine2186 Apple can and WILL share your data. Apple is not on a pedestal, and is as greedy as any other company.
Also Apple already had a class action lawsuit about sharing user data to 3rd parties.
@@saladien9987 hash is enough to "sell" you. It is even more convenient because it is small to store and, with right hashing algorithm, it is quite unique. This is great for profiling - tracks, preferences in food, places, music, ads, people (to identify the owner of device they need to scan all people that are looking on the screen, why not hash them too? i'm pretty sure that it happens without consent of "not the owner", does it remember hashes? who knows.), whatever they want to know about you. They've hashed you and put to database, and they sell you to local ads buyers without even need to know your face. Also, Apple knows the hashing algorithm, can they hash a photo from police and try to match it with database of hashes? once they discovered a number of suspects they know their devices so they can track location of all of them, then filter out. Having your face next to exact location is not good, especially if you don't know exactly what is done under the hood.

This video is brought to you courtesy of the NSA and CIA. 😂
Don't forget Homeland Security, DIA, FBI, BATF, etc. etc.
For security, never use biometrics to unlock your phone. Naturally, someone could force you to unlock it with your fingerprint. Some may be able to trick some phones or computers with a photo. But one thing people often don't realize is that police can hold your phone up to your face to unlock it and search your phone without your consent...legally. Use a pattern or set of numbers that isn't related to your birthday or address.
That may be true of Androids, but with any iPhone, all you have to do is press and hold the power and volume down button for a second until it comes up with the power off prompt, and biometric unlock is disabled until you enter your passcode/passphrase no matter what police would like to do.
If you want to protect your privacy, just make sure any time you get pulled over, the first thing you do is grab your phone and press and hold your power and volume down buttons until it vibrates - then your device is unlocked and you cannot be compelled to unlock it or provide your passcode or passphrase.
But what you SHOULD do is go into your settings and enable complex passcodes, so that you can use more than just digits to lock your device - that makes it a lot harder to break into.
Although if you are a criminal, don’t think for an instant that law enforcement can’t get into your device if they really need to - they can and they will if they believe you’re hiding something from them. It just isn’t cheap or easy.
They are not allowed to do this in the UK.
How that all depends on what you've done for the police to be interacting with yourself otherwise it could constitute a 4th amendment violation.
My phone wouldn't unlock with a photograph, it also won't unlock if my eyes are too closed or fully so no good knocking me out.
My phone requires a pin after being turned off or after 72hrs on time.
If cops want your phone it's called a warrant and there's nothing you can do unless they literally cannot break your phones security 😂
Clearly apple is not taking pictures of your face and uploading it somewhere but the question is why does the IR camera keep flashing even when all the features mentioned in video are disabled in the settings, its kinda annoying since all that scanning should be eating into the battery life.

Let's be honest, they most likely do use the IR sensor to track other facial features, and how would you know if they stored the data or not, and even if they didn't how would you know that they won't be able to track it if they want to. The saving battery gimmick can be very easily replaced with the already incorporated MEMS systems where the phone has an internal gyroscope and it knows if it is held or not. It would make no sense to hold the phone as if you we're using it if you wouldn't be looking at the screen.
They act like excessive alarm volume for somebody facing the phone couldn't easily also be achieved by a "hey the alarm you set for 5:30 for "getting groceries" is about to go off" warning that appears 5 seconds in advance. I love infrared light in my eyes 👍
me too, it makes the eyes see better and makes them age slower, all proven by studies btw, i think you shouldnt have a problem looking it up
and like if youre looking at a screen why do you think the screen is any good and only infrared lights are hurting your eyes??? thats so idiotic

Hey I’m thinking of buying a iPhone 14 or some ‘newer’ phone, and haven’t used Face ID before, is there any way of turning it off completely and not having it scan your face at all?
When you get an iPhone, you make a passcode and an *option* to have Face ID or not. Just skip and and you’re all good.

There is also a lock sound if you look at the display and if you don't, then there is no sound. Battery saving feature:)
My husband noticed a flash happening while I was on my phone via the baby monitor, he asked me if I was taking pictures and I said no. He then sent me this video and now I want it turned off because it’s creepy af
