I thought the best way was to install a row of shingles along the valley first with a layer of asphalt cement underneath to seal, then start your shingles from the valley with the ends cut straight, and not angled. Am I wrong?

These are the guys that keep roof repairman in business! Open cuts are only good for old style shake. Should've done a close cut;)
