Cabin in the Woods Part 15: Metal Roof Standing Seam Valley Pan Installation

  • In this episode of Cabin in the Woods, I continue the metal roof standing seam details by sharing how we install the valley pan at the peak where two valleys come together and a ridge cap will be terminating. This is one of the harder standing seam details in my opinion and I am sure there are many ways to do it. Please leave me a comment if you thought it was good, but more importantly, if you have another method or link to a video showing a different and better way.
A lot have asked about the metal brake we have been using. It is the last piece in the puzzle of our snap table pro. It is a niche trailer filled with every tool you need to properly prep your standing seam panels. I will show it in its full glory soon.

It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.

This is what I totally appreciate all of that detail at that valley peak. you could have easily cut it "good enough for government work and then put the good ole "magic juice" but no, you did it to the very best of your ability! I also notice (weather you notice it not) but every piece you put up, it's like the very first piece you put on. Not only are you building to the very best of your ability but, you are teaching Greg craftsmanship, patience and attention to detail besides; taking us along with you. you sir sleep like a baby at night knowing you have the very best in your skills! Your clients are super to have you as a craftsman. I know Larry Haun would be impressed! Thank you sir for all the hard work and all the filming and editing. I for one am very grateful for all the hard work!

When I’m installing the hemmed panel in a valley, I place a scrap piece of underlayment under the offset cleat. It protects the valley pan from the hem scratching it. Thanks for the great content. I’ve learned a lot.

I just love the way the Americans do their roofing. We use clay tiles here and there are just so many opportunities for leaks and it looks shit. Your way of roofing is by far more superior.

I know this comment is pretty late, but I'm 15 videos into this series. I love how detailed you guys are. I feel like if I was in the construction trades, this is how I would be. It's not always about speed and quantity. I'd probably starve if I relied on those factors. I love taking my time and doing it right, and when I hire a contractor I expect professional results. Otherwise I'd just do it myself. I'm always willing to pay more for a service if it's done right. You guys are awesome! Enjoy the content and the positive work environment you and Greg have with each other. That's pretty uncommon on most trades videos I watch. I should mention that I work in IT, but most of my UA-cam history is filled with watching people do their trades. It's just very interesting to me.

Y'all do EXCELLENT Work!!! I am NOT a professional carpenter. but I sure think I'd of wanted at least a 4 inch overhang where the two valleys topped out. Maybe the valley cap you spoke of will remove the possibility of rain penetrating under that 1inch or so overlap at the top of the valleys. You're the man, so I'm sure you got it right!!!
