I just took mine off along with the brackets off underside, stripped it, abs sensors off, hubs off and spent a day, with a wire wheel on the grinder, wire wheel on the drill and a hammer and chisel chipping all the loose rust off, scrubbed it back, rust primer then three coats of hammerite. Refitted it with new bushes, all new bolts and new everything. Its the thickest steel on an 07 plate car, when that fails, the car will be baked bean tins anyway, for anyone with a back axle thats rusted to the extent that its got holes in it or worse, shears, I dread to think what the rest of the underside is like!
Great video pal. Just a heads up, the little notches in the rear pistons line up with the notch on the back of the pads so that might be why the handbrake Lever was quite hard too pull to get the cable on 👍
Thanks mate and the pads I fitted had no notches they were completely flat I know sometimes they’re a nice fit or tight it is what it is got it back together that’s the main thing
Tidy job🤙 What are your plans for treating rust and of rustproofing on the underside. Just about to start on mine and on the fence about going with lanoguard
I’m going to get this Done by someone who’s very good at these won’t be till January next year but hopefully you stick around till then to see it’ll be worth it
Just started mine, I’m using raptor xt white then I may lanoguard over the top. We’ll see how it goes. I was gonna use por15 but after sitting on the fence and watching many vids I’ve decided against it.
Did you have any difficulty adjusting the handbrake after this Ted? I don't know if my cable is stretched but one caliper is providing more handbrake force than the other? Newly refurbished calipers so not seized. Ps the reason your driver side was harder to put the cable on was because the passenger side had slack on it if you did it first.
@@norm4242 I fully slackened the cable then it went on then readjusted the cable via the 10mm bolt then operated the handbrake cable up and down while holding the foot brake as they’re still somewhat self adjusting
Good work fella. Im in the middle of doing the same. Mine is away at the blast shop. Then going for powder coating. But the mounting brackets are shot. Do you know if anyone is making after market/ upgraded ones, as they are a pain to get hold of in good condition. Im sure someone can fab them up. Cheers.
Thanks mate much appreciated, Not sure on the brackets maybe message Paul Bygrave, on Facebook he’s a massive breaker of these cars he may be able to supply you some at a decent cost I use him for slot of my parts
Thanks for the reply. Not been on here for a while. My rear beam is back from blast shop. Holes everywhere. So in 2 mind’s whether to get it welded or buy another one.
@@WelshRabbit79 you can’t weld a rear beam legally for repair as it could weaken and still fracture etc only time you can do it is if you’re bracing it, so unfortunately it’ll be a case of getting another and try it again, best thing to do is take a tapping hammer and go round the axle with it to ensure it’s solid

@@richardburns1287 a lot of them products are crap anyways they may make it look pretty but it’s not water tight a lot of the time the only thing that makes it water tight is epoxy primer, idk why people use hammerite as that’s another waste of time aswell because when the rust comes back by the time you see it coming through it’s too late the cars rotten.

Top Job, keep doing the resto underneath 👏
Thanks mate much appreciated 🙂👌🏻
I wrote off my ST when the rear axle sheared off the car and sebt me off the road. Worries me how many others could be at risknof failure
Very worrying mate I’m sorry yours didn’t make it 😞

I bought them as development prototypes from Alex Boam but You can now get them from parkin racing developments
