Next time just use the angle grinder to rip off the rivets. All you need to do is to slowly grind the head of the rivet and push it off with a hammer. Took me less than 5 minutes.
You don't need to load the suspension to torque up those bolts when you're using polybushes because they're non directional. It's good practice though.
As an alternative to drilling, grinding the heads down flat with the surface of the arm, then punching them out should work, will try it when I come to do mine :)
Great job documenting it so others have a guide to follow. Did you consider getting a subframe to shot blast and paint, it only would have been a few more steps to fit whilst you did all this.
In hindsight I should have done because mine looks awful but I just never thought about it at the time 🙃 I’ll get one at some point as the control arms aren’t too hand to remove again
@@MendItModIt Should be easy to do because the subframe on these cars only supports the steering rack, gearbox and lower arms if i remember correctly. so it's not a massive pain to take it off.
Just got some new control arms for mine as ball joints and bushes need replacing went for the more expensive ones 2year guarantee as not going with the poly bushes. great video 👍
Hey , great job on this mate. I would like to do exactly the same as what you have done here....... rather than me buying a top price lower arm, as the bushes are gonna be removed, would settling for a mid range price lower arm, be ok?? Cheers mate 👍
Although your initial experience was very good regarding fitment, review again in 6 months to a year and see if they are still any good, awesome vid as per usual though and thoroughly enjoyed watching
@@scottking942 I’ve seen some bad reviews too but like for the time I’ve had them I can’t fault them. I’ve heard that sometimes you can get a bad batch and some say that they wear out but like I said I’ve not had any problems myself so fingers crossed you have a good experience with them too 🤞🏻

I agree with that, came down with that in mind, then saw your comment!
FYI for tue rivets, it's much faster to grind them off.

No you don’t but like you say, good practice and good for anyone watching the video just to find out how to swap them for standard arms/bushes 👍🏻
@@MendItModIt yeah worth a mention for those who are gonna use standard rubber.
Both Flow Flex and Powerflex ARE NOT Polybushes - Only we can make Polybush.
But that said, good video, lots of good tips.
To my understanding rivets are heated up when there pressed so they are basically tempered that’s why they are so hard to drill
Would make sense as they were very tough, I’d assume the new ones come with high tensile bolts and the pinch bolts need to be higher tensile too

Had flo flex bushes all round on a ford puma for about 4 years without issue .
nice job mike ..😎😎
top lads in adfa .., we get our agri tyres off them …
Cheers mate, and thanks for your help with the control arms 🙏🏻
@@MendItModIt
no problem mike ..👍
Do you have torque settings for arms please mate?
Mike can you say where you got the tool from to undo the inner tie rod from the steering rack?
I’ve added it to the description mate 👍🏻

Top work again lads! The finish on the control arms 👌
Nice one mike
Cheers for the control arms mate 👍🏻
@@MendItModIt no worries fair play you made them mint
What’s the name of the tool used to remove the inner tie rod? Needing to do this job on my car but never seen that before🤔
I think it’s just called an inner tie rod removal tool mate, did I not link it in the description? 🤦🏻♂️
Loving the content 👌

Thank you mate, have you had issues with them yourself after a period of time? 😬
@@MendItModIt so, 5 months later with floflex. What do you think now?
@@MendItModIt I'd love an update too, 6 months :)
Hmmmm
Great work, how are the bushes holding up??
Spot on, no complaints

if your drill bits are not HSS (High Speed Steal) then they will just round off
Nothing more creepy than an old man in a shopping trolly car
Not sure what that means 😂
