I get why they removed "Axe to Grind" (The real reason) But they should have left it in. This shows some rather important character development for the both of them, it also shows that she doesn't hate him like she's made out to be in the community. It also adds more to her reasoning of reacting so badly to Hiccups "Sudden success" "We finally get a chance to show them what we got, I am so excited" Makes her reaction a little more sensible then just "being a bitch" It also shows that they could get along if needed, and she doesn't actively seek out to be mean to him. Most of her jabs at him in this scene are her typical casual talk. From the look of it, it's more like she avoids him due to his destructive tendencies (He literally destroys part of the Village in the movie for crying out loud) And his lack of Viking qualities, those 2 facts together are unlikely to make him any friends on Berk... Human friends. Though what Hiccup said at the start has me wondering how often they have idle chat like this: "Please... Astrid wouldn't come near me if she was on fire and I had the only bucket of water in town." Probably not often. I wonder if this comes from his lack of self esteem, as Astrid doesn't seem to match that description of her in this scene However, 15 yr old Astrid is - for the lack of a better word - Impulsive, and doesn't really care about how her actions affect those around her, especially if you compare her to her 18 and 20 yr old selves, her character is far more mature and caring at those ages then she was at 15. Final thoughts: Astrid is not the bitch that a lot of people in this community make her out to be. But she isn't very caring or considerate of how she treats others until years later *RTTE*
Eh, I really don't think that's the issue, but more of the fact that Hiccup or Astrid herself brings up her flaws throughout the story. And I think the scene at the dock, felt like a missed potential for this. Because I feel like her confronting Hiccup to why he didn’t kill Toothless wasn't more unelaborated, especially when she says she wants to hear what he says. But throughout the first half of the movie, she never cared about how he felt or what he had to say, even treating him as beneath her. It wasn't until Hiccup showed her that dragons like Toothless weren't dangerous that she began to change her heart. But before, Vikings like Astrid were always getting everything, and it never mattered how many times she messed up, because, unlike her, Hiccup was always getting looked down upon whatever he messes up. It would’ve been interesting if the argument on the dock has the two realizing that they are very much alike. So here's how I think the argument on the dock should have gone: Astrid: So why didn't you? (Why Hiccup didn't kill Toothless) Hiccup: I don't know. I couldn't. Astrid: That's not an answer. Hiccup: Well, why is this so important to you all of a sudden? Astrid: Because I want to remember what you say, RIGHT NOW. Hiccup: [angry] DON'T DO THAT! Oh please, don't do that! You were just like everyone else! You NEVER cared what I had to say or how I feel! Astrid: Hiccup, I... Hiccup: Vikings like you have everything! You don't have to be good! You can screw up over and over again, and the whole village likes you still! Astrid: Please, just... Hiccup: You'll never know what it's like to be seen as a failure, because YOU WERE BORN A VIKING! Astrid: [angrily bursts out] Yeah, I'm a Viking! I'm the Viking who failed the test! The one who had force themselves to train harder, and the one who was so afraid of letting everyone down! Because.... I just wanted to make them proud of me. [Sighs and sits down on the dock] Hiccup, I'll never know how you feel, okay… but you're not the only failure here. I may act like a Viking… but the truth is.... most of the time I'm terrified. [For a few seconds, Hiccup is just silent and finally sits down with Astrid] Hiccup: Why didn't you ever tell me that before? Astrid: Because... we weren't friends before. Hiccup: I guess that's why I couldn't do it. Astrid: What? Hiccup: I could've to kill him (Toothless). He seemed so scary and vicious, but when I looked into his eyes, he looked as frightened as I was. It was like.... I was looking at myself. So there you have it. Basically giving the argument much more depth, Astrid gets a moment to speak about herself for once with Hiccup, while also connecting to why that her and Hiccup are so much alike, even connecting to Hiccup's reason to why he didn't kill Toothless.

+madison kirby well, sometimes you have to cut out even just 2 minutes, because it's a hella lot to animate, just think about it, 1 second has 24 frames (standard animation framerate), so 2 minutes would be 2880 pictures, that in 3D can take up months to animate (especially in a movie that is detailed and kept realistic), and you need (of course) to pay the animators for that extra time, which you usually don't have the money for (unless the producer can whip up some extra money and take the risk)..so it makes perfect sense to cut out a few extra minutes, sometimes even just seconds if it's not in the budget
Am I the only one who got a few small feels at 5:17 when he looks over to the other Viking fathers his eyes widening thorough 5:24 when he goes back to normall Hiccup, but seems lost in thought when the other kids are hugging there perants saying goodbye, seeming to know that's just not him?
“Excuse me pardon me. Im afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms and extra guts and glory on the side.” Many later he becomes the hero of berk, persuades all of berk that dragons are good, changes berk. Years later he becomes a hero over and over again and then becomes chief. I think you were the right offspring hiccup.
The conversation about Hiccup's problems with his father remind me of the problems my cousins and I have with our grandfather. He treats everyone of his grandchildren horribly, but me being the oldest of them and a girl, got it much worse as I was seen as a disappointment. I even said something similar to to Hiccup's, "If I didn't live in the same house as him", line. Mine was more like, "If I didn't look so much like him, I'd never believe we were related." Just a few months ago, he was yelling at me for not knowing he had a sister who died back in the 1970s. No one ever told me about any of our relatives outside of my 1st cousins. He threatened one of my cousins with making sure he would never get a job if it didn't involve the "family business of farming". He's a jerk though and through. We all agree that he is the only relative who we can't wait to pass.
I don't know anything about your family, your life, or your circumstances. But I only hope your grandfather has a change of heart before it's too late. For your sake, and his. To end on such bad terms is kinda sad.
"There's the Viking way and then there's your way and your way makes grown men uncomfortable."~Gobber "Speaking of uncomfortable I'd like a change of subject please."~Hiccup "All right, how's it going with the ladies."~Gobber (Speaking of making grown men uncomfortable, Gobber, the look on your face when you ask Hiccup about his love life is making me uncomfortable)
Ahhh, loved the way Gobber was trying to ship Hicstrid here! :D Feels kinda weird when ur dad's friends ask about girls but then it feels kinda cool when they give support :D Also, this gives me a weird vibe... like, ATM we all know Hicstrid is a thing (A very big thing! :D) but when we look back we see all this when she sort of hated him I guess, dayumn O_O And I wonder why they made her taller and seem more grown up here, makes him look more like a baby compared to her :/ I'd prefer it if he looked more grown up than her.
I guess so. But it's just that from all I remember, she usually didn't take him well the most. But I guess that was due to him stealing her victories. That is kinda true. Well, when they were teenagers they looked about equal, but when they turned into adults he did actually seem more grown up and stuff. He's taller, he's more of a risk taker, etc, etc.
Yeah, I was pointing to that about him taking what she thought was rightfully hers. In a way I get how she feels. It also reminds me of Kung Fu Panda where Tigress gets mad that Po became the dragon warrior even though she trained so many years. Wait, he carried her? I remember him grabbing her by her waist and letting her lean back but I can't remember him carrying her in his arms (Something tells me my memory just failed me short term. I think I remember him carrying her in a few episodes but I don't know). What episodes did he carry her in do ya remember?
Ah yeah. I also remember when he punched Snotlout in the face, he knocked a few of his teeth out and whatnot XD Too bad Astrid didn't get to see that, she would have LOVED to see that happen to Snotlout XD Also nice GIF, Buffalord Soldier episode was already sweet enough as it was (After all that spit drinking of course) and it's lovely to see how he carried her in this GIF :D
Yeah. It was so funny seeing her beat him up :D I must say, I think that the reason that Astrid didn't like ANYONE except Hiccup was probably cos the writers wanted to make "The perfect relationship". In which I think they succeeded, it shows really well how she's staying away from all other guys and how she cares about Hiccup :D
I'm kinda glad they took this out of the movie. Instead of this cliche bonding in this scene Hiccup and Astrid bonded on a more...down to earth level instead of traditional storybook boy meets girl and they fall in love(Even though we know they like each other).
I disagree. Stoick is great father figure. However, he sets an example that's too big to reach. Hiccup resents the disappointment he is to that and Stoick is disappointed that Hiccup cannot reach it. That creates the broken relationship between the two and makes Hiccup's journey all the more impactful. It turns the broken, disappointment of a relationship into a seemingly impossible journey to become the person you look up to, while still maintaining your identity. HTTYD is a masterpiece in terms of storytelling.
Okay- Am I the only one that noticed how Hiccup touched his cheek/jaw scar when Astrid mentioned wanting a ‘jagged scar’ right across her cheek? The poor thing- 😭
i think the first part is better that the original :D the original is a little bit too fast don't you think guys, the first part of delete scene can be more detailing telling those characters personality. But the original is kinda too fast and can't get enough time to figure out what's going on.(well at least that's my first experience to watch HTTYD1)
Honestly i never really liked Astrid... like... one minute she's a douche, next minute she's all over Hiccup just because he has a cool dragon? I understand that's not how it was supposed to come across, but I always saw it this way. This scene made me see her in a bit of a different light though. I think it would've helped.
+Low Gunfire It was supposed to show that Hiccup wasn't as weak after all, that she started to respect him. I think their relationship had beautiful development
+MacKenzie “Mac” Haverlack I would disagree myself, but I caught a lot of little things that are easy to miss with Astrid's facial expressions and reactions that kinda made me see her in a more generous light. Still, keeping that scene in would have helped to people that don't pay attention to that stuff.
Yeah, I thought “We’re Vikings- it’s an occupational hazard” seemed like one of those lines that would typically only be said at the end if Hiccup’s dad said it earlier in the film. It’s just how animated films work. I don’t really like that cliche all that much, but that surprised me. Side note: I love how many of the lines in that first scene were still in the movie.
If you think about the scene where they're in the house hiccup actually said 'deal' because right after that's when Stoick says 'I'll be back, probably' and they just put it here
no he said it afterwards "Deal?" "this conversation is feeling very 1 sided," "DEAL?" "Deal" then it went (Train hard, ill be back, probably, ill b here maybe)
i dont know why, but i like how hiccup is obviously trying not to sound whiny despite feeling hurt by his dad's denial... poor hiksti... *am i sadistic?* also, does anybody else just get super exciting at stoick's foreshadowing when he says he want hiccup with all limbs intact? xD

(standard animation framerate), so 2 minutes would be 2880 pictures,
that in 3D can take up months to animate (especially in a movie that is
detailed and kept realistic), and you need (of course) to pay the
animators for that extra time, which you usually don't have the money for (unless the
producer can whip up some extra money and take the risk)..so it makes
perfect sense to cut out a few extra minutes, sometimes even just
seconds if it's not in the budget
Am I the only one who got a few small feels at 5:17 when he looks over to the other Viking fathers his eyes widening thorough 5:24 when he goes back to normall Hiccup, but seems lost in thought when the other kids are hugging there perants saying goodbye, seeming to know that's just not him?
“Excuse me pardon me. Im afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms and extra guts and glory on the side.”
Many later he becomes the hero of berk, persuades all of berk that dragons are good, changes berk.
Years later he becomes a hero over and over again and then becomes chief.
I think you were the right offspring hiccup.
Gobber = google translate XD
lol XD
The conversation about Hiccup's problems with his father remind me of the problems my cousins and I have with our grandfather.
He treats everyone of his grandchildren horribly, but me being the oldest of them and a girl, got it much worse as I was seen as a disappointment. I even said something similar to to Hiccup's, "If I didn't live in the same house as him", line.
Mine was more like, "If I didn't look so much like him, I'd never believe we were related."
Just a few months ago, he was yelling at me for not knowing he had a sister who died back in the 1970s.
…With all limbs intact.
I'm laughing SO HARD bc peg leg
"There's the Viking way and then there's your way and your way makes grown men uncomfortable."~Gobber "Speaking of uncomfortable I'd like a change of subject please."~Hiccup "All right, how's it going with the ladies."~Gobber (Speaking of making grown men uncomfortable, Gobber, the look on your face when you ask Hiccup about his love life is making me uncomfortable)
CrazyGamerDragon64 same
2:23 Seeing as it's midnight and I'm already a little dozey and slaphappy, this laugh is killing me X'D
Why couldn't they add this???? God I could watch hours of this in theaters!!!
They couldnt simple draw a 3D if dat asstrid
Same here
Ahhh, loved the way Gobber was trying to ship Hicstrid here! :D Feels kinda weird when ur dad's friends ask about girls but then it feels kinda cool when they give support :D
Also, this gives me a weird vibe... like, ATM we all know Hicstrid is a thing (A very big thing! :D) but when we look back we see all this when she sort of hated him I guess, dayumn O_O
And I wonder why they made her taller and seem more grown up here, makes him look more like a baby compared to her :/ I'd prefer it if he looked more grown up than her.
Ah yeah. I also remember when he punched Snotlout in the face, he knocked a few of his teeth out and whatnot XD Too bad Astrid didn't get to see that, she would have LOVED to see that happen to Snotlout XD
Also nice GIF, Buffalord Soldier episode was already sweet enough as it was (After all that spit drinking of course) and it's lovely to see how he carried her in this GIF :D
Yeah, jumped and kissed him XD
-y'know, out of happiness :D
I remember she was happy to hear the few times that Snotlout "Almost died' XD
Yeah. It was so funny seeing her beat him up :D
I must say, I think that the reason that Astrid didn't like ANYONE except Hiccup was probably cos the writers wanted to make "The perfect relationship".
Hiccup looks so pissed off in most of these scenes lolz
Is it just me out gobber Is being a better father figure than stoick himself
Or at least before red death
William Frederick iversen
He is
William Frederick iversen
I am sure many people would see him and stoik as brothers because of how close and similar they are
True!
Stoick actually had a better relationship with Hiccup when he was a kid but things got rocky when Hiccup became a teenager.
Though I'm glad they didn't use the scenes, the drawings of Hiccup (doing anything) are so adorable.
“Speaking of uncomfortable, can we have a different conversation please” HAD ME DYING WHY DIDNT THEY ADD THAT? THIS IS AMAZINGLY GOOD
3:54 I guess Hiccup is from Minnesota.
i lov how the "i know right? pain, LOVE IT" went from being as a way to impress astrid to being sarcastic
I love how Gobber acts like a partially creepy uncle in the first scene. Actually, I live Gobber in both scenes.
Those are so good. I looooooooooooooove the first one. Sassy Hiccup is the best Hiccup xD
Okay- Am I the only one that noticed how Hiccup touched his cheek/jaw scar when Astrid mentioned wanting a ‘jagged scar’ right across her cheek? The poor thing- 😭
*this here this is a talking fishbone!*
Me: a talking fishbone that rides the Unholy Offspring of lightning and death itself
i think the first part is better that the original :D
the original is a little bit too fast don't you think guys, the first part of delete scene can be more detailing telling those characters personality.
But the original is kinda too fast and can't get enough time to figure out what's going on.(well at least that's my first experience to watch HTTYD1)
Agreed.
This scene really should have stayed it adds more in lots of characters and their relationships and doesn’t really hurt anything
Loved the "Axe to Grind" bit so much, I snuck it into a FanFiction story.
Marty theMartian I kinda want to include it in a fic I am writing. It's set before httyd1. Like several months before
@@TheEstee45 Awesome! I know I'm late but if you notice this, what's the story? I'd like to read it X3
Honestly i never really liked Astrid... like... one minute she's a douche, next minute she's all over Hiccup just because he has a cool dragon? I understand that's not how it was supposed to come across, but I always saw it this way.
This scene made me see her in a bit of a different light though. I think it would've helped.
Agreed.
Without that deleted scene, Astrid just comes off as a douchebag in the film.
+Low Gunfire It was supposed to show that Hiccup wasn't as weak after all, that she started to respect him. I think their relationship had beautiful development
+TheLiteralMuffin agreed
+MacKenzie “Mac” Haverlack I would disagree myself, but I caught a lot of little things that are easy to miss with Astrid's facial expressions and reactions that kinda made me see her in a more generous light. Still, keeping that scene in would have helped to people that don't pay attention to that stuff.
+MacKenzie “Mac” Haverlack I just attributed it to them being teenagers with hormones all over the place.
Stoick: I want him back, all limbs intact
Ha
Ha
Ha
6:04 OK Hiccup throw a HUGE HOUSE PARTY.
AH THAT SECOND SCENE WITH THE MUSIC BROKE MY HEART
It's the first time that I saw someone of Astrid's family (her dad).
So many scenes that even though they didn't make the cut still would've made this movie awesome
Stoick "i want him back with ALL limbs attached"
me "let's do a count Head, Body, Arms, Legs, Hands, & Feet......will you be okay with 6/7?"
2:58 R rated how to train your dragon
"I want him with all limbs intact" WEEELLL TOOO BAAADDDD
3:13 is hiccup looking at Astrid’s butt 😂
I like this, it helps cement hiccups characterization as less bumbling nervous wreck and more smart in his own element and terrified when out of it
I love gobbers laugh at 2:23
I wish they would actually animate these scenes
Yes he said dam.
AW he cared about Hiccup and wanted him with all limbs attached
"I want him back, with all limbs intact."
Oh? Haven't you heard?
"I want him back with all limbs intact."
*OOF* that one hurts
If you think about the scene where they're in the house hiccup actually said 'deal' because right after that's when Stoick says 'I'll be back, probably' and they just put it here
no he said it afterwards "Deal?" "this conversation is feeling very 1 sided," "DEAL?" "Deal" then it went (Train hard, ill be back, probably, ill b here maybe)
I’m dying at Gobber obviously shipping Hiccstrid here 😂 “my manly apprentice will service all of your needs” - way to be subtle, Gobber
"This is a talking fishbone"
AWWWW that last one would have been HILARIOUS.
i dont know why, but i like how hiccup is obviously trying not to sound whiny despite feeling hurt by his dad's denial... poor hiksti...
*am i sadistic?*
also, does anybody else just get super exciting at stoick's foreshadowing when he says he want hiccup with all limbs intact? xD
I can’t believe the first one was deleted, it’s golden
I like how even though the scenes were scrapped in a way they still happened in a way.
3:14 Pervcup XD
Thdy in the same age its not perv then looking for 1 second at that asstrid
In an alternate universe this film had a longer running time.
So Astrid is really attracted to Hiccup because he got the ultimate scar of all... and amputated limb.
Gobber forever
Best line in the entire franchise: ‘Excuse me, barmaid, I’m afraid you’ve brought me the wrong offspring! I ordered an extra large boy with beefy arms, extra guts and glory on the side. This here, this is a talkin’ fishbone!’
i love the sequence where hiccup fix astrid's axe more than in the movie
its so cool how they didn't just delete the scene. they disassembled in and fit it across the movie
Scene showed one hiccup really liked Astrid more then we thought he did back then and though Astrid was hard on him she showed lots of interest in his inventions which was sparking up there love
Just make a 2D animated short already!
***** no it switched from 2D to 3D, I want pure 2D
I woulllddd cryyy
So many great lines! Gobber is hilarious! And Hiccup hahaha DAMN! XD
Gobber: "My uhr... manly apprentice here will service all of your needs"
Yes, he certainly will.
Astrid was suprisingly nice to hiccup here
The part of Gobber translating between Hiccup and his dad was sweet and really sad
watching this made me realize that hiccup was the only one who actually ever got a scar from a dragon
Cant wait for how to train your dragon 2
aww classic hiccup~ still so awkward
I WOULD HAVE LOVE IT IF THESE WHERE PART OF THE MOVIE
I actually like this more than the original. Especially the part where Hiccup gets distracted. 😂
omg i luved this movie for 8 years so far and i never even seen this, i seen the books the tv seiries, the netflix and the movies ( of course ) and i even saw the deleted scene in the second movie but i never seen this!!
I like how some of the voice clips were reused at new parts in the final movie.
That line is foreshadowing.
I like that even though these scenes were taken out. Some lines still got in
