Yes indeed. The song before this, and which runs into this, is the Grammy-winning short instrumental “Cinema” (after the Jon-less iteration of the same name). I had CTTE and Fragile on cassette and then saw the 9012Live concert on TV, and it started with those two songs. I was instantly a fan of both eras and remain so 40 years later ❤
Sorry if I missed it, but have you gone through The Friends of Mr. Cairo with Jon & Vangelis? Title track is unique and very Jon Anderson. Some other good stuff as well.
I remember when the first one played through with them just standing there,a dn I thought. "Well, OK. That was different." Little did I know what was to come. WIKI: "The music video (directed by Godley and Creme) depicts the band members standing in a line and dressed in black business suits as their images go through video-created abstract effects. It was one of the first music videos to utilize computer-generated imagery. Eighteen different variations of the video were made (the first one, for instance, simply had the band upside-down, but motionless for the whole song, while the seventh one was just the first one but with only Jon Anderson), with the eleventh one chosen as the "standard" version, and has remained the "official" video. A half-hour documentary on the making of the video was broadcast on MTV in 1984."
Every iteration of Yes has had standout musicians and music. We sometimes get too nostalgic for what drew us to them in the first place and too easily dismiss what came later on. I know I’m guilty of that myself.
Exactly Barry. I'm definitely the same way... On the one hand I love YES kept on the cutting edge of technology throughout their existence, but I questioned at the time, is this still YES? My 18 year old brain couldn't wrap my head around it - I like this but am I allowed to when it's destroyed something that I loved? ☮❤🎶
Thanks Lee! Yes I like 90125, it's ALL I had at the time! Lol I don't compare it to them with their best lineup (in my opinion) when Bruford was there or even stuff after Alan White replaced him. It's very different but somehow i hear small traces of "Yesness" at times. There's an acappella version of Leave It that I really like. I swear I think I hear a throat clear in one part! Lol Thanks again!
In the 80’s when everything on the radios & MTV was pop & electronic sounds etc…then your fav band comes out with this🤔 Have to admit I grew to love it. Owner was a Hit and got much radio time! So did this song!❤ I liked that younger people were interested and dove into their library. Boy were they surprised! A lot of reactioners on UA-cam start with Owner and take the dive and become Fans as well!😊 So is it my favorite Yes album No…but it is still part of their library and has its place in my life!😊 All members still skilled as hell! ❤
not really....but the public is. People especially young people in the 80's 90's & 21st century Love this album and have purchased the album making the album their most successful album today. And people of all ages really like this album.
Another great YES Saturday! Thanks L33! I have mixed feelings about this era of YES for the reasons you and others in the comments have described. But it was commercially successful and it was good to see a new set of fans exposed to their great music! ☮❤🎶
Finally! More 80-90s! This is what made me go back and “discover” their 70s stuff. Hope you hit all the 90125, Big Generator, and Talk tracks. I know you’ve done a few off each album. Just hoping for more of those - so many flavors of Yes to know and love!
Yes combined a decade later and did the UNION Tour. It was an impressive collection of both lineups. The live concert was not to be missed, saw the tour in Atlanta!
I don't know why I thought of this, but I hope someone will post a reaction to See The World by Vinegar Joe. I only heard it maybe once or twice on the radio, and I thought it was a cool song that might get lost to history. I guess I associate it with those early Yes songs. (Actually, at first I thought it was Yes. I was clueless, I know. 😊)
Sorry if I missed it, but have you gone through The Friends of Mr. Cairo with Jon & Vangelis? Title track is unique and very Jon Anderson. Some other good stuff as well.
I always had mixed feelings about 90125, I was happy for them cause they reached a larger audience, more fame more money etc. But looking back I think its great album but I still prefer the CTTE era. The same counts for Peter Gabriël's "So".
My favorite album of all music history is Tales From Topographic Oceans. That said, I place 90125 at 11th in the Yes catalog. Much better than that is their follow up, Big Generator. Everything about Big G is light years ahead of 90125. Number 3 in the Yes catalog for me, BG is 12th on my all time favorites. Yet when I don't compare 90125 to all other Yes albums, it's a very good album, with side 2 being the most progressive part of the album. They thankfully do not leave their prog roots, and make good pop songs in the process. Our Song is my favorite, and Hearts is a very fine closer for this very good album.
The JCM Channel, a Led Zep documentary channel, did a good doc on this album. This album was originally a Trevor Rabin project. Rabin was a young guitarist who had no affiliation with Yes. Producer Trevor Horn brought the member of Yes and Rabin together and it became a Yes album.
You are hearing Trevor and Chris singing over 100 voices and then they added Anderson‘s voice in later. I appreciate the humor of the video and I accepted it for what it is at that time. Yes seemed dead and I was happy to have a new one incarnation of the band after having enjoyed them all through the 70s.
As a bass player whose favourite band is yes I can say that this is one of my personal favourite songs to play. It’s pretty dang easy but it’s is so groovy.
Steve Howe reckoned that Asia influenced this era of Yes. He may have a point. Prog is supposed to be progressive so it needs to evolve. Listen to King Crimson. I'm a hardcore classic lineup fan but I really like this album.
Hey L33 Yes was different on this album due to new guitar 🎸 player Trevor Rabin. Replacing Legend Steve Howe. It's a great song, great album. Just different from other Yes. IMHO 🎶🎶🎵🎶🔥💯✌️☮️🕊️❤️🩵
Long story short, this album was originally to be recorded by a band named "Cinema", not "Yes", although most of the band members were in "Yes" in one time or another.
I was shocked when this came out back in 83. I was by then a huge fan of the classic YES and we all thought Drama was the end. In fact there were rumors in the press snd media that Chris and Alan were teaming up with Plant and Page in a project cslled XYZ!! The ex members of YES and Zeppelin, and it was briefly a legit prospect, but apparently according to Jimmy Page, whem they first jammed together, it was so terrible, they all realized that there was no chemistry!!! obviously a shot gun wedding that wasn't gonna fly! So we were all anxiously expecting XYZ, and instead we got this album and Steve teaming up with Carl Palmer snd John Wettan in the 'other' 80s disappointment, Asia. However, revisiting 90125 always surprises me, it is a damn good album, Rabin was a monster. Squire and Rabin had a powerful partnership that worked and I can't pan the music just because it wasn't Close to tbe Edge, the songs were great, their sound was hard and crunchy enough to scare the shit out of all of the 80s metal hair bands who thought they were shredding, and the old YES occasionally peeked out at us from songs like Changes, Our Song and most noticibly in their YESSish instrumental piece, Cinema..
Bad Yes is still good music. Not my taste. The 80’s were weird for many reasons. To me it was the awkward phase transitioning from the peace/love/cosmic/hippie music into the beginnings of a new era of technology and pursuit of popularity instead of epic creativity.
Are you a fan of this era of Yes?
Yes indeed. The song before this, and which runs into this, is the Grammy-winning short instrumental “Cinema” (after the Jon-less iteration of the same name). The best dance mix Yes ever made is the Leave It Hello Goodbye Remix
Sorry if I missed it, but have you gone through The Friends of Mr. Cairo with Jon & Vangelis? Title track is unique and very Jon Anderson. Some other good stuff as well.
Yes.
90125 is a good album (of course, marked by its era) but its successor Big Generator is an album too far! (never liked that one)😉
"90125" is a historic album and you should listen to the whole thing.
Godley and Creme were video directors, but were two of the original members of 10cc.
There was a full acapella version of this also released
I liked Trevor Rabin, played a little harder than Howe. Loved both their styles!!❤😊
If I remember correctly, there were 11-13 versions of videos for this, Different colors, etc,
I remember when the first one played through with them just standing there,a dn I thought. "Well, OK. That was different." Little did I know what was to come.

Great song, I remember the video coming on MTV
The only era that Yes had two lead vocalist
they were a different band and added Anderson later so he was just integrated into the project.
Thanks Lee! Yes I like 90125, it's ALL I had at the time! Lol I don't compare it to them with their best lineup (in my opinion) when Bruford was there or even stuff after Alan White replaced him. This will be my earworm all day. Loved this back in the day, such a catchy tune. Thanks, L33, have a great day. Blessings all.
Same here! It's already stuck in my head.

I saw this tour at the Cow Palace. The show opened with the short (Grammy winning) instrumental "Cinema" and this was the second song.
That was a fun track .. catchy tune .. liked it
THANK YOU LEE! Been waiting for this for a long time! Cinema is actually the beginning of this…
☮️❤️😎🎼

Check out Trevor Robin’s solo song-(Something to Hold on to)-awesome song MTV staple
Just listened to this song this morning while cleaning. Love me some Yes!! 🤘🏼🔥
Magnification?
Not for me but music is everyone. They will always be close to the edge and awaken to me
I don't know why I thought of this, but I hope someone will post a reaction to See The World by Vinegar Joe. Have you checked out Heat of the Moment by Asia yet? {Asia is a supergroup formed by members of Yes and ELP}.
He's already listened to several songs from their debut album, including 'Heat Of The Moment', and he's been liking it so far 😀👍
Sorry if I missed it, but have you gone through The Friends of Mr. Cairo with Jon & Vangelis? Title track is unique and very Jon Anderson. Some other good stuff as well.
80's yes, ugh
I always had mixed feelings about 90125, I was happy for them cause they reached a larger audience, more fame more money etc. But looking back I think its great album but I still prefer the CTTE era. The same counts for Peter Gabriël's "So".
Yeah, So was the last PG album I bothered with
I feel exactly the same way Paul. ☮❤🎶

@ Agreed on Big Generator. Really good.

Arguably one the best bands, regardless of lineup, but it's always been the vocals that sets them apart from all the others.
Next Yes: Fly From Here (Return Trip) 😊
I think he should listen to the earlier version with Benoit David first.
@ I prefer Trevor but, of course, it’s subjective 👍🏻
As a bass player whose favourite band is yes I can say that this is one of my personal favourite songs to play. It’s pretty dang easy but it’s is so groovy.
That was so much fun! It's already stuck in my head 😂
"Hold On," "Leave It" and "It Can Happen" are all close to equal quality tracks to "Owner..."
It's a very good album.
Steve Howe reckoned that Asia influenced this era of Yes. He may have a point. Prog is supposed to be progressive so it needs to evolve. Listen to King Crimson. I'm a hardcore classic lineup fan but I really like this album.
Excellent album ❤
This is the soundtrack to the summer between kindergarten & first grade. The video was a big deal @the time.
Back in the day, bot the song and the video kinda melted our brains.
It has such a weird energy. The video is freaky 😱
Hey L33 Yes was different on this album due to new guitar 🎸 player Trevor Rabin. Replacing Legend Steve Howe. It's a great song, great album. Just different from other Yes. IMHO

I remember this video being a big deal back in the day. It's not my favorite Yes song at all, still catchy though.
You should also react to the acapella version of this - very cool!
Lee, for you next "YES" reaction, try "All In A Matter Of Time" from Jon's Animation album.
FUN
Saw this tour! It was the 3rd time I'd seen them and this was an amazing tune live🤘✌😊!
Not really the same band as TFTO at all. Only Jon Alan and Chris....from that.
How about some music by Godley&Creme : "Crime & Punishment". Or another great and very iconic video produced by them : Herbie Hancock´s "Rockit".
Worse video ever but great song!
Bad Yes is still good music. Not my taste. The 80’s were weird for many reasons. To me it was the awkward phase transitioning from the peace/love/cosmic/hippie music into the beginnings of a new era of technology and pursuit of popularity instead of epic creativity.
You should come back to 70s YES, because as much as I like this song, 80s YES isn't half as good as 70s YES.
