  • Izumo Soba considered to be one of the top three noodles of Japan. This is the only that I hadn’t tried yet. We also try Zenzai, which is the other food of Izumo.

I do like how Japan has this touristy thing (hard to describe a right word) for their food where you can only get "proper" versions of certain foods in areas you have to travel to get to. It gives little places their own identity and reason to travel to. Also loved Satoshi in this video, what a guy lol

Oh yes, there are people, and not retirees either, who use up their vacation time flying to various countries to eat dishes and delicacies authentically prepared and presented. Personally I don't have the time, money or inclination for food tourism, and only wish that those who can and do....not rub it in the faces of people unable to do the same. Not referring to you at all but to a very attitudinal woman from Down Under with whom I once had an exchange of words, who really should have kept her obnoxious mouth shut.

The Izumo Taisha shrine was absolutely beautiful. Just to touch that kind of history would be amazing. And Satoshi looked so happy to be on that old train.😊

What a gorgeous natural setting for one of Japan's oldest shrines! The Taisha Zukuri architecture is so graceful and iconic. I really wish I'd been with you to visit Izumo Taisha--I'm an animist by nature, and Shinto is so comfortable for me and yet I've never been to a shrine.
The soba was interesting--so many varieties. While I'm not a fan of "slimy" textures, I'll definitely try natto, mountain yam, and raw egg if I ever make it to Japan--they may end up changing my mind.
Thank you so much for another lovely, peaceful video.❤️❤️

I always enjoy all of your videos. That old train was very impressive. Built in 1928, and retired in 2009. A testament to excellent design, engineering and maintenance. Here in Connecticut your videos always come on late at night and I go to sleep thinking about the delicious food that you just ate!

You can buy dried soba from a Japanese store in your area. I bought two, one with matcha and another 100% soba (no wheat like most dried soba packages). I follow Just One Cookbook to make it cold or as a soup. A soba shop outside of the Kameido train station in Tokyo was serving a set for 350 yen in 2019 when I was in Japan. That was very cheap compared to ramen or Coco Curry.

Oh wow! You guys made it to Izumo shrine! Are you gonna cover more of this trip on Tabieats channel? I would love to see more of this.
The atmosphere of this place feels really different from the other places you have been, it feels sacred somehow. That huge white torii looks kinda scary and threatening. The huge ropey thing is also very impressive, it's like the body of a giant snake entwining. I thought the shrine building would look taller though 🤔
And of course, let's not forget the food! Such delicious looking soba, you guys ate so much haha😂

Also, I lived in Tokyo for 2 years, and Mom wondered about the slurping of noodles. You answered that question too. I wish I had been more adventurous when I lived there. I'm going to try and find a Japanese restaurant here where I live. It just looks so good. Do you have bad restaurants????? Thanks for all you guys do. Thanks for all the descriptions. Take care.
