I have a TV alcove, so I need to add supports, I am planning recessing them back a bit so when the TV is up, it is Flush against the wall.
I may loose some travel of it in the down position. My dilemma is my center channel is much larger and rather heavy. Thought about using two center channel speakers, one on the mantle for when the TV is up and one in the alcove for when the TV is down.
Still planning this out but need to hurry, my new 77" TV will be here next week!

Your video has been helpful. But once you pull the tv down, how do you get it to push back toward the fireplace so that it’s not sticking out into the room while we’re watching it? Look at your video at 1:33 as you push the tv back toward the fireplace.

Hello Dean & Tammy, Question. What's the size of the box you built? Or could you show a video on the material use to making the box. 😇

Thank you for viewing and your question. The box was 11.75" tall and 36.75" wide, outside dimensions. it is made of 2 lengths of 2"x2" standard lumber for the top and bottom, with a 1/2"x2" strip to tie the ends together. The size of the box was based on our wall and stud arrangement, so if your wall is different, it will have to be sized based on your wall. The most important item is the bolt length to reach a sufficient depth in the wall stud, and making sure the bolt is directly in the center of the stud. The video has closeups showing the box starting at 11:47. Hope this answers your question, and you may want to try the MantleMount site as well, since they have installation galleries and videos now that did not exist when we purchased our mount. Thanks again!

I have a question … looks like there is a LOT of Lee way about mounting the brackets on the back of the TV …. Instructions say end the bottom of the brackets 3 to 10 inches from bottom of TV, centering as much as possible. Do you have insights on that being BEST? I.e. should I try to keep those brackets centered ? Or should one lean up or downward slightly for best hiding of brackets when up max and down max positions of TV ? Hope that question makes sense … appreciate any guidance.
Also … is there anything wrong with hanging the TV first to optimally select where an electric outlet will be installed, as well as a pass-through cable system? I have three 45 foot 4K HDMI cables … as the DVRs and such will be inside a cabinet on an adjacent wall … which is too far away for running power extension units, so I plan on paying an electrician to set up a new electric outlet somewhere near the mm350 setup. So, recap, since I’m doing that … anything wrong with mounting TV first then selecting locations for electric outlets ?

Is there any reason why you could not have shifted the wall bracket to the left or the right in order to still hit two studs and then have the "arm" placed off center (ie centered on the wall still, but shifted to the right or the left within the wall bracket)? I'm looking at this mount (which supposedly is capable of this off center mounting according to a video on MantelMount's site) vs a cheaper alternative (Monoprice) that does not support putting the arm at any position but the middle. I want to make certain this off center mounting of the arm is supported so I don't have to do a false wall as you did. I hope this makes sense.

What is the depth of your mantle mine is 20” inches will that work with the MM540?

Could this also solve issues of the mantelmount not extended far enough from wall to clear the depth of the mantel top? Our mantel is 21" depth from wall and the mount can only clear 18" outwards.

May I have the dimensions of the custom built piece the wall please?

Jim, thanks for watching our video! The dimensions of the added wall frame was 11.75" tall x 36.75" wide. This was based on the bracket size as well as where the wall studs were located, and it so happened to coincide with the size of the plastic covers. Your installation may vary, depending on the model you have, though you would want to have the wall frame at least as big or larger than the covers for esthetic reasons.
