OH, one more thing. Don't get a Testarossa... Get a 308, or better yet a 512 Boxer. Testarossa's are post retirement Ferraris. 308 is just a better first Ferrari, getting a rough one "up to spec" would generate enough good content to fund actually owning the car in the first place. Or a boxer, boxers are a step up from 308's and the driving experience in a BB 512 is just waaay better than a Testarossa. At the end of the day, get the Ferrari that's "calling" you, I just wanted to give you some food for thought...

There's only 1 way to truly get that sound. Get a flat 12. The sound doesn't come from the exhaust as much as the engine layout. V8's can sound great also, but 12's have their own unique tone.

The Corporate Concepts Mera was the ultimate Feauxrarri rebody. You could buy a new Mera through your Pontiac dealer in 87 and 88 for about the price of a corvette and it was a darn good quality 308 look alike built on a Fiero chassis. You could not buy it as a kit. Only already installed on a new Fiero, as an “upgrade” through Pontiac.
I own the prototype that sat on the Detroit auto show floor in 87.

I wouldn’t be throwing any money at it to be honest.

but that replica just looked weird and off from the start, the side by side makes the difference blatant. the real got its signature look from being so wide and so low.
the replica really aint that bad considering; but in my eyes there is no way i'd ever think it was the real deal, even from 50 feet or 100mph

  • @lancenutter1067

I really loved the comparison! The trans am Ferrari looks way better now, than a regular trans am, in my opinion. Also, I’ve owned 2 Fiero’s back in the 90’s and they were my entry level cars to loving rear or mid engine cars (I owned some VW Bugs too so had rear engine cars too). I had a SE V6 auto and then a base 4 cylinder manual. Anyway, I think the Ferrari with an LS engine is a great idea. American reliability and Italian design. Shelby Cobra ideas right there. Also, I’m a proud owner of a 2002 Boxster S which I call my baby supercar. Was inexpensive, yet 260hp, 2800lbs, 6 speed transmission and very reliable. The mid engine car stuff, for me has been realized in this really cool Boxster. Really like the channel. Thanks!

The front end is pretty close. If you painted the lower part of the front fascia white like your friend's car is by giving your car more visual height up front it would help hide the TransAm profile. The side marker replacement is a pretty easy fix also if you don't mind doing fiberglass work and repainting your front fenders. Replacing the rubber door trim thing on the rear hatch with the proper wire mesh is also an easy fix that would upgrade the quality of the replica. Even the interior -- if you like working on cars and have the money why not? If you consider the car a work of art rather than just an investment the resale value of the car shouldn't be the main consideration. The length front to rear of the vertical side of the rear hatch panel immediately behind the quarter window you want to replace also is an area that attracts attention, but may be hard to change due to the placement of the chassis and rear glass at the back of the cabin. If you could push the seam back and extend the quarter panel back a few inches it would give you more room to install the new authentic quarter panel window. Although I would probably fabricate the quarter panel windows out of lexan and aluminum frame rather than pay the ridiculous price for authentic Ferrari windows. You've got the dimensions from your friend's car. That also gives you the option to shorten the window a bit if you have to in order to make it fit. No-one will see an inch or so without a tape measure.

It depends on the car. The FF or F12 or 599 are all very comfortable cars for long distance driving

Theres a visible line running from the bottom of the windows all the way to the back of the car, this could be pulled off with a black pinstripe. Edit- also (I know from later videos you put in the rear glass look) from this over the roof to replicate the engine cover lines. Loving this by the way, you have a mission and its telly for us all. Not sure if it's possible to lower it a bit more? And obviously the wheels which is no doubt on the list.
Paint behind the louvers on the side vents black, look at the original. Its a cheap fix up, I don't know how far you need the paint, maybe 20 inches from the rear? Alternatively you could go blls deep and partially fill in the louvers and reshape further down the doors. Its not that difficult I've been restoring fibreglass race bikes and own a plastic Lotus. for years, the biggest challenge is blending the paint after.
If you add a rear facing vent between the rear wheels and back end of the body this will break up the long rear overhang. similar to an F40 but try keep the Testarossa look.
I'm not stopping now, also move the Ferrari badge on the front wings further forward to take the eye from the long distance between the front wheels and the door.
Paint is an amazing thing, I would also use black paint to create the lower side window shape more in-keeping with the original, you wouldn't need a lot, get some painters tape to create the line on of the TR.

I have always wondered why folks with these kits dont just eliminate the 2 part window and cut the fiero brace and create one window with just a rubber strip stuck on longer new glass to create a fugazi window support.

Seriously. They are both beautiful cars. I would be very proud to own the replica just as much as the real one. Only thing I would change is the wing mirrors. Get that single one fitted like in Miami vice 😌 oh yes

47:47 as a millennial, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment! Also what others fail to a realize: you have a 4 seater Testarossa! Keep up the good work!

I honestly don't think the kit car is a really good replica of the Ferrari. I will say that your thumbnail made them look way closer than they actually are.

28:31 - Even if I saw the replica alone on the streets, I would be able to spot it as a fake easily.
HOW SO? The symmetry and the contours are off. The wheels look too small for the fake Ferrari's body and don't fit the wheel wells. The rear quarter section sticks out too far. Ironically, if you put larger than normal size Ferrari Replica Wheels on that car, it wouldn't look so obvious as a fake because it would at least match the larger than normal wheel well.
    TO BE HONEST,
I am a huge fan of real supercars and kit cars. As a teenager, I had a subscription to Kit Car Magazine and Road &Track Magazine, so I've probably seen more than the average person when it came to real vs fake supercars. I remember when the default donor car for almost all Ferrari and Lamborghini Replicas was the Pontiac Fiero. The fact that you used a HUGE Firebird and not a Fiero may account for YOUR car being an obvious fake. When the smaller Fiero is used, the differences are almost indistinguishable because of the size and mid-engine mount.

Was about to write the same, the back and the wheel sitting way too close together, almost disappearing into the wells from certain angles...

Bob - Is there any pictures of your Trans Am online with that Lambo wing? I’ve had my 1987 Trans Am since high school and I was always my dream to do exactly that. Lol.

Bob seems like a cool guy but everyone bashes even him about how his Testarossa it's not a Fiero and that it's build right but To be honest I would take that real Testarossa even if it was build on a Fiero chassis rather than your build right Trans am that looks nothing like the real car.
