Frank Marino is criminally underrated.
Why, do you think?
One of the best guitarists that ever walked the earth!👍👏
It's one of those things, it just happens despite your talent. Robert Plant made a point on a BBC programme about this state of affairs. In his case the opposite happened.
As is Shawn Lane 🎸🍻🤟
As is Shawn Lane.
There Are Many Here Amongst Us That Know Frank Marino Is A Gift To Humanity
Absolutely!!!
He's right up there with Hendrix, in my opinion. He can write it, he can rock it, he can shred it, he can blues it, he can jazz it and he can sing it. All world-class.
@Cyan Cat WHY do you think this? I am just asking, and I will await your response. Lets get some info flowing here! I do agree but there's a reason
:)

@@dennismohican599 he egoed u lol
WTF Brilliant!!!👍🤯
He lacks something to be up there with Hendrix but I can't name what it's, may be the soul and the spirit of Hendrix who knows?
@@GiantRock62 It called, a different time. That affects everything. even if by a year etc...
IMHO. ;)
As a guitar player I'm embarrassed to say I know little about this guy. He showed up in my news feed and now I can't get enough of him. Dang this is good.
Thats great, now get ready to enjoy his music . He truly is a one-of-a-kind . Check his LIVE album from 78 or 77 . Its in the time period there . You will be forever a fan
@@temporarysaint740 you are right....dang that's good. Thanks for sharing.

Long life to the king
@@Piero9551 no I'm an old metal head but my tastes have mellowed out. Also my guitar playing has mellowed a little so I'm really on a Steve Howe, Steve Hackett and marrilion kick lately.
Thanks to all the TRUE fans!
I gotta guess....the 1 thumbs down on this clip....was either a Bieber fan? or a Nugent fan? Whatever! lol
Frank Marino MahoganyRuss One bad ass band,I get this tune in my head and work my ass off...
I have been into you since I was 17 years old. I am 58 March 20th. So yeah I am a TRUE FAN! I picked up guitar after listening to your jams man. You are such an inspiration! Keep on keeping on!
Fantastic! As always. Slightly different tone. Maybe your Preamp going into Tube heads and Celestion cabs??? I but more edge to the mids.
You bet I am, have been since I was a 13 year kid in 78' I turn 52 this month, time flies !
Frank's playing is so authentic. Love him. Pray he is healed tonight.
Yes,His music is real election.
Still one of the best guitarist of all time just never got the recognition that he truly deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't wait for rescheduled show in St.Louis. 5th row! 2nd time 30 yrs lol! True master of the guitar. I think he just gets better live.
He gets the recognition from me and that's all that matters.
@@sperrot3726 Is It still going to be at the River city Casino
@@DanielHoerle-ww9so yes Oct 1. Rivercity has a new schedule out for concerts.
I grew up with his music from the beginning, along with Jimi... Most excellent profound guitarist.
This track blew me away back in 1976! Timeless classic. Iconic! Frank is up there with the GOATS of guitar heroes, in the league of Jimmy Hendrix, Pat Travers, Robin Trower, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Randy Hansen.
Hell yeah..and all them dudes play the shit out of the guitar!...
Jimi
100% Correct! Frank Is A Monster
I've been a dedicated fan for 45 years, and I can honestly say that I NEVER tire of his music. Met him once in front of the Uptown Theatre on February 23, 1983 in Kansas City. He was incredibly down to earth and appreciative of his fans. Frank, if you ever happen to read this I just want to say THANK YOU for a lifetime of wonderful music! God Bless you sir.
I am with you! First heard Frank and Mahogany Rush during my college radio days. When Child of the Novelty showed up at the station, I was instantly hooked, and made it a part of my weekly radio show. This video is amazing, he still sounded great and his playing was still top notch. Too bad about the shoulder injury that has robbed us of this man's genius.
@@paulquintin3607Where was your station? Curious bcuz Frank seemed to be a northeast phenomenon mostly. I'm in Texas and didn't hear him until the 80s with "Strange Dream". 😅 Freaking love his playing. He honestly touches your soul with his licks.
I was in Central Vermont, we love all those great Canadian artists!
@@paulquintin3607 Very cool. 😎 I was lucky enough to see Frank in the 90s in a club here in Houston. Fah-reeking LOUD, especially during his crazy guitar solo.
Gunslinger, to the max !!!
Arguably Frank Marino is the greatest guitarist in the world!
WOW
Frank is pure talent.
Killer playin'
Fantastic band too.
Simply amazing.
Fantastic band indeed and in particular the drummer!
Nobody plays complex guitar riffs and solos while singing at the same time quite like Frank...simply mind boggling and criminally underrated.
except late Johnny Winter
His voice is amazingly powerful and clear! He plays and sings at the same time and makes it sound so effortless.
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸Master of the shred 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I was just going to say his vocals are strong!!
Singing and playing is not hard 🤪
@@theothertroll Neither is your weenie..
Playing this on my FM radio show tomorrow afternoon! Will ALWAYS play Frank's music. Interviewed him last year and he's the nicest guy. People may wonder why his name and music are not as "popular" or well-known as some others who aren't nearly as talented. Why? Mostly by CHOICE. He basically said the music "business" wasn't for him and that was that. RESPECT.
Absolutely the most underrated guitarist ever- and in my opinion is one of the greatest rock guitarists ever. His music never gets old, his style is always on the mark. Love ya, Frank ! Been listenin' to ya for over 40 years now......
Believe me, phrasing like that and singing at the same time its the hardest thing in this world! Its like your brain needs to be completely separated from your hands! simply AMAZING!
without a doubt, he so much more than just another great guitarist. And he really is a great guitarist while being so much more.
Frank was under rated. He is right up there with all the greats.
Totally agree! He blows my mind. When you come back and listen to Frank 40 years later he's still as amazing as ever. Awesome!
Im 76 and have been playing since i was 11 ,i can sing and play but my playing suffers badly where i cant keep time, its much harder than playing 2 instruments at once.
It varies from song to song. Some are fiendishly difficult, others easy. It is a matter of many years of playing and singing. Sometimes you just need to put the playing on auto-play.
I just saw an old Johnny Winter video in which the Bass Player played pretty decent harmonica while really pumping out the bass. His playing became simpler when he blew that harp, but man was he good at both at the same time. Never before have I seen that.
Can you believe he is not in Hall of Fame that's criminal what he's done for music an influence thousands of guitar players
one of the greatest Canadian talents!!!
Just an amazing talent. Some people are just born with "it"... He is "it".
First saw Frank in 1971 been a fan ever since. Amazing player and innovator.🎶
After 60 years, he still sounds like Frank Marino!
The planet needs this guy on a the road touring right now.
Frank is an unsung hero. Witnessed in '76.
FM/MR was a staple in my album collection back in the 70s. What a great talent is this man.
Frank Marino is one of the best technical guitar players I ever heard.
The feeeeeeling in "young man" solo :-)
Damn what an amazing player! No tapping, no unconventional tricks, just straight up talent and feeling. I was supposed to see him live in September, got my will call order confirmation and everything. Ordered the tickets from Rams Head Annapolis,
MD. on June 21st. Found out two days ago Frank had retired from music! Debilitating medical condition. God bless him and his family. I was fortunate enough to witness his magic three times over the years. He always delivered, never disappointed.
I've been listening to Frank since the 70's! He still rocks!
I've known of Frank for many years, and he is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. Better than most.
Still amazes me that Frank Marino isn’t better appreciated as the fantastic guitar player he is
His choice, he never wanted to get huge in the biz.
And he is great people that know about him are very lucky.
Frank Marino is the epitome of humble I have seen some of his interviews what a phenomenal musician but even more he's a beautiful man I was amazed by his playing but I was more amazed about how he is a true honest down-to-earth human being not arrogant I pray you get well Mr. Marino God bless you and thank you for all the music you made me pick up a guitar and you made me put it down a few times lol
Been listening to Frank since the early 70's and this guy could and still can "smoke" most of the best guitarist over the decades. Scary good!!!
This was his last live before his illness.
You have just witnessed again over and over the greatest guitar player on this planet🤩
Great 🎸🎵🎼🎶😎👊
The Greatest! Frank's music is Deep and Inspirational.
Well, if not the greatest, another skull on the Mt Rushmore
He is killer!! I'm 59 and I have been rocking with him from the 1977 or so!!
Plays any style well including some pretty good tapping
Very sorry to hear you will not be performing live anymore. I thank you for influencing my taste of music and inspiring me to play drums! God bless you and your family brother Frank.
The most beautiful guitar tone I've ever heard. A master of his craft THROUGHOUT!!!!!
FM never got the recognition he deserved..a great player with some quality songs..
Quality in music has always been recognized by a few. The mass never digs that deep.
I feel this guys talent exceeded anyone's even Hendrix. 3 single coils on a SG brilliant. Frank foreseen the emoji just look at the album art on strange universe. 👑🎸🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
No one exceeds Hendrix in my opinion. But Frank is way up there on a level possibly exceeding SRV, Robin Trower, Clapton, Carlos Santana and a few others that are more well known than him. No disrespect to anyone mentioned.
Frank just flat out owns this song. The tone is perfect and his voice never sounded better. And the solo................yea!!
Love it! Frank is criminally underrated!! Been a fan for almost 35 years!
God damn he is so good. I am so fortunate to have seen him on several times throughout the 70s before I moved out of Michigan. He toured a lot back east. After I moved out west I kind of lost touch for a while of his music. Seeing these live at the agora shows are incredible! It’s talent didn’t get the deserving accolades that he should’ve. He’s one of the greatest guitarist that I’ve ever lived. Also one of the best live shows you could ever see. Thank you Frank we miss you buddy and I hope you’re healing up well
With a heavy heart I watch the phenomenal musician I have had in my TOP 5 for the past 45 YEARS. Was blessed enough to meet and talk with him for a time . His musical talent is only a fraction of the man . Yesterday news has been difficult to accept. He and his family are in my thoughts as he starts a new journey.
Broke my heart was ready to go see him it's been about ten years. I was lucky to see him open for KANSAS at MSG NYC in 1978 it was my first concert not bad .remember seeing the CALIFORNIA JAM he is one of the great one's. Take care my friend. ROCK ON
Me too, I had Backstage pass & Shook this guitar Legends hand.
Best way to practice it is in a full mirror..it allows your eyes to see your hands..it's a visual cue...if you sing at the same time..it keeps the two connected ..because your brain is no longer searching for the visual cue...like the old video games...you knew bald
bull was gonna throw a punch because his eyes turned red..like telegraphing kinda..only in this case..its right in front of you.it stops the fight between both sides of your brain as the cue is constantly visible..TRY IT!...it works...it removes the non verbal wall keeping both sides of your brain from working together instead of fighting each other... It usually becomes more or less seamless after a month or two...try humming the lyrics first.... Just try it...all of a sudden..you'll see...you will quit turning your head trying to see what your hand is doing..as the other side of your brain will store the visual cues...then it just becomes automatic.. WITHOUT having the mirror..pro tip from planetp_4u2c

David Goode killin it on the drums 💯
I am grinning like The Cheshire Cat here at Frank’s seemingly easy tour de force. How to make something that SOOOO isn’t easy…look easy. Maaaaan, that talent!
Saw him at Hammersmith, London, in 1983. Was fortunate to meet him at the soundcheck and he was a total gent. Saw him again at BB King's club in New York in 2010 and he was awesome once again. A true legend.
Just had to make a comment about probably the greatest rock guitar players in the history of rock ! He has just retired due to health issues and I hope he can live a good life bein retired ..thank you frank marino for the wonderful music u created thru the yrs.. you Will always be the greatest guitar player in rock.music today ..as Joe bonemassa has said ...i wouldn't have a career if it weren't for frank marino..! Saw him in concert 4 times. First time in Winterland , opening for Black Sabbath, (Ozzy was still in the band). Frank totally blew them away that night! And I am a hardcore Sabbath fan. Hoping for a full recovery, Mr. Frank Marino.
So cool to see this live!
Not to worry, he's one of the best lots of people haven't heard of, a real shame.
I’m standing inside a silver room
A sound inside my head like a sonic boom
A preacher with a dagger purple and black
Is tearing sacred pictures
On my naked back
Hey preacher, and he smiles in return
I think you wanna see me burn
You’re squeezing out my blood
Please tell me why
But he proceeded to break down and cry
Oh does anyone know the answer
Tell me Lord, does anyone know the answer
I’m floating beyond a cosmic dream
A feeling in my throat makes me wanna scream
A lover who has no love to spare
Is ripping out the roots of my leather hair
Hey lover, and she made a drunken face
Well put yourself in my place
Please tell me why you wanna see me hurt at all
But she proceeded to break down and bawl
Oh please does someone know the answer
Oh does anybody know the answer
Well I’m old
I’m tired and cold
I’m dripping like a rainy day
I’m searching for a being who’s seen what I’ve seen
And I know I’ll find him someday
I know I’ll find him someday
I know I’ll find him someday
I think he’s talkin about how bad man is and that he’s still searching for God and his goodness. He’s holdin out faith that one day he’ll see him!

At last ; ) Salute you from Denmark Frank. And Thank you for you music : )
Fortunate enough to have seen him live 2 times. Early 80's in Corpus Christi, Tx and again in San Antonio, Tx some 15 to 17 years back. Both times he was in complete control with his wizardry. Absolute beast mode!!
I've heard this show was Frank's last.
Why are you so underrated Frank? Why? I know. Everybody is scared of you.
Your brain is scared of learning & discovering what is really out there.
Thank you for the years of great music....nothing can ever take that away. It will echo on for generations.

39 years ago I saw Frank and Mahogany Rush in Stockholm SWeden, and to this day it is the best consert I have seen. Love you Frank!
Thanks Frank, for always giving us more than the price of admission! The legend. Respect.
I was fortunate to be in a band named Mammoth in Chicago in the 80's. On two different occasions we were Franks' opening act-once at Club Dimensions in Calumet City and once at the Colony Theater in Chicago. I was a fan since the first live album and he was one of my main guitar influences, so it was very special to watch him from backstage! Awesome musician, even nicer guy. Rock on Frank!
I was at that Colony
Theater show! Still have the ticket stub, Nov 19th "the year is cut off?! They were filming that show, wonder what happened to that film?
@@TheTCIMAN Can you post a copy of the ticket? Does it list Mammoth as well as Montrose and Frank?
@@jimtieri7569 I tried but could not find how to post a photo on youtube! But the only name on the tickets were Frank! I have two different shows at the Colony for Frank. One is Sat. Jun. 14th 1986 and the other says Sat Nov.19th with the date cut off! Wonder what year that was? I also found another FM show that was from the Park West Thur. Mar. 3rd 1983! I do remember Ronnie Montrose though! He played a guitar that looked like a shotgun! He was loud!! All FM shows were awesome!
I was at both, me and Mike Boren, you guys rocked before Montrose,,i got pics from the orchestra pit at the colony, thanks to lightshow Loui..
I remember when FM owned CalJam II
Lots of people were standing there gobsmacked when he started his set.

Most underrated
I had the privilege of seeing this guy several times in the 1970's when I was still in high school, his guitar work was on another level, it filled the arena and his voice was powerful, I loved his version of All Along the Watchtower, it was amazing and this song ? awesome, dont forget Dragonfly, oh man, brings me back to those days
One of Canada's Premiere guitarists in all of Rock this man was on another level, I mean just singing this and playing those chords takes major effort God Bless ya Frank!
My cousin had a 1000 watt system ( Yamaha Mixing board ) with two BIG 26" stage speakers . We sat the speakers behind his house ( in the middle of 80 acres ) and BLASTED Frank Marino's Mahogany Rush LIVE ! IT WAS AWESOME !!
Now that’s the kind of listening experience that gets my attention! When’s the next house party? I’ll bring the liquor and a few friends. Oh wait. Is the house still there? Check the liner notes on the back of that live album. I was at,”The Wharehouse “ when, and where part of it was recorded in 78. He burned the place down! There’s now a marker where the building used to be.
Astounding now and back in the 70's and pure Magic

This is one of the best you can get ... completely underrated ... this is not an easy one but with so much drive and pleasure ... a Gibson SG on some special single coil pickups ... saw him in Germany in the 80 s with his brother Vince ... loud, so loud that the crowd behind disappeared ... front row .. thanks for the tinnitus ...
Go get em Frank. Been a fan since the seventies.
I saw Mahogany Rush live several times. A highlight was when Frank Marino came out to the parking lot after the concert and worked on my Volkswagon Rabbit!
@@FURDOG1961 No, but he worked on it for a couple of hours and diagnosed the problem as a clogged injector. The car had broken down as I pulled into the parking lot of the hotel we were staying at. I was with a group of people who were working on an archeological dig out in nowhere in eastern Ky. Someone on the crew new the Frank's light man and we got back stage passes.
Frank had his roadies, who were driving to the next show, drive us back to where we were working, which was about an hour away.
One of the roadies told me that the only reason Frank played rock and roll was to finance his drag racing hobby. Turns out he was an excellent mechanic, he just didn't have a fuel injector with him.
That is one stratty sounding SG.
You're absolutely right ! he mentionned having strat pickups in an interview ua-cam.com/video/1xri8O2UhfE/v-deo.html
Are you kidding me? I thought I was listening to 1977 Frank. He hasn't changed a bit. Excellent!
Thank you for posting this what a joy to watch this as a guitar player myself I followed Frank Marino for years never got to see a live concert this is the closest I'm going to get but when he blows into that guitar solo my hair stood up on a back of my neck keep rocking Frank God bless..
Never heard of this guy till about a month ago 😔. To me if I close my eyes and listen, He sounds a lot like Robin Trower. Win win if you ask me
Played so cleanly...Frank just got better and better over the years. A real treasure, and this song is so cool, from the riff to the bass line. Oh - and love the eyebrow raise by the bass player at 4:53... Quite possibly one of my favorite songs ever. Thanks for all the inspiration, Frank.. You also encouraged me to buy my first Gibson SG way back in 1976!
He's what... 70 and some years... and still loaded to the brim with energy...! Very impressive...!
Haven't listened to him in years. Brilliant talent!!!

He is truly one of "the higher gods" !!
Now, there is a guitarist of the highest order!
It takes me back to all those times jamming with my late cousin and best friend Joe Zurzola, whenever I listen to Frank.
Out of all my friends of 40 plus years, I thought I was the only one who knew of Frank's Genius.
They still don't know.
Nor have they heard the answer...
