I was there, so it was cool hearing the commentary for this game for the first time. I charged the field after the game at 2:43:02 but I get why fans charged before it was over. Some told me they would have been trampled if they hadn't after the Crabby catch. For all the great offensive plays Tech did, what won it was their defense and Ruffin McNeil. This at a time when the Big 12 was a beast, not like today.
This should not be labeled an "upset." Before the 2008 season began, Tech was seen as a contender for the Big 12 South title - Mike Leach, Graham Harrell, and Michael Crabtree made the cover of "Dave Campbell's Texas Football - while rebuilding UT was the team that could go either way. After the Horns played a soft early schedule, their victory over number one Oklahoma propelled them to number one. Even a number one-ranked team can be overrated.
That Texas team was not overrated as it had numerous future NFL Draft picks.. they should have played for the Big 12 Championship and subsequently the national championship if it wasn’t for Gideon dropping a gimme interception or the BCS screw job
Best game ever!!!! Harrell to crabtree. They sure surprised texas. Even if u r not a tech fan u still have to respect the fight in both of these teams. It was a hard fought battle til the end
Being able to watch this fantastic game was my redemption for missing Magic Kingdom day, while on vacation with my family, on account of food poisoning. haha.
I was a huge texas fan back then and this KILLED me lol how they couldn’t just get him out of bounds…Thomas (#12) didn’t even go for the push…the dropped interception…drove me insane 🤦♂️huge win for tech they absolutely deserved it 😮💨
@@mikecaprock9684 Watching on TV with my kids. Yes we believed. Looking back, I should have been really scared on that dropped interception. I wasn't ❤️ I knew we/Tech was going to win. I told my kids we were going to win because 'We had plenty of time to score' ( like 20 seconds 👀 ) I cannot believe our confidence level back then. I was not alone. Mack Brown said the only thing they did wrong was score too fast.
So much has changed since then. Mike Leach (Texas Tech head coach): Washington State head coach Mack Brown (Texas head coach): UNC head coach Will Muschamp (Texas DC): South Carolina head coach Graham Harrell (Texas Tech QB): USC offensive coordinator Ruffin McNeill (Texas Tech DC): Oklahoma LB coach Donald Trump (entrepreneur): President of the United States
just imagine being a student at texas tech that year and being able to storm the field. the biggest win for texas tech in recent history. That would have been so much fun!
i remember watching this with our team in a hotel before our pop warner game the next day, we were playing the undefeated number 1 team in our league. The next day we won the game 20-0. This is a game i will never forget.
It's sad that college football of 5-10 years ago is so much more fun to watch than today's weak NFL. When you think about the average plays that would be flagged now, it just isn't what it should be.
only on the right side of the field..... sherman doesnt play the left,.. and last year, in one of their two regular season meetings, crabtree had 150 yards...right on sherman.
***** Im not doubting that, n yea, you got me on the 88, i got it confused with the 175 he put on the cards a week later in 2012. that being said, I am not the biggest fan of crabtree, but sherman hasn't been on him in most of their games. The 9ers for a few years now have matched boldin against sherman in the right side and split crabtree to the left. maxwell has done a good job locking him down there. I am not a fan of crabtree,.. but am I die hard 9er fan. Team before players ect.
First and only time I punched a wall after a football game was this one. One year later I was in Pasadena as I watched Colt McCoy go down. I didn't have any walls to punch then. I just felt sad sad sad. Those teams that we had in 2008 and 2009 were so amazing. That's the funny thing about football, it takes more than being amazing to be the best, you've still gotta survive the crazy changes of fortune that can happen out of nowhere.
Everyone always says that about the Gideon play. Nobody ever seems to notice that Ed Britton dropped the ball first into Gideon's hands. The ball hits Britton right in the hands first.
As a Tech fan and alumnus this game was historic but as far as the best college football game of all time or at least of my time it’s got to be Texas/USC Rose Bowl/National Championship. Only USC could get me to be a Texas fan for a few hours.
Everyone knows about the Harrell to Crabtree game winning back shoulder on the sideline but at 12:35 mark of the first quarter they run the same play for a key first down going South. Texas holds TT to a fg. and an early 5-0 TT lead.
I think people forget how much better Texas tech was that night. Texas had alot of breaks to clib back into that game, similar to the Oklahoma game that year as well
As a IT fan this loss sucks but I have alot of respect for tech they played hard and fought. But I feel like everyone forgot that they were actually ranked in the top 10 at that time

Not a red raider fan, but what Craig and Adam James did to mike leach and TTU is inexcusable and disgusting. I hope Adam does us all a favor and doesn't marry so the James bloodline won't multiply like a fungus.
the james hooligans are disgraceful. worst tech people ever
yayrwe
They got Coach Leach Fired for controversial reasons don't know details all I know Craig James had some connections or something he was an Analyst at the time I think
Long story short Leach got fired and Texas tech hasn't been the same since
Leach is doing fine at Washington State turned that program around
Fungus? Bruv, its a game lol
@@JDFrank20Diaz it was due to a concussion where as leach put Adams in an dark electrical room for 3 hours claiming he was a prisoner there etc I looked it up it was stupid long story short Craig's career was killed is now a good fearing man
@@chriskusek9494 oh yeah that was Cruel and it's costs leach his job and then years ago at Maryland A Player Dies if Heatstroke and what was the outcome for the coach and the university cause I forgot
I know this was posted years ago. And I watched this live years ago. It was the best game I've ever watched. Not just as a fan, but someone who loves football. Texas tech has always played fun games. Love these guys to death. Wish Mike leach was still there. He is a living legend
Same here I remember this day from the Early pre game on ESPN to the Game itself this game is my favorite if all time this is what Prime time football is all about Texas Tech is a fun team I also wished Leach was back
@@JDFrank20Diaz yeah he's thought abt going back to Texas tech, but tech still owes him 800gs from when he was fired for no reason. One of the weenie baby players got a concussion and his dad was part of the texas tech board, and the kid told his dad that leach locked him in a dark closet. Which of course didn't happen
@@ryleetaylor2855 That weenie baby was actually Craig James's son. Look up Craig James. SMU/DeathPenalty/ESPN - kind of hurt Texas Tech for years. Big-O-Mess
Curse was broken against Miss STATE/Leach in 2021. #wreckem Texas Tech!!
I’m right there with you, best game I’ve ever watched
What a time in Lubbock with Coach Leach and Coach Knight.
This was a crazy fucking game
man im a die hard raider the Crabtree play is by far my most favorite play in NCAA history
greatest game in the history of the world. actually greatest day in the history of the world
WORD!
Exactly three weeks later came the worst day in the history of the world. (OU 65, Tech 21.)
OscarBravoUSA holy cow was that a horrible day
discostu004 Hasn't happened since 2008.....
*cough cough TCU 14, cough cough*
This game was GREAT! my favorite Halloween memory
It was an upset, although the expectation was that this would be a competitive game.
That Texas team was not overrated as it had numerous future NFL Draft picks.. they should have played for the Big 12 Championship and subsequently the national championship if it wasn’t for Gideon dropping a gimme interception or the BCS screw job
This game will forever live in infamy! Wreck 'Em Tech!!
antoniobolgnameyerwe Yet the "almighty" Texas loses to a feeder team aka Kansas
Favorite game I've ever been to. Now we suck..
As a tech fan the Crabtree catch is so historic for this rivalry
Best game ever!!!! Harrell to crabtree. They sure surprised texas. Even if u r not a tech fan u still have to respect the fight in both of these teams. It was a hard fought battle til the end
Being able to watch this fantastic game was my redemption for missing Magic Kingdom day, while on vacation with my family, on account of food poisoning. haha.
Who else watched this live?...nearly gave me a heart attack until Tech took it back at the end.
I was a huge texas fan back then and this KILLED me lol how they couldn’t just get him out of bounds…Thomas (#12) didn’t even go for the push…the dropped interception…drove me insane 🤦♂️huge win for tech they absolutely deserved it 😮💨
I was there. Screaming and cheering all the way. My confidence never wavered. I knew We/Tech was going to win. We all believed. And so it was.
Mike Leach (Texas Tech head coach): Washington State head coach
Mack Brown (Texas head coach): UNC head coach
Will Muschamp (Texas DC): South Carolina head coach
Graham Harrell (Texas Tech QB): USC offensive coordinator
Ruffin McNeill (Texas Tech DC): Oklahoma LB coach
Donald Trump (entrepreneur): President of the United States
What has changed now...
Mike Leach: Dead
Donald Trump: No longer president
Mike Leaches' finest moment!! CBZ
@Jackson Brewer about that...
Man this happened 14 years ago man how time flies.
just imagine being a student at texas tech that year and being able to storm the field. the biggest win for texas tech in recent history. That would have been so much fun!
It's sickening that greed is ruining rivalries such as this.
I was at this game. Best 7 seconds of my life.
ill never forget watching that catch live
i remember watching this with our team in a hotel before our pop warner game the next day, we were playing the undefeated number 1 team in our league. The next day we won the game 20-0. This is a game i will never forget.
It's sad that college football of 5-10 years ago is so much more fun to watch than today's weak NFL. When you think about the average plays that would be flagged now, it just isn't what it should be.
Best game in college ever was 2005- 2006 USC vs TEXAS national championship back and forth unbelievable game
One of the greatest college games ever.
I remember sitting in a bar, watching this game and putting my head down out of anxiety in the final seconds. What an ending.
"no one can man up on crab" ......... Sherman would say otherwise...
only on the right side of the field..... sherman doesnt play the left,.. and last year, in one of their two regular season meetings, crabtree had 150 yards...right on sherman.
This is for you Pirate and may you rest in peace.
Craig Curry fumbling a punt late in the 84 Cotton Bowl and the last play of this game were the most heartbreaking sports moments of my life
any tech fans here in 2020🔴⚫️👆🏼
The game that made coach Leach a legend. Reast in Peace Coach Leach. You will never be forgotten.
12:05 Harrell to Crabtree back shoulder fade.
IDENTICAL to the play that won the game. Even the defender was in the same position.
Everyone always says that about the Gideon play. Nobody ever seems to notice that Ed Britton dropped the ball first into Gideon's hands. The ball hits Britton right in the hands first.
Probably the greatest football game I've ever seen!!
Texas had alot of breaks to clib back into that game, similar to the Oklahoma game that year as well
Gideon dropped INT literally cost Texas the National Championship match..
They would have lost to Florida anyway though. But i would have loved to see Texas win this game.
Shit happens
As much as I would've loved to see Florida and Tebow vs. Texas and McCoy, no way Florida loses. Team of destiny that year after Ole Miss.
1 of he greatest games of all time no matter who u routed 4 should of enjoyed it
Now THIS is what college football is all about!
As a IT fan this loss sucks but I have alot of respect for tech they played hard and fought. But I feel like everyone forgot that they were actually ranked in the top 10 at that time
I'm still coming back to this video years later
Best birthday present ever! And Tech's treatment of Leach is why they will never see a dime from this alumni.
R.I.P, Based Pirate Coach.
R.I.P., Mike Leach. This was certainly one of your greatest moments.
2:33:12 for the game winner.
The best football game I've ever seen!
That one damn play plus a dropped interception cost Texas a shot at playing for a National Title.
This game is what made Texas Tech relevant to me. Lol.
RIP Coach Leach
I remember when I was seven watching this game when Michael Crabtree scored I just remember my parents going insane. Good memories
