    I was prediabetic prior to using it. Now I'm in a good range and hope to be off the meds within a year. The one thing it did for me was to kickstart weight management and now I work out again and am healthier than I've been in a long time.

      If you can use such a drug as a temporary BRIDGE to get healthier, and then get off it, and don't have significant side effect issues, that's GREAT. Congrats, and I hope that works out well for you. I was lucky and caught my blood sugar before I became pre-diabetic. NOT wanting the needles, expense, hassle, risk, etc, with any diabetes, I jumped right in and fixed it right away re lifestyle, and my numbers rapidly normalized.

      I was taking Rybelsus and started getting really sick. I was constantly throwing up. I finally went to the ER one morning and they kept me for 3 days. I was still taking the medication. Because I didn't know what was wrong with me. I now go to a GI doctor and he believes I have gastroparesis from taking it. I would not go back on it ever. I understand if you're obese and this is an option for you. And Im talking about weight close to 300 lbs. that seriously need it. But there are a lot of people that I know personally taking this drug to lose weight because they don't want to do it the old fashioned way. They literally have to lose 20 lbs. Something that can be done naturally.
    Yet here I am with weight that i gained due to being on Lexapro and the loss of my mother losing the weight naturally. Im not even as big as I used to be. I was at one point almost 300 lbs. myself. All i can say is weight loss is a journey of the mind and body. If you don't do it with the right intentions you will resort to rollercoaster dieting. Doctors should send people to nutritionists and therapists before they give someone a weight loss drug.

      @@MIMI12899For anyone that is taking this medication that isn't also diabetic, this shouldn't be the case. It should be used as a temporary tool to allow people to develop the proper habits and knowledge so that they can maintain the weighloss afterwards. A significant portion of the weight lost on this medication is lean muscle mass and that isn't good you either, there is also a potential risk of malnutrition since some individuals experience such severe appetite reduction that they actually feel nauseous just thinkg about eating.

    Its been wonderful for me. 56lbs down and never felt better. If it causes some people bad side effects then they have the option to stop taking it. It’s that simple. EVERY medication comes with negative side effects and everyones body reacts to medications differently. Just because some people can’t handle taking this medication doesn’t mean that the people who can handle it shouldn’t be able to acces it without people always bringing up the side effects which more than likely they already know about.

    • @bluewrites2278
      @bluewrites2278 6 місяців тому

      @@teetee19768it is different, as questionable and off-label prescribing practices along with celebrity endorsement and people who have less than 25lbs to loose looking for a short cut have caused a worldwide shortage of this medication. Now diabetics cannot access their diabetes management medication which puts them at increased risk of preventable complications.
      There are non-diabetics who can absolutely benefit from this medication but it really shouldn't be a first stop. There are alternative methods and medications for weightloss that should be tried first.
      The exceptions being someone who is severely obese with significant mobility issues or individuals with an already diagnosed pre-existing condition that significantly impairs their ability to losses weight, such as PCOS or thyroid conditions.
      I also believe that any prescription of this medication for weightloss should also require a mandatory oversight of a registered dietician for at minimum monthly consultations for the first 3 months of the prescription. This will not ensure that the loss of lean muscle mass is prevented (as this can be a significant portion of the total weightloss seen on this medication), to mitigate the risk of malnutrition, particularly if this medication is going to be used long-term and to provide the tools and knowledge for the patient to begin repairing their relationship with food and maintain the weightloss after coming off the medication.

For me for instance I would only eat once a day so it slowed down my metabolism and I also have issues with metabolic syndrome. And I gained my most weight after I had my tubes tied after my last child. I actually weighed less than when I started pregnancy at the end. I was 15lbs lighter after birth but as soon as I got my tubes tide 6 months later the weight started pouring on which then lead to other issued. Eating is not always the problem just an fyi

      Its an interesting question, but I think it does come down to the individual honestly. My mother and I both were prescribed the medicine. She needs to lose, but not as much as me, however she also was categorized as pre-diabetic. I have PCOS and insulin resistance and need to lose far more weight. Neither of us had nausea, but she went off after about a month because of terrible heartburn. I really don't have much in the way of side effects at all, and it is working. I feel a little "off" is the best way to put it the day after my dose and I tend to be a little more tired. Nothing I'm experiencing is very intense and certainly not a dealbreaker.
