  • Vlog 83-Travels In My Chair. I was on Ozempic for my type 2 Diabetes for a year. I lost weight but after a year, I had enough. Today I'll talk about what it has been like for the 6+ months that I have been off it.

I was on Ozempic for about 6-7 months, my prescription price was $225 per month. I live in Ontario, Canada. I thought that was crazy expensive until hearing in the United States some people are being charged a thousand dollars per month. 😮 I know this medication isn’t for everyone and the side effects differ from person to person but for me I was very pleased with the outcome!! I did have a few side effects at first which only lasted a 3-4 weeks, one was losing my appetite and having to force myself to eat at the beginning plus I was also constipated in the beginning probably because I wasn’t eating much. My appetite slowly came back but until it did I bought these boost JUICE boxes, NOT the meal replacement milky ones, yuck, they have ones that taste like a kids juice box ! It helped keep my energy level up until I slowly got my appetite back !! the crazy thing is once I got it back I craved healthier foods !! I added foods high in fibre as well which helped with the constipation. In the first month I lost around 20 pounds, probably mostly water weight ! In around 7-8 months I lost a total of 60-65 pounds, I think I’m now the perfect weight for my size 115-117 pounds 5’ 1 “ small frame. I can say I now feel better than I have in years !! My arthritis pain is GONE, my knee pain and back pain also way less !! After so many years of trying so many different diets and failing on all of them Ozempic worked for me!! I now think twice before I eat anything unhealthy !!! I DONT want to go back to where my body hurts everyday, the way it did before I took the weight off !! Im now pain free and want to stay that way!! Good luck to everyone on or is thinking about going on Ozempic and I truly hope it works for you !!

I am on Ozempic now and the side effects are minimal. It has helped me control my calories by reducing my appetite. I have no problem eating healthy as I just don’t crave junk. My fear is when I hit my goal, my
uncontrollable hunger will return! It has been hard my whole life, constantly feeling hungry. When I started Ozempic I thought “how nice to feel normal, not constantly hungry!” How did going off affect your hunger levels?

Jackie, it has been almost two years since I have been off Ozempic and here's what has been happening. My weight is pretty much stable. I fluctuate by 5 pounds either way only. I still can't eat sugary desserts, spicy foods and actually, a lot of the foods that bothered my while I was on Ozempic, still bother me. So, if you are lucky, you will be o.k. eating wise. Just eat a small amount and stop when you feel full. I have been finding that a spinach, berry smoothie with protein powder really helps me in the afternoon and followed later with nuts as a snack. I'm actually surprised I can't eat the sugary stuff and chocolate that I enjoyed before. I have always been a sugaraholic. I still have a weakness for candies, though and have to be careful not to indulge. We all have our demons. Stay well!

My mind refused me to eat certain foods that were healthy and bad. I continued to have severe abdominal issues. I then checked a site which reported hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against ozempic from October of 2023 thru current. Please look under lawsuits filed. It can cause permanent affects. I immediately got off. It takes 6 weeks to get out of your system. It harms your body and in some cases permanently. God bless you!! Be safe.

I have spent years studying homeopathic and natural remedies. Diabetes is a whole different beast that is very difficult to control even with diet. Especially when one is insulin resistant. Not to mention neuropathy in his feet which make exercise very limited. My husband only eats 2 meals a day one being organic egg whites for breakfast and black coffee. @@travelsinmychair4140 I have listened to a few videos on this medication. What I have found is the side effects are miserable. One being sever gastrointestinal and causing the stomach to be paralyzed and unable to process food properly.! A lot of lawsuits out there over this drug. My husband was only on it for 3 mo. before the price went up too much for him to be able to afford it. Okay, so you say you took the drug until your diabetes was under control. I heard a few videos say once your on it your on it for life? And for those who went off it and lost weight they gained back the weight in time. It would be wonderful if this drug was able to get one's sugar under control and then once you were able to go off of it you didn't need medication anymore as long as you ate right and exercised. But from what I have heard and read on it that is not how it works. How long have you had diabetes? My husband found out he had it about 8 yrs ago.

Thank you for sharing your story and hopefully it helps others with making a big decision. I was on Ozempic twice, first time just over 5 years ago and then had surgery for breast cancer and went off the drug. I was 57 yrs old at that time and now 62. Having had cancer made me realize how vital it was to take charge of my health and I went keto and lost a lot of weight. Then covid hit and got out of a marriage that wasn’t working, retired and a few other big life changes and then with the stress, the weight came back to more than pre cancer. I went back on Ozempic at the cost of $500 a month out of pocket. Weight was not dropping but side effects were challenging with low energy, constant headaches and just feeling rough. After 4 or 5 months, I gave it up due to little weight loss and side effects and the tremendous cost. Almost 2 months ago I started a carnivore diet which I now consider my lifestyle forever. I feel amazing and lost inflammation after only 2 days and have been great since and I am slowly losing weight which I feel is the best way to go. I am down 13lbs in 7 weeks. I encourage those who want to take control of their life to consider and research keto or carnivore diets. Wishing the best for everyone! ❤️

I'm 73 and have been on Wegovy (same medicine as Ozempic) for almost a year and have lost 35 pounds, from 170 to 135. I had a lot of side effects, and I would have to say it was a bit rough. I had no energy, diarrhea, gas, and a burning sensation on the skin of my back and legs. I was uncomfortable for the entire time. I've been off Wegovy now for a month, and the side effects have nearly all resolved. My weight seems stable, but I think about food more often, and that worries me, so I've decided I want to taper it down instead of just stopping cold turkey. I'm going to get a compound semaglutide, which is $400/month for four injections and is the same medication that is in Wegovy and Ozempic, and I will take one injection every two or three weeks and then go down to one injection a month. This is the plan, and I'll let you know how it works.

I was on it for 2 months. No matter what I did I could not lose weight. I ate healthy and counted all of my calories and worked out 5 days a week. I literally did not lose a single pound in almost 6 months. With semiglutide I lost 20 pounds and it changed my eating habits drastically. I used to overeat even though I cooked and made healthy food. I always ate seconds and I ate a lot late at night. So I’m grateful for that. I stopped taking it because of side effects and the serious risks of cancer and pancreatitis. I had severe fatigue and lots of burping and occasional heartburn. I’ve been off it about 2 months and kept it off so far. My appetite hasn’t come back but I do eat just not as much as I used to. I still have a lot of burping and I get bad stomachaches sometimes.
You have to weigh out the risks for yourself. I’m grateful I finally got the weight off and I’ll continue to eat healthy and exercise. I’m on the fence about whether I’d take it because of the side effects. I’m hoping the side effects will stop eventually. All drugs have side effects. You have to do your research and make informed decisions.

Diabetes II. Lost over 100lbs. However, radical change of diet. In two years, just one takeaway, no ready meals, no fried food. Stick with a simple diet - one egg vegetable omelette for breakfast, piece of fruit for lunch, 100g protein with cherry tomatoes, baby beets, one tablespoon five or couscous for dinner, and one small slice soda or wholemeal bread with 0.5ozs cheese. Importantly, the constant screaming for food has stopped .... And that is because this drug replaces missing saiety hormones that about 4% of obese patients suffer from.
    Diabetes II in full remission.
As a medical Biochemist, can I just say that many of the drugs used to treat cancer, cause radical change in taste.

I am type 2 diabetic and was placed on Ozempic not only to lower my A1C and daily blood sugars but to aid in weight loss as I am obese. The first evening I took a shot, I was awakened at 4 am and threw up. I am the type of person that will do anything not to throw up! Heaven knows, I could never be bulimic! Thus began my horrible journey on Ozempic. Yes, it much improved my A1C and I lost 30 pounds but at the expense of being frightened to leave my home as I could throw up without any notice. I was terribly nauseous all the time and was vomiting around 4 times a week. While my total time on the drug was 4-5 months, it felt like an eternity of torture. I finally decided my quality of life was worth more than daily torture. I have been off Ozempic for nearly 6 months now, and have kept the weight off and my blood sugars are under control with an additional oral medication. My heart goes out to you for struggling with multiple health issues and compounded by Ozempic, must have been awful. I wish you continued healing and safe travels.

I am a 73 yr old woman. I’m not diabetic. I went on Ozempic for 4 months. I lost 25 lbs . The side effects weren’t too bad. But after I stopped I noticed my face deflating. My arms got as wrinkly as prunes, and I’ve gained back about 8 lbs. in a yr. I only eat b’fast and a late lunch. But I do have a small dessert in the evening…. I want my smooth firms back! I want my cheeks and fewer wrinkles on my face. I hear eating more “clean” protein can help, like Turkey. It has less fat. Also need to exercise. It’s just hard….overweight and smooth or thin and wrinkles..😳

after awhile, you might "fit" into your skin again. After I stopped taking Ozempic, I looked hollow cheeked and saggy from the 20 pound weight loss. Just think if you were one of those who lost 50+ pounds. Anyway, after almost a year, I noticed my cheeks filling out again and the wrinkles were less noticeable. Hopefully you'll zap back into shape soon, too.

Thank you for your story and for being so honest and vulnerable. I looked into Ozempic and several different weight loss drugs, and discussed them with my Dr. I was shocked at how quickly the Dr was in offering weight loss drugs with little discussion on side effects , nutrition, how to come off without gaining weight, etc. Ultimately, I decided the drugs were not the right choice for me, and embarked on a journey to clean up my lifestyle and eating habits. One thing you touched on was how your eating habits were different on and off of Ozempic. I think that is one of the things people don't really focus on--without changing your lifestyle and creating healthy eating habits, the positive effects of Ozempic will likely end when you stop taking it. I agree that it can be a great tool in weight loss, but you still have to do the work and learn how to eat healthy to avoid some of the side effects and to eventually be able to get off of the drugs without gaining weight. There are so many ads and stories pushing it as a magic bullet, and it's just not that simple. I just encourage anyone considering Ozempic or any other weight loss drug to really do your research about how it works, the pros and cons, and make your decision based on those facts. Wishing you the best, and wishing positive results to anyone on a weight loss journey, regardless of what method they choose!

My dr prescribed Ozempic for my T2D. I picked it up on Monday, and haven’t taken a dose yet. Haven’t even broken the seal yet. I’ve been doing my research which led me to this video, and I don’t think I’m going to take it. I have Crohn’s and Hashimoto’s along with the diabetes, and I was concerned about how the Ozempic would affect those disease processes. My dr didn’t seem to take my concerns seriously, and she only said as long as I’ve nvr had thyroid cancer in my family, everything should be fine. That being said, all my research is showing me that taking it would probably be very detrimental since I have multiple disease processes happening.

    • @travelsinmychair4140
      @travelsinmychair4140  4 місяці тому +1

I get the concerns, Lori. My doctor was concerned because my A1C numbers were at 10.0 and he was afraid I could have a stroke or heart attack so we weighed our options and I went on Ozempic for a year. This was before all the hype about it. My A1C went down and I lost 20 pounds. If you can't get you blood sugars under control and you are eating a sensible diet, you may have to weigh all the odds and see if you can go on it for say 6 months to see if things smarten up. I would have a serious discussion with the doctor, tho before making a decision. Good luck!

@@travelsinmychair4140 Ty for the kind reply! I very much appreciate u taking the time to do so. My hubby was dxd with a rare type of leukemia 20 yrs ago. It was rare enough that normal Drs didn’t know anything about it. I ordered medical textbooks and taught myself what the bone marrow does and what each cell line does. There were only 3 oncologists in Tx that had any experience with treating it, and we ended up going to MD Anderson Cancer Center. I had to educate ER Drs several times bc they weren’t familiar with his type of leukemia. I say all that bc I’m pretty fluent at reading and understanding medical jargon so I tend to do extensive research into medical things. I’m frustrated with my Dr bc she didn’t really listen to my concerns over Ozempic interacting with my other disease processes. We’ve had multiple conversations, and she just doesn’t seem to understand that if the “cure” is worse than the disease, it’s not worth anything. I’m 55, and as I’ve gotten older, my body tends to react badly to most medications. We’ve tried metformin, rybelsus (pill form of Ozempic), farxiga, and now Ozempic. I couldn’t tolerate any of the meds we’ve tried bc of side effects. I just saw my Dr 2 weeks ago, and my A1C was at 9, down from 9.4 3 months prior. I had also lost 4lbs. She wasn’t encouraging at all even tho I’d shown a small amt of improvement. I have high BP as well, and I can’t tolerate 10mg of Amlodipine even tho that’s what she keeps trying to get me to. I faint at the 10mg dosage. I’m taking 5mg of Amlodipine, and she had me try 7.5mg of Amlodipine after I saw her two weeks ago. I didn’t faint, but I got dizzy enough that I vomited. She just doesn’t seem to listen. My BP is perfectly fine at home, but when I go see her it’s high every time bc she aggravates me. I’ve been taking my BP at home for months with pics as proof, and she can see it’s perfectly fine most of the time, but she still insists on trying to up the Amlodipine dosage bc my BP is high when I see her. She knows I have trouble with side effects from meds yet she just seems to push more meds with more side effects on me. I have three dogs (see profile pic), a chronically ill hubby, a big garden, and a house to take care of so I can’t afford to faint, vomit from dizziness, or take a medication like Ozempic that may mess me up in a variety of ways. I really think all my research is just pointing me to the fact that I need to find a new Dr who listens to me, and listens to what my body says when it comes to different meds. I have been watching my diet, charting what I’m eating, cutting back on carbs and sugar, and there has been improvement, albeit small. I think she just wants to check a box that my issues have resolved under her care, and she doesn’t like that we can’t get my issues resolved in the manner and timeframe she wants it to be. Ty again for ur reply, and ty for ur video bc it has allowed me to get a fellow pt’s input and experience on an every day personal lvl w/o any bias! I will be praying for u that ur health issues show improvement and maybe remission. My hubby’s leukemia has moved into more of a chronic phase rather than an acute phase, and we’ve been able to enjoy a period of relative stability in the last couple of years. I do so hope u will be able to enjoy a period of relative stability as well! Big hugs from Tx - hang in there! ❤️

You are such a sweet lady, I'm so sorry for the health issues you're dealing with. Thank you for your honest thoughts and for sharing your experience with Ozempic. I am 65 and been obese for about 15 years. I have used various diets and exercise with some success, but the weight always comes back. I have no health issues at all, obesity related or otherwise, other than painful arthritis in my fingers--which we all know is due to age and heredity and not weight. :) I personally feel that these weight loss drugs are a danger, and it scares me that so many people--mostly women--are jumping in with both feet merely to lose weight. We simply do not know what the long-term effects will be. I fear in 10 or 20 years there will be TV ads from attorneys looking for people to join a class-action lawsuit, as has been the case so many times with other drugs.
I will never take this sort of drug. If I get diabetes I will control it with diet alone, sch as strict low carb. IN fact, I eat 90% low carb now and I think this is why I do not have diabetes (my father had it so I am at risk)

I was on Ozempic for about 9 months. Lost 60 pounds. During the first three months I was eating very little. In fact there were times that I drank liquids because I couldn't eat. They told me at the doctor's office. Well yes that's what is supposed to happen. Well then I started with the side effects. Constipation got worse, migraine headaches increased and then I started having vision problems. In October of last year there was a shortage of Ozempic so I went for weeks without having it. Finally in December I told my doctor I wanted to stop and he argued with me about the headaches but he took me off it. Now I have gained about half the weight back and my blood sugar is up again. I rarely get headaches. Going back to the doctor this month but I will not go back on Ozempic. I do not want to experience what I did before.

Look into Keto and Carnivore diets. I couldn't do carnivore as I really like veggies, so I did Ketovore. I eat meat and veggies every day, but cut out all of the carbs. I lost 120lbs and all my bloodwork is great. Avoid processed foods and all seed oils if possible. Seed oils are Keto, but terrible for you, so just best to avoid them as much as possible. Also look into intermittent fasting. Start slow and see what happens. It's not as hard as you probably think. We don't need to eat 3 meals a day plus snacks. I eat once a day and feel great. You have nothing to lose but the weight. If I did it, you can too. Nothing special about me. Best of luck to you!!

I have been on Ozempic for 18 months.I’m 5’3” and was 285pounds. No medical problems at that time. Strong family history of heart disease. I went on Ozempic for weight loss. I have chronic obesity. Honestly, the only side effect I had in the beginning was nausea. I do have ongoing constipation but I always had. I may go 2 extra days without having a bowl movement. I’m down 97 pounds in that 18 months and I feel I hit a plateau. I feel great health wise. I eat, I always ate but not as much as I do now. I get hungry now but I think it’s normal having been on the medication for so long. I plan on staying on Ozempic indefinitely unless my body tells me otherwise. It’s s treating my chronic obesity and as long as I feel healthy I will remain on it. Why would someone with high blood pressure come of their medication if it’s helping to regulate their blood pressure in a positive way. I hope this sheds some light to some people on how Ozempic is worzking for me. The most important thing I didn’t mention and I just is the my family doctor closely monitors my condition on the drug.

Cake just doesn't do it for me anymore. But one of the serious side effects has to do with the Thyroid. I say, do your homework and talk to your doctor or pharmacist. I was profoundly obese, type 2 diabetes, HBP, asthma, name it I had it. Went on Ozempic in June 2022. Made it only 6 weeks because I was curled in a ball moaning. That drug was horrific!!
I then went on Mounjaro in April 2023. I am 5’ 5” and was 273 pounds. I’m now down to 182. I want to lose about 20-25 more and I’ll be content. There are drawbacks with cramps and bowel issues, but nothing I can’t handle. I’m not hungry. That said, I’ve changed my lifestyle. I now see food as fuel and not a coping mechanism. Therapy helped too. I’m off insulin, HBP meds and my A1C is 5.8. I haven’t felt this good in 40 years. I can move. I can walk without getting winded and have actual energy. I used it for a year and recently stopped. I used it, not for weight loss, but bcuz of my type 2 diabetes. Out of all the different meds I've tried, Ozempic was the only thing that really helped lower my A1c level from 12.5 to 5.2. The reason why I decided to stop is bcuz it depleted all my muscles mass it ate away every muscle on my body. My body is just flabby and saggy and not due to fat loss but muscle loss. It also aged my face and a complete hair loss. I have lost so much hair to the point that I have to wear a wig now. It hasn't been a good experience for me, and i regret taking it.

    • @travelsinmychair4140

Depending on your age, 5.2 is too low anyway. I am 73 and my doctor wants me at 7.0. It took over a year for my hair to start coming back but now it is very dry and I have a weird cow lick that is confusing to my hair stylist, as I never had that before. Do you ever get light headed or have trouble eating? You should probably talk to your doctor and let him/her know what is going on.

A rule of thumb about A1C is it should be approximately where your age is. You are 56, so anything up to that is probably good. I'm 73 and 7.0 is a perfect number for me. My problem is I got down to 5.7 and 6.1 and that put a red flag up. Too low. And sure enough, I had been having dry mouth and headaches. I was just watching a show that said new studies are showing that ozemic effects the brain in a way that it calms the hormone in most people for happiness/desire and excitement and that is one of the reasons people lose their desire for food which in turn causes weight loss and that the reason many people are over weight is because of the desire and pleasure they get from eating.. it’s not necessarily because they are hungry but they get almost like a high/ euphoric from the food … and ozempic Blocks that hormone I wish I could remember the hormone name… but the study also found that it not only removes desire to eat but other desires as well and it is causing depression and suicidal thoughts in many people because they have no desire for things in life … and as I hear you say how you were not happy and how you no longer had the desire for food I knew that is what the article was trying to explain…we must be careful when we take medicine that is made to control our mind … the study also stated that the long term effects on the brain have yet to be established… Thank you for sharing your experience it definitely proves to me that there is an effect on the brain…

So, I shut up and watch them pop pills, inject themselves and are very obese. I’m carnivore and in excellent health.

@@nancylorenz5082You have a poor understanding of diabetes. Please leave your friends alone. Your carnivore diet is a terrible decision. Any amount of research will tell you that.

You should preface your video with the statement that taking Ozempic with cancer caused you issues. I have been on Ozempic for almost a year with no side effects at all. My A1C is 5.4 and I have lost 30 pounds. The only thing different in my diet is that I no longer crave sugar and eat about half of what I used to because I feel satiated sooner. My doctor says I will need to be on Ozempic for life (I am 70) and I have no problem with that. The thought of diabetes complications is worth any side effect I might encounter on Ozempic. Ozempic is also good for protecting cardiac issues, so that is a welcomed and added bonus.

Hi Candi. The oncologist and nutritionist felt my problems were all related to the Ozempic and that the meds I was on wouldn't cause such intense non eating and weight loss. I am happy this is working for you but I hope you won't have to stay on it for the rest of your life. Stay healthy and happy.

Calories in - calories out. Pretty simple. The actual act of eating does not count as exercise 😅 If you eat carbs (pasta, sweets etc.) you need to walk / work it off. Those calories are for quick energy. Portion size and eating speed are important. Put less on your plate, eat small bites and chew your food well. Drink a few glasses of water throughout the day. You WILL lose weight the healthy way. Your liver, gallbladder, kidneys and heart will thank you for it🩷

Nope, not true. Sounds good but doesn’t always work. I really wish people were more educated when it comes to weight loss. This kind of talk is discouraging for those who are on certain medications that prevent weight loss, are disabled in wheelchairs, and have other medical issues. It’s just not true. There’s nothing simple about it, we’re all very different.

I had side effects from ozempic, I took it because I couldn’t move the numbers on my own, the weight lost was one of the side effects. I had to get off of it because I was throwing up constantly. The ozempic retaught my system when to stop eating, is almost been a year and I haven’t gained any weight. Plus I no longer crave sugar and I eat a lot more vegetables and I cook from scratch most of my meals. Plus it helps that I can no longer eat gluten.

@@travelsinmychair4140 , I was actually shocked when I started losing weight, my doctor hadn’t mentioned it because he was looking to bring down my ac1 (?) numbers, going sugarless and not eating any breads or pasta weren’t producing results, neither was exercising and I could feel myself heading for health disaster.

If you watch a lot of videos from those on these drugs, there are very few that have more than minor side affects that often disappear in time. ANY drug, when it hits the masses is going to have a small few that don't do well on it. Look at the horror warning labels on every drug that exists! It is individual as to who is going to tolerate a drug well and who is not. So please don't be mislead and do a LOT of homework so the information is more representative of "most". It is nice this one is posted for information, but don't think that all get this difficult of a time.

There is slowly getting more information regarding Ozempic, which wasn't available before. I think people need to know good and bad so they can make an informed decision.
