All of your videos are so very helpful to we with bone on bone knee arthritis. I am 75 and taught kindergarten on my feet 10 hours a day for 36 years, taught aerobics in my 30's and early 40's for 10 years at the same time cleaning houses for a job while my 2 children were young. My poor knees have been crying to me, "What else do you want us to do?" I keep telling them, "More, more, more. I need you to be able to do more!" These videos are helping me limber up and strengthen muscles all around including core and upper body. It isn't that I didn't "know" how to do it. It is just that you are so motivating, encouraging, and informative too. Thank you so much.

I watched a number of videos before trying yours and really liked your approach and encouragement. I was able to complete this first 20 minute workout, despite fears my right knee would not conform! Thank you so much. It worked out very well!! I will repeat tomorrow and definitely look at more of the exercises you suggested.

After a first attempt at this, I found I liked it. I was looking for some form of low impact exercise that strengthens but also does even a little cardio, and I found this very helpful. I look forward to doing it again tomorrow!

Having knee osteoarthritis and not realising it was mainly caused by my job over many many years through kneeling down servicing fire extinguishers. Oh well! at least I like to think I was helping to keep people safe in my job.
Anyway, I have found strengthening my knees and legs in general with the excercises and expecially chair squats do make a big difference and am able to walk well along with some jogging without hardly any pain, I'm now just trying to eliviate some spikes of pain I get when in certain positions in the outside of the ankle due to I think to rolling my ankle a number of times in the distant past.
Thanks for your help! It's much appreciated.

I am 71 and have had a PTB prosthetic lower right leg since 1968. As a result of favoring my left leg I have been told be an orthopedic doctor that I have bone on bone damage and I can't expect to improve the situation. I hope that he was wrong. I still work 25 hours a week at a retail store and my fitbit registers 8000 to 10000 steps on my 5 hour day. So, it seems to me that the damage is not sever yet.

Bone on bone can present in different ways! It doesn’t necessarily mean severe pain. Glad you are able to still get 10k steps! You likely may need some muscle strength to help to support your joint. Inner knee pain is commonly helped with single leg strengthening!

A little bit ago,I googled " running with " bone on bone" knee osteoarthritis. The first video that popped up was with this particular doctor having a conversation with a woman who had positive results with this doctor's program. I'm a bit confused though.
Let me skip around with a few thoughts going through my mind. In this particular video above, towards the end, at about 21 minutes she says what is probably helpful (and a huge deal) for someone going from debilitating arthritic knees to experiencing a slight improvement. That's it. Not trying to sound brutal, but that is what seems to be the case. Like, your bodily experience goes from really, really, really, really bad to really, really, really bad. Slight improvement, but it's still really bad. I mean, if we're being honest here, that's just the truth.
I'm 48. I grew up playing every sport. By the time I was 26, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis of my right knee. By 28, all I could do was walk without pain. Any attempt at playing tennis or basketball was extremely painful. Not only that, the function just wasn't there. It was a total nightmare. And let's be clear, it's not about any one particular sport I could no longer play. The function just wasn't there. The knee was completely trashed. So all of the endorphins and adrenaline and dopamine and things like that that stream through a person's body when they're able to run because they have healthy knees, all of that is gone. It's a very big deal. Your life is no longer the same. And it certainly doesn't get better lol
The previous video I was watching with this particular doctor and the woman who happened to be a former yoga instructor(it's roughly a 28 minute video for anybody trying to find it), there's several things that I wonder about.
Wait a minute... can you run ? Jump ? This is what I want to ask this lady. She mentioned how she didn't enjoy running but that is totally beside the point. Completely irrelevant. If you can't run, you have extremely unhealthy joints. Diseased joints. Something isn't right.
Almost every orthopedic surgeon I've encountered (as well as information that pops up when you read about knee osteoarthritis) essentially encourages a lifestyle that is opposite of when we were children. All of the fun stuff is discouraged. At the other end of the spectrum is that of the elderly human. And that's what is often prescribed.
Could that advice be more depressing? Not really. So, waddle in a swimming pool. Ride a bike. Do Tai chi. Garden. Are you freaking kidding me !?!? This is what should be classified as a serious drop off in quality of life.
I personally have experienced prolotherapy and a PRP injection and two different types of stem cell injections and they did absolutely nothing. Not a thing. So,I went ahead and got the "gel" shot or what is referred to as visco supplementation or the hyaluronic acid injection. This did something. It helped.
From my understanding, this is supposed to create " cushioning " by lubricating the joint. And it appears to have done so. Want to hear something incredible? Within a few days, I began to feel that adrenaline and endorphins streaming through my body. It was incredible. I was honestly feeling euphoric. Now, it's important that I stress I hadn't fully tested the knee by attempting to play basketball or tennis. I'll get to that here in a minute.
But just this gel injection was so worth it. And it's hard to quantify but I will try to do so. On the scale of one - 100, wherever I was, this took me up a full 15 points. Something like that.
Now, about 2 weeks ago, I finally attempted to play some singles tennis. Total mess. Heartbreaking. " Fell on my face " once again. I must share though that I didn't feel what I otherwise would have felt (seriously depressed and hopeless)after trying to play had I not received that gel injection. It's hard to explain in words but I will try.
Though I'm better with the gel injection, I was just reminded of my limitations. Though I'm " better, " my knee is trashed. That's a fact. I have absolutely no doubt that I will never be able to play basketball or tennis or engage in any sort of high impact sport ever again unless I get a total knee replacement.
My recent visit for a healthcare checkup was with a physician who shared a brief conversation with me regarding this. In her case, she has arthritis in her shoulder. She said to me that if she as much as reaches back even once, that can inflame the shoulder and cause pain that she will experience for 2 weeks. Can you believe that!? Are you kidding me!?! Life lol. I proceeded to tell her that I can totally understand. If I as much as attempt to lift weights to try and " strengthen" these surrounding muscles, I have the same experience that she does. My knee just turns to mush. It's a several weeks setback. Sucks !
Do these readers or subscribers understand that you can get a total knee replacement and literally run marathons? Do you know that? And if you can run 26.2 miles, you can essentially do anything and everything that's high impact as well as low impact. You can do whatever you want. And just knowing this creates hope which creates happiness and joy and all these other wonderful things a human can experience and feel.
I almost never take the time to leave any sort of review or comment. I was just watching the previous video and was curious to see what she had to say. Hmmmmm.... Was there any possibility she could suggest something that could allow me to engage in high impact activities without getting a total knee replacement? This is what I wondered. But again, it just appears to be information that can help a person from going to being really, really, really, really bad to just a little less bad. And hey, that's something. It's a slight improvement. But here's just a random human, human just like you trying to figure out a way to experience life in a more joyful way. And to the best of my understanding, it appears is though a total knee replacement is absolutely something that can allow you to feel young again.
Just simply google " top knee replacement surgeons in the United States" and call some of them. Ask them the important questions. What will I be able to do with a total knee replacement that you performed on me? At the end of this video, like I said earlier, at about 21 minutes, when she says that you can maybe mow along with a little less pain or walk up the stairs more comfortably, if that's all these stretching and exercises can do, no thank you. While several surgeons don't recommend running on a total knee replacement, there's multiple ones like the Stone Clinic in San Francisco California that will inspire you when you read their testimonials and watch some of their videos. People running 26.2 MI marathons. Doing jump squat type exercises. This is one of a few surgeons I've contacted that tell you all of this is totally possible.
So good luck to everybody out there and please take the time to consider and question, what really is possible? It's totally understandable to find such gloom forecasts from physical therapists as completely laughable when you wonder if life is even worth living if that's how I have live it. And this therapist ( as well as any other) should take the time to know what some random human being like myself knows about what a total knee replacement can do for you. You'll be able to do a lot more than just mow the lawn and walk up your stairs a bit more comfortably.
I'm just curious about this doctor's program and if the extent of its positivity it's just taking a person from not being able to mow a lawn to being able to mow a lawn. Are you serious? That's as Good as It gets?
I'm actually as positive and optimistic as it gets but someone who has a deep appreciation and ability to empathize with people who experience chronic pain. I understand what this does to your life. It essentially takes everything from you. Takes all the happiness and joy you once experienced from these activities especially when you were a kid.

    • @jasonshelley4750
      @jasonshelley4750 Рік тому

I actually had much more to say but it appears as though I was cut off. Anyway, the gist of what I was trying to express was this. If all this doctor or any therapist can do or recommend is getting you to a place where you're just a little less miserable but still miserable, absolutely, you should take that. But don't lose sight of that reality that it's only a little better. It's still sucks. Just sucks a little less lol. If anybody takes the time to Google " best total knee replacement surgeons in the country" you will find that you realistically can do things like run a marathon on a total knee replacement. Did you know that? And if you can do that, you essentially can do any thing - high impact or low impact. There's places like the Stone Clinic in San francisco, California where you can read and watch videos and testimonials of people doing as much. And that's a lot more than just simply being able to walk up an additional stair with a little less pain or being able to mow the lawn lol

Hi Jason- it is possible to get back to running, tennis, jumping etc even with osteoarthritis. The woman you are referring to in the video (the yoga instructor) she is getting back to jumping and feeling strong enough to squat deeply, spin, and get back to doing yoga.
There can absolutely be a time and a place for surgery but not everyone has positive outcomes unfortunately. There are some that are active and can get back to higher level things. But others continue to deal with pain.
It’s not as simple as just getting surgery and there is more that can be improved upon besides swimming and Tai chi.
You may find this blog post helpful on jumping with osteoarthritis: keeptheadventurealive.com/is-jumping-safe-for-osteoarthritis/
