I can remember port-a-walls on my Dad's 58 Edsel. That was a nasty fast car... I actually installed them when I first worked in a tire shop. Great video, thanks...

    Looks Great.
Portawalls, bring back great memories from my childhood. Dad ran Portawalls on his 49 Ford Conv. & his 56 Buick. That was 1961

Although it would be irreversible, rubber cement would vulcanized between the two materials and become an irreversible bond. Probably would eliminate separation and pop off

Great info on those! I thought of doing it but heard horror stories of how floppy they look and, fit. I think you have the technique down that looks great. 1-7/8” size for radials is a good tip. Thanks!

It’s still beyond my understanding why tire companies. Would send people out the door to their competitors to find just a simple thing like white wall tires. The ones for every day use. Don’t they realize how much nicer they look on some of the “luxury” cars that they make. Michelin, Ford, Gm. Are you listening?

these whitewalls are inexpensive and looks beautiful! But from my personal experience (I had them on my VW beetle) and other friends on their classic cars, above certain speeds they become floppy and after a while they wear out the side of the tire, sometimes reaching the canvas. But i always smile when i see the Pontiac 😊😊😊

There are still a couple of smaller brand tires that make the 70's - 80's style whitewalls. For the wide ones shown in this video, Coker Tires makes them in radial or bias belted versions. When I was growing up, we called them Gangster walls. If you watch some of the old gangster movies, most of there luxury cars wear wide whites like these.

Very interesting looks very very nice looks like a real white wall. I wanted to do that on my car, now is there any issues with leaking around the rim bead because that's in between the rim and the tire and theres a gap there. There's no issues with that Gap from the white wall. do you have to put any kind of sealer or anything in the bead? basically it's my question. you haven't had any issues with slow leaks on the rims?
