I'm a Malaysian Muslim from Sabah and given that my older sister lives near the Batu Caves commuter station since 2013, I would just walk all the way from her condominium complex to the commuter station instead of relying on her free time to use the car, if ever I had the chance to visit her on my very own someday!
Bravo, totally agree. As a Malaysian myself who used public transport and doesn't own any personal vehicles, I hope more Malaysian can use the public transportation more and walk more in general, instead of being lazy to walk and only driving everywhere. I agree that Malaysia have too many cars. Some people even have multiple cars per family.

Do you know when will it be fully operational? Can't wait for the line to start running since I'm planning to move to less hectic areas like Cyberjaya and commute to work in KL using the MRT.
Great video Andrew. For Malaysians, they can get a Day Pass of RM5/day. All you can ride. I was really impressed when I first discovered the extent of the RapidKL system in KL.
Thanks for this awesome intro to our great public transportation infrastructure built on the sweat of its hardworking people via taxation. Thanks for encouraging locals to utilise what they paid for and continue to pay for so that roads are less congested and the environment is saved a little bit more.
Love the video. You are more familiar with the transport system than many Malaysians. Very good information after reading those comments too. Thank you.
Great video! We completely agree that KL's public transportation system is fabulous and more people should use it instead of driving. As short term visitors to KL, we found the public transit to be super helpful for navigating the sites of the city.
Rapid KL is a fantastic transportation option. It can get crowded during rush hour, but it beats bring in that horrific traffic. Peter proves one can live in KL without a car or motorbike. Enjoyed the vlog. Thank you.
The weather here is hot humid raining mostly every other day. Owning a car is not a luxury but safety. You do not want to be robbed, mugged. Lots of snatch thieves on motorbike in the city. In the early 2000, many were victims of snatch thieves died due to harm done to them. In USA weather is cold most of the time. Ppl walk to warm up.
Fun and lovely tour. I don't think I would ever have the bravery to drive a car or especially ride a motorcycle in a foreign city so I applaud you for that. I do enjoy taken public transportation when it's clean and efficient.
The main reason many malaysian including my family in Malaysia still using their own transport (cars/bikes) is that most of us bought a house/apartment further away from the city due to increasing price of housing in most of the city. Most of the housing area is new and still without proper public transport. And also it's easier and safer to use your own car to send your kids to school and then stratight to work.
You're right about there being kind of a stigma around taking public transportation. But it's changing, though. A lot of younger people really appreciate public transportation. I, for one, cannot wait for the LRT3 which goes all the way to Klang to be operational!
I'm born and bred in KL and I love the transportation system here. Been using them since high school. I do hope however the train system could be extended to other states as well and not just focused on KL & Klang Valley. At least cover the whole of Selangor (or that was probably what the earlier Prime Minister tried to do when he introduced the MRT) Penang needs an efficient LRT system too. There's too many cars there and the drivers are crazy. It's scary to drive over there.
I wish the feeder bus system is more frequent. You usually have to wait at least half hour for the bus. I see dozens of them parked at the station when they should be on the road. If only they get that fixed, the public transport system in Klang Valley would be top notch.
I roam Asia constantly but to me paradise is the departure of the train from KL Central to Butterworth,i sit back with a book,my IPad,snack and drink and happiness of a cat in the window, just love it so much.
Another great video, I always look forward to watching them. Can I say by way of hopefully constructive feedback, I find the background music a little bit distracting. There was times when it looked like you were trying talk over the top of it, perhaps either reducing the level or cutting it out altogether might be a good option. As to KL public transportation, I love it, I have used it many times, it’s a great way to get around, other than Grab. Keep up the great work.
Singapore and HK have a concentrated population. They require shorter lines but at the same time they get much higher number of passengers within a much shorter distance and travel time. The cost versus profit ratio is higher towards the profit side.
Thank you Taylor, that was new for me. I take only the public transport in Berlin. We have a new flat rate ticket for all of Germany for Euro 49.00 per month.
Totally agree with you that Malaysians are crazy with cars. The train system in KL is pretty good to go to almost everywhere. Driving in the jam is crazy
Well, I think the Chan Sow Lin station is even closer than ampang. And there is the new line to putrajaya (access to KLIA Transit) and Kwasara Damansara. For me is obvious, the MRT is a copy of the London tube, just not completed yet. The so important circle line is planned to open in 2030 and then there will be the MRT station next to M City. This will hopefully be the breaktrough. However, the road traffic is much better than in London and they do a lot to improve, what is also great. This city needs both, RTS and road. Especially the east klang valley expressway that will hopefully complete in 2024 and reduces travel time from M-City to airport to just under 30 min. So, even though not complete yet, the gradual improvement of both, rail and road is promissing.

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia and is almost equal to the size of Peninsular Malaysia. Famed for its dense rainforest and paradise beaches, it is no surprise that Sarawak is one of the top tourist spots in Malaysia.
When visiting KL, I like to take the MRT/LRT since you can learn the connections between the stations, meet a lot of people, and the price is quite cheap.
I don't believe that Malaysian actually think that public transport is for poor people. However, they love their cars too much, just like Americans, I think. The main reason is that they are lazy to walk, so unless the station is right in front of their houses, it is quite hard to convince them. I have been using public transport for more than 5 years and I hardly use my car anymore. It is just dumb to spend so much time in kl traffic when you are driving. I think the Malaysian attitude towards public transport has started changing. I see more and more people especially the young ones using the trains and busses.

You really does enjoyed our public transport system in Kuala Lumpur. I do reckon that Malaysia public transportation system is improving gradually, as a railway fan I do noticed the operators tried their best to provide the service in safe and timely manner. However, regarding the question on why not all Malaysians taking public transport, there are reasons such as the city design of entire Malaysia are designed for car mobility only, I am living in surburb of KL, even though there are some commercial areas opposite my residence there are no way to walk across the road of 10 lanes. In Malaysia, the pedestrian are often neglected when the local council are expanding the roads to cater for more vehicles, and even if there are pedestrian sidewalks oftentime they are occupied by hawkers, or motorcycles (back in 2019, in front of KLCC Twin Tower I almost got hit by a motorcycle riding on top of the pedestrian sidewalk oh lord). And sidewalks don't even properly designed to allow continuous access (most sidewalks ended unexpectedly) and let's don't forget about disabled people they unable to use the pedestrian sidewalks at all. Kuala Lumpur used to have plans for more bus lanes however the plan got axed, it is quite a pity when my bus service often arrive late due to the traffic congestion and sometimes bus bunching with each other. Plus there are no sidewalks (only grass, small gap between the highway crash barriers and big sized ditch) from the bus stop which is just a pole, not even a shelter, walking back to my home after bus is like jungle trekking. Good side on riding public transport for Malaysians. there are transit passes such as My50 Monthly Pass, MyCityPass 1/3 Days Pass. Most of the locals don't even know the 1 day pass of MyCityPass is only cost RM5 to ride the entire rail network in a single day. They are trying their best to attract people to use public transit. Taylor, I found this video thoroughly enjoyable and even more informative. The way you included your high-speed footage of your drive from your apartment to the train station was sheer genius ! And . . a whopping one Ringgit to park your scooter all day worked out to a miserly 21 cents US ! That is simply an astounding rate ! I just cannot get over the beauty of KLCC and as I've mentioned before, to me it would be like living inside a Simm City dream world, so cultural and the architecture is so alluring and pleasing to the eye. My dream would be to live on a high floor in a soho high-ceiling apartment tastefully decorated, and a piano to play next to a million dollar view of the city. I absolutely love and am impressed with your apartment, the park across the street, and the very short distance to KLCC. Thank you so much Taylor for this informative video . Oh a huge P.S. please shoot a video when it comes time to service your Vespa, you won't believe how many people are interested in this sort of thing. If you can film the actual work being done, cost, maybe even a quick interview with the Mechanic would be most welcome. Take very good care Taylor.

@@andrewtaylor4558 Longer shots don’t require more cuts. Live sound is wonderful at establishing a sense of place. Don’t be shy about posting longer videos if the material warrants it. You’re the one making the rules
Really like your content Andrew. I lived in KL prior to there being ANY public transit. Everyone used to use little pink minibuses. I live vicariously through your videos. Please have a nasi lemak for me
I lived in the middle of Bangsar for about 2 years when I studied at UM. Didn’t need a car to move around but was frequently asked by others “why aren’t u driving?”. I always replied “why aren’t you taking public transportation?”.
When it comes to breakdowns, they'll take forever to get it fix. Therefore I feel like Singapore has the best MRT in South East Asia. And the stations are nice too, a level up compared to KL.
As a Malaysian, I don't think our metros are the best yet. Still a lot of catching up to do if compared with Singapore, Taiwan or Hong Kong. In the end if government still continue expanding the networks and maintaining it.
Malaysian government once made a statement that we will develop as a developed country in our own way when someone compares with Singapore and Hong Kong...
I remember those days, that was before they turned pink! Are the old buses still in use: Ampang area: yellow-red-green busses Pudu Cheras: Toong Fong silver-blue busses PJ: Dark blue buses
thank you I always wonder if it would be easy to get around without a car there since everyone seems to say it's either a not convenient/efficient public transit system or "only poor people" use it and safety issues.
Even as local, sometimes i would take train with my friend and enjoy walking around old downtown area and enjoying the scenery like u did n go to some restaurant or cafe. Very relaxing and of course i really enjoy walking around n taking photo. And i dont have to worry about finding parking space or get stuck in the traffic or paying expensive parking rate at some strategic places.
Hi Andrew, l love your videos and it is beneficial for locals and foreigner to get around... You probably do more good in doing more videos like this...keep it up in using kuala lumpur public transport to get around and the cost of get around.
Just got home from KL. We took 4 routes of GoKL for a free tour of all the different parts of the city. Cheap tour with no tour guide.😁 So much traffic that pedestrians don't use crosswalks, just walk in front of cars that are not moving. Watch out for motorbikes zooming between stopped cars.
Just watch what card you purchase at train station. I had a guide and bought a card tried to use on mono rail and rejected had to purchase a new one and top up again. Several different cards available I think. This video explains a lot.
Ah, I see. That is because KTM commuter & RapidKL transits are by two different companies. However, if you own a Touch N Go card instead, you can use it for the KTM commuter as well. Touch N Go is a 3rd party company.
Wat a great vid on msian rail system and general transport- informative and easy to digest. I'm msian n i didnt know stats like we have more vehicles than people! Too much traffic jams here... We sld all try to use more public transport 👍🎉
Hi stranger, it's nice to see more guys using rapid kl. When I visit KL I always use train and maybe bus if necessary, I also remember you live in penang? Or langkawi I forgot now. I've visited to Penang twice I think and I would love to see Pulau Langkawi in future. And yes I originally from Borneo Sarawak but now I lives in Britain now hehe. Keep posted x
you remind me of my friend who was a museum manager for 17 years then he went to China for a few years and back to USA... i felt bad that he came back... we lost contact.
The next time you wanna take the train to KL and beyond, I suggest you ride your bike to Jelatek station. You can park at the station or at Datum Jelatek mall.
Hi Andrew - I lived on Ampang in KL for a couple years while I was teaching English for the UNHCR. I used public transit including the all-Indian buses that ply Ampang. Overall it was a good experience AND I was always the ONLY westerner on the system. KL is choking on its traffic bc there isn't a culture of using public transit - and in previous years what transit there was, was inadequate. So, most people weren't covered by the system. But that's changing and maybe the Malaysian people will change with it? To be seen. I'll look you up next time I'm in KL and we can go out for a drink and compare notes. In the end I moved back to the States when I met my husband-to-be in KL and he came to the US and we got married. The rest is history! Enjoy your time. We enjoy watching your videos as it reminds me of that time in my life there, full of adventure. (I wrote a book about it. Will send another time!)
Outside Greater Kuala Lumpur has a lot to offer, especially East Coast Malaysia like Kelantan Terengganu Its have beautiful OLD MOSQUE, traditional houses adn culture
If you are traveling alone, it make sense to use public transport. But if you are traveling as a family and you need to go to multiple location, it is CHEAPER and FASTER to drive your own vehicle.
You are right.. our metro transits goes more stations and covering larger cities areas. If your area is far, then there is a transit buses going around these area to the nearest station. I dont mean to compare and totally agreeable Malaysia offers the best metro transit system in the region
I am totally agreed with you sir....if I stay in KL I will choose public transportation instead drving my own car and stuck in traffic jam for hours that can kill the mood.

Hello Taylor very wonderiful video again thank you have a good day.
Thank you! You too! 😊
You should try long tours with KTMB to the North of Malaysia.. with beautiful green scenery and the most important.. the delicious FOODS!
And don't forget to make a content Qually's Cafe in Penang. Her food is amazing!
Sounds great! 😊
Hi Andrew nice watching ur channel. Tq
Thank you so much 😊
I’m new to ur channel.. i love it.
Welcome!! 😊
Excellent stuff. I would have liked to see more, longer shots. I doubt I’m the only who watches your channel for its exotic location. Thanks for posting 👍
I wanted more scenery in too. Editing is hard though. 😊
@@andrewtaylor4558 Longer shots don’t require more cuts. Live sound is wonderful at establishing a sense of place. Don’t be shy about posting longer videos if the material warrants it. You’re the one making the rules
@@sidecar7714 Thanks for the encouragement! 😊
Really like your content Andrew. I lived in KL prior to there being ANY public transit. Everyone used to use little pink minibuses. I live vicariously through your videos. Please have a nasi lemak for me
Will do, thanks! 😊
Yes our family use public transportation for work. However weekend we do drive around for foods.
Even use sometime helps! 😊
I lived in the middle of Bangsar for about 2 years when I studied at UM. Didn’t need a car to move around but was frequently asked by others “why aren’t u driving?”. I always replied “why aren’t you taking public transportation?”.
Yes! Good for you! 😊
Nice
Singapore public transport is world class. Superb vid , thanks .
Many thanks! 😊
When it comes to breakdowns, they'll take forever to get it fix. Therefore I feel like Singapore has the best MRT in South East Asia. And the stations are nice too, a level up compared to KL.
Traffic is bad during peak time. But not as bad as Jakarta, manila or bangkok
I’m sure you are correct. 😊
As a Malaysian, I don't think our metros are the best yet. Still a lot of catching up to do if compared with Singapore, Taiwan or Hong Kong. In the end if government still continue expanding the networks and maintaining it.
Singapore, taiwan and hk is a very small small small country bro,so they so eazily to develop it..(regarding to the transportation)
@@ahboonahboon8355 Not an excuse
Don't compareto spore Taiwan or hongkong.they are small countries
Malaysian government once made a statement that we will develop as a developed country in our own way when someone compares with Singapore and Hong Kong...
@@timungcina honestly those countries I mentioned are a good model to copy. Be inspired.
In the early days of public transportation, Bas Mini was really good, 50 sen gets you nearly everywhere
I remember those days, that was before they turned pink! Are the old buses still in use:
Ampang area: yellow-red-green busses
Pudu Cheras: Toong Fong silver-blue busses
PJ: Dark blue buses
Good content keep up the good work.
Nice video ...i live in KL too near Sri Hartamas..👍
thank you I always wonder if it would be easy to get around without a car there since everyone seems to say it's either a not convenient/efficient public transit system or "only poor people" use it and safety issues.
Absolutely 👍
Hi Andrew, l love your videos and it is beneficial for locals and foreigner to get around... You probably do more good in doing more videos like this...keep it up in using kuala lumpur public transport to get around and the cost of get around.
Thanks for the tips! 😊
Just got home from KL. We took 4 routes of GoKL for a free tour of all the different parts of the city. Cheap tour with no tour guide.😁
So much traffic that pedestrians don't use crosswalks, just walk in front of cars that are not moving. Watch out for motorbikes zooming between stopped cars.
Yes, pedestrians do need to be careful. 😊
Just watch what card you purchase at train station. I had a guide and bought a card tried to use on mono rail and rejected had to purchase a new one and top up again. Several different cards available I think. This video explains a lot.
Good tip! 😊
That was probably a few years ago I think. Nowdays, they unified the system and Touch N Go can used on all public transit
Hi Simon, it was only December, i got a Komuter link card. I am back to using Grab.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I do agree each person regardless of wealth is welcome to use public transportation. It will take a change of mindset and attitude towards it
Absolutely 😊
Hi stranger, it's nice to see more guys using rapid kl. When I visit KL I always use train and maybe bus if necessary, I also remember you live in penang? Or langkawi I forgot now. I've visited to Penang twice I think and I would love to see Pulau Langkawi in future. And yes I originally from Borneo Sarawak but now I lives in Britain now hehe. Keep posted x
Thanks for sharing 😊
That true andrew.
you remind me of my friend who was a museum manager for 17 years then he went to China for a few years and back to USA... i felt bad that he came back... we lost contact.
Nice vlog sir...I like your vlog because of your English word very easy for me to understand...thanx sir...have a nice day in KL...
So nice of you 😊
Thank you Andrew.. you're awesome. Malaysia boleh lah..😬💪❤️
Thank you so much 😊
The next time you wanna take the train to KL and beyond, I suggest you ride your bike to Jelatek station. You can park at the station or at Datum Jelatek mall.
Good tip, thanks 😊
Thanks for sharing your story! Would love to see your book. 😊
Outside Greater Kuala Lumpur has a lot to offer, especially East Coast Malaysia like Kelantan Terengganu
Its have beautiful OLD MOSQUE, traditional houses adn culture
Thanks for the tips! 😊
Wow Peter is a pro!
Yes, he knows his way around KL, that’s for sure. 😊
If you are traveling alone, it make sense to use public transport. But if you are traveling as a family and you need to go to multiple location, it is CHEAPER and FASTER to drive your own vehicle.
That’s probably true. 😊
Great 👍
Motorcycles are convenient in KL and surrounding areas so far the same as in Penang
You are most welcome to take LRT n MRT to go around PJ, Sunway
Wow Peter your are more local savvy than me.. 😅
