Oh my god... What a small world! My partner and I know Richard. My partner met him (decades ago) here in Adelaide and I knew him when I was living in Malaysia, years back. Was wondering if he was still in Malaysia and it's good to see he is.
I was transported back in time to our balcony and garden in Singapore 78-80. Wow what a mind trip. Would love to see an interview and hear from a New Zealander who is retired in Malaya.
How good was this. Dentists totally agree had to go earlier in the year while touring here and arrived back and needed dentist again and so good. and 1/3 of cost in Australia - mostly compassionate service to a cry baby like me. Moved into my new unit yesterday and first thing I said to my self was- Should have got the one with the balcony. Then I see this and yes the plants make the place so fresh. Good work again Taylor and thank you to your brave mate for being a guest.👍🙏
wowww!!!! it so nice & wonderful to share this video with us. very happy to see you with other friend (expat) & sharing their experience live in malaysia. hope u'r day become more interesting & full of joy. sorry, i can't hear well richard explanation, his voice very slow & soft. luckily u'r voice clearly. excited to see more story from you.
Thank you Andrew for sharing Malaysia with the world. Maybe please put up subtitles or lower the music volume so we can hear the talk better. Keep up the good work!❤
Hi Taylor , this is a lovely video interview with Richard , he’s such a happy and cool guy and wow what an interesting life he’s had , so wonderful. Thanks to you and Richard for sharing this .
Your point on KL being a hub for travel is a good one. While Penang has a few international flights to nearby destinations it is not that convenient for the traveller. Sure it's only an hour's flight to KL but in practice it adds many hours to any journey
Hey again Taylor! I love the new format and I'm excited to see where this series goes! It's great to see you trying out new formats and I think that this one will stick. Did you use the mic from your review a few days ago? Myy partner and I could hear you fine (there was a bit of echo) but it was hard to hear Richard. Perhaps bringing the mic along and passing it to your interviewee when they speak would be helpful
Hey dude.... l love this part of your channel... what a great idea with a tropical living at one of your friends house, its gorgeous...l hope more attractive videos from you... Thanks for sharing... 😊
Both of you have such a soothing voice...with the soft background music makes it very calming. Oh and I'm Malaysian. Glad to have both you here. Cheers!
Goodness Andrew I also use the map like you did while I lived in KL 😆 I would print the google map and highlight the route with a marker and carry it out, but I still got lost along the way xD Richard' lake garden in Adelaide is so beautiful! 😍 Smart thinking on aquatic plants too. I know that during pandemic aquatic plants became a hot commodity and sold at high prices lol Richard's apartment in KL also looks big with even bigger balcony than normal, all the tropical plants makes it seems like it's on the ground floor instead, good catch 👍😄
Nice work. Very informative. It’s good to have an apartment, or, house tour. Personally, I have lived in Asia from the U.K. since 1999 . I have avoided houses with gardens like the plague, in preference to serviced quality condos with huge swimming pools and gym facilities. The reason is simple. Houses with gardens get invaded by all sorts of lizards, spiders, snakes. Mosquitos ( water and trees are ideal habitats), and , other creepy -crawlies.
Consult professional land/gardenscapers. I've read about so many REPELLANTS advertisements & documentaries in Malaysian Newspapers, magazines & TV !!!... Even for snakes & lizards !!! Just in case you want to own A SAFE GARDEN !!!
Interesting. I know a number of Chinese from KL who have been living in Auckland, New Zealand, for quite awhile, now, and for the most part have settled in well to what is really a quite different lifestyle. They often return to Malaysia during holiday breaks to see family, but none of them, as far as I know, have moved back permanently and they all seem to have got good jobs, though have done it hard initially. It seems the grass is always greener, no matter where people live! I'll be interested in seeing who else pops up in your series of interviews and home tours. 👍
Yeah Australia advertising professional jobs with citizenship to help populate the country, many Malaysian took up the opportunity since the pay is higher and it's closer to travel back home.
the reason they probably never go back is because once they hit grandparents age their new job is to take care of the grandchildren. lol . whereas maybe westerners are more independent. Just a guess.
Hey Andrew, thx for the vlog, I decided to return to Msia to settle down after living in the US and SG about 12 years ago. I always find these vlogs so interesting to watch… hehe… if you’re in KL, how about catching a cup of kwoffee… looking forward to ur reply :-) and OMG, how I rmb having to print out sheets of directions when I had to drive from Denton, Texas, to Dallas to go to the Asian Market and Malaysian restaurants hehe
I studied in Adelaide before , nicr city. One of my friends who also studied in Adelaide has a store IFMAL in Melawati that sells many food items from Australia (Coles, Woolies and Kmart).
What an inspiring and talented gentleman, thank you Taylor. It's difficult to hear his voice though , would you be able to reduce the background music?
Andrew why don't you change your youtube channel as Andrew's expatriate life and friends in Malaysia instead of just your name. This is just a suggestion to differentiate your youtube channel than others.
Hi Andrew! Good to have nice people come retire in Malaysia and contribute in whatever way! Just one request : could you tone down the background music/noise? Thanks
I want to retire in similar fashion! Live off my rental income. And base myself in a hub in a region for intense exploration. I still have time, before all that. But it's really nice to have a role model!
Boss, the music is loud..could not hear what he was saying..(boss is what we Malaysian sometimes address people🤣).sometimes we address uncle/aunt to older people to respect them 🤩🤩🤗🤗..u will come across it one day so dont get culture shock🤣🤣
Richard has beautiful garden apartment. I like this type of video although it is quite difficult to understand or hear him. Another mic for the interviewee is recommended.
Just watching this Andrew, what an endearing man,and Andrew you have a quality you probably don't realise...such patience and a good interviewer ,hope you never have to interview my dad...he always digresses and he would say,I have to digress...ahhhhh, and you don't look past 55 Andrew!!
Thanks for this kind of interview. I think you need to find your own touch for this youtube channel, and it was evident from the start that you can't chase the same things than the youngest youtuber. Also, something I would love to see in your channel is interview of Malaysian people. I would love to know how they live and what they think about expats.
I still don't get the reason why he chose Malaysia, of other SEA countries for retirement, or he did tell but can't hear well due to the background music..
Hello Taylor. Excellent video. Lots of good info and different points of view. However, I'm a bit hard of hearing. Your background music while quite relaxing, seems to "overpower" the conversation!😊. At least for half deaf folks like me! Lol!
To be fair, it was my first interview and he was very soft spoken. Bet you could hear me! We were the same distance from the mic! Anyway, I agree about the music. 😊
Oh my god... What a small world! My partner and I know Richard. My partner met him (decades ago) here in Adelaide and I knew him when I was living in Malaysia, years back. Was wondering if he was still in Malaysia and it's good to see he is.
Wow, small world indeed! 😊
Learning so much!!! You need to do more of these!!!
Thanks Ray Mak! 😊
It was so interesting to hear his story and see his stunning apartment! I look forward to more expat retiree interviews.
Thanks Linda! 😊
I was transported back in time to our balcony and garden in Singapore 78-80. Wow what a mind trip. Would love to see an interview and hear from a New Zealander who is retired in Malaya.
That will be easy. I’ll interview my Kiwi friend Jill! 😊
Same here, I would love to hear what a New Zealander had to say
Oh..oh..!
We are now Malaysia!
You will have to time-travel to pre-1963 to live in Makaya.
But welcome nevertheless!
Malaya,, old name for Malaysia..
Merry Christmas Andrew and Richard. Thank you for another enlightening video.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Thanks for introducing Richard.

Wow Richard's apartment is so green and cosy. I love the small fountain, birds and garden. Great deco too!
Really enjoyed it , it is interesting to learn about the life of the expats , thanks Taylor !
Thanks 😊

Love this series already. I hope you will invest in a small mic for this series so it would be easier on our ears :)
I plan to. 😊
Taylor, useful information. Please do more interviews with retirees.
Thanks for sharing the story and adventure.
Thank you Andrew for sharing Malaysia with the world. Maybe please put up subtitles or lower the music volume so we can hear the talk better. Keep up the good work!❤
They are all subtitled you just have to click on it. 😊
Great vlog Taylor, nice to meet your new friend , great apartment too
Appreciate listening to Richard and his expat story. Look forward to more of them in the future.
Thanks 😊

Very inspiring. One day will retire and follow his footsteps.
Great videos. 👍
Wow it’s a very huge apartment and very nice design too. I wish I have that kind of creativity to decorate my place like that.
Great content
There used to be even more australians up north at penang or butterworth as the airforce is there. Now scaled back a bit.
Wow!!, Richard...your house is so beautiful...no no no couldn't be in Malaysia !!
I studied in Adelaide before , nicr city. One of my friends who also studied in Adelaide has a store IFMAL in Melawati that sells many food items from Australia (Coles, Woolies and Kmart).
I really loved that apartment-a good interview-I gather that was one in the 5000 a month range-lovely plants all around
I think it might be a bit less but not sure. 😊
What an inspiring and talented gentleman, thank you Taylor. It's difficult to hear his voice though , would you be able to reduce the background music?
Sorry can’t fix sound. 😞
Welcome and thank you
It was so nice to see Richard in KL. We know him from Adelaide.

Andrew why don't you change your youtube channel as Andrew's expatriate life and friends in Malaysia instead of just your name. This is just a suggestion to differentiate your youtube channel than others.
Welcome guys
Hi Andrew!
Good to have nice people come retire in Malaysia and contribute in whatever way!
Just one request : could you tone down the background music/noise?
Thanks
Thanks, hard to please everyone! 😂 I had trouble with the audio on this one. 😊
Hi Richard nice to see you.
Richard probably won’t see your message. I don’t think he checks the comments often. 😂
It is interesting story.. enjoy your stay in Malaysia..
I want to retire in similar fashion! Live off my rental income. And base myself in a hub in a region for intense exploration. I still have time, before all that. But it's really nice to have a role model!

Yep, I know. 😊
Richard has beautiful garden apartment. I like this type of video although it is quite difficult to understand or hear him. Another mic for the interviewee is recommended.
We were equal distance from the mic. He just talks softly. A second mic is on my wish list. 😊
Just watching this Andrew, what an endearing man,and Andrew you have a quality you probably don't realise...such patience and a good interviewer ,hope you never have to interview my dad...he always digresses and he would say,I have to digress...ahhhhh, and you don't look past 55 Andrew!!
Thank you so much! 😊
What a place! 😍
Richards apt is tastefully decorated
Lovely keep going
love yr balcony
Great interview! You gotta give your interviewee their own mic, otherwise we won't hear them well though your mic.
We were equal distance from a shared mic. He is just very soft spoken. I plan to get better mics when I can afford them but they cost rm 1,400. 😊
Yes
You should do Audio books 📚 I enjoy listening to your voice
God bless you all
Inspiring story
Nicely decked out apt

Good idea. 😊
Great view apartment
Dahhling i like ur interview... but perhaps... the sound of de fountain can be sooth out..as i having diffulty listening to his story
Sorry about that. I know and I had noise reduction on too! 😊
Now, i have a happy dilemma. Penang or KL? Thanks for the insightful interview.
@andrewtaylor4558___ How can I reach him?
I still don't get the reason why he chose Malaysia, of other SEA countries for retirement, or he did tell but can't hear well due to the background music..
Sorry. He talks softly too. 😊
I prefer without background music
Yes exactly...
I live in Adelaide
Hello Taylor. Excellent video. Lots of good info and different points of view. However, I'm a bit hard of hearing. Your background music while quite relaxing, seems to "overpower" the conversation!😊. At least for half deaf folks like me! Lol!
I’ve gotten better since then. This is an old video and my first interview. I didn’t even have the proper mics. 😂
@@andrewtaylor4558 Thanks!😊
How beautiful !
Nice
Interesting
Weldone
Great content but the video would be much better without the background music 😅
Thanks
@@andrewtaylor4558 but i like the music. Keep it 😀
your channel quite interesting
Thanks! 😊
Does Richard use a regular cleaning service?
I don’t know. 🤔
I'm malaysia people for me malaysia is are good country ..malaysia have one habit ..because the our politican people are very crazy ...
Did you know there other expats on MM2h like from China and Japan etc
Yes, of course 😊
Well, with their new visa requirements, he's obviously a very rich guy. Malaysia and Indonesia have told ordinary retirees to drop dead.
Or he got in under the old rules. 😊
Great story Taylor but the video was really hard to hear as the music was pretty loud. Perhaps turn it down or off whilst interviewing others?
To be fair, it was my first interview and he was very soft spoken. Bet you could hear me! We were the same distance from the mic! Anyway, I agree about the music. 😊
@@andrewtaylor4558 But it was a great interview Taylor! I really like your style. :-)
How much is rent for an apt like that in KL?
Probably rm 2 - 3,000
The sound is too faint hardly can hear.
Turn it up. 😂
