    RIP MCA man, legendary group hands down. The group that turned me on to hip hop back as a kid. Yeah total Tribe vibes in this one. They always have that vintage sound in there music since day one. MCA totally had the sandpaper vox going, dopest of them all. Q tip is bad azz as always. Gotta give it up to Ad roc as he always has some of the best lyrics when he spits. That fade at the end total bad azz! Dude I love this, I would love to see more old school hip hop reactions. Do something off of Check your head, super dope album

      I have to point out that Ad Roc DOES bring a ton of energy in the songs I've heard but I feel his vocal sound is a like it or hate it type thing. I personally like him but prefer the tone of MC A... Mike D is really smooth as well. Heck they're simple a great trio that changed hip-hop or influenced many (like you said). Now Q-Tip, Q-tip is one of my favorite hip-hop artists of all time.... he's the definition of "smooth". Thank you for the awesome support and I'm glad you were digging this one!!

    You forgot who Ma Bell is, but I got ya. Remember the phone company? Down here in Alabama it was South Central Bell and then changed to Bell South. Landlines. Slang was always Ma Bell.

    Just saw an interview with Adrock he said Qtip was in the studio and started freestyling to that beat and they recorded and edited it. Then MCA, Adrock and Mike D wrote their rhymes around Qtips freestyle.

    • @DannymikReacts
      @DannymikReacts  3 роки тому +1

      If you read the lyrics Q-tip has a much more free style to his words so I can see that. They all through some bars down here and there but it wasn't focused on that. The whole flow of this sound just works.... plain and simple. The sampling was so good as well... abstract style! Thanks so much for the view and interesting comment 🙌👏

      @DannymikReacts  3 роки тому

      Another viewer/subscriber of mine said the same thing (playing their own instruments) and that's something that I didn't know about. He mentioned that on the Beastie Boys later albums they were more instrument based. I'd have to check it out to see if it gave their music more of a rock vibe or a jazzy feel. A Tribe called quest has instruments in their music giving it some smooth jazz tones... I really enjoy that kind of sound.

    I didn't remember this song until the end. I used to have this album. Ma Bell was the nickname for the Bell Telephone Company which had a monopoly on telephones.
    The Beastie Boys started as a punk band and had a few other members from time to time such as drummer Kate Schellenbach who later had success with Luscious Jackson. She left when they transitioned to hip hop. They actually toured with Madonna a year before their debut album. Though I like some of the songs now, I hated License to I'll when it came out in 1886. It was on Rick Rubin's Def Jam label. After a battle to get out of that, they switched to Capitol Records and in 1989 put out Paul's Boutique (a Paul McCartney/Beatles reference) which was produced by the Dust Brothers and may have the most samples ever put on one album...and a big reason the industry clamped down on sampling and limited them. The guys dedicated themselves to relearning instruments and actually played most of the music on later albums. Their great (to me at least) album The In Sound From Way Out is a collection of all the instrumentals they had sprinkled through the next few albums. This also resulted in the bih hit Sabotage with the legendary video by Spike Jonze. They always did their own thing and were very consistentlyvgood. I miss them. They have a nice rabbit hole of music and fun music vidros.
    Welcome back!

      Damn, John, how do you retain all this information... and you span many genres, too. If the viewers want to see me keep reacting to these guys then I'll go through with it but we shall see. I'm a white guy reacting to hip-hop and it's not always an attraction for some reason... at least with me it hasn't been in the past.
      I'm the opposite of you where I've gravitated to the older Beastie Boys where it's more about beats and samples whereas you sound like you like the more organic side of them. I'm so unfamiliar with anything past 2000 for them. Thanks for clearing up the Ma Bell question hahaha... never heard that reference.
      Btw, I did Angelina Jordan (Bohemian Rhapsody) earlier in the week... did you get any notification? Gotta ask because UA-cam sucks at sending them out. Thanks for popping in!!!

      @@DannymikReacts I've gone through the wikipedia a few times as a bunch of people have been reacting to them lately. One of their final albums was To the Five Boroughs which was a return to beat based rap. There's an entertaining music video they did that I just saw for the first time last week that's just them and the DJ, and he was amazing. It is Three MCs and One DJ (or 3 MCs 1 DJ, I'm not sure).
      I don't think people would have a problem with a white guy checking out rap as I find it fun to watch people react to music (if I like it at least) that is outside their usual music.
      My musical variety goes back to college with my fraternity where one of my brothers was a Latino and a DJ and played all kinds of music at out parties. He introduced me to Public Enemy and he and our then president Pete (white guy) introduced me to Erik B and Rakim "Paid in Full (Seven Minutes of Madness Remix)" which was both great and ground breaking. It doesn't seem important now, but it changed a lot and even though it was almost all samples, it got sampled a lot for other songs in rap, hip hop and dance music. My fraternity was the only mostly white fraternity that the minority Greek orgs would party with. And then my dad was into jazz and swing and my mom liked country music. My sister doesn't remember when she liked rock and metal as Madonna came out in 1983, she graduated high school and must have moved into a pop music bubble in college. She doesn't believe that I stole her vinyl of Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance as she's convinced she never bought it. LOL
      I don't have any notifications set, so I get notified randomly including for people I don't sub. But, especially at home, it's easy to keep track of new videos that come in so I saw it. I didn't comment as I have liked her before, but wasn't into that arrangement and her style of vocals with it. There's been a lot of negativity lately so I wanted to avoid adding my own. The Beasties I knew I would like. :)

    Ma Bell was ATT, they had a complete monopoly-everyone used ATT long distance or local. Hell you had to but a phone from ATT. They were broken upinto about 12 regional companies. I think Verizon was Bell Atlantic which was ATT in the southeast

      Buy, not but. Everyone had the exact same landline phone. I think it came in black and white or beige.

      AT&T had the nickname Ma Bell because before they were AT&T they were Bell Telephone.

      Makes a ton of sense and is actually a funny name. I remember those days but just never heard my parents refer to it as that. Thanks for your time and interest 🙌✌

      Thank you! Is there something further that that hashtag represents (besides the obvious)?
