Those wrestling toys were actually licensed by AWA (American Wrestling Association). Hard to find out of the upper Midwest. The AWA was on ESPN all the time in the 80's.
i personally rhink Remco made some great figures..Love the AWA and the Monsters.
Remco toys are back in business with new products
🤓 Apparently #JakksPacific acquired #REMCO in 1997 so if there are Remco-branded toys out there, probably just Jakks Pacific using the name for nostalgia, like how Hasbro does for some of the toy companies it took over.
The Remco Monster figures are the coolest ones to me, really like vintage and retro horror based stuff.
No talk about Sgt Rock?
You're slackin'!!
Crystar rocked!
Hasbro has at least some access to the Crystar brand cause they just made a Legends figure if the main guy. They should’ve done a whole wave of them. I need Ogeode.
When I was growing up, I had three types of Remco toys: 1) AWA wrestling on ESPN. I had the Road Warriors Hawk and Animal and also Ric Flair. They were all in AWA before going to NWA / WCW / WWF (WWE).
2) Warlord (I had Warlord and Arak. Warlord is based on the DC comic book, specifically the original 133 issue Warlord series from 1976 till 1988 which was highly critically acclaimed and has one of the most emotional endings in the history of comics.
3) I had the Mighty Crusaders (I had the Shield and the Comet. They are superheroes from the Archie / MLJ comics company and the Remco toys were based on Archie's early 1980's Red Circle line of superhero comics featuring Shield, Comet, Black Hood, The Web, Mighty Crusaders, etc.
Those comics did NOT do well (as a result, the action figures didn't either).
It didn't help that the actions figures looked horrible (their faces don't look correct).
Honestly, the only time the Archie / MLJ superheroes have ever done well financially was during the early 40's when they were on the same level of popularity as early DC and early Marvel (Timely) superheroes. After the mid 40's they declined HARD in popularity and despite numerous attempts at comebacks throughout each decade they never could become relevant again and are eternally doomed to being irrelevant for the remainder of time because Archie / MLJ management has no clue what to do with them. With that said, I LOVED the early 1990's Impact comics versions of the Archie / MLJ superheroes, despite those comics not selling. My favorite was the early 1990's Black Hood comic from the Impact comics line).
Road Warrior Hawk and Animal originated in the NWA at GCW Ole Anderson put them together. They caught fire in the AWA before returning to the NWA in 85-86. Ric Flair did start in the AWA, but quickly was sent to the NWA in 1974 at Vern Gagne's suggestion. Flair often came back and did matches in the AWA, but was never in their employment again. During the territory days different territories would host other wrestlers from other companies. Vince Sr. often traded Andre out for other stars to come make appearances in his WWWF and later just WWF.
I do remember those monster books. Top thing taken out in the elementary school library.
Glad other people remember the Crestwood monster books. It was the same in my grade school library. It was the first place on the book shelves that many of us boys went to in the school library. My friends and I would trade off every week-for example Dan you take Dracula this week, Brian you take Frankenstein, I'll take Godzilla, next week we will switch off. Unless of course someone in another class got to the books first. These books were so popular that they were eventually banned from being taken out since it was all a bunch of us boys wherever interested in.
@@billgrindler4653 Exactly my experience. I always wondered why they suddenly disappeared. I just assumed someone took them out and never brought them back, but they could have banned them too.
Remco was awesome! Warlord and Mighty Crusaders were my favorite
I loved my monster figures and case. I got them for Christmas one year and played with them constantly.
Junkman: Remember the Iron Sheik?
Me: Of course!
Junkman: ...he used to pee his pants!
Me: Yeah, those were the good ol' da-- Wait, what?!
Haha! Yeah, @benrositas8068 , I must've missed that time when it happened, probably when he was facing Andre the Giant or Jake the Snake? 😁
Have you ever heard of Ebay??!! 😅
Remco karate kid tournament mat is a piece of cardboard with a cloth cover
I loved this video. I have a couple of Remco Monster figures but it can be difficult to find items on the secondary market here in the UK.
I love Remco. I've just started collecting the warrior beasts MOTU knockoffs and I plan to start the lost world of the warlord. Also the AWA wrestling figures from 1985 are my favorite wrestling figures from the 80s
Freakin LOVED remco Toys!
Their late-70s monsters line is all I remember besides really cheap transforming robots.
Speaking of odd toys you should do one on "inhumanoids" that line was amazing and it bombed so quickly.
@mattmc5069 , yeah, I remember the cartoon was part of #SuperSunday , which also featured the cool-but-forgotten #Robotix cartoon (their toyline by Milton Bradley was a little pricey, as I recall), but most famous of the toon lineup was, of course, #JemandtheHolograms .... Good times! 🎉
@@adlad75 I liked Jem too even though I'm a guy lol that's the most 80s cartoon ever with the fashions and all
@@mattmc5069 , Same feeling here! Also, Christy Marx is an incredible storyteller who basically created the entire Jem lore. 🤓
Her writing and creative work were featured on "various television series including Jem, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Conan the Adventurer, G.I. Joe, Hypernauts, and Captain Power." 👍
@@adlad75 I remember my wife recently showed me some of her barbie stuff she had a Corvette with a real radio inside I was a little jealous lol
@@mattmc5069 Having a sister and many girls in our friend circle, I was interested in any toy item, back in the day. Kinda sad how many kids aren't into toys like we were.
I love Remco AWA figures . I have a lot of them on display
Same here! I need five more figures to complete the collection.
No Sgt. Rock or "The Bad Guys"? 🤑
I LOVED the AWA remco figures!!! Those were my favorites.
Yes, I loved those when I was a kid and I still love them today. I almost own the entire collection.
I had the thunderlips (hulk hogan) and ring ,black with yellow ropes, super cool!!Awesome memories
I loved them tabletop hockey games.
I wouldn't mind having some of the Karate Kid stuff. The alley and dojo set looks pretty cool. Thanks, Junkman! I didn't realize all the cool stuff Remco made.
Ralph Machio owns all of the remco toys from his movies,he even appeared on Comic Book Men to buy a variant of the tournament ring.he even owns the yellow from from the movie
Back in grade school my friends second cousin on his stepfathers side almost choked too death on a plastic disk from a Remco Star Trek gun
That's not good! 😬
I'm not really into hand puppets, but I loved those Universal Monsters hand puppets and, of course, the Monster figures.
The Star Trek role play set was pretty awsome.
Looked good, plus the phaser shot discs!
Thanks for the video
One year we got that awa wrestling ring with ljn king kong bundy and ljn Hillbilly jim
The whole ring was in a pile of broken thin plywood and ropes within one day
That sounds about right. Those AWA rings were definitely not compatible with the WWF figures, especially King Kong Bundy. 😄
Remco had the American wrestling association license not wwe
I found the ring aprons in with some old Christmas Decorations a few years back. I got Jerry The King Lawler sign it at a minor league baseball stadium.
I remember having the Remco USS Enterprise. It was on a wire and "flew" in a circle and could pick up stuff with a hook on it. It was fun for about 15 minutes, and that was about it.
I wish I had bought that monster stuff. I was always into the universal monsters and checked those books out of library so many times! I had that cool bat copter too.
I also would check out Universal Monsters books from the library when I was a kid. Those movies are the main reason why I'm such a horror movie fanatic today. Unfortunately, I never had any of the Remco Universal Monsters figures though. 😔
The universal monster toys and playset is valuable.both sizes had the monsterizer, the small ones had the carry case playset.
Didn't know the figures went that high. Remco licensed stuff -- Lost in space, Voyage and rarer Star Trek and other tv toys go much higher -- if you can find them now. Glad you showed stuff with actual bids.
I love remco and Kenner toys!!
I had so many of the crappy wrestling figures.
I would have paid $500 easy for that batcopter and new??? What a steal
It might be fun to look at Ronco products like the pocket fisherman.
OMG, the Alan Alda clip!
You're a cool dude.
I'm a big fan of the AWA, Lost World Of The Warlord and Mighty Crusader figures. Unfortunately, I was never able to get my hands on the Universal Monsters figures. I'll definitely add those to my collection eventually.
I sold my Crystar figure on ebay in the 90s or 00s. It was complete with the cardback. I don't think it went over $100 but I remember it doing really well. It was a cool figure too, but I wanted to focus on Star Wars, so I sold it.
I still have 2 pairs of the road warriors figures and 1 warlord
@That Junkman When Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri (The Iron Sheik) was alive and in his prime. You definitely wouldn't want to say to him face to face '' Hey, I remember when you used to pee you're pants''! That was an action figure of "Sheik Adnan Al-Kaissie". AKA General Adnan, AKA Billy White Wolf. Who was a heel manager in the AWA during that period.
From 1985-1986 Remco produced a line of action figures based on wrestlers from the (AWA) American Wrestling Association. Not WWF/WWE...The then WWF Wrestling Superstars toy line was produced by LJN during that time. {The Masked Marauder}? The box art for Remco's AWA (All Star Wrestling ring) depicted The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal) vs The Fabulous Ones (Stan Lane and Steve Keirn). "The Masked Marauder" was a name that was used by several different pro wrestlers going as far back as the 1920s. Mainly within the old regional territories. There was no Masked Marauder in the AWA at that time. And there certainly wasn't one in the WWF who feuded with "Hulk Hogan"
"Loki"...Remember that Loki show? Yeah, because it's still on the air! Were you feeling under the Weather when you made this video?
sure wish i had hung on to my Universal Monsters
i had 'em ALL, too / =
Phantom of the paradise with Paul Williams and most likely where Lucas got the idea for darth Vader’s suit
I was at the mall earlier & these girls started coming on to me. Things were going well until they started talking trash about Remco. I was like nuh-uh, red flag city. They made quality products that are still in great demand. G'day ladies.
Pretty sure they were just luring me into a trap to take my other kidney. Ha ha, not again. Thanks Remco!
😅 Nice.
That'll learn 'em.
They might've been shit testing you so early in the game. :)
Smart man
🤣😂🤣
Man I cannot remember the last time I heard someone reference wolfman Jack great job man
Loved those monster books
I liked remco warlord figures I had a few and made them part of my heman universe. And you didn't take enough time to research about the wrestling fires they made.
Remco made trucks in the 90s.
Remco was cool
I only own 1 remco toy in my collection, 1950’s remco movieland drive in with a beaten up box. Interesting thing to have around
That is a cool one
I love some knockoff GI Joes .Joes was2.50 they was a buck and a quarter
That dc line was not made at that scale again. Warlord and Deimos are Heroclix but the other characters havent been redone since
Too bad Remco didn't make Hee Haw figures! Lol. Good reference for the Grand Ole Opry! 😅
i wish
LOL......that was my Crystar Figure! lol
A lot of famous wresters got their start in the AWA.
The REMCO wrestling toys from the 80's were actually better than the WWF big, hard plastic ones. The main reason was you could actually play with the Remco figures. You couldn't do much with the WWF figures.
I don't think they go for hundreds, but I wonder if ManTech is decently valuable. They were modular toys so maybe lots of parts got lost or broken over the years. Maybe complete ones go for good money?
I had a few Crystar figures and Karate Kid. I need to correct my comment about LJN now. I thought Karate Kid was made by LJN. Oops 🤣
Phantom of the grand ole opry , hahhahahahahha, good one, it might be Ernest Tubb or Tom T. Hall ...........
All star Rassling ring
Like the vids-how do you find the time?
No life
Junkman, God knows I love your vids.
But,,,,
"I never heard of the AWA" - Junkman
Has Jerry Lawler and Andy Kauffman figures on the shelf behind him. - also Junkman
Hahahaha Junkman you trollin bruh
Remco toys ? Once again never had any
I still have my AWA wrestlers and my Karate Kid figures.
Where's the hate coming from?
Hate??
@@ThatJunkman My bad good sir, thought the video was going in a different direction when I wrote that.
Do you collect any modern toys?
Not really anymore. To pricey
They didnt make wwf toys they made awa and nwa related toys
Love NWA! I need a Easy E figure by Remco
@@ThatJunkman😄
No figure is worthless people are😅!!!!
If current companies like Super 7 and the likes are making current figures based on the horror line, yeah then the original stuff ain’t crap.
