I came her for Sun-Man. A cool vintage line with a heartwarming origin story, just a shame that 4 of the figures never made it passed the prototype phase. But thanks to Olmec Toys partnering up with Mattel to add Rulers of the Sun Characters to the Masters of the Universe Origins toy line, Kikto, Duplico, Hypno, and Zap-Man finally have the presence on toy collectors' shelves that they deserve.
Not a collector but growing up in the 80s and 90s my parents never really bought me toys and I find myself always watching these toy videos on UA-cam all the time. This channel is by far the best in the “UA-cam toys history” videos, it’s the closest thing to Netflixs show “toys that made us”. I use to work in film production and I appreciate the production value, the research, and solid writing. Good job dude, keep it up and I’m sure you’ll eventually get picked up by some network somewhere.
Woah thanks so much 🤓 there’s a couple channels that do it way better than me like the toys that made us but also justice cury’s amazon show “plastic Crack”, pixel dan, toy galaxy, retroblasting and laura legends are all such great content creators i look up to
Never would I have guessed that the cheesy skull headed guy with a glitter filled torso my aunt got me for christmas one year would have been considered collectible...
Here in Mexico we have a massive knock offs, some of them even more “valuable” than the original piece, and so much hard to find it. I have a little collection of knock offs and they are my favorites
Ed's Retro Geek Out yeah! Rodrigo it’s a great guy, i did a few business with him, he have an amazing collection, he has some retractors here in Mexico, pretty much all of them are resellers that ask way way more than the normal price and Rodrigo put them on their place.
I'm a transformer collector...but as a kid. He-Man, G.I.Joe and Star Wars were my toy box filler. I never got into collecting He-Man, just because of this reason. So many knockoffs and very little info due to no internet back then. I just bought most of the Mega Construx motu figures and sets. Gotta be honest it's rekindled that flame a little that I might try and collect motu, but some of these KOs are looking cool too. Thanks for giving me a little insight on ko world of the masters.
2:30 Skull Man! My favourite! I miss him! 2:34 Guana! My first ever MOTU-like figure! 5:22 Kobra! I still (barely) have him in one piece! 9:30 I had a very similar skull with clear chest filled w/water and glitters - or was that one? Water finally leaked out.
My family would all get together for new years and exchange Christmas gifts with family that didn't live close together. When I was a kid, Voltron was huge. That year I and my cousins got a LOT of knock off Voltron toys. There was one of 5 motorcycles that combined into a robot. I got 3 or 4 of those that year. From what I remember, it was actually a decent figure when combined.
Grab a beer, throw yourself in the couch, Ed's here with some Toy History. Just when I thought 'the toys that made us' was cool... Fantastic series. Again amazing research. And that Castle looked really weird and cool!
I used to have a couple of the speclatron figures when I was a little kid, back then I didn't know they weren't just odd MOTU figures. Glad to see someone mention them.
Yet another interesting and educational Toy History lesson Ed! The only Knock Off toy I remember getting and still have is a Shockwave G1 Transformers that I got in Hungary back in the day. Looks exactly like the original apart from the slight colour difference and different packaging of course that has nothing to do with Transformers, but in both robot and gun mode has the same light and sound effects. And I still have this in my collection and it still works! Funny enough I never ended up getting an "original" G1 Shockwave. Maybe time to add the "real one" to the collection...?
I remember when I was five and my mom asked me what I wanted for christmas and I said I want he-man, she replied is that the buff blonde dude wearing only his underwear, I said yeah that's the one, behold I ended getting hulk hogan instead of he-man hahahaha, I suppose is a very valid confusion
Kids these days don't know how amazing it was for Toy's back then, growing up in the 80's going to the Toy stores like Toy's R Us was huge, just PACKED full of action figures and vehicles like some of the pictures in this video. Seeing all those GI Joe figures and vehicles hits me in the nostalgia feels. Thankfully as a kid I got pretty much all the figures I wanted, I pretty much had everything you could think of. It's just sad we don't have stores like this anymore and never will again.
Man that brings back memories I remember my father buying me so many knock-offs it's used to piss me off as a kid so Thanks for the Memories man I still have a lot of those Masters of the Universe knock-offs figures and the real figures of He-Man and Masters of the Universe as well.
Wow. I had that Sungold devil skeleton guy (at 5:50)! Lost a long time ago and completely forgotten about until now. Wow. I remember seeing so many of those generic Sungold knockoffs throughout my childhood. They just used whatever heads they felt like putting on that body! I recall troll doll heads, various monsters, etc.
Really interesting and colorful video. I found it fascinating. I grew up during this time and had no inkling those other ones even existed, besides the DC characters. Also the room you're shooting in looks like a paradise. I remember going to a Toys r' us later and someone complaining about all the pvc. The smell oddly always cheered me up and made me nostalgic for all the good parts of my childhood. Thanks for the memories and knowledge bomb.
great stories about the 5.5 figures. I loved collecting MOTU toys growing up and I'm sure I have a knock off in my collection, I'll have to take a look and send you pic ha. This series is really awesome Ed and I can see if taking off big for you. Keep up the great work

Spot on🤗..i remember in mid 80's here where i am MOTU used to be only 7 bucks and what a great price..but alas i am still in junior school and can only afford to save money to buy a He-Man...Sungold Galaxy Warriors were only 3 bucks and sold side by side with Motu..needless to say mum only bought for us those GW..😊
Thanks for making this video, I didn't realize how many Warlord action figures I owned as a kid. Deep down I knew they weren't MOTU, but I still paired them up in epic battles.
I had that sword at 7:36! All these years I thought it was a genuine He-man sword. Alas, I now learn it was a knockoff. A little piece of my childhood just slipped away.
-I've spent hours watching Phelous showing off the various knock-offs of Galaxy Warriors and their spin-offs, which he's nicknamed "The Galaxy Hole." -And now you show us other galaxies! -The Sun God figures looked so good! -So, what happens when you push the back of the Speclatrons? Is it like a pump mechanism that makes the glitter move about?
WOW I caught a flash back.Hey I had that sunman action figure the muscle pig man.My pops bought it thinking it was a He-man toy.I ain't care he blended well with my toys.Thx so much Ed be safe be blessed take care everyone.
That was pretty cool. It would be awesome if you do something similar with tmnt and its "inspired" lines like the fighting frogs, the Street sharks, the samurai pizza Cats,... Or a video of Ed about his knock-off James McAvoy 😁😁😁
Awesome video! There was a toy company called Soma that made knock off MOTU figures as well as knock-off power rangers and more. I never had any of these figures as a kid, but if I ever come across any, I'd pick them up. The only thing of theirs I had were tiny 2" vinyl figurines of pirates, ninjas, and robots.
I think I still have a surviving Galaxy Warrior brown wolfman knock-off doll action figure bootleg whatever somewhere. I had a few of them back in the day along with MOTU and TMNT long gone murdered toys 😣
Ed's Retro Geek Out : I recall that when My Uncle returned home to Texas from Baltimore, He brought this magnificent beast to Me along with a Gold colored 3 headed dragon and a Battle Rhino; both wearing saddles and bearing the same straw berry air freshener scent as the Winged Lion Man . It was 1985 : Video game graphics had not evolved well enough to replace the artistic construction of Our beloved action figures.
Holy shit, I cant front I totally didn't expect you to cover Sun-Man, I was ready to comment about that line because it was so impactful on me and my brothers/friends.

The orange dor-mei ankylosaurus could be seen in Terminator 2 (inside the offices of Cyberdyne,) I noticed because mine was sitting on my TV back then!

Two toy lines stand out to me with being subject to myriad knockoffs; Transformers and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. So many companies brought out transforming vehicles and twelve inch dolls with similar points of articulation(fingers, multiple points in each appendage, swiveling joints with a ball bearing). I don’t really recall a lot of others that didn’t have their own cartoon or comic book associated.
Ed's Retro Geek Out what’s crazy is I looked into it and some of the knock offs in the US were rebrands from other Sentai shows that the companies must have licensed on the cheap.
Hi, As a life long fan of the original 'He-Man' line, i do remember there being knock off's, as 'Power Ranger's' did too i had Tommy the Green/white ranger :)
@@EdsRetroGeekOut as it was, you included the Speclatron line, which I'd never heard of. I'm always amazed that no one picked up the Thundarr the Barbarian license to make a MOTU knockoff. That would have been incredible.

9:24 Haven't I seen that character in a major fantasy film or comic?
Cool video brotha ...channel is growing nicely 👌🏼
Thanks 🤓
So is the Earth Force line also considered a 5.5 toy line?
Never heard of it will check it out 🤓🤘
Man when I was a kid I never saw any of these knockoffs. I feel like I truly missed out.
They look pretty sweet some of them 🤓👌
Hi, As a life long fan of the original 'He-Man' line, i do remember there being knock off's, as 'Power Ranger's' did too i had Tommy the Green/white ranger :)
Power rangers had a lot of weird ko’s 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yes, i'm sure, :)
Holy schnikes...😮...It has glitter...🤯
Indeed 🤣🤣🤣
Kind of surprised that you left out the Blackstar line. And Remco's Pirates of the Galaxseas.
There a lot i left out i could probably do a volume 2 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut as it was, you included the Speclatron line, which I'd never heard of.
I'm always amazed that no one picked up the Thundarr the Barbarian license to make a MOTU knockoff. That would have been incredible.
I love bootleg,knock off and innapropriate toys!!😂❤😊
Theyr'e just so freaking hilarious!!😮😂❤
