These knock- offs were the kind of toys you could find at fairgrounds during the 80's.
Sweet 🤘
I remember when I was five and my mom asked me what I wanted for christmas and I said I want he-man, she replied is that the buff blonde dude wearing only his underwear, I said yeah that's the one, behold I ended getting hulk hogan instead of he-man hahahaha, I suppose is a very valid confusion
I do get that tough i wouldn’t know paw patrol from other dogtype toys for my kids if i wasn’t so into toys 🤓
Ed's Retro Geek Out hahahaha i know exactly what you mean hahahaha
Sad!
Lol sounds like a good crossover.
My family would all get together for new years and exchange Christmas gifts with family that didn't live close together. When I was a kid, Voltron was huge. That year I and my cousins got a LOT of knock off Voltron toys. There was one of 5 motorcycles that combined into a robot. I got 3 or 4 of those that year. From what I remember, it was actually a decent figure when combined.
Some of the ko’s were actually really good 🤓🤘
I came her for Sun-Man. A cool vintage line with a heartwarming origin story, just a shame that 4 of the figures never made it passed the prototype phase. But thanks to Olmec Toys partnering up with Mattel to add Rulers of the Sun Characters to the Masters of the Universe Origins toy line, Kikto, Duplico, Hypno, and Zap-Man finally have the presence on toy collectors' shelves that they deserve.
Would love the get the vintage bad guy
Here in Mexico we have a massive knock offs, some of them even more “valuable” than the original piece, and so much hard to find it. I have a little collection of knock offs and they are my favorites
The stuff mad hunter show is always amazing 🤩
Ed's Retro Geek Out yeah! Rodrigo it’s a great guy, i did a few business with him, he have an amazing collection, he has some retractors here in Mexico, pretty much all of them are resellers that ask way way more than the normal price and Rodrigo put them on their place.
Spot on🤗..i remember in mid 80's here where i am MOTU used to be only 7 bucks and what a great price..but alas i am still in junior school and can only afford to save money to buy a He-Man...Sungold Galaxy Warriors were only 3 bucks and sold side by side with Motu..needless to say mum only bought for us those GW..😊
Great vid! Loved the old knock offs! Convertors were my Favorite!
Ill look into those 🤔
MOTU bring good memories to me ..... congrats to the video. Stay safe
Thanks so much 🤘🤓
Holy shit, I cant front I totally didn't expect you to cover Sun-Man, I was ready to comment about that line because it was so impactful on me and my brothers/friends.
The whole Olmec corp story is pretty interesting and the sunman figures are some of the best quality and imaginative wise in the motu ko galaxy 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Well thanks for the awesome and informative video, I enjoyed it
yeah, I remember seeing some these toys at the dollar and discount stores back when I was a kid.
Awesome 🤠
Definitely my fav toy history video so far! Keep em comin dude!
Thanks so much buddy 🤓🤘
Love the videos friend. Entertaining and informative. It's clear you love what you do. Keep up the incredible work.
Thanks so much for watching 🤓🤠
great stories about the 5.5 figures. I loved collecting MOTU toys growing up and I'm sure I have a knock off in my collection, I'll have to take a look and send you pic ha.
This series is really awesome Ed and I can see if taking off big for you. Keep up the great work
Send me a pic dude 🤓🤘
Amazing video! Thanks
Thanks for watching 🤓 I enjoy your vids!
Time to sell the house so I can get a Speclatron figure.
🤔theres 2 on ebay for 1400$
@@EdsRetroGeekOut yeah my wife totally wont kill me
I had four of them as a kid. All long gone. Yet another reason I'd like to go back in time and slap my younger self in the face.
@@Kai0nTheMoon 😆 I had the swimming tmnt for Xmas their 1st year out cuz No one anywhere had the nonswimming tmnt figures. I remember being upset but still thankful for them. Today now it's a ton easier to get the tmnt figures but no one I talk to remembers the swimming tmnt figures! Lol how much would they go for now you think? My older brother and I had the swimming donatello and swimming Leonardo. (We eventually got all the figures from the first set but it took 2 years.) I bet my parents was sick of ninja turtles lmao.
Great! Another video! Thanks for making my childhood revival. Again im glad to be here and watch your channel grow! Love love love the content!
Thanks so much for watching 🤓🤘
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Wow....This video series you are doing is incredible. Keep up the hard work and I will keep watching. JUICY STUFF!!!!
Thanks buddy 🤓
Thanks for making this video, I didn't realize how many Warlord action figures I owned as a kid. Deep down I knew they weren't MOTU, but I still paired them up in epic battles.
Thanks for watching 🤓
Thanks ,nice post.I love hearing about these figs.I collect boots , k/o,s , and shoddy look-alikes.Mostly DC/Marvel stuff.
Thznks for watching 🤓🤘
Holy schnikes...😮...It has glitter...🤯
Indeed 🤣🤣🤣
I once saw the greatest knock off ever. It was a Super Powers figure of the Hulk but they used Kingpin's body. For some reason they gave him hair, but being an 80s figure it was frizzy.
So it was a pot bellied afro'ed Hulk. So majestic.
🤣🤣🤣 whaat i gotta look that up!
@@EdsRetroGeekOut sadly I can't find it now. It was on an old toy bootleg site from the 90s
Really interesting and colorful video. I found it fascinating. I grew up during this time and had no inkling those other ones even existed, besides the DC characters. Also the room you're shooting in looks like a paradise. I remember going to a Toys r' us later and someone complaining about all the pvc. The smell oddly always cheered me up and made me nostalgic for all the good parts of my childhood. Thanks for the memories and knowledge bomb.
Thanks for watching 🤓 been collecting for 12 years so the room is getting pretty packed . I have a room tour vid up as well
Love this video :) i remember birthdays where my family would buy knock-offs, and still loving it ;)
Thanks buddy 🤘🤓
Wow. I had that Sungold devil skeleton guy (at 5:50)! Lost a long time ago and completely forgotten about until now. Wow. I remember seeing so many of those generic Sungold knockoffs throughout my childhood. They just used whatever heads they felt like putting on that body! I recall troll doll heads, various monsters, etc.
Yeah those were the days 🤩
I wish I could collect the Galaxy Warriors/Galaxy Fighters and Galaxy Adventure Girl figures.
I also kinda liked “Defenders of the Planets”.
Defenders of the planets were high quality i added some since this video 🤓
Wow, I’m so happy that I grew up in the generation, when kids had a strong imagination and we played with these awesome toys!
Indeed 🤘🤠
Yes, me too.. It was Awesome
Your merch looks excellent, great video as well. Def going to catch up on your work
Thanks 🤓🤘
Sunman & his villainous enemy Pighead! 😆 that's on-brand marketing!
I like those figures 🤠
I think I still have a surviving Galaxy Warrior brown wolfman knock-off doll action figure bootleg whatever somewhere. I had a few of them back in the day along with MOTU and TMNT long gone murdered toys 😣
Wolfman 🤘
Love the video MOTU is my primary collection love any figure base of my favorite line
Motu 🔥🤘
@@EdsRetroGeekOut 😁🤘
Hahahaha! Yessss, great vid, I want a spook chasers now 👻
I want them too 🤠🤘
Wow man. Great videos. I never knew there were so many knock offs. I really really dig the guys with the snow globe torso. Wish I had some myself.
Thanks for watching!
Hi, As a life long fan of the original 'He-Man' line, i do remember there being knock off's, as 'Power Ranger's' did too i had Tommy the Green/white ranger :)
Power rangers had a lot of weird ko’s 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Yes, i'm sure, :)
You had me at "knock off toys"! Great stuff as always Ed.
Thanks so much buddy 🤘
This channel is the perfect toy channel love it! :)
Thanks 🤓
You are very welcome Ed. 😃
I remember seeing knock off megaman X toys in Mexico which were done really nice and will changeable armor
I think the best megaman toys are ko’s 🤘🤓
My favorites are TURLY GANG which were TURTLE action figures in the MOTU style.
Indeed 🤠🤘
I had some of those knockoffs. Some weren't bad. I'd just use them with my He-Man toys
Some really gave motu a run for their money 🤠
He-guy and the masters of the Galaxy!! I would call my bootlegs that XD whaha ;p
Awesome 😁👌
Great video man
Thanks 🤓
I kinda like Sun-Man and Pig Head. They fit right in with MOTU and Sun-Man feels somebody who would've fought alongside King Greyskull
There was another by Remco that was more a take on Centurions called Mantech and my brother and I had a few. They were pretty solid as toys went with the whole interchangeable gimmick extending to body parts too that could fit into the vehicles and base.
Ill look into that 🤓🤘
@@EdsRetroGeekOut another one is the Corps. A knockoff of GI Joe that I know isn't the only one but I think it's still in production.
80’s knockoff toys are genuinely my favorite thing. I collect knockoff kaiju and dinosaur toys (Imperial, Dor-Mei, etc.). Imperial Dragons are my lifeblood lol. I’d take a weird knockoff over an official any day.
The orange dor-mei ankylosaurus could be seen in Terminator 2 (inside the offices of Cyberdyne,) I noticed because mine was sitting on my TV back then!
90s he man figures classic ✊
Iconic!
Imagine if sungold went into real estate , " house including windows to provide daytime lighting, doors for entry and exit and rooms pre hollowed out creating space inside
Vintage FOREVERRR!!!😎💙
Vintage! 🤘🤘🤘
You gotta love people who call muscular action figures dolls 😎. What are vehicles then? Space baby carriages?
🤣🤣👌
They are lots of knock off toys. 😀👍
Tooo many 🤩
NOW Officielle *You* are my absolute Favorite(International) UA-camr! THX for that awesome content every Week👍 #LoveThat80sShit✊ #BestRetroChannel 🔝
Thanks so much 🤘🤓
Knock offs are great
Im trying to find one of the greatest knock offs of all time.... RobertCop! The furniture of law enforcement!.... Yes that would be FURNITURE not future....
Robertcop is the best one out there still can’t believe it ain’t an obvious plant 🤣
Great stuff!
Thanks 🤓
Man when I was a kid I never saw any of these knockoffs. I feel like I truly missed out.
They look pretty sweet some of them 🤓👌
Just seen the fact you only have 12K subs adn 17K views on this vid, WTF WTF WTF????? Your videos are great, high quality, good sound, likeable personality... Your gonna be big i can tell you that. I would of expected at least 100k views & subs here, most likely 250k or more. Damn.
I've liked and subbed because i want your channel to grow nice and big! Peace brother :)
Thanks i guess it will grow if i can keep it up and get better 🤓 it’s awesome that people are finding the channel more easily
I need to know what my cousin had when we were kids..it was a rhino with a pink harness and fit masters of the universe figs..been wanting to find that toy ever since
Oh boy, the Galaxy Hole!
Just whatever you do, stay away from Baltard...
I like the snake head guys 🤘🤓
I love these and still have many of my originals. Zolo World has done a homage series based on Remco & others, and they are great,
They look awesome indeed 🤠
Definitely looking for starman
Awesome 🤓
I saw an eco monster castle on ebay just now.!
Btw, you should do a vid about these knockoff lines, galaxy fighters and defenders of the planets. I thought these were much nicer figures than some motu and some of them should have been used in the motu line, like strongarm/weaponsmaster(in stead of ramman)/Quazar/Canis major/Iguana/Dinoman/ and some more :-)
Cool ill look into that 🤓
Sunman is super cool. I found out about it when someone gave me a Pighead figure as a gift. Olmec Toys was based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The same place as Black Wallstreet and where the race massacre happened, that's finally being talked about.
I like the colors on those figure so nicely done 🤓🤘
I seeing remember most of these toys at a toy store called Child World in the early to mid 80s
Sweet 🤘
Child World/Children's Palace had a weird way of rotating stock so you could buy old toys dirt cheap years after they were first marketed.
Anyone here after seeing there’s gonna be some new Sun-man stuff coming announced at Power-Con?
Great stuff mate!!
Thanks buddy 🤘🤓
Watching for motu records and comics for your collection...
I think I have comics and some 7inches 🤓🤘
9:37
For MAGIC ACTION press hole in back and he will become POWERGIZED INVINCIBLE READY FOR ACTION
WOW
🤯🦄
I have a sort of related question that someone may be able to help me with. I had a play set when I was a kid in the 1980s that no one seems to be able to identify. I wanted castle grey skull but my aunt bought me something similar but it had a gold colored snake hear “truck” that you could fire out of the front of the snake like castle. I know this is vague, I can’t find anything on google searches like this or anything else. I thought it may be D&D but nothing matches. Any ideas?
I use those knock off figures as jobbers aka cannon foddler for the villians use at the heroes
Awesome 🤓
Do you concider the Last Warriors figures to fit in the He Man bootleg category?
They seems to a bit pricey these days.
Hadn’t seen those before they look cool 🤘🤩
Dolls? DOLLS!!!!
Beware of Dolls
10:58 I still have the man with the curved sword and the chest protector with feather-ish shoulders. It has a phoenix like bird on the armor. I think I bought it or someone gave it to me as a gift around 1994 or 1995, but in those years the action figures everyone wanted was from the Conan The Adventurer's animated series so I think it wasn't just a He-Man knock off but just a generic barbarian warrior that could apply for everything in the genre. It's the first one that appears in the playset that shows on 9:57 and now that I remember it was totally a Conan knock off more than a He-Man knock off because the bad guys were based on reptiles and in Conan the bad guys were the snake men.
Edit: Investigating I just found out it's a figure from Sewco Galaxy Fighters, a Bootleg of Galaxy Warriors as it seems. The name of the character is Daton. Cool. Thanks to this video I just found out that I have a little treasure stored somewhere.
The galaxy of ko’s goes far and beyond 😅 working on a follow up and found even more bootlegged bootleg ko’s 🤪
@@EdsRetroGeekOut Well this is all new to me. I'm from Argentina, and we had a lot of this toys here but we were also more into anime, specially in the '90s. Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball were huge and opened the door to a lot more anime and of course, a lot more toys and a lot more ko's, specially in the first half of the '90s. As far as I know, and correct me if I'm wrong, anime didn't catch up in the US until a few years later. When I was 8 or 9 I spent my afternoons between Power Rangers, Ghostbusters, Saint Seiya and DBZ so now I can imagine how far it goes. It was (and still is) pretty usual find whole sets of 5 or 6 figures that had a mix of Super Sentai, DBZ, Sailor Moon and DC Comics characters.
Have you done a video on Battle Beasts yet?
No but i really like that line they had some ko’s in greece 🤩🤘
@@EdsRetroGeekOut well I'm still going to binge watch all of your videos. I was born in 1983 and your channel brings back so many memories I love it.
hey ed i got a question..@1:17 u play a small clip of what looks like a real life he-man battle with skellitor...what is that clip from or do you have any more info about it...i remember goin to see that IN PERSON as a kid with my folks in san francisco at the cow palace but i dont know what it was called..just that it was about he-man and my parents tellin me i was jumpin on top of my chair and yellin "i have the power"!!!hahahah
Masters of the universe power tour? 🤔
im not to sure but ima look that up thanks ed you DO know yo stuff!!✨✨🌟🌟🗡✨🌟✨✨
It's interesting to me knock offs like the effort put in just to be legally different enough. You don't really see that anymore. An original toy property taking off and others wanting to jump on that bandwagon. Maybe like some obscure MLP or Barbie knock offs, I may not know about. But I kinda wish that was a thing again even if just for the novelty chuckle in the aisle looking at it.
Powergized is the most 80s word ever
Agreed 🤓
Great video keep it up 👍
Thanks 🤓
I found a galaxy rider toy. It’s a trike. Thought it looked cool, I’m guessing it is a similar knock off?
Could be 🤓
I so want a Speclatron Dethlor. I have cool stuff from Argentina to trade in
Dethlor looks awesome doesn’t he 🤘
Are you guys doing a livestream today? Couldn't see that one is happening.
Nah skipping a week but we should have 1 this week 🤘🤘
I wish you can make a video talking about the Shadow Striker, love that toy line
I NEED ONE OF THE MONSTER CASTLES.
Isn't Sun Man part of MOTU?? I don't remember them as a kid But I saw some today in target on the same shelf as Masters of the Universe and it looks like they're from the same line.
I still got a few knock offs action figures from. The Dollar bill store from back in the 90s and broo im already 34 Years and i still got em.. bad ass durability i have play with thise figures si much they berly hace loose joints they look like heman bootlegs bit men o men they are pretty heavy my dad and mom bought me those figures and i remember the whole wall was full of them from the bottom to the floor all kinds of variety of colors head sculpts and body build totally different they even came with weapons i was like ill never finishe buying these and you know what was the kicker of this they were just 1 fuc... dollar... $1 a piece with
Awesome 🤘🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut hell yeah awesome 😎😎😎😍😍
I know I'm late to this video but how about knock offs of figures like Sectars.
Its true that those knock offs some times confused our parents, even though i asked from my father back in the day to bring me a freaking NES he bought this awful family game system! It looked like an snes though but he bought it anyway! While the game boy which my brother asked was fairly easier to spot perhaps? I don't know but this is an action figure isle right there and no consoles allowed!!! Still those knock offs are really cool as a whole i believe because it is true that some times they made some really cool stuff with those, and mattel probably feared not loose audience!
Oh damn 🤯
Holy shit, I think I had one of these.
Awesome 🤘
My all-time favorite KOs are of the Transformers dinobots, specifically this one of Sludge but he’s a brontosaurus with an alligator head and wings, marketed as “Prehistory Animal #3: Prontosaurus”.
www.toyarchive.com/Transformers/Knockoffs/Sludge1.html
He is freakin awesome! 🤩🤘
Galaxy warrior line is bad but phelous has done a whole series of videos on it. Also it’s insane ripoffs shown in videos are only start. They even ripped off she-ra. You have to see it to believe it. It’s crazy. I mean goes so far to include ripoffs of ninja turtles
Some of them are really bad indeed 🤓
Great video Ed! Did you know that Remco used those 5.5" sculpts for their AWA wrestling figure line?
Yesh indeed 🤘🤓
Hmm. I wonder how much it would cost to create my own toyline using knock offs...
🤔 indeed
I Have one speclatron demone cheers 🍻
Epic 🥳
so does that mean heman is a knock off of blackstar? hmm..
Cartoon is from 81 and toyline started in 83 so heman would come first and the monsters on blackstar have a similar piece of clothshaped pants 🤣
Comes here for the superb content.
Stays for just how damn cute Ed is :-)
Bootleg vs. Knockoffs? Not sure the definition indifference that you're saying. Knock-off can be identical is how I've thought of it. I like the Transformer Masterpiece knock-off scales. They're like almost exact replicas period. And better in some ways in my opinion. Some knockoffs versus bootlegs definition. Never thought of the two terms being different in most cases
If they look cool they’re all good by me! 🤘
You don't include the WWF Wrestling inspired in MOTU from the early 80's and the 2020's revival along the Funko's Savage World with franchises like Thundercats,Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and movie monsters also the Funko Primal Age with DC Cómics Characters whom didn't get the attention they really deserved and dissapear with only two waves and a lot of interesting ideas for Hawkman,Doomsday, Brainiac,Cheetah, Shazam and Black Adam all in a primitive, Medieval fantasy look.
There’s still a lot probably enough for a second video on the topic 🤓
@@EdsRetroGeekOut That sounds good! Hope you include the batcave funko was awesome Is like a Castle grayskull for the líne Is a giant bat in dark blue and three beast the wolf Ace, the Wargo Kripto and A Smiling purple Reptile for joker
Golden girls action figures by galoob was a knock off on she-ra
Princess of power
Oooh nice 🤠👌
Not a collector but growing up in the 80s and 90s my parents never really bought me toys and I find myself always watching these toy videos on UA-cam all the time. This channel is by far the best in the “UA-cam toys history” videos, it’s the closest thing to Netflixs show “toys that made us”. I use to work in film production and I appreciate the production value, the research, and solid writing. Good job dude, keep it up and I’m sure you’ll eventually get picked up by some network somewhere.
Woah thanks so much 🤓 there’s a couple channels that do it way better than me like the toys that made us but also justice cury’s amazon show “plastic Crack”, pixel dan, toy galaxy, retroblasting and laura legends are all such great content creators i look up to
That is sad 😢
Never would I have guessed that the cheesy skull headed guy with a glitter filled torso my aunt got me for christmas one year would have been considered collectible...
It’s the holy grail for motu ko collectors 😅🤘
i really want that mecha thomas the tank engine
james brooking who doesn’t want the mecha Thomas
I have one, think I got it on ebay or aliexpress, paid like $25 a few years ago. Plastics really cheap on it, it's exactly as bad as you would expect it to be... but at the same time its awesome
It looks so bad its gotta ve good!
It’s an awesome figure for KO collectors 👍🏽 It’s a bootleg of the “Loco Squad Commander” train combiner by Leader Shine (aka Champion Crown) who made all of those generic transforming robot dinosaurs, animals, insects, reptiles, etc in the 2000’s that kinda **looked** like Beast Wars but weren’t 😅 Aside from the Loco Squad, one of their best figures was the Appliance Robo combiner 😄 No lie, it was a refrigerator, TV, stereo, etc that combined into a big robot 😆 Some of my favorite KOs of my collection 😎
It's one of those figures which is so shitty you have to have it if you collect retro toys. Just like that 'Sense of right alliance' pack of superhero figures, which i think has Superman, Spiderman, 2 Power Rangers, Shreck and the car from Disney Cars. Fucking epppiiiccc
doll, action figure. same thing really. if you are being shamed for "playing with dolls" own it.
In Mexico they were everywhere in the late 80s and early 90s.....I remember buying huge 12 inch plastic figures
