I love how he gained tasteful imperfections in his playing. Like guys, I have already mastered the craft, now it's high time to leave the hand sync off here and there, or to add shitload of delay. I love this man
The planets aligned for me. Been listening to these gods for 32 years, I turn 50 in November, it's their 40th anniversary, Mike is back where he belongs, and I'm going to the last gig in their European tour in Amsterdam.
Oh, and I got the VIP package so I get to meet them.

His alternate picking technique has certainly changed over the years. Back in the day, it was all wrist and made it look effortless..
I noticed that too. He also uses much thicker picks now, 2.0mm instead of I think 1,3 or 1,4. He used to play a lot cleaner than he does now but he's still better than I'll probably ever be lol

He’s one of the nicest guys if you ever get the chance to meet him.
Back when the internet was becoming the obvious place for musicians to interact with fans he used to pop in on his forum and chat a bit. I remember being surprised at how terrible his grammar was. That and he used the girliest of emoticons. Emoticons was for the tech illiterate back then. :D
Dude had the online etiquette of a grandma and the grammer of a teenage boy that failed English. 😅

I love how Johnny P plays really melodically and then shreds it up he’s so good
His melodic playing sounds great, his shredding is just... well, shredding to me. I simply don`t like the sound of a billion notes per second being all played by picking.

Listen, I really like prog rock and prog metal, I've listened to stuff like Haken, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Genesis, Rush etc. It still doesn't mean I should be obliged to like every aspect of the genre. Do you call Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth a poser as well because he doesn't like to play these generic alternative picking "show-off" licks?

Genuinely don't know if I would have picked up guitar without listening to a LOT of Dream Theater. I love me some Haken and Periphery, maybe even more than DT, but Petrucci outmatches any other guitarist I've heard except maybe Tosin Abasi
