Had the pleasure to meet Doug and Jerry near the Gramercy theater two years ago they were so nice and friendly talked for a while and took pictures a day I’ll never forget
Fan since I bought Out of the Silent Planet in 1988. At the record store I thought the artwork looked cool so I brought it home and put it on the turntable. O.M.G.
That’s a lost niche of the music industry… buying an album because you liked the artwork. Thumbs up.
I bought a "Gretchen" cassette for the very same reason. "Huh, that's a pretty wild cover"...
Bought "Out of the Silent Planet" one day later. Seriously, went back to the store the very next day. They are that good... If they had more than 2 albums out at the time, I would have bought them all. Well, as many as I could have afforded back then anyway. Instantly hooked. Hadn't heard anything like "Over My Head". Blew me away.
Been here since Gretchen...ty for a lifetime of joy

I have been a fan King's X from the beginning. After all these years they still kick ass. They are my age and still phenomenal.
I keep hoping for that with bands I’ve loved forever, like Weezer, 311, and Foo Fighters. Something amazing about finding the right dudes, and sticking it out together. Drugs help, I’m guessing.

I saw these guys open for Billy Squire in 1988 at the California theatre in San Fransisco.
Pillow kicks so much ass. One of the heaviest songs ever written. Hearing the crowd sing the chorus is fantastic. Very cool show
His solo on nothin' but the truth is absolute fire!

All I can say is if you guys live 25 minutes from the show, perhaps it's now THE TIME they get into the band! (ha ha) My other point is after 437 concerts what's one more? Man, they are going to miss out, if they won't go by all means go by yourself--enjoy! So cool to see them kicking some serious ass as usual, what a show!

@@downboys Huh. Well, I've been listening to Kings X for about 35 years, and I am pretty sure he plays a 12 string bass on more than just a few songs. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska comes to mind.
I would conservatory estimate that at least half of King's X songs feature Dug playing a 12 string.

Also, you’re mistaking his 4 string for a 12 on a lot of the albums. He plays a 4 a lot on recordings but the tone is similar. Again, from the same interview:
Your 4-string sound is very identifiable. What do you think the 12-string does to your signature sound?
The 12 really sounds the same as my 4-strings tonally. I do use a chorus for the high end of the 12 sometimes. And sometimes heavy distortion that Monty Colvin (Galactic Cowboys) turned me on to. With my 12-string on the end of "It's Love" I kick in the distortion with the power chords with a chorus and it sounds like a Hammond B-3. Check it out.
He says no 12 string played at all on the Black Like Sunday album.
When you are writing, what is the main deciding factor in whether you use a 4 or 12-string on the track?

Poor guys work so hard and the sound engineers are not giving them good sound. They are having to struggle like an amateur bar band. They deserve better. But it's exactly why they still use real amps on stage. You can't trust sound engineers to give you good proper monitoring even though most are demanding silent stages. That was always my problem with silent stages. Never get quality sound and most of the time never hear yourself or anyone else clearly. Glad these guys are still rocking out and killing it.

Love this band, like they’re my favorite band of all time. But I gotta be real, clearly they’ve lost a few steps. Missing marks, not singing harmonies they did in years past. Slower etc. we’re all older, but it’s kinda sad. My memories of KX will be at their prime in 1994 at the Roseland in NyC and Stone Pony in Asbury.
@@misterreality Doug is almost 74, Jerry’s had 2 heart attacks and Ty is currently battling some kind of illness - possibly cancer. They get a pass for anything remotely considered a misstep.

I get that they are tuned down to benefit Dug but it takes away from some of the songs. Especially off the first 2 albums.

Great in tandom with Doug and awesome back up harmonies and epic guitar playing but when he tries to dominate a song, it’s a no go very similar to the band paw when their front man doesn’t sing, takes a step back things start to plummet
