I guess we're all friends now, right?!
More if you read the titles and album where are the riffs in the description 👍
Thanks for showing the best guitarist in favorite band ...Rick beato won't do him I don't know what the problem is with him thanks a lot Leon!!
@@dwightburns6699 Rick needs to show KX some love.
@@LeonTodd Moanjam... One of my favorites!!
Leon, you gotta check out the scunion on UA-cam, you'll dig it.
Kings x is the Rush of America. Pure, talent, pure awesomeness, and like rush really down to earth guys that love to play.
Unfortunately without much of the success which is sad and hard to understand
Yeah they are the most underrated rock band ever
YYYYEEEESSSSS !!!!! one of the most criminally underrated bands ever, and a the nicest bunch of guys ever
There is everything else, and then there is King's X.
I've been a fan since the first record.
Same here.
King's X is an absolutely incredible band on all levels!!!
I’ve always put Ty Tabor in the same group as Jerry Cantrell . Both are able to take seemingly simple riffs and create these mammoth songs (in my opinion anyway). Ty was another one of these guitarist that is just on a whole different plane than most. Great vid.
YES! Totally agree. Everyone has their preference for how a good riff sounds to me, and very few have the consistency I check for to win my loyalty. Jerry Cantrell, Ty Tabor, Tony Iomi, Kim Thaiyl, and the DeLeo brothers are in the top tier for me.
Well said.
Love Kings X. When I first heard the song “Over my head” with Dougs vocals and Ty’s guitar it was a holy shit moment and I was pulled in with their tractor beam and never to return.
Hahaha that's exactly what it feels like!
me too 😃
Same
That album has some of the best rock screams ever.
KingsX, the one band nobody else will ever sound like, no matter how hard they try. They were definitely in a class of their own in every way.
*Are
I commented on another video of yours to share the King's X love -- SO GOOD to see them getting mad respect from current generations of working musicians. I just popped in here to say I wish your buddy would show *me* how to play Lost In Germany, because I'm *still* butchering it with my incompetent boobery. :(
Totally correct statement right there mate.
I know the guitar tones and how they have a slow tempo but it still works so well
Honourable mention :
COMPLAIN. That song is straight up tough
I've got the chorus stuck in my head now!
"Ozone disappearing in the sky/
Bud man asking us, 'why ask why?'/
If I could find my magazine, this bug would die, I complain..."
Love King's X, songs like Black The Sky, Send A Message, Over My Head, Dogman and Flies and Blue Skies, Ty Tabor a very underrated player, with an awesome tone.
Absolutely love King’s X! They definitely had song’s that I remember exactly where I was when I heard each album. One of my all time favorite bands. Also, Summerland riff and solo is so killer.
I think the bass riff for "Black The Sky" is one of the nastiest riffs (cue the voice of Jeremy Clarkson) in the world. Thank you, Leon Todd. Checking out Ragdoll now... and not because of your multiple shameless plugs. Hahaha.
The bass parts and the bass tone is such an integral part of their sound, awesome stuff. Hope you enjoy the RD stuff!
Agreed. If I'm super pissed off, it's a go to!
They’ve been my favorite band since 1989. I live in Houston, TX and I’ve seen them on every tour they’ve done at least 40-50 times. Be sure everyone knows about the new record that’s be released early 2020.
Kings X is the most underrated band out there!!! Thanks for sharing this one!!
I agree and have felt that way for many years.
No, they are not.
Y'know it's heartening to see more love being given to King's X in recent years than before. It's also a little bittersweet that it hasn't come sooner for them. Hoping their new album could still get them some serious attention when it comes out next week!
The big picture is a great tune “golden rules in Sunday schools, it was my way rock n roll spiritual give me any day” I always felt that summed them up...I love the R&B influence with Kings X
*fist bump* Fellow King's X fan.
Mississippi Moon should have been a big enough hit that they could have bought the entire state of Mississippi. Flys and Blue Skys, just the way that it...envelops you. The entire Tape Head album. They're coming out with a new album soon. Can't wait.
Life Going By is probably the greatest album closing track in the history of history. That whole record was just DEEEEEP.
Can I join the fist bump? They literally healed me!
Amen!
Flies and Blue Skies...Makes me cry. There...I said it. lol. LOve King's X
They were going to put out Mississippi Moon but they chose not to in case it was their second hit without Doug singing lead after It's Love. They didn't tell Doug this at the time.
Went to see Adrenaline Mob in a small Glasgow club wearing my "First Church of Rock'n'roll' t-shirt. Got a thumbs up from Mike Portnoy. So a reminder that dUg guested vocals on Dteam Theater''s "Lines in the Sand". King's X are musicians' musicians.
Noice!! Kings X is a heavyweight trio, and Ty has always had a monster tone and cool riffs. They're the band all of us musicians were blown away by when they hit the scene! Thanks for giving them some love.
Seen them on the dogman tour at the park west Chicago , not only the playing but the vocals. Amazing
Cigarettes
That is exactly where I saw em during that tour. From up in the balcony. What show!
Only thing better than listening to King's X is seeing them live. They are incredibly tight and the rapport with the fans make it one of the best shows you'll ever see. Great job with the riffs!
I couldn't agree more. TIGHT is an understatement. Love them and I don't care who you are, to try to replicate there music is quite a chore and Ty's tone...
I’ve been a Kings X fan since the 80’s, saw them live many times... took my son to his first concert when he was 14, to see KX ... my son is now 31 and KX is STILL his favorite band. Ty’s guitar style is SICK!!
I absolutely love Kings X. Only got to see them twice. Thanks for doing this video. I'm checking out your band right away.
My pleasure! hope you enjoy the tunes :)
I always forget about King’s X, then when I listen to them again, I can’t figure out how they could ever be forgotten! Great job as always.
Self titled went under the radar? Daaaaaaamn...... There are more bangers on that 1 record than most groups come up with in their entire catalogues! It always amazed me that the record label made them release Black Flag as the single. Probably the weakest tune (and it's far from weak) on the record. Very proud of you for showing some love to the greatest "unknown" band in history. Rock on!! \m/ \m/
Prisoner!
Love that riff to bits 👍
So good!
That's 1 of my favorites also!
I'm from Brazil. King's X is one of my favorite bands. I've never seen them alive and probably never will though.
And because of them I've just found your band. Really enjoying. Loving rewind your mind. Cheers, mate.
Digo o mesmo que você, sou fan desde 93
Doug’s bass tone on the dog man album is what immediately blew me away especially on “pretend”, really completes their amazing sound.
So good. My favourite rock bass tone ever
Being from Houston have been a fan of these guys for quite some time. Completely original, heavy, beautiful harmonies, great songs and Ty is a monster!
Dogman came out when I was 14 and hearing Ty Tabor play on that album really changed me from a music fan to someone who wanted to play guitar. It was so heavy. I couldn't believe that was one guitar player. One of my favorites of the 90s.
The whole band was at their peak on that album, so much groove
Great picks for songs. You did a great job of mixing up the styles to show how diverse Ty's riffs are. Thanks for the post! Loved it
Great picks! Tabor really has his own way of writing riffs. Super inspiring!
You guys killed it. Love King's X! Great riffage!
Love King's X! Tye has some sick tone! Love his lead playing too, so full of soul. Thanks for the video.
When I was 16, a friend of mine loaned me Gretchen Goes to Nebraska. It was so different to anything else I had ever heard. I instantly liked it and proceeded to geek out on other releases from their catalog.
Now that's a true friend!
Love King's X...!!!
Tnx Leon for paying tribute to this great combo of fantastic musicians.
Hoping next album in 2020 will be a very good one ...!!!
King's X has been one of my favorites since they came out. Thanks for the vid Leon. I hit the subscribe!
I *just* finished reading "King's X - The Oral History" by Greg Prato. Highly recommended if you want to know more about their early days, how mainstream success eluded them even while they were playing shows to 200,000 people at woodstock, etc. It's a must-read for any KX fan. Also - I love this video, man!
I just love Ty Tabor’s style…his bends, his tone, everything about his jam.
How did I only just learn you did a King's X video!? Whenever I have an acoustic I play Summerland and people are always impressed and enamored with the riff. Great band and great video!
I never heard of them, but I know what my week is going to be now! They are so great!
Your in for a ride!
Amazing tones and riffs! King's X is awesome!
The best!
The first time I ever heard King's X was on MTV, it was the video for the song "King". Sometimes MTV would cut to commercials before you'd get a chance to see the bands name. I thought they were the coolest band ever from the instant the video started - and I was PISSED that I never found out the bands name. My new favorite band and I didn't even know their name. But eventually that video came on again; I found out their name and I've bought every album since.
My favorite memory is listening to Gretchen Goes to Nebraska on the way home from New Smyrna Beach south of Daytona . My 3 year old son was a little sun burnt and sacked out on my lap . We loaded a bunch of surfers and their boards in the back of my truck and my son thought that was the coolest thing ever . The music ...the great day at the beach and my son asleep on my lap was almost magical . I'll never forget that...32 years ago . PK
The ability of music to transport us through time and space like that is incredible! Your son must be my age!
Fantastic Leon! Thanks!
A Box is the best King's X song. I finally got to see them 2 years ago and when I heard the first few notes of that song, I lost it.
LT fan from the FAS site, !Lost in Germany! OMG, what quirky song to learn. Lots a patience needed to learn it correctly! Great work as always.
Marvellous ... one of the greatest and most underrated bands and youse guys nailed it!
Dude, thanks for sending me down the rabbit hole of King's X again. That "Over My Head" riff has been stuck in my head all week.
Nice one mate. As you know I'm a huge fan and those are awesome choices, particularly the last two.
Your singer nails Dug vocals, not an easy thing and makes me want to check out your band
Thank you Leon for giving a shout out to one of my favorite band!
Refreshing to listen to someone share what so many of us already know.
Good job. Love Ear Candy album as well. Thanks!!
yeah Ear Candy has some really fun stuff!
I had never heard of them until you spoke of them. Very cool will check more out.
Great vid Todd -- Was turned on to King's X by a good buddy of mine back in '89. He made me a cassette tape with OOTSP and GGTN. Upon first listen I was perplexed, thought they were at least a 5 piece band,...didn't know quite what to make of them. On successive listens, then finding out they're a trio utterly blown away. Of my of favs of all time, seen then countless times live.
This channel is awesome . Makes me want to revisit my old cd collection. Favourite song off of King’s X Dogman album would have to be Shoes, with beatlesque vocal harmonies and the heavy AF opening riff
Leon, you've got some solid taste in music, friendo. Dogman was my first King's X song I heard, that main riff will never leave my head.
Grove Machine. From Tape Head. One of the greatest opening cuts ever next to Dogman. Anything from Please Come Home Mr Boulbous. The greatest melodic hard rock bands of all time. Not to mention all the Solo stuff all three of them did. Top notch.
My favorite has to be "Looking for Love." One of the best riffs ever.
Ear Candy, to me, is their best album
@@eddieperez9565 I'd say it's mine too. Love the mix between the early sound and the darker Dogman era.
Ear Candy was so overlooked even by their own fans. I love the production on that album. It's so open. A lot of atmosphere and sonic space that just gets filled to the brim with every instrument and harmony. And the song "A Box" got me through some pretty tough times
Oh man thanks! My favorite band!
Lost In Germany is such a great song. So crunchy and fanciful. We Were Born To Be Loved is in one word - EPIC! Just short of being metal.
Love this band!! Please do more
Hey, Thanks for profiling Kings X. Amazing band.. I've loved them for years! Great playing guys!
Great band
@@LeonTodd My secret fave track is cigarettes... What a tune!
Enjoyed your vid and I absolutely love King's X. I have seen them far more often than any...ANY other band. Again, enjoyed the video and you did a nice job on the covering of those riffs.
This is awesome! They are somewhat of a local band for me. They are great! Thanks!
Glad you mentioned Pleiades. Was waiting to see if you would. One of my faves.
IIRC Ty mentioned that was THE song that got the ball rolling with the signature King's X sound
Nice. Ty has one of those impossible to recreate tones. Great job on the riffs. Both of you.
Brilliant vid Leon. Ty is a legend
Killer bro! Kings X is one of our favorites as well!
Well done Troy and Leon!
Thanks for sharing Brothers!
Be Well!
Great video. Love this - love them!
Thanks so much!
Have loved this group over thirty years now since catching them on headbangers ball in the late 80’s!! Thanks for doing a fantastic job, showing them the love! Billy Sheehan, Dimebag Darell, etc... all big fans! But “industry” executives?!? Great night watching Dream Theatre, w/ Fates Warning in SLC 1994. What did they play between bands? Dogman , through big P.A. EPIC!!!
Back shortly after it came out my room mate came home with "Gretchen" didn't tell me what it was and put it on, from the second I heard "Out Of The Silent Planet" I was hooked, the vocal parts, that hauntingly cool guitar, it was like hearing the Beatles in an alternate reality, as "Over My Head" began I recognized it due to MTV air play. I was curious about them from seeing that video thinking "I never heard of these guys they're awesome" well I learned from that time moving forward being a guitar player that, ya never feel anything but cool playing a Ty Tabor riff, much love to Kings X !!
Too many great riffs to pick. Y'all highlighted some of my favorites. I saw 3 times in less than year from end of last year into this year. Got a pic of us together. I'm a rock keyboard player, but I love this band! Rock is NOT dead!!
Hey Leon, I agree King's X is one of my favorite bands. They are musician's musicians. Dogman, Black the Sky, Black Flag...so many other great tunes. It is almost criminal how underrated this band is/was. The good thing (for me), is they have performed at a relatively small theater near me last year and I have high hopes they will do it again. SOOOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!!
One of the best trios ever seen !!!
That. Was. Awesome!
Great job guys. Gutted to have had tickets to see them on UK tour but they had to cancel. Not something they would do lightly but I am sure they will reschedule when they are able.
First time to visit your channel and immediately subscribed. Nice one fellas.✊
Leon as soon as I saw the mention of Kings X on your channel I immediately clicked on, I have always loved this band, very tight band, bring some more brother
Great job covering those vocals and bass lines.
Dogman was my first exposure to King's X and I'm kinda glad it worked out that way. Honestly, if I'd started at the beginning I'm not sure I would've gotten into them. Now, of course, the four albums prior to Dogman are among my favorite records of all time.
It's the reverse for me--if "Dogman" had been my first encounter, I might have walked away. But "Gretchen" nailed me to the wall. and it opened the door.
Holy shit Leon! Thanks for the discovery!
Enjoy!
Absolutely great review. Dogman has one of the most crushingly solid grooves from start to finish.
HELL yeah.. Had the pleasure of opening for kings X back in 2010 or so. Awesome dudes, hell of a band. Thanks for this Leon
That's awesome!!!
A old bass player I knew told me about this Lab L9. It was at guitar center. I went there and bought it. I recall Ty Tabor had an endorsement. Thanks for the videos.
Still have it? Cool amps
Yes it sounds great
We use to cover "What I Know About Love", Told dUg and he said they never had done it live and gave Ty a strange look. It was so much fun to cover and has always been one of my favorite King'sX songs.
Awesome vid Leon! I’m from Austin, Texas and Kings X is from Houston, Texas so I can’t help but be a big King’s x fan. They will be playing back in Austin in a few months. Wish you could join me at their show!
Love King's X! My biggest influence musically when I first started playing guitar, bass, and drums. I have so many memories from back in the day of driving around in my car listening to King's X . 🙌👍
Glad to be among friends after all these years, lol. I remember hearing the ending of We Were Born To Be Loved in some of the most obscure places!! Paul Shaffer and the band played it during breaks (several times in fact) on the David Letterman show. Also going to a break and even background music during one of the televised Nascar races. I would try to tell my buddies who and what the music was from ...... they were not my buddies! hahaa FANTASTIC JOB on the video!!!
Absolutely one of my favorite bands as well!!!!
I put together a King’X tribute band in the 90’s Called Delta IX back in the 90’s and they actually let us come up and play WWBTBL and talk to you at a show with Doug singing for us at the 40 Watt club in Athens GA back in 2001 which was one of my best lifetime memories. So great to see this video today Leon! Brought back great memories!!
Summerland! Glad you gave it a mention. One of the best tunes they ever did.
Great video. Thank you gentlemen.
Well played, you guys. King's X is so awesome and yet underrated. Maybe you could do something about Killing Joke or Living Colour?
I was booker in Germany for King's X back in the 90s and could listen to them several times on their club tours, three guys rocking stages - and ages - legends! And so nice and modest backstage. Thank God, dUg and the gang are still active playing and recording songs.
Thank you for this great riffs tribute, Leon! Respect and regards from Germany - Sue V.
That's very cool. I imagine they would have gone over really well with audiences there. When Ragdoll played in Europe a few years ago I was really surprised at how intently people in clubs listed to what we were playing and how well they treated musicians!
One of the keys to Ty Tabor’s unique sound was his use of the early ‘80’s Elite Strats with the TBX and MDX circuits (the latter being the active midrange boost Clapton still uses in his Strats). The pickups had dummy coils in them and and those guitars had an interesting push button method of pickup selection.
Not exactly the same as Clapton MDX -- the Elite had half as much gain and the boost was focused on a lower frequency -- but as my father used to say, "close enough for government work". 😁
Great job dudes . Love this vid .
Thank you!
Awesume. been a fan of Kingsx since 1988
Fade and Looking for Love are a couple that should be on your list as well. So many songs. King's X is my favorite band ever. Thanks for posting video.
Best band on the planet! Been listening for over 30 years. Legends!!! Great job LT and Troy. Epic.
I work with Kevin Mourning, he used to be Kings X roadie/ road manager back in the day. He hooked me up with their book "The Verbal History". Really cool read. Kevin is also the guy that came up with the title "Gretchen Goes To Nebraska". He's always telling me interesting stories about being on the road with them. We are friends who bonded over Kings X. It's amazing how many artists cite Kings X as influences in that book. I could send you a copy if you would like, Leon
That's very cool! They're the ultimate musicians band
FANTASTIC! Bass player here! Love King's X!! 🔥
