Another option should've been to take him with you and see the "civilized" world as your companion so he can learn with someone who can be trusted and knows the ways of the "civilized" world. This way Follows-chalk can better decide what he would like to do later.
yea i never understood why that was not an option, if i was in that situation i would say, "yea but you have to come with me until you get your bearings and i can take you home if you need to." it never made sense why you would just let somebody like that go on their own.
To hard to implement I would assume. Although there is a mod that lets you take Follows Chalk with you to the Mojave and another that does the same for Dean Domino.
I think Follows-Chalk is better off in Zion. If there was an option to take him with us so we could show him the ropes it'd be different. But just him all alone, his chances aren't great. The fact that the epilogue says his tribe never saw him again seems to indicate he died, otherwise I can't see him not returning eventually.
It's also possible that he found the outside world so fascinating that he couldn't go back. Example: some people could totally play Fallout 4 as a farming sim using the settlement building. Heck, think of the Never Leave Sanctuary challenge. Then there are others who would rather explore the world, dangerous or no. For Follows-Chalk it may be that living his whole life at Dead Horse point would be like never leaving Sanctuary- you just get used to living there, don't end up with a reason to leave. Some people can't stand settlements, on the other hand, and perhaps Follows-Chalk is like that person, and can't imagine spending another minute at home (or a useless hub, which as best I can tell is what Sanctuary is if you don't build anything there). If my information is off, sorry, never played 4 or watched much to do with settlements. I hope the analogy holds.
I always thought of it as him not wanting to return back to the tribe after civilization. Fuck, if its true hinting that he died, I'm gonna go cry in the fetal position.
@@alienlee7793 id like to stay positive and simply believe that he just never went home, perhaps not intentionally, but the world is vast, and seeing it all on foot would take so much time, that he merely forgot the way back, after travelling so far.
Thinking about it, one should not see Follows-Chalk's wish to expolore from our own modern perspective, but rather take a look at this kind of society, how deadly the world is and the fact that it's only YOUR character that is somehow able to cleave death to all across the Mojave Area. Just about anyone else are fragile like glass in comparison... Just look at how you can destroy a whole Vault full of Fiends. Or how you can wander through the whole Big MT. with killer robots, brainmuddled dudes. Follows-Chalk would very much DIE and never be heard from again should he just go wandering. Sure the Wasteland itself isn't as lethally savage as it was back during, like, Fallout 1. Just look at the NCR - a damn nation-in-growth, civilized and set upon the principles of Presidential Elections, those weak of body but strong of mind could manage to survive in such a civil place and be of use for scientific work, the passing on of knowledge in a more strong-minded way, etc.
@@kinagrill well since he heads west in the ending that he is encouraged to leave, and initially comes back, he went into NCR lands. and Tribal Life is equally dangerous with violent tribes, carnivorous wildlife and lack of medical resources, so i dont get your mindset if you want to lay claim that it is SAFER to stay with the tribe. he is a man, and it is his right to follow his heart, whether it be dangerous or not to go, he evidents handles it just fine as a capable dead horse scout.
Hey Oxhorn, remember the thing Joshua said about the .45 autos being designed by a member of his tribe 400 years ago? Well he was referring to the pistols, which are some model of Colt 1911, probably the 1911A1, being designed by the great John Moses Browning, who was an LDS member from Utah, specifically Ogden. The pistol was designed in 1907, adopted by the US military in 1911 (hence the name), and was only replaced in 1992 by the Beretta M9. It is still in production in our timeline and is one of the most prolific semiauto pistols in the world. In the Fallout timeline, it was produced for civilians until the bombs fell. It is a fairly fitting choice as it fires the powerful .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge and is know for it's durability and reliability. It is also fitting because Saint Browning (as he is known in the firearms community) was a Mormon Gunsmith from Ogden. I think that Obsidian's choice of weapon was a very nice touch. This isn't the pistol's first outing in a Fallout game as it was in Fallout 1 & 2 if my memory is correct, and I know for a fact that it was in both Fallout:Tactics and Fallout Brotherhood of Steel. Browning's work can be found else in New Vegas, as the 9mm pistol in the main part of the game is modeled on the Browing Hi-Power, another JMB design, this one from 1935, though it was his last, as he died while working on it and work continued on it by his assistant, Dedonie Saive (I almost certainly spelled that wrong), as Browning moved to Belgium between WW1 & WW2. I thought you might like a little bit of info about the history behind Graham's remark and just wanted to fill you in on some background info.
Daniel Hyson but wait, Joshua says it was created by his “tribe” 400 years ago and the game takes place in around 2210 right? That’s only 300 years ago the 1911 came out
i know this post is a year old but... the 1911 is still used by both military and police forces. they get to choose which side arm they want. Too many soldiers were complaining that the M9 didn't have the stopping power of the 1911, whether it's real or perceived is moot. It was decided to give the choose to maintain combat morale. Very much like applique armor on tanks during WWII.
@aj200415.........New Vegas takes place in the year 2281. 😉 2311-2281=30 So Joshua rounded up 30 years and implied that the firearm design was from about 400 years ago, which would be true. Slightly different semantics but I understand your point. If you calculate the fact that Browning started designing the 1911 as early as 1907, then we’re really saying that Joshua rounded up only 26 years. So he wasn’t being precise obviously, but I think Joshua was speaking in a more general sense. 🤷♂️
MasterFhyl Ha! Congrats! You are the winner of the Fallout Pun of the Week award! As a prize, you get to go to this settlement that needs our help. I'll mark it on your map.
I hate to say it, but my first run through Zion I killed Follows-Chalk thinking he was a White Leg who was attacking me. That made Zion a very dangerous place because everyone was out to kill me, including Daniel and Joshua.
Same. I shot him dead the second he showed up on that ridge, then got very confused when I had to murder everyone in Zion. Thank god I had a previous save.
Just because Follows-Chalk was never seen again doesn't necessarily mean he met an unfortunate fate. Perhaps he just continued to wander and adventure. Perhaps he met a nice girl and settled down somewhere. Maybe he found a community that needed him and decided to remain to protect it. Who knows? A lotta these stories/endings are either open to interpretation, or don't allow for any realistic middle ground, but that's the nature of the beast.
The Courier should've had the option to take Follow-Chalk as a companion so he can understand the "civilized" world and survive within a apocalyptic wasteland. I think the Courier and Follow-Chalk relationship would be like a mentor and student. Until they finally went their own separate ways. When Follow-Chalk learns almost everything from the Courier lessons and morals.
I don't see why he wouldn't return to his tribe at least to visit one more time in the rest of his lifetime. Even if he was succesful in the civilization there would be more possibilities for him to check back on the tribe that raised him, it just seems odd that he literally was never seen again.
@@kingnamor777 Right? Like say Fallout 3, where you basically get called a coward for having either of your three companions who can resist radiation start up Project Purity for you. Even though it was because the voice actor for Fallout 3's narrator didn't have time to record more lines, I still feel disrespected.
@@ItsYaBoiBigBozo I know right talk about!? if you're going to do voice acting in a game. Do it right; I don't care how bored or tired you are. Because it makes the game degrading and give you the individual a bad reputation.
Yeah I think you're right. We find one in Ranger Substation Peregrine. I never though to include it because I was looking for a weapon new with Honest Hearts.
the cattle prod is a base game weapon, if I recall. Already there when I played unmodded New Vegas. Also appeared way before Honest Hearts started. ( fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Cattle_prod_(Fallout:_New_Vegas) )
Too bad you can't escort Follows chalk to the wasteland. I think it would be good for him to see the corruption and poverty first hand. It would be cool to show him a vault too.
Follow-Chalk fanfiction "Best Ending": The Courier words of generosity convinced Follow-Chalk to join alongside him/her and teach him everything about the "civilized" world by traveling together in the Mojave Wasteland and NCR territory. After several months of experiencing everything through the eyes of the Courier. Follow-Chalk and the Courier eventually went their separate ways. Follow-Chalk decided to join the Happy Trails Caravan, being known for being a fearless and strong mercenary for hire. Making a infamous name for himself in the Mojave Wasteland and cities in the wild west. After obtaining a large sum of caps, high quality supplies and honest- heart allies. Follow-Chalk and friends created their very own settlement that welcomed morally righteous tribes and travelers alike. Leaving the traveling life behind him in order to raise his new family and naming one his first born son after Joshua Graham and named other son/daughter after the Courier.
Letting Follows Chalk go out into the Mohave alone is irresponsible, and probably sending him to his death. Of the two options given, convincing him to stay with his tribe may disappoint, but it is the best for his long term happiness and likely survival. We should have had an option to bring him back with us to the Mohave after the end of Honest Hearts and act as a mentor to him. Let him learn and get used to the way "civilization" works without just throwing him into the deep end of the shark tank with hunks of bloody meat tied to his waist.
Carl Doopydoo Those are what he's talking about. The Compliance Regulator is a unique weapon and the ammo you find in the ranger station usually doesn't feed it.
Indeed When I played Honest Hearts I found the Cattle Prod in one of those stations and assumed it was referring to that I never even new that stun gun was in the dlc
So Oxhorn doesn't simply stay put when thinking about something deeply, he doesn't take a little stroll, he doesn't fidget, no, he murders bighorners with a taser…I don't know what to think of that…
Follows-Chalk is such an endearing character, young, innocent, wanting to see the world beyond the lands that he knows, to learn about civilization, i always give him my blessing and encouragement to follow that dream. i know not what his fate will entail when he leaves Zion, but i wish him the best.
If you like him that much, encourage him to stay. The ending he gets if he leaves comes across to me as “he left and some big animal are him, so that he was never seen again”.
I decided to encourage him to leave. Sure, it says "He was never seen again." But that doesn't mean anything bad happened to him. I mean, in Marcus's canon Fallout 2 ending, it says "you never heard from him again." Then in New Vegas, you see things turned out pretty well for him. For all we know, he could be in a decent place too.
I influenced Follows Chalk to stay in Zion. For my first playthrough, I played on Hard Core mode and the difficulty really had a good effect on me. Which basically turned the game into a real life organism thing where I had to manage multiple resources and be strict about how I play (I rarely engaged in combat because of how expensive bullets were. So I preferred to talk about my problems and peacefully resolve them where I could.) So basically the reason I told him to stay, was out of the fear of how easy it was for anyone to get killed in Fallout. So Follows Chalk would probably die prematurely before finding anything of value out in his travels.
It occurs to me that the title "Honest Hearts" is likely a reference to early LDS leader and founder of Salt Lake City, Brigham Young. He stated, "Honest hearts produce honest actions."
In my ending, i incentive him to travel, I like to believe He's probably traveling from settlement to settlement, and never returned because he got curious for learn more, i like to think he traveled to Boston, would be cool to see him as a follower in a fallout 5 or 6,
i just want to say how much i appreciate your narration! i listen to your videos at work on my phone, since i can't WATCH (i walk all night, so my phone is in my pocket) and i just really really really appreciate your narration and descriptions!
I have fond memories of my character wandering the Mojave in the park ranger hat, patrolman sunglasses, veteran ranger combat armour and a big iron on his hip... big iron on his hip...
One option I would have liked for Follows-Chalk's ending would be for the Courier to act as his guide through the Mojave. It's fitting, since he is your guide for a good while in Zion, and the Courier could teach him anything he needs to know about the Mojave- how money works, how to avoid swindlers, what to do about radiation poisoning, even all about Ghouls and Super Mutants. Then perhaps he could return to his tribe a wiser & more worldly man, instead of simply vanishing...
Honestly Oxhorn I told him to leave, asking him to defy his dreams like that is like telling someone not to be a doctor for the debt or responsibility, or telling a patriot not to go to the military for the danger. I know he has family there but if they are a family like he needs than they will wait for him, however I agree he probably couldn't survive the Mojave, mostly because of his naive nature. That's just my opinion, love you and the series man have a great day!
Karol Kożuchowski If you enjoy these types of games. The narrative is compelling and the DLC content is very good. It's not a perfect game and I would consider it much better with mods, but either way, I would recommend it.
I remember when i first played Fallout New Vegas honest hearts i told follows chalk to leave thinking he would become my companion in the Mojave. Sadly this never happened and for the rest of playthrough i thought about what would of happened if the developers had of put this in the game.
The Courier should've had the option to take Follow-Chalk as a companion so he can understand the "civilized" world and survive within a apocalyptic wasteland. I think the Courier and Follow-Chalk relationship would be like a mentor and student. Until they finally went their own separate ways. Kinda wish you could convince Follows-Chalk to follow *you* back to the Mojave. Take him under your wing, and teach him the ways of the world. I know that would require the game to allow you to bring back companions, and his perk would need to change. But I feel that would be the one choice that'd make the most sense. Plus, it open the door to bringing back Christine and Ulysses. Both of which would have very interesting impacts on the game world.
My opinion on a good Follows-Chalk ending is to send him off to explore civilization, because if he does, groups such as the Followers of the Apocalypse and NCR learn about the Dead Horses and Sorrows tribes, and could quite possibly send groups and patrols to Zion and to some of the remaining towns in Utah. This would allow Utah to become NCR-controlled territory, and would allow the Followers to study and assist other Dead Horses and Sorrows in improving their lives. The followers would gain new members, and more and more dead horses and sorrows would be able to travel to and from California and Zion. This would only be possible if the Sorrows, Dead Horses, and Courier 6 work together to crush the White Legs, which would allow the Sorrows to patrol Highway 50 and Southwestern Utah, allowing Happy Trails Caravans and groups such as the Followers access to Zion.
I like follows chalk. He seems like a nice fella to travel with. I'd love to travel with someone who is clueless of my way of life tell him stories that would blow his mind
wow, i was more than content with your older videos, but the quality of them just keep improving. I also gotta say, i really enjoy your content, your views of the story and portrayal of lore is very unique and thought provoking. youre quite a talented story teller. i have come to love my story time with you man , the time just seems to fade away
19:42 "Hindsight is 20/20..." I don't know, mine is actually a bit blurry. Sometimes looking back at an option provides the same level of uncertainty as looking forward.
I think a man should follow his heart. It's clear follows chalk wants to explore civilization, he just doesn't have the confidence do to it without peer approval. U can see how heartbroken he is if u convince him to stay. I felt like if he wants to explore the wasteland then do it, follow ur dreams
Not only is he 'mostly' the only person doing lore on Fallout these days but he's probably the only guy who's played the whole franchise and doesn't hate one over another. Remember, most Fallout fans tend to shit all over Fallout 3 and 4 while putting 1, 2, and NV on a pedestal. These aren't my personal opinions mind you. I'm merely explaining how the vocal fan base acts.
I think he should explore...with you. You can teach him the ways of the Mojave and the strip and such. If he likes it, well, if he doesn't he can go back.
Courier of The Wastes Arcade and Raul were actually my favorite companions even though they seem to be the least popular vanilla F:NV companions. Raul's repair abilities and adeptness with revolvers are super useful and Arcade's companion quest gives my absolute favorite power armor in the game since I'm all about the energy weapons. Plus I like having the choice to be able to make Arcade Caesar's slave with my evil Legionaire character. Lastly, both of their back stories are pretty cool. So I'd love to see Ox make profiles on them
Each DLC should have had a permanent Companion afterwards. Honest Hearts gives you Follows-Chalk (or Joshua Graham?), Dead Money gives you Dean Domino or God/Dog, Old World Blues gives you Roxie (and potentially have the sentient Stealth Suit take control of a Lobotomite?) and of course Lonesome Road should give you Ulysses (and potentially the 2nd ED-E?) Each Faction should also have a Companion. The Followers of the Apocalypse, The Brotherhood of Steel and The NCR are clear due to Arcade, Veronica and Boone The Kings gives us Pacer (though Rex already technically covers them), The Legion gives us Vulpes Inculta, Mr. House gives us Victor/Yes Man, etc.
@ Yeah, I wonder who could have been the Companions for the Minor Factions like The Boomers, Great Kahns, Enclave Remnants, Chairmen, Omertàs and White Gloves.
The way I see it I think that telling him to see these things himself is the best option. It lets him see and experience the outside world. He already wants to see it so while we don't know what happens but I chose to think he chose to wander until he died seeing and learning all he could.
Naw man, he got HIMSELF killed! .......look ...All the courier did was suggest to Follows-Chalk that he see the civilized lands outside of Zion Canyon for himself, to learn from it. I don’t remember the courier encouraging Follows-Chalk to abandon his family and tribe, nor did the courier suggest Follows-Chalk try to bring the ways of the civilized world back to the tribals of Zion Canyon..........those are both choices Follows-Chalk made on his own volition. I don’t need or want a lecture about, every action has consequences, or, yeah but by telling Follows-Chalk to explore the outside civilized lands, you set him on the path that would lead to those later decisions blah blah blah blah..... When I told Follows-Chalk it would be best for him to see the civilized lands for himself, I didn’t even know he had a family! I mean it’s not like you get to meet or see them, and do we even know how big his family is? Is he married? How many children does he have? How vital is Follows-Chalk to the rest of the Dead Horses? And finally, it’s fair for the courier to assume that Follows-Chalk is mature and smart enough to know the consequences of giving into your personal wanderlust over the responsibilities you have to your family and tribe. It’s not fair to assume that the player should have known that Follows-Chalk would simply abandon his family and tribe to go fulfill some selfish wanderlust desire. Because if we, the player, had foresight that this would be what Follows-Chalk eventually does, we might have suggested something else to him. Honestly Follows-Chalk’s ending is one that doesn’t make much sense to me. We never truly learn what Follows-Chalk’s drive is, what his intentions are for his tribe after he returns from the civilized lands, and what ultimately compels Follows-Chalk to leave a second time and never return. 🤷♂️ Kinda frustrating if you ask me.

I love how during that good morale talk about follows-chalk leaving you're just running around shooting up their only food supply xD I know it was B-roll footage but its still hilarious to watch
I encouraged Follows-Chalk to experience "civilized lands" for himself because I think it's a good idea to experience new things at some point in ones life
I wish there was an option to let Follows-Chalk travel to the Mojave with you for a while, even if it's just mentioned in the epilogue. That way he could ease into "civilized" life with a mentor instead of risking it on his own like that. : / He deserved the opportunity to see the outside world and I hate that it most likely ended badly for him.
Fun fact: The head writer's favorite NV DLCs were Big Mountain & Honest Hearts. He said HH was his favorite story to write & Big Mountain was the most fun to write. He also wrote & is writing the DLCs for HORIZON:Zero Dawn. Lots of influence from Honest Hearts, most notably the Sorrows & The Father in the Cave. IMO: Lonesome Road> Honest Hearts> The Pitt > Far Harbor> Big Mountain> Point Lookout> Mothership Zeta> Dead Money> Operation: Anchorage> Broken Steel> Nuka World> Automotron> . If I could add DLCs these would be my pitches: Vehicles. Tribals on Dirt Bikes. Zion Valley. Being invaded by NCR pioneers & ghoul survivors of the Lonesome Road. Determine their fate & the fate of Zion Valley. Then it's attacked by super mutants & BoS who eventually blow up the valley if you don't stop both sides. Pick who wins. Return to Far Harbor. New map, deeper inland. VERY swampy. There is a cult of Super Mutant Atoms that is raising a monster from another dimension (Titan / C'Thulhu). You need to sabotage the ritual. New settlements include Super Mutants & Synth settlers. Fallout with Zeta aliens. This is more vague. More-or-less Fallout 3's Zeta Invasion but I imagine there being Noble aliens & 'Killer' aliens. Settlements getting attacked, you help, you get captured. Gives us a reason to park a giant ship on the moon & for there to be an option to explore the whole damn moon in 360* & set up settlements on the moon, in bio-spheres. After the liberation of the ship. This is for laughs. Nuka World is being attacked by the Elite Gunners. Imagine a warfare of gunners vs minuteman, vs raiders, vs super mutants, vs new comers Tunnelers from Lonesome Road. Decide who wins, or abandon Nuka World to the endless horde of Tunnelers. Some as big as Behemoths. Robot Invasion. Skynet 3.0. It's a Terminator who is like IAM the A.I. from I Have no Mouth & I Must Scream. It's the size of liberty prime & an archetype like The Master & IAM. Return to the Sierria Madre. Christine needs help defending the Sierria Madre & keeping it supplied & the cloud in check. Similar to how Far Harbor air-filters get attack & destroyed. Just a whole damn mess of Fallout NPCs show up. Go crazy with it.
I think its best if you tell follows-chalk to travel out and see the world. My reason being is that he feels similar to how we (the players) felt when we took control of both the vault dwellers of fallout 1 and 3, set out on a journey into a world that we/they have never experienced before. It helped shaped the main characters into who they are today.
I also agree with your statement. That his desire for adventure and traveling. Is no different than the heroes of Fallout 1-3 and the Courier. Follow-Chalk should also be free to decide his own destiny. Whether it will bring him happiness or sorrow.
I consider that having Follows-Chalk stay with his family is a small risk big reward decision but exploring the wastes and civilized lands is an entirely new situation which is rewarding in itself. Also Follows-Chalk would have the same chances that almost all the player characters through all of the fallout games would have. I mean the Lone Wanderer came out of the vault with very little experience in general and learned as he/she went on (and I know you are the player character so you pretty much have an advantage over every npc but I think you get what I mean)
I did this today and completely forgot to go back to Follows Chalk. Just left him hanging. He deserved it for killing the bighorners and making me fail the optional portion of that quest.
If obsidian was given more time on the game, I bet they've made an option to keep follows chalk as a companion until he and the courier goes seperate ways
i would like to belive that follows-chalk become a strong man and wonder to many places but make so many mistakes that he didnt find the strenght to came back home, most like the crusader storyboard from DD (also that he changed his name to sitting bull and inspired fear whit his feather hat)
9:41 - I think Obsidian had something else in mind for the "lightening stick." Something more like a cattle-prod, I'd assuming. No clue what might have transpired to make them switch things up and include this gun, though.
can you do a video on Randall Clark in the honest hearts dlc if you go in to a bunch of cave you can find terminal that has he has logs in them and he is the reason that the sorrows tribe and one of the most badass people in fallout + you can get 3 unique weapon and armor the survivalist rifle and the desert ranger armour ps to get the rifle you need to find his body + information on what happened to the people in vault 22 when they left to find more you can go to thenthapple
I really enjoyed my time with Follows-Chalk, and seeing him get all starry-eyed about civilization and wanting to see the sights, I wanted him to experience that for himself. My first playthrough of Honest Hearts, I encouraged him to go, hoping at the end, he might have an option to leave with me, become a permanent follower and I could be a guide for him - help him understand the Mojave. Really, a missed opportunity by the devs, I think.

I think honest hearts is very sad, at the end, the tribals change for ever, specialy the sorrows; mirror of the native american's lives changing forever with the arrival of the white(legs) men....
I talked him into leaving to follow his dreams cause what else does that world have but one's dreams. To me when he lost his wanderlust it just meant his dreams died and his spirit was broken.
@@FlSKMASTER that's true but like, they all look weirder than usual. Like the one when he's showing off the park ranger hat had big ass anime eyes that looked really ugly
I told Follows Chalk to go see civilization with his own eyes. The fact that he was never seen again by his family just tells that he might have become something in the wastes. Or he might have died. Guess we'll never know for sure.
Even knowing how both ending slides play out, I still think convincing Follows-Chalk to explore the wasteland is the better option. While he does quarrel with his family, and does not return, it also does something good for the tribe as a whole. Other members, hearing of Follows-Chalk, will then know that, if they too have the same desire that he did, they too could explore the wastes. Convincing Follows-Chalk not only allows him to pursue his dreams, but it shows the rest of his tribe that they have options, choices to make about their future. Wasteland life may not be perfect, but then again neither is tribal life.
I told Follows-Choke to go explore the wasteland. Mostly because its what he wanted to do. Even though he probably should stay with his tribe sometimes tribal life isn't suited for everyone. If he found that the wasteland wasnt what he was expecting he could always go back to his family and tell the others if they should or shouldn't go for themselves allowing him to be a voice of wisdom in his own tribe if he ever returned.
I never did kill any of the Bighorn looking for the calf, but the idiot Follows Chalk killed 3 of them and when the quest was over, guess who gets the blame for it? Not the idiot who actually shot them, but me!
I do like how Joshua Graham has enough introspection to know that he is not a good man and that people should not follow in his footsteps. But also that he can still do things to aid others while he still live.
I typically play good natured characters but I've done both options. I normally choose to have him stay, mainly stemming from the idea that my character is a courier, a natural born traveler who for reasons to his/her own maintain a travelers lifestyle because they aren't fond of staying in one place for any great length of time. So as someone who has seen many different places (but of course most recently the barbarity of the Mojave) would likely tell Follows-Chalk to stay where he is. Like you my character would likely worry about a man like Follows-Chalk in a city environment like New Vegas which is a stark contrast to the life he has lived. Such a culture shock would have left such an impression as the episode ending says that it would change him forever and in my mind it turns him into a person similar to the Vault Dweller of the first Fallout. A man with no place in his home or in a city home perhaps and he would have to forge a new identity alone, or at least well away from the people he loved and grew up with.
Another option should've been to take him with you and see the "civilized" world as your companion so he can learn with someone who can be trusted and knows the ways of the "civilized" world. This way Follows-chalk can better decide what he would like to do later.
First thing i thought
yea i never understood why that was not an option, if i was in that situation i would say, "yea but you have to come with me until you get your bearings and i can take you home if you need to." it never made sense why you would just let somebody like that go on their own.

I'm interested.

Very much like applique armor on tanks during WWII.
aj200415, a bit late but it takes place in 2281.
Love my 1911! Accurate, and eats any ammo I feed it.
@aj200415.........New Vegas takes place in the year 2281. 😉
2311-2281=30
So Joshua rounded up 30 years and implied that the firearm design was from about 400 years ago, which would be true. Slightly different semantics but I understand your point.
If you calculate the fact that Browning started designing the 1911 as early as 1907, then we’re really saying that Joshua rounded up only 26 years. So he wasn’t being precise obviously, but I think Joshua was speaking in a more general sense. 🤷♂️
To be honest, I would have turned on Follows-Chalk... but I didn't want to beat a dead horse.
MasterFhyl Ha! Congrats! You are the winner of the Fallout Pun of the Week award! As a prize, you get to go to this settlement that needs our help. I'll mark it on your map.

MasterFhyl now that’s just being an ass, so come on stop horsing around, am I right?
Ahhhhhh...I see what you did there.....
I hate to say it, but my first run through Zion I killed Follows-Chalk thinking he was a White Leg who was attacking me. That made Zion a very dangerous place because everyone was out to kill me, including Daniel and Joshua.
silentpaw I mini nuked him by shooting the white leg that was on the Ridge.
You should have gone to the White Legs Camp, they give you a quest to murder Joshua and Daniel.
Same. I shot him dead the second he showed up on that ridge, then got very confused when I had to murder everyone in Zion. Thank god I had a previous save.
silentpaw Freaking s a m e
silentpaw Same, I saw him pop over the ridge and blew his head off.
@@streethalo Ikr. The fallout ending are too harsh and complicated.

Hey Ox I think Follows chalk meant the Cattle Prod melee weapon not the energy weapon.
Yeah I think you're right. We find one in Ranger Substation Peregrine. I never though to include it because I was looking for a weapon new with Honest Hearts.
I didn't even know that stun gun existed.
yeah i was thinking about the cattle prod too, since he said lightning stick.
Is the cattle prod a modded weapon for the dlc, or can u get it in gamr
the cattle prod is a base game weapon, if I recall. Already there when I played unmodded New Vegas. Also appeared way before Honest Hearts started.

Well, it only says "they never see him again," not "He died in the new world he dreamed of seeing."

Isn't he referring to cattle prods? Those can be found in ranger stations, I think
Carl Doopydoo
Those are what he's talking about. The Compliance Regulator is a unique weapon and the ammo you find in the ranger station usually doesn't feed it.
Carl Doopydoo Yeah. "Lightning sticks" sure sounds like the words a tribal would use to describe a cattle prod.
He ment a cattle prod
Exactly. You can find a couple of these 'lightning sticks' in a few of the ranger stations in Zion.
kyroraw Yep. I wasn't even sure if cattle prods exist in the game, but that was the first thing that came to mind. It just seems kind of obvious.
The NCR MPs carry them.
Indeed
When I played Honest Hearts I found the Cattle Prod in one of those stations and assumed it was referring to that
I never even new that stun gun was in the dlc
yup, lightning stick is a cattle prod, not a gun.

Follows-Chalk is such an endearing character, young, innocent, wanting to see the world beyond the lands that he knows, to learn about civilization, i always give him my blessing and encouragement to follow that dream.
i know not what his fate will entail when he leaves Zion, but i wish him the best.
Exactly, he has bigger things in store for his future.....far beyond Dead Horse Point.
The Courier should've had the option to take Follow-Chalk as a companion so he can understand the "civilized" world and survive within a apocalyptic wasteland. I think the Courier and Follow-Chalk relationship would be like a mentor and student. Until they finally went their own separate ways.
So I preferred to talk about my problems and peacefully resolve them where I could.)
So basically the reason I told him to stay, was out of the fear of how easy it was for anyone to get killed in Fallout. So Follows Chalk would probably die prematurely before finding anything of value out in his travels.
It occurs to me that the title "Honest Hearts" is likely a reference to early LDS leader and founder of Salt Lake City, Brigham Young. He stated, "Honest hearts produce honest actions."
It’s also referring to the tribals themselves. 👍
In my ending, i incentive him to travel, I like to believe He's probably traveling from settlement to settlement, and never returned because he got curious for learn more, i like to think he traveled to Boston, would be cool to see him as a follower in a fallout 5 or 6,
The father in the cave is honestly one of the best stories in the Fallout series.

I love how at 14:10 and the entire rest of the conversation follows chalk is just 🏃🏼♂️
Iconic framing for the conversion about follows chalk exploring the world
Honestly Oxhorn I told him to leave, asking him to defy his dreams like that is like telling someone not to be a doctor for the debt or responsibility, or telling a patriot not to go to the military for the danger.
I know he has family there but if they are a family like he needs than they will wait for him, however I agree he probably couldn't survive the Mojave, mostly because of his naive nature.
That's just my opinion, love you and the series man have a great day!
If you know how harsh the Mojave can be i wouldn't tell that person to venture out they may not understand but its for there own good
Should have made Follows-Chalk a companion that you can take to the Mojave and then he learns as you

I remember when i first played Fallout New Vegas honest hearts i told follows chalk to leave thinking he would become my companion in the Mojave. Sadly this never happened and for the rest of playthrough i thought about what would of happened if the developers had of put this in the game.

I heard Follows-Chalk so much in this that I started hearing Fellows-Chuck.

I think a man should follow his heart. It's clear follows chalk wants to explore civilization, he just doesn't have the confidence do to it without peer approval. U can see how heartbroken he is if u convince him to stay. I felt like if he wants to explore the wasteland then do it, follow ur dreams

I love these, I hope you do Old World Blues because that is honestly me favorite dlc, also talk about arcade gannon or raul
So I'd love to see Ox make profiles on them
Courier of The Wastes your wish has been granted
Each DLC should have had a permanent Companion afterwards.
Honest Hearts gives you Follows-Chalk (or Joshua Graham?), Dead Money gives you Dean Domino or God/Dog, Old World Blues gives you Roxie (and potentially have the sentient Stealth Suit take control of a Lobotomite?) and of course Lonesome Road should give you Ulysses (and potentially the 2nd ED-E?)
Each Faction should also have a Companion.
The Followers of the Apocalypse, The Brotherhood of Steel and The NCR are clear due to Arcade, Veronica and Boone
The Kings gives us Pacer (though Rex already technically covers them), The Legion gives us Vulpes Inculta, Mr. House gives us Victor/Yes Man, etc.

...All the courier did was suggest to Follows-Chalk that he see the civilized lands outside of Zion Canyon for himself, to learn from it.
Kinda frustrating if you ask me.

If I could add DLCs these would be my pitches:
Vehicles.
You do an excellent job completing the story line with your walk through commentary. Perfect for the work/home environment
i found a cattle prod, might be what he means.
I think follows chalk meant the cattle prod?
Carson Garnett I thought so too
I consider that having Follows-Chalk stay with his family is a small risk big reward decision but exploring the wastes and civilized lands is an entirely new situation which is rewarding in itself.
4:54 I know this has nothing to do with the vid but.......where the flip are your characters eyebrows Oxhorn lol
Imagine beating mr house/the NCR/ceasers legion depending on the route, joining another company as a courier and getting jumped again
Good vid as Allways OX
I did this today and completely forgot to go back to Follows Chalk. Just left him hanging. He deserved it for killing the bighorners and making me fail the optional portion of that quest.
Ox, your Spanish is baaaaaaad. X]
If obsidian was given more time on the game, I bet they've made an option to keep follows chalk as a companion until he and the courier goes seperate ways
Sooo the native Americans?
No. Native Americans are not Indian.
Weird he has American flag as pro pic and calling natives Indian
It's probably the lack of a any intelligence
Damn Americans, want to say they're not all dumb, but then the ones that ARE... Jesus.
Bacxaber They prefer to be called American Indians actually. Well at least my tribe does and the tribes we know prefer that
i would like to belive that follows-chalk become a strong man and wonder to many places but make so many mistakes that he didnt find the strenght to came back home, most like the crusader storyboard from DD (also that he changed his name to sitting bull and inspired fear whit his feather hat)
Ive played fallout 4 and ive never played fallout 3/nv are they worth buying in 2017
LENNY KING if you can stand the graphics then it is worth every cent.
New Vegas is worth it
9:41 - I think Obsidian had something else in mind for the "lightening stick." Something more like a cattle-prod, I'd assuming.
LegionOfStorms guarantee you he'll do a video on Randall, his importance to the backstory is too big for him to be ignored
LegionOfStorms He knows who he is, anyone who has played Honest Hearts does.
The Courier should've had the option take Follow-Chalk as companion so he can understand the "civilized" world and survive within a apocalyptic wasteland. I think the Courier and Follow-Chalk relationship would like a mentor and student. Until they finally went their own separate ways. When Follow-Chalk learns almost everything from the Courier lessons and morals.
Follow-Chalk decided to became a trader and fearless mercenary for hire.
Is it just me or are all of Ox's characters kinda gross...
Beartrap Dan they have this funny look about them. 😂😂😂
It's pretty hard to make a good looking character in older fallout and elder scrolls games
@@FlSKMASTER that's true but like, they all look weirder than usual. Like the one when he's showing off the park ranger hat had big ass anime eyes that looked really ugly
@@cynicalgold9992 some texture mod and it looks awful
I told Follows Chalk to go see civilization with his own eyes. The fact that he was never seen again by his family just tells that he might have become something in the wastes. Or he might have died. Guess we'll never know for sure.
The bighorner quest was so easy considering I had the Friend of Animals perk.
Follows Chalk was dumb in my quest. Telling me not to Kill bighorners but kept trying to kill them himself. I had to leave him behind.
Wasteland life may not be perfect, but then again neither is tribal life.
i have noticed by watching the way you play your games that your an all around good person and human being Oxhorn.
I have never been so excited for a UA-cam series. Cheers
I never did kill any of the Bighorn looking for the calf, but the idiot Follows Chalk killed 3 of them and when the quest was over, guess who gets the blame for it? Not the idiot who actually shot them, but me!
Alternatively take the Animal Friend perk and you can just walk through the crowd of Bighorners
The Videos get uploaded at 8 pm here, so its the perfect end for what is usually a hectic day man.
Bless you.
Its really funny. Follows-chalk is your guide in zion. The only way he'd survive new vegas would be if you guided him.
