My dad had a friend who was on TAR too! (It was brodie from season 28, or whenever the social influencer season was) My dad never got to ask him about the race though because he lives far away and he hasn’t talked to him in a while.
First episode of S2, as the first post-9/11 season is absolutely hilarious in hindsight with the teams rushing into the airport with their backpacks on and getting stopped by security 🤣
Phil is surprisingly humble... i mean he is a host but he is never sarcastic.... his facial response with DeAngelo at s32 is quote humbling i mean he can just insult DeAngelo back about what he said when he and Gar got eliminated... i think Phil is such a beautiful person inside and out!!!
Shoutout to the camera and audio crew and also the people who has to stand around/perform while waiting for racers to complete their challenges or even find their way there in the first place.
I miss the early seasons when they booked their own travel and could actually get a lead with smart flight routing or just being super lucky. Now the “race” only occurs between flights, it’s been rigged to keep things close. For example you finish in 7th but get on the same flight as all the over teams which basically resets the race. I assume they did this after the one season where one team managed a nearly 24 hour lead. It became pretty clear Phil can’t be in two places at once so they need to ensure everyone is finished before the next leg starts.
But would this make it remotely enjoyable? If a team is hopelessly behind, with no real shot at making up several hours (or even a day's difference -- see Team Guido in their first season's final), it takes so much of the suspense out of the show. There is no real point in showing their futile attempt to get back in the race. Likewise, a team with a gigantic lead going into the final renders it meaningless. Sure, we can be happy that the team was good, but blowouts are boring.
I like that they keep them close so we get everyone and then see where they might fall behind. The airports and the "Opens at X am" are my favorite parts of the race
I feel like both extremes can be a problem. It's nice to see momentum have meaning and value, but not to the point where it defeats later episodes. I'd like to see a few episodes, roughly equally spread out, where all the teams are on the same flight, and always start the finale with all teams on the same flight. But I would like where more often than not there are either 3 or more flights with only enough room for a certain number of teams each, or they have to do their own booking.
The thing I've always appreciated about this show is that they're straight-shooters when it comes to editing. I don't think I've seen a single episode where they've made it seem like a certain team is ahead, but someone else shows up at the mat instead. It makes the show so much more authentic.
They are the unsung heroes of this show. They are rarely visible in the shot and go to great lengths to avoid affecting the outcome of the race like filming that passport on the ground of the gas station as the team leaves or other screw-ups by the teams.

It made it way too easy back then. I'm glad they don't do that anymore. I also like that fact that Amazing Race: Unfinished Business didn't have a fast forward at all.
@@kellydaunis I found it fun when a team that by all accounts should get eliminated snags a Fast Forward that other teams were playing with more strategically. Like I said, it was a fun bit of chaos while also granting teams much more strategy in a game that doesn't use all that much, really. You can largely ignore the social aspect of the Amazing Race which is suicide in games like Survivor or Big Brother. The fast forward was something that could either be used late in the game to keep your team fresh or early to help you stabilize your position. With 3 or fewer, no such strategy exists as it puts all the stress on teams to be in top shape at all times.
Imagine promoting the show in the heart of Harlem and introducing the Black Family, which was the Black family! Phil's not dumb -- that was a recipe for disaster. Fortunately Mr. Black was there for the save.
No way. That season was so set up for them to win, especially the prizes for coming in first on each leg & production getting the airline to hold the plane in South America so they could make it & not get eliminated
I still believe if it weren’t for Joyce’s haircut in the India fast forward, they probably wouldn’t had been put on that flight and won the season. The haircut was for good luck and it played out well.

I noticed as early as season 12, maybe earlier they didn't always do a strict 12 hour rest period. Sometimes theyll do start times super early in the morning if the next leg has a flight so all teams can get to the airport.
@@OnceUponAnIsland My parents were divorcing at the time and my 7-year-old brain thought if we went on the Amazing Race family edition it would save us. I can now vividly remember my mom saying "honey it would make everything worse." Man, how right she would have been XD
I actually liked the Family Edition. It seemed exciting right to the end. Personally, I don't like it when they bring back teams who have already competed.
The secret I wanted to know is why an multi award show not have more seasons? As the years progressed, the months between seasons became more and more. I get it, currently we have the pandemic. And with the development of social media, it is very difficult to contain information/videos of races that are still running. At the beginning, as one season was shown, the next one is already being ran. Actually, my only real question is- will the Amazing race continue to run?
Because any of those awards represent the present of the audience view, most of TAR's ones got taken by RPDR in later years, also, it is not healthy to have 2 seasons for year for such physical demanding show
i swear in season 4 jon and al booked a flight then looked for (and got) an earlier flight... i feel like teams were allowed to change flights until s5 i might be wrong though
TAR Canada literally runs races locally and they still are unique and intense. USA has 20x the amount of cultures and geographical landmarks. There's literally no excuse not to have a good season while in the States.
Unpopular opinion: I don't base my likings of a season off of the chemistry of teams. The locations and creativity of tasks make or break an ENTIRE season for me. 24 and 26 were a dumpster trash fire that I would never want to watch unless I want to scorch my eyes out.
@@kellydaunis Same! Season 7 is the most underrated season. No one talks about it nowadays. The way they did a complete 180 on the globe following Lucknow had me shooked. Also, Caribbean, Peru, Botswana, Istanbul, ftw. I want to like 33 (I truly do) because I love all the teams and feel awful for the circumstances and pressure they were under to get the ball re-rolling again, but man, the tasks aren't resonating with me so far.
@@kellydaunis They even brought back the adrenaline rushing music last night for the first time in forever and yet the tasks were subpar at best. 😭 I'm gonna get dragged for ranking this season at the end of it, lmao.
@@francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep I'm wondering if COVID and the production Safety Plan to avoid transmission played a big part in that. They played it much safer than usual because of that than usual.
The Family edition was boring. The tasks and places were limited because of the ages of the kids. Perhaps if TAR attempted another family edition but with all team members being an adult, it may be more successful.
The Canadian version of TAR has very localized routes with places that can feel identical to a sister city in the same province and they still can squeeze a lot of good tasks from them. To my perspective, the Family Edition had executed a very slow-paced route after flying back up from Central America. The tasks after Arizona were definitely not all kid-friendly though (Utah detour, ski jump, trapeze, horseback riding, railroad labor). I've seen regular seasons of TAR that kids could do though (season 24 especially).
3 people in the backseat, including the audio guy. Camera man sits in the passenger seat. I actually cover that in one of these secrets video with footage.
I sure hope the producers finally have a 55 + older edition for us old fogies to really enjoy? unless they already have between season 30 and season 35??
I believe a production secret is that they purposely allowed only 1 double-male team to race in season 5 because in 3 out of the 4 previous seasons, the winning team was a double-male team. Which in a way is why... SPOILER: Eric & Jeremy (Season 9 runners-up and 5-leg winners) weren't together in the Season 11 all-star season. Instead having Eric race with girlfriend Danielle.
@@OnceUponAnIsland in 30 ..pipo intentionally gave other teams wrong directions on camera and even posted it.. In the final 2 legs... In 31 survivor Caleb was axed the day before shooting... An unaired head to head..... Go to rff, Rachel's sisters twitter, that's the secrets I know
I want to know how the producers decide which legs to award 1st place prizes like vacations on. Like in season 7, there was price for first place on Leg 1. And then they only other time a prize was awareded to a first place team were the times Rob and Amber came in first. All the other times there was no prize for the first place contestants (obviously except for the winners at the end) The travelocity prize was given as well, but it had nothing to do with which team arrived 1st at the pit stop. It just seemed really fishy that it was Rob and Amber every time. But when other teams arrived 1st they got nothing.
Fairly interesting, but too many people talking over each other toward the end. I still have too many questions which weren't answered. I've watched every episode for many years.
The producers said they're changing the rules to disallow teams from helping each other during Roadblocks because of this alliance. I'm surprised this was never in effect after that whole Brooke fiasco in 28.
Although I did not watch every single episode of the show I always wondered, Is it me or Hispanics/ Latinos were underrepresented? I mean everybody else was represented white, black, women,Asian, gay, East Indian, I just don’t recall too many brown people in general 🤷🏻♂️🌎

16. I didn’t know this and I am not surprised.
17. Didn’t know they could do that, and wow they are crazy and I love them!
18. I can’t believe this happened. Wow!
19. Felt so bad for them and the 24 hours bus/train rides.
20. Sometimes this happens however will challenges no.
21. Didn’t know this, and make senses.
22. Exactly! Don’t be a sheep unless you don’t know what/where you are going. Then, that is when you follow so you don’t get left behind.
23. Not surprised. Rob is a villain and I love it.
24. Iconic! I love this moment, and so happy they won! I don’t care if production did it; it would be boring if they didn’t.
25. This is so funny. Also, not surprised.
26. Wow! He better did. He caused you Million Dollars.
27. Just like Big Brother most of the time they can’t show it because of copyright. Sometimes they get to!
28. At least they get good hotels.
29. Not surprised also season 1 all of the behind the scenes is crazy!
Most surprised: the ones I didn’t know because I didn’t know! lol
Personally I love 13.
It shows the authenticity of the show. You can't dispute how real the show is when he is explainibg it in real time similar to a sports commentator
I mean, honestly? I don't see how the hell there WASN'T any production interference with that infamous moment in Season 7's finale.
I love love this show!! I wish they could continue it!! 😌
It's not discontinued...
@@OnceUponAnIsland so they’re still making the show?
I also love this show so much!! If I'm not mistaken I think there's a new one that was filmed just prior to Covid:)
@@mshockey73 They were shooting season 33 but then it was stopped after leg 3 due to Covid.
@@Lil_MizAttitude Season 32 just aired last fall.
Saw filming of amazing race filming in Puerto Vallarta recently in Oct.2022 teams ran by me on the Malecon. I was screaming go go. Patrons of an open bar saw the racers and were yelling too.
Would love to see a video on the family season
I noticed as early as season 12, maybe earlier they didn't always do a strict 12 hour rest period. Sometimes theyll do start times super early in the morning if the next leg has a flight so all teams can get to the airport.
Chris and Alex (s2 winners) were my dads childhood friends
PLEASE do a video about the family season, it’s one of my earliest memories of the show!
It is such a mess, I may make a commentary video all about it.
@@OnceUponAnIsland My parents were divorcing at the time and my 7-year-old brain thought if we went on the Amazing Race family edition it would save us. I can now vividly remember my mom saying "honey it would make everything worse." Man, how right she would have been XD
I want to know when the new season will ever come
When covid restrictions are lifted around the world.
I actually liked the Family Edition. It seemed exciting right to the end. Personally, I don't like it when they bring back teams who have already competed.
BEST SHOW ON TV
The secret I wanted to know is why an multi award show not have more seasons? As the years progressed, the months between seasons became more and more. I get it, currently we have the pandemic. And with the development of social media, it is very difficult to contain information/videos of races that are still running. At the beginning, as one season was shown, the next one is already being ran. Actually, my only real question is- will the Amazing race continue to run?
Season 33 was filming and after leg 3 finished they had to shut down due to covid.
Because any of those awards represent the present of the audience view, most of TAR's ones got taken by RPDR in later years, also, it is not healthy to have 2 seasons for year for such physical demanding show
Very interesting video! I never knew most of this stuff.
i swear in season 4 jon and al booked a flight then looked for (and got) an earlier flight... i feel like teams were allowed to change flights until s5 i might be wrong though
I am pretty sure it was only season 1 that had that rule.
Which season was where the first team has already left, but the last team hasn't checked in yet? (#13)
Season 11
3:05 "Black Family" 😂😂😂
I feel bad for Amazing race Family edition. I think a. Family edition can work but it needs to be adjusted and improved upon
That's how I feel about the locations and creativity. Amazing Race 7 is my absolute favorite season.
@@francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep Same here about season 33.
This is legit
I found it interesting that Phil admitted that the family season was a mistake.
I get a great sense of humility and kindness from Phil so I believe he would admit to mistakes.
Kevin and Drew! Kevin and Drew! Kevin and Drew! Kevin and Drew! Kevin and Drew! Kevin and Drew!
I've seen regular seasons of TAR that kids could do though (season 24 especially).
not included the accidents with the contestants & the crews...
I am curious when they travel by taxi, how can they fit 4 people along with the driver into 1 car when the team filled both seats in the back row?
3 people in the backseat, including the audio guy. Camera man sits in the passenger seat. I actually cover that in one of these secrets video with footage.
How do they book the flights the day off? Or are they already reserved for them?
We see them book the flights on the show, or are you referring to something else?
You really did a great job with your homework okurrrrrr 👏👏👏👏
The Black family story reminded me of Dave Chappelle's skit
Please do let us know when you hear about the secret of when the next season is gonna air.
They were shooting 33 and then Covid stopped them from finishing.
I know. That’s why that secret is so intriguing to me! I wish we would at least have an idea of when it will come back. Huge TAR fan here.
I love the amazing race so much
Thanks

I miss the competitive days of TAR. Everyone is so Kumbaya and helpful these days, it makes it boring. Bring back the back stabbing and cab thievery 😂
Yes like last season was boring cause most if the cast was on an alliance! Called the mine 5 and picked off the weaklings!
@@aliciacleeland2257 idr which season I first saw. It had to be within the last 6-7 years when this Asian team won. They were cutthroat. I liked them

I sure hope the producers finally have a 55 + older edition for us old fogies to really enjoy? unless they already have between season 30 and season 35??
Does anyone know how I can apply to be cast on the show? Is this show still on ?
They are currently on hold due to covid, but you can apply through CBS' website.
If i live in Sudamerica where can i find every seasons to see the amazing race

No podcasts were used. It was commentary from the dvds of seasons 1 and 7.

That would have made my day. 😀😀
do the backpacks really contain all the clothes the contestants use for the whole duration of the season? or are the backpacks just for show?
They really hold everything.
I believe a production secret is that they purposely allowed only 1 double-male team to race in season 5 because in 3 out of the 4 previous seasons, the winning team was a double-male team. Which in a way is why...
SPOILER:
Eric & Jeremy (Season 9 runners-up and 5-leg winners) weren't together in the Season 11 all-star season. Instead having Eric race with girlfriend Danielle.

On season 7, The Weaver family were the worst family because they bad mouth every opposing family, which including the kids
The Amazing Race vs The Farm
I want to know how the producers decide which legs to award 1st place prizes like vacations on. Like in season 7, there was price for first place on Leg 1. And then they only other time a prize was awareded to a first place team were the times Rob and Amber came in first. All the other times there was no prize for the first place contestants (obviously except for the winners at the end)
The travelocity prize was given as well, but it had nothing to do with which team arrived 1st at the pit stop. It just seemed really fishy that it was Rob and Amber every time. But when other teams arrived 1st they got nothing.
I was watching reruns.. it just occurred me that you never see them pee or use the bathroom.. you also never see them drink water.
In season 18 you do. A bathroom trip causes a team to lose.
Covid closed NZ for a longtime
Fairly interesting, but too many people talking over each other toward the end. I still have too many questions which weren't answered. I've watched every episode for many years.

@@OnceUponAnIsland yess totally agree, loved the earlier seasons!
The producers said they're changing the rules to disallow teams from helping each other during Roadblocks because of this alliance. I'm surprised this was never in effect after that whole Brooke fiasco in 28.
