The Fear, by Pulp

- I made this video for one of my favourite songs, using still photos. 54 of the pictures are mine, 26 (most of which are used in the quick montage near the end) are not.
The zooming can sometimes be jagged if your connection isn't great.
Thanks for the compliments, everyone!
I CLAIM NO OWNERSHIP OF THIS MUSIC.
lyrics:
This is our "Music from A Bachelor's Den"
The sound of loneliness turned up to ten
A horror soundtrack from a stagnant water-bed
And it sounds just like this.
This is the sound of someone losing the plot
Making out that they're okay when they're not
You're gonna like it
But not a lot
And the chorus goes like this:
Oh baby
Here comes the fear again
The end is near again
A monkey's built a house on your back
You can't get anyone to come in the sack
And here comes another panic attack
Oh here we go again
So now you know the words to our song
Pretty soon you'll all be singing along
When you're sad, when you're lonely
And it all turns out wrong
When you've got the fear
And when you're no longer searching
For beauty or love
Just some kind of life
With the edges taken off
When you can't even define what it is that you're frightened of
This song will be here
Oh baby
Here comes the fear gain
The end is near again
If you ever get that chimp off your back
If you ever find the thing that you lack
But you know you're only having a laugh
And here we go again
Until the end

I can't think of any other song that so perfectly sums up anxiety and depression "when you're no longer searching for beauty or love, just some kind of life with the edges taken off" - perfection. This song has provided the soundtrack to many a drunken lonely night for me too. I think it may actually be Pulp's finest moment.
it's a fantastic song, when you're there, you know exactly what he's talking about
When you're sad, when you're lonely
And it all turns out wrong
When you've got the fear
And when you're no longer searching
For beauty or love
Just some kind of life
With the edges taken off
When you can't even define what it is that you're frightened of
This song will be here
and it was
This song is the story of my life for the last 12 years. Cockers lyrics are incredible, the music is mesmerising ( as are all Pulp songs ) and so, so true. I have listened to this drunk and sober. Its even better when you are drunk ! LOL. I could write a book about this song and how it saved me on many nights.
" The sound of loneliness turned up to 10 " - superb, says it all when uve been there. UNTIL THE END !!!!!!!!!! Paul. Ireland.
The perfect companion song to “Creep”.
This truly is a perfect song. It may be my favourite Pulp song. They have made many fantastic songs over the years but this one really speaks to me. The music is amazing and Jarvis Cocker is my favourite front man of any band over the past 20 years.
brilliant video to a dark song
+Luke Moon Thank you very much!
Well, I bought Different Class when it came out, and thought it was my favourite Pulp album, 'till I heard This is Hardcore, it's much more strong as a whole imho... I know it's not a conceptual album, but songs are kind of connected with that "dark" sound they had those days. It's something special... the deluxe version is tremendous!
"...hardcore" is nicer indeed!
8 yrs ago but exactly!!
How about Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Liverpool album?
This Is Hardcore (1998) may be just a little below Different Class (1995), it remains a strong album, proof with this haunting track!
A new year has arrived and the past decade left us... in music... nothing.
Now Pulp returns, OH YEAH!!! C'MON JARVIS... KICK SOME ASSES!!!
most underated band
impossible to not listen to the whole song when you hear the first notes
GRACIAS MI CHAPARRA POR HABERME COMPRADO ESE CD EN AQUELLOS AYERES...
Fantastic song by Pulp, and great photography slide show!
Wow, this is amazing
Last 30 seconds gave me goosebumps all over.
I just cannot stomach some of the crap that is played now days by some of the more "popular Artists"I can hear them for a second and stat getting nauseated ! But this song I would gladly listen to it for the rest of my life every minute ,hour , day , week, month of the year !!!!
Top tune.
The version they did on the This is Hardcore tour was great. A band entirely in silhouette, one spotlight. Two Jarvis Cockers. Really wish it was up on UA-cam.
"You're gonna like it but not a lot..." - Rest in Pieces Paul Daniels
My thoughts exactly regarding anxiety and depression. And I think it's their best song.
Im addicted to this song damn.
The art of photography!
Thanks, much appreciated! And I LOVE Wickerman too. The video for This Is Hardcore is one of my all-time favourites.
The line "when you can't even define what it is you're frightened of" stuck in my head. That's how I feel now, lying in bed, door closed, I don't want to leave the room, but there's anything to be afraid of. Idk, it's not rational, I can't move, I know it'll go away eventually, but what the hell is it?
Anxiety can make a person freeze up. It's not always about something specific. You might want to speak with a therapist about it.
@@clauditoriumYeah, freezing up. I think this is the kind of problem that's easier to ignore/wait-out than to try and fix though. It's unpleasant but contained. And I really don't want to talk to a therapist
@@kb-zealot If the problem ever becomes less tolerable, you might want to consider it; I've found therapy to be helpful. But there are also medications that help keep anxiety at bay. Some people who suffer from it learn breathing exercises that help.
@@clauditorium Certainly, I might consider it. I might look into breathing excercises also
Exquisite song, superb video.
This is real, scaringly real..
You have a great talent as a photographer and doing the footage. Thank you for sharing this.
Aw, thank you, I appreciate that!
I shared your video, your talent merit to be largely known.
@@helisure2286 That's very nice of you. It's funny; I just rewatched it, and was thinking of all the ways I could improve it.
After seeing a lot bullshit of selfmade videos here really a masterpiece
Video and Music
Brillant fotos
Thanks
Awesome video to an awesome song! Amazing job!
Thanks, man, much appreciated!
I actually rank This Is Hardcore as their best album. Maybe it's because it's the first album of theirs I heard. I checked out Different Class subsequently and couldn't get into it. (Maybe I expected it to sound like Hardcore.) I need to give it a few more listens.
Master piece !
Luv
absolutely briliant!

-Mis-Shapes.
-Help the aged.
-Bob Lind.
-This is Hardcore.

@EddyAikau1 Thanks, that's high praise! I can't take credit for all the pictures, but I took most of them up to the 4:50 mark.
@ChandraZoso If you're referring to the song, of course I agree. If you're referring to my video, then thank you!
Bring back Brit Pop Boys.
@clauditorium When Jarvis Cocker is involved, there always seems to be a David somehow in the picture...
LOVE the song..sounds a little Mott The Hoople..ish
mott the hoople is sooooo good. I wish pulp would've done something with david bowie. Its too late now though
In effetti siamo simili
@huthut91 I agree completely.

@aabusetta I'm sorry, but I don't know you or David Dorrory...
This is the theme song to Jerry Smiths life.
@tomegranate The song has the same effect on me.
5.02 horrible picture and it's scary it's great song but a dark video
I hated DC too Brit Pop..... This is hardcore is just on another level and far superior.....thing is listen to radio stations like Absolute and they are playing the DC stuff ffs if they play a pulp song
