Pulp changed their direction with this album, I wonder whether it was purely Jarvis's brainchild or the rest of the band too. The song is the best on the record, Jarvis is already established pop-idol, confident, sleek, jaded. Here at his best.
A magnificent track. The influence of Scott Walker, circa "Nite Flights" is very evident through Jarvis' vocals. Sorry I never got to see Pulp back in the 1990s.
This song randomly popped up on my playlist after having not heard it in ages, and I initially thought I had stumbled upon a David Bowie song. I mean, tell me it doesn't sound like David Bowie?
Thanks for uploading this!! I'm having a RARE day where I'm actually NOT depressed & listening to pulp truly made it that much better!! XOXO ⭕❌⭕❌❌⭕❌⭕ ❌⭕❌⭕❌⭕❌⭕
I always thought this song sounded like Talking Heads. As always for Pulp the lyrics are funny...and true I think! I know a few ppl who like to "Party Hard" as they put it.
When I first heard Pulp I thought it was David Bowie. I live in a conservative environment, I can mention a lot of these bands to people and their response would be "what's that sh*t?" : (
Oh can you party with me? Can you show me a good time? Do you even know what one looks like? And I don't need to hear your stories again - just get on the floor and show me what you're made of.
Interesting to see all the Bowie comparisons, which I do get, but being a Pulp fan from early days I easily recognize Jarvis before Bowie. This tune has grown on me over the years and Jarvis' vocals are indeed spot on.
I used to try very hard to make friends with everyone on the planet. I've seen you havin' it, havin' it yeah but now you've just had it. Entertainment can sometimes be hard when the thing that you love is the same thing that's holding you down. This man is dangerous, he just shed his load on your best party frock. Before you enter the palace of wisdom you have to decide: are you ready to rock? Oh can you party with me? Can you show me a good time? Do you even know what one looks like? And I don't need to hear your stories again ust get on the floor & show me what you're made of. Just what exactly are you made of? Baby, you're driving me crazy. [x2] I was having a whale of a time until your uncle Psychosis arrived. Why do we have to half kill ourselves just to prove we're alive? I'm here whenever you need me & whenever you need me I won't be here. & have you ever stopped to ask yourself? If you didn't come to party then why did you come here? Why did you come here? Baby, you're driving me crazy. [x2] And do you really know want to know just how come you turned out so dumb? When the party's over will you come home with me? When the party's over will you come home with me? Now the party's over will you come home to me. Will you come home to me? [repeated]
@GoCubs3425 They weren't strictly Britpop but I think pretty much every British band from the 90s were influenced by them. They opened the door for bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, the Manics etc and gave leeway to a decade of British greatness. Kinda like the relationship between Pixies and Grunge. Again, they weren't part of the genre but the influence they had on the big American 90s bands is undeniable.
@GoCubs3425 it's not history, you're the only one i've ever heard saying the Stones were the ones who started it. Don't get me wrong, i love that band, but they weren't a part of the britpop scene, they were just a british alternative rock band who happened to exist around the same time that whole movement started, and that is not enough. Suede were first true Britpop band, and quite ironically the first band to get out of it too.
Pulp and Suede are by far the two best bands from the Bripop wave.
gotta love the cheesiness of pulp videos
It's funny how the cheerleader's dance moves reflect the lyrics of the song. Props to the choreographer.
Pulp changed their direction with this album, I wonder whether it was purely Jarvis's brainchild or the rest of the band too. The song is the best on the record, Jarvis is already established pop-idol, confident, sleek, jaded. Here at his best.
"Entertainment can sometimes be hard when the thing that you love is the same thing that is holding you down!"
i love the way he moves!
Great song, very mid-period Bowie with some brilliant, insightful lyrics by Mr Cocker. Outstanding video as well.
OMG!
I absolutly love that dance steps that he does...
and i love the song too..
I've just turned 35 & i know exactly what Jarvis is going on about.
Great track off the best album they ever did in my opinion
hey, hope you're doing great at 48 now. took a peek at your channel and your music and movie playlists are great, thanks a lot!
@@glissenin No prob thanks
Watching this clip and listening to this song again after so many years feels really weird, but in a positive sense.
This song has a groove and a half.
This man is dangerous he just shed his load on your best party frock.
A magnificent track. The influence of Scott Walker, circa "Nite Flights" is very evident

Hopefully you’ve been able to see them now!
This song randomly popped up on my playlist after having not heard it in ages, and I initially thought I had stumbled upon a David Bowie song.
I mean, tell me it doesn't sound like David Bowie?
Are we a different class " today 2020 , everybody?
Pulp are always great. Glad they're playing again this summer.
Cracking tune. Never saw the video until really recently
And I wonder if these are the same dancers who featured on the "This is hardcore" video?
Before you enter the palace of wisdom you have to decide are you ready to rock.
The band had transformed since their earlier albums in every possible way, and this is a great example of the change. Sounds like a David Bowie song.
before you enter the palace of wisdom you have to decide, ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?
bass is insane here
This isn't even a music video. It's just a fly-on-the-wall documentary shot in Jarvis' house c1998.
This is the most underrated comment here
16 people aren't ready to rock.
19! Makes me wonder...
Then why did they come here?
It's up to 33 now.
Reminds of of last nite in Notts watchin' the Chav's havin' it large at BZR!!
Pulp false start, fall from grace, fame at last, Legend!!!1
Thanks for uploading this!! I'm having a RARE day where I'm actually NOT depressed & listening to pulp truly made it that much better!! XOXO ⭕❌⭕❌❌⭕❌⭕

J.C. sounds a lot like David Bowie on this tune ! Still amazing though.
I always thought this song sounded like Talking Heads. As always for Pulp the lyrics are funny...and true I think! I know a few ppl who like to "Party Hard" as they put it.
great man, great band. :)
I like them both. They're different styles of song, with different lyrics. Both kick arse though.
Por siempre maravilloso pulp
I LOVE you Jarvis. 😊
It actually reminds me more of David Bowie than Roxy Music.
I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like Bowie around the Lodger era.
Reminds me of REM
When I first heard Pulp I thought it was David Bowie. I live in a conservative environment, I can mention a lot of these bands to people and their response would be "what's that sh*t?" : (

Now I need the guy. 😮
Anyone else reminded of Bryan Ferry & Roxy music?
Can you show me a good time -- do you know what one looks like?
I love the part of the ballon in the end.
hahahaa
This video is awesome, and in my opinion is enhanced by the terrible green screen/chroma key worke
😋
Me encantan! ♥
Aww poor Jarvis at the end.
Oh can you party with me?
Can you show me a good time?
Do you even know what one looks like?
And I don't need to hear your stories again -
just get on the floor and show me what you're made of.
I love him

Cracking song!

Yep, sounds like (Black Tie White Noise) Bowie.
he's actually a freak.. a freakgod!
I used to try very hard to make friends with everyone on the planet.
I've seen you havin' it, havin' it yeah
but now you've just had it.

Yes Jarvis, I'll come home with you!!!!

Jarvis looks like a happy Jim Reid

Opener 2011:D
scottt walker vocals
Jarvis cocker does his best Scott walker.

Damn, I always have to restart to get the aaaaahh, at the end.
good one!
Only Jarvis Cocker could stand in the middle of a group of cheerleaders and still command full attention...
PARTY HARD

@sonicadv27 ABSOLUTELY!

Hi Jarvis ❤
creepy, weird, but really good.
@sonicadv27 blur, oasis, and the verve were good too. but Pulp FTW!
Anyone know where I can find a good tab for this song???
This song. Killed it better than Bowie.
Jarvis
Jarvis would look like Julian from Clockwork Orange if he lifted weights!
FUCKING AWESOME
De seguro Jarvis amó el hacer este video.
I imagine Jarvis ploughed his way through about a dozen of them later on.
Oh yeah he would have drilled them like Red Adair.
no, he would have made sweet sweet love to them.
Dear Lord.
I dated a cheerleader once, freakin..... awesome.
bowie¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
/Who are you talking to?
weirdly reminds me of bowie in this vid :P
