Pulp and Suede are by far the two best bands from the Bripop wave.

It's funny how the cheerleader's dance moves reflect the lyrics of the song. Props to the choreographer.

Pulp changed their direction with this album, I wonder whether it was purely Jarvis's brainchild or the rest of the band too. The song is the best on the record, Jarvis is already established pop-idol, confident, sleek, jaded. Here at his best.

Great song, very mid-period Bowie with some brilliant, insightful lyrics by Mr Cocker. Outstanding video as well.

A magnificent track. The influence of Scott Walker, circa "Nite Flights" is very evident
through Jarvis' vocals. Sorry I never got to see Pulp back in the 1990s.

This song randomly popped up on my playlist after having not heard it in ages, and I initially thought I had stumbled upon a David Bowie song.
I mean, tell me it doesn't sound like David Bowie?

Before you enter the palace of wisdom you have to decide are you ready to rock.

The band had transformed since their earlier albums in every possible way, and this is a great example of the change. Sounds like a David Bowie song.

Interesting to see all the Bowie comparisons, which I do get, but being a Pulp fan from early days I easily recognize Jarvis before Bowie. This tune has grown on me over the years and Jarvis' vocals are indeed spot on.

I used to try very hard to make friends with everyone on the planet.
I've seen you havin' it, havin' it yeah
but now you've just had it.
Entertainment can sometimes be hard when the thing
that you love is the same thing that's holding you down.
This man is dangerous, he just shed his load on your best party frock.
Before you enter the palace of wisdom you have to decide:
    are you ready to rock?
Oh can you party with me?
Can you show me a good time?
Do you even know what one looks like?
And I don't need to hear your stories again
ust get on the floor & show me what you're made of.
Just what exactly are you made of?
Baby, you're driving me crazy. [x2]
I was having a whale of a time until
    your uncle Psychosis arrived.
Why do we have to half kill ourselves just to prove we're alive?
I'm here whenever you need me & whenever you need me I won't be here.
& have you ever stopped to ask yourself?
If you didn't come to party then why did you come here?
    Why did you come here?
Baby, you're driving me crazy. [x2]
And do you really know want to know just how come you turned out so dumb?
When the party's over will you
    come home with me?
When the party's over will you come home with me? Now the party's
over will you come home to me.
Will you come home to me? [repeated]

@GoCubs3425 They weren't strictly Britpop but I think pretty much every British band from the 90s were influenced by them. They opened the door for bands like Oasis, Blur, Pulp, the Manics etc and gave leeway to a decade of British greatness.
Kinda like the relationship between Pixies and Grunge. Again, they weren't part of the genre but the influence they had on the big American 90s bands is undeniable.

@GoCubs3425 it's not history, you're the only one i've ever heard saying the Stones were the ones who started it. Don't get me wrong, i love that band, but they weren't a part of the britpop scene, they were just a british alternative rock band who happened to exist around the same time that whole movement started, and that is not enough. Suede were first true Britpop band, and quite ironically the first band to get out of it too.
