    Live on SMBIslands out from Brisbane, we have heaps of, what I have seen and identified: Stone Curlews, also, Kookaburras/Kingfishers, Magpies, Lapwings, a variety of Honey eaters, Butcher birds, Crows, Willy Wagtails, Wild Ducks, Pheasants, Budgerigars, Owls, Sea Eagles, Hawks, all on our island but no Kangaroos or Koala's but we do have Snakes, even the dangerous type, Goannas, Green Tree Frogs, also Bandicoots, some introduced Guinea Fowl who roam around the island and unfortunately the pest, Cane Toads

    Beautifully well made and informative. Nicely voiced with unobtrusive, complimentary, gentle music. Nothing to fault except, pardon me, that there were parts where I would have preferred a moment without the voice over and music in order to fully hear and enjoy the call of each bird, rather than strain to hear it indistinctly under the description and or music. I also did appreciate and love the inclusion of other incidental wildlife along the trails, lizards, spiders, frogs, snakes, butterflies and all added to the brilliance of your work.
    Hope you keep enjoying happy trails and bringing us along. 🦜🦜🦜🦜🦜🦆🦆🦉🌿🥰

      Thanks for your kind comments Chook. Hope you got in out of the rain! Yes, your comment on the voice overs/music is a pertinent one. Unfortunately , because the filming is all done live, we can't always capture the birds' calls clearly. Often they're just not loud enough or there is competing ambient noise. We don't dub in any calls, so we have to make the best of what we've recorded. We try to strike a balance but it's often difficult.

    this is the best birding video i've ever seen - excellent photography , very informative, helpful subtitles with unfamiliar names (i'm in Canada) and unlike a lot of wildlife videos, the music isn't so overpowering that it takes away from the enjoyment of the presentation. wonderful, beautiful, excellent i can't decide on one word to describe so i'll just use them all. thankyou

    I can’t stop saying ‘WOW’ and ‘Amazing’ while watching your video. I got a question here, does Australia have Hummingbirds at all?

    • @alanadare7052
      @alanadare7052 Рік тому +1

      No we have no Hummingbirds. Their niche is taken by Honeyeaters which is our largest birding family. They do the major amount of the work of pollination. There are some very beautiful birds in this family but we have never seen a Hummingbird and would love to do so.

  • @bigred8438
    @bigred8438 4 роки тому +2

    Thank you for a really wonderful introduction to the cape birds. Is winter the season you went on this journey, and is it considered the best time to go up the cape? And do you have to ford any rivers to get to the Iron Range?

    • @alanadare7052
      @alanadare7052 4 роки тому

      Winter is the dry season so you can drive up. When the rains come around Nov/Dec the rivers swell and it's not advisable to try to ford them plus the roads are unsealed so become dangerous. They are usually closed anyway. We have driven up in winter and also flew up in summer for the best chance at the NG migrants. If you drive up in winter though you get a chance at Golden-shouldered Parrot and wonderful Lakefield NP. You'll love it. Good luck.

  • @Hummingbirder1
    @Hummingbirder1 3 роки тому +1

    Excellent vid, as usual! When is the off-season?
    Edit: it seems to be around dec-jan?

    • @alanadare7052
      @alanadare7052 3 роки тому +1

      There are two seasons, dry and wet. The wet goes from around Dec-March/April. The rivers flood then, cutting off the roads, but you can fly up from Cairns and there is a chance of migrants from NG like the Papuan Pitta. In the dry you can drive up in a well prepared 4WD , see Golden-shouldered Parrot and visit Lakefield NP on your way up. It's a wonderful trip.

    please only nature sounds instead of voice and music constantly a human voice s name of the bird on screen is sufficient and more beautiful and have patience w/film/videos it seems you are in a hurry, too bad The animals are more important than humans to see,heard and move.

    • @alanadare7052
      @alanadare7052 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks Mike. We appreciate you taking the time to comment. We do our best to use all of the original soundtrack that we can. Unfortunately, because there are only two of us, we can't control the conditions when we're filming. We often have to compete with ambient noise, aeroplanes, dirtbikes, wind, people talking etc. Also some of the birds don't choose to call. We don't dub the calls afterwards because we're only amateurs whereas professionals have a sound crew who record perfect sound track at ideal times like at dawn and then add it on to the film in post production. We would love to be able to do this but we try to make an interesting sound track that is not irritating but is second best to pure natural sounds.
