I think everyone should have a passport for international travel and some kind of ID for domestic travel. It’s for safety for all passengers! I never travel without a passport for international flights and always bring an I.D. for domestic.
Sometimes one can also need a passport for Domestic flights. They had an issue with this in Australia awhile back. (Maybe sorted now ?). Some people were boarding a plane in Sydney and flying to Perth (literally thousands of miles away, the far side of the Australian continent, about 5+ hours flight time). Although they had normal domestic id on them, like a Sydney/NSW driver's licence, because it was an "international" flight, as it was after a stopover in Perth Australia, going on to Singapore or somewhere, passengers had to have valid passports, even for just the domestic portion of the flight.
It's a technicality. Anybody who is not staying in a hotel (or anywhere with a reservation) is supposed to have some piece of paper showing where they are staying, which can be a letter of invitation. One thing we don’t have to worry about in Australia is people driving their cars over here 😂. We also don’t need to have our cars issued with a Roadworthy Certificate every year in Victoria, only when a car is sold or bought. It cannot be sold or bought and registered without one. Our compulsory third party insurance is included in our registration every year by the government and the car will be seized if unregistered. I find it comical how you get the 'stern face' treatment showing your passport going on holiday, while they're turning up in boats having chucked their ID's away & getting a warm blanket, a cuppa then a council house.
Everybody knows that. But Northern Ireland is. And UK and IE are Common Travel Area members (sort of mini Schengen area with also Channel Islands and Man). Which means a European national with no right to live in the UK could potentially use free movement rights to enter Ireland, and then cross into the UK undetected. So Garda has to assess the likelihood of this being abused, even if you are European national. Interesting little special situation.
As a common travel area there should be no need for a passport for people from the UK entering via an Irish airport. UK airports make the effort to make sure this doesn't happen to Irish people landing in the UK from Ireland and deliver the passengers beyond passport control. This is just jobs for the boys! Unnecessary.

"Every month, nearly 2 million cars cross the 500 km border ....." WRONG. First of all, cars don't do things on their own so CARS do not cross the border. They may be driven or carried on a transporter but they don't do it because they take it into their engine management systems to go for a drive one day. Many of the crossings are made by a small number of cars. You only have to be a commuter working typically 22 days a month and you will cross the border in the SAME CAR 44 times. Some people living close to the border make return trips several times a month to save money buying some things in the Republic, other things on British territory. Other people use their cars to make return journeys across the border several times a month to visit friends or relations or just to have a drink or for a mixture of all of those reasons. It would be an unusual month in which more than 100,000 cars are driven across the border. "2 million a month" would mean more than half the cars on the entire island of Ireland would have to be driven across the border in each month yet 90% of cars on the island of Ireland have never been driven anywhere near the border.

Strange. I thought Canadians could travel to Ireland with no visa. So, why would an invitation from anyone be needed?
It's a technicality. Anybody who is not staying in a hotel (or anywhere with a reservation) is supposed to have some piece of paper showing where they are staying, which can be a letter of invitation. It rarely ever gets checked but technically you need one.
This applies to all non-EU nationals visiting Ireland visa free (except UK nationals).
Why would a Canadian want to stay in Cork? Has the immigration officer even been out of sleepy city?
They did say that some people sneak into the UK through Ireland, so that's one reason.
@@LoayMatar The situation seems to have reversed. Ireland is reporting that illegal migrants in the UK fear deportation to Rwanda and are taking the ferry to Northern Ireland as a route to the Republic, which offers more comfort and security.

A formal letter of invitation is a visa requirement for Ireland.
@@hilaryb8807 She holds a Canadian passport so she's visa exempt. I have a brother in Ireland (Irish citizen) who comes to visit me in Canada every once in a while and he never got questioned about an invitation letter, all he's got is my address and contact number.

@I tend to visit Spain (Canary Islands) for holidays and because the UK doesn't have I.D. cards, (like all other British nationals) I've had the only option of using my passport to cross EU borders.
It always seemed to get me better treatment than EU citizens, travelling only with I.D. cards.
Up until summer 2023 that's been the case, despite the 'banner headlines' BRITISH PASSPORT on the document now. . .
Whats up with giving warnings?? why is that ? You failed to do something what you should have than its game over > pay the fine !!

If a car is found to have minor defaults it is issued with what is locally called a canary as the label stuck onto your car is yellow, you have a certain amount of time to have the issues remedied and it is illegal to remove the canary.

03:40 Britons dont need an international passport to travel to Ireland ? And from there they could freely infiltrate the entire EU ?
Flights from Ireland to a Schengen country would still have to go through border control.
Infiltrate? What are you on? Ireland is not in Schengen so a passport is needed to get to another country in the EU. The UK and Ireland share a common travel area and residents of each can live in the other.
There is no air flight I would ever take thinking of putting a passport in my luggage -- checked or carry on. Golfer was naive and if travelled much had fallen into bad habits.

In the EU and UK there are sensible gun regulations.
That's correct. You have to meet very strict criteria to become a member of an armed squad.
@@grahvisSo that's why police in countries like Germany, France, and Denmark usually carry guns? No guns for police is just a UK thing that rubbed off on them.
@@straightpipediesel The Irish police (An Garda) don't need to carry guns to do their job and only gun nuts from the land of Yankee struggle to understand that. An unarmed police force is, in fact, something that the Irish can be quite proud of.

Mick is irascible and rude, seemingly to everyone. Not sure he should be in a public facing role. I realize that if someone has something to hide, this demeanor can be useful in making them a bit more nervous, and uncovering it, but is that occasional benefit worth him being a pretty bad ambassador for his country to everyone he sees?
wtf is a letter of invitation? How absurd.
So don’t you need to show your passport and boarding pass when boarding the plane so if so how did his passport end up in the checked in luggage
It wasn't in his checked luggage, it was in his carry on luggage. There wasn't room in the overhead bins so they had stored it below. He says that in the beginning.
I find it comical how you get the 'stern face' treatment showing your passport going on holiday, while they're turning up in boats having chucked their ID's away & getting a warm blanket, a cuppa then a council house.
Ireland is not apart of the UK
yeah obviously..
duh
Everybody knows that. But Northern Ireland is. And UK and IE are Common Travel Area members (sort of mini Schengen area with also Channel Islands and Man). Which means a European national with no right to live in the UK could potentially use free movement rights to enter Ireland, and then cross into the UK undetected. So Garda has to assess the likelihood of this being abused, even if you are European national. Interesting little special situation.
Really!?….get educated

9:40 “it’s crazy to come into an airport without a travel document”.
Uhmm. No…. IT’S STUPID.
As a common travel area there should be no need for a passport for people from the UK entering via an Irish airport. UK airports make the effort to make sure this doesn't happen to Irish people landing in the UK from Ireland and deliver the passengers beyond passport control. This is just jobs for the boys! Unnecessary.

Don't drug drive then you keep everything no sympathy
What about the Ukraine cars with on tax no test not cleared
Why is it crazy to come to an airport without an ID? Do you go to the train station with an ID? Bus stop?
Do you need an invitation letter to visit Ireland?
If you are visiting someone in Ireland, you should send a letter of invitation written by them. The letter should have information about how they know you, the dates you are visiting them and why they are inviting you to Ireland. They should include a colour copy of their passport or national identity card
