Allen, I'm so glad I found your music. I saw a poster of you at the Baked Potato, finally heard you, and you have become my favorite musician. Your tone is amazing.
What you say at 5:51 is so true! I remember Don Mock saying we don't have to play "big fat voicings" all the time", and that it was cool to leave some redundant or neutral voices out of the chord. That makes quite a considerable difference, especially if you are working with a pianist, or another guitarist.
Mr. Hinds, thank you for your valuable advice on this channel. You, Tom Bukovac and Michael Landau became my favorite guitarists, by far, just because of youtube.
Hey Allen, your videos are very inspiring, as is your music obviously. I listen to your "Falling Up" album every day. What you are explaining about the tone out of your hands and connecting with your instrument makes absolute sense. I'd still be very interested in just watching you setting up the tone and amount of gain to your liking on your RedPlate, or Deluxe Reverb with a pedal or anything. I find it fascinating how your tone is so smooth, with the highend rolled off like you were mentioning, but at the same time the overtones just sing, so your tone doesn't sound muffled at all. I'd love to better understand how much of that is still your great playing, your instruments or maybe a little bit of a great sound from a Dumble style amp? Most likely all of it.
Beautiful tones and inspiration! Loved it and you just helped me minimize. Though, I don’t use a lot of effects. Thank you! What amp and delay are you running? Sounds phenomenal. Time to work on my right hand touch
I really wonder if there is something wrong with me? I see guys like you that I admire talking about straight necks and pretty low action and I go and do that. After a few months something happens and I put 10-11 neck relief and raise the action to high and it sounds 2000 times better instantly. Am I the only one that encountere this ? Great video !👍👍👍
I don’t think there is anything wrong with you. If SRV had played with light strings and low action it wouldn’t have sounded good…with his technique. There’s a certain percentage of playing to the guitar and what it can do well that is necessary. If you took the guitars of legendary players they would all play differently and so it comes down to personal touch and what you want to hear from your guitar.
Thanks Allen..... Great insight!!! BTW you got some pretty serious cracklin goin on on your vid. might wanna check your cords. I thought it was my system at first. 😎
Martinis? Everyone is so different. Maybe build up the left hand strength? I often test students to play scales without any picking and that helps keeping things very even and steady.
I studied with Allen at MI in 2003 and to my memory he used a standard jazz iii. But his right hand touch is so light that sound you are hearing is almost entirely from his left hand. Such a great touch!
@@jhesbol many thanks for the info on Allen’s jazz iii picks… you lucky devil yo have studied with him.. bet you are a tasty player too!! Once again, many thanks for the reply, much appreciated, Ray ( foxyjazzbopper)👍👍

Thanx Allen...
You have a nice balance betwixt your spoken and the Strat...

" The Essence of Special Playing it's Natural Sound Fx in Your Right Hands ". .. So' Good ... ☺😊😉/💙💙💙/👍✌👌👏👋
Great tone philosphy
I agree 💯
The conversation that gear companies don't want you to hear. Sorry folks, you can't buy great tone.

Magic hands!
Your kitteh seems relaxed by your playing.
And common sense prevails, thank you.

Higher action will give you more sustain
I hate super low action, I can't bend well.

It's in your system.
No.... it is not in my system. Check at 2:03 to 2:08. 😎 and through out the entire video. Sounds Like a dirty Jack of bad chord. No big deal. Thanks.
@@TimsGuitarWorldwithTimFeskorn yup - some crackling on the left speaker, through my phone, through headphones, and through my studio monitors
Allen, you're phenomenal, as usual!! You also have an extremely light touch when playing. Any advise on relaxation while playing/soloing, etc??

@@allenhindsguitar Great points!! Oh, my left hand is way strong, too strong sometimes.
This is driving me mad… anyone know what size/shape pick Allen uses??

For many years he has been using Dunlop jazz III black.

Just some reverb? Aren't you using a delay in this video????
I hear verb and delay, for certain.
Awesome! Beautiful tone and feel. And brother, you perfectly explained it. New Sub.
Thanks
