When I was younger I was chasing big fish but as I’ve gotten older ultralight fishing for gills, perch and crappie is now my favorite thing to do. Gills pound for pound fight harder than most. So fun!
Agreed! Nobody likes them at all around my area because you catch them trying to target just about anything else. But that's part of the fun to me, they are honestly the most aggressive fish I have ever encountered. Ive caught so many tiny rock bass on lures they had no business trying to eat.
Yes sir hard to beat the ultralight bedding bluegill game...heck any good bluegill bite. They've started at the local pond and I put in 2.5 hours last Tuesday and caught and released 22. Only 2 or 3 qualified for the the Dink Masters program. Plenty of 6-9 inch bruisers on 1/64 ounce jigs....Glad you had your sunglasses 👓 🕶 😎 on for the come-backer as the baseball gurus call them. I won't fish or let others fish without them. My old mentor preached often...You only get 1 set of eyes 👀. Blessings Ethan
The area you fished where you were shooting jigs under the trees looks a lot like my bank fishing spots here in south La. Narrow canals with dirty water, shallow but steep banks, and lots of overhanging trees. Loads of places like that around here. Tight lines!
I remember I was using a ranch hand horsefly teaching my friend how to present ultralight lures from the bank and I hooked a 4lb bass in a little cove on a lake using 2lb mono. We were absolutely cackling! Horsefly for the win!
10:59 Ethan buddy, I never knew, "F@%# around and find out!" meant, "FLIP around and find out!!!"😂😅 I love these videos with Debo, Jeff, and Paul. It would be so cool to join you on the water someday.
Michael, if you get to fish with these guys before I do, you had better save all the stories for a day of fishing with your favourite Canadian. That's me, in case you immediately thought of another Canuck. 😂
Wow i found mule from another youtuber and bought a batch of stuff and have been loving it. Found your channel and was like wow, another person who has heard of mule! how cool! and come to find out you started the company. Small world!
Dude! Like always great content, I really appreciate you finding the JDM rod through Amazon! I’m gonna definitely grab one now. I enjoy your excitement catching literally “anything that bites” haha. I’m the same catching panfish & trout here in Colorado!
Just discovered your channel. I’ve been big into ultralight fishing my whole life, and am looking into more lure options. Glad to find your channel and hopefully I’ll get some mule jigs soon.
@@FishAnything definitely, I got my personal best northern on my ultra light setup jigging with a tube jig for crappie. I didn’t weigh it but it was 35 inches. I’ve been hooked on catching big fish on small rigs ever since
2 Things: 1) I caught a 19.5" smallie on a white donkey jr on my ultralight yesterday and it was absolutely the most fun i've had all season and 2) we got on bedding gillies yesterday and had a blast with them too. I was having lots of short strikes on the horsefly but changing to the donkey jr had them choking it every time.
Caught a big smallie with the same setup this morning! Lost 2 big ones earlier this week in the same spot. 6lb braid + 4lb leader. Need to up the strength on the leader.
Rods ordered. I went with the Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish 6’7 Ultralight Fast action Gonna pair it with a Shimano Stradic FM 1000 6lb Spro 8x Finesse Braid 6lb P-line fluorocarbon leader Can’t wait to use it. When will your panfish and bass bundles be back in stock?
Dude that’s going to be a super nice setup!! The bundles will be back this summer depending on the variety. I’m getting the boxes back this week and some of my out of stock plastics are going to be closer to mid July.
Dear Mr fishanything luv the mule line all good baits. I like the horse fly under a bobber. PLEASE make a green pumpkin version!!! It's a great color in my area. Pretty Please 😊
Not sure from a material standpoint exactly how it works but it is definitely a different material than a standard mono. Sinks like fluoro and thin as heck, but not necessarily as brittle as fluoro from what I can tell. Maybe a tad more stretch.
There is only one other method that I find perhaps more fun for bluegill than ultralight spinning gear. Bluegill on tenkara is ridiculously fun. The 1/80 Mule jig feels like a boat anchor on my 12' rod. I am trying to make it out to the Black River with my 18' Keiryu rod for some river smallie action. It's just wacky having a rod that long that will bend all the way over on a bluegill. It's like fishing with a willow branch.
Depends on where you’re fishing and how you fish. Just like any other jighead, they can absolutely get snagged. THAT BEING SAID, the beauty of using smaller, lighter gear with slower rates of fall is that it will stay out of the cover better and doesn’t tend to bog down and snag. The head design is also made to keep the hook pointed up / flat so you’re not having it roll over and snag. So long story short, they are probably going to be less “snaggy” than some more traditional jigs. Lmk what other questions you may have!
@@FishAnything so I’m making a ul setup and I’m looking for lures I was going to get mule jigs and maybe a cheap kit of a bunch of plastics or something because I only have about 20$ left in my budget do you have a recommendation for a kit or lures or should I get more mule jigs
Since fishing your mule jigs and plastic I’ve come to the conclusion that I get more bites on 1/64 and 1/32. It seems anything heavier just falls to fast. Does the regular Donkey tail fit your 1/32? I tried rigging it and it’s looks like the hook isn’t exposed enough. I could be wrong and just rigged it improperly
Thanks Adam - the 1/64 can outperform the 1/32 at times when the fish are shallow or feeding higher in the water column. The 1/32 can help when they want a bit faster fall or are sitting lower in the water. The 1/32oz is on the small side for the full size DT however I have used it with success countless times. I would rig it shallower in the body of the bait so your hook point has more room, whereas the 1/16 or 3/32 you can go straight in the middle.
Do you prefer the spro braid or 2lb mono for max cast distance with 64oz jigs? Also what’s your favorite rod for max distance with that size jig? I’m using the 6ft TFO 2 with 6lb spro.
I was whacking everything from small bluegill to largemouth bass on these just this past weekend. Correction: on *this*. A single jig head and plastic lasted me all day on 15+ fish.
Hi, can I ask something about ultralight reel? so like, I have this cheap old spinning reel 500size with max drag 3kg, ratio 4:4:1, line capacity(mm-m) 0.03-105, 0.07-87, 0.08-61, weight 144gram, and I wondering can this reel spool in 4LB braid 0.074mm 100m?
@@FishAnything hey man thanks for the head up! It spool nicely, just anothr question, i accidently bought a 1000size reel with max drag 3kg but the reel weight like 224g do u think i could use it for UL?
Just bought $60 of Mule stuff and I'm already mastering the dink life! Great video as always Ethan.
Thanks so much for the support!!

The horsefly is the best bait in my opinion. They last forever and fish can’t resist them. God bless brother tight lines hope the family is well
Ion kno man that burro bug is candy
Double jig rig with Horse Flies is so much fun.
Dakota sunrise horsefly for life 🐐🤙
I love to hear how well they have been working for all of you! Thanks for the support 🫶🏽
Ol Ethan is hanging out with the riff raff!!
😂😂😂
Thanks Ethan really enjoyed all the videos from this trip! Debo, Jeff, Paul and you🔥.
Two more in the works!
"Dibs!" is the same reaction I have when my buddy says he sees a bunch of bluegill lol
Hahaha maybe I’m selfish in hindsight
So good!!! I wish my pond was clear like that, AND shallow spots for the gills.
I’m spoiled with good water in Michigan
@@FishAnythingsure looks amazing!
Rock Bass give me that same feeling. I have a few really nice Rock Bass spots and it's tough to resist hitting them every day.

That is exactly right. I really don't want a micro hook in the eye so I pretty much always wear sunglasses while fishing.
Nice to see DEBO join for the day over here in MI. :)
He is a good dude!
I love the horsefly and Mule jig so much, the sunfish and crappie have been loving it too! I like black & black in 1/64 oz the best 🎣
I’m sooooo happy to read this! Thanks for the support - glad it’s working well for you!

@@FishAnything I believe it was either creek fishing adventures, realistic fishing, or both. I can't quite remember. But great products man!
You’ve got me pulling the horsefly back out, I’m always using the donkey tail jr for bluegill but I might need to switch it up
I love both but I tend to go with the Horse Fly on slower presentations and the DTJ on moving presentations.

Hi Debo, I guess when you live in land-locked Iowa, you all have to fish out of the same little pond.

Is polyester line different than monofilament line? Isn't it all extruded nylon?

Do mule jigs get snagged often?

Hey is the Chet’s rig you have on a life jacket or storage for tackle and if so what is it
It’s an Old Town PFD. It had several pockets which you could put whatever you want in, including tackle.

The fancy polyester line is probably the highest distance, but the spro or Phenix iron feather braid will both cast it plenty far as well.
