The thing that gets me everytime I see a Miata detail (especially an older one like this), is that the detailer never removes the seats! This is literally 4 bolts and possibly detaching a couple wire harnesses. With the seats removed, you can clean the entire carpet plus make the seat cleaning easier. How do I know? I do it for my own 1990! 😉 That said, it turned out pretty well.
Time constraints, budget.. it’s different when it’s a personal car compared to it being detailed by a business.. has to make sense for both client & us. Also it wasn’t bad underneath the seats so no need for the removal! I do get what you’re saying though!
@@precisiondetailersllc5592 Sure, that makes sense. I guess I’m coming from a different perspective. I’ve done it so many times it just takes me 5 minutes max to remove them and another 5 to put them back. Similarly, I’ve changed my oil so many times that from the time I set my ramps in front of the wheels, change the oil/filter, and put my ramps back, it’s about 30 minutes. Car really looked great though!!!
The only way that Miata would have a clear coat is if it were repainted. Usually, you can tell a repaint 1) because there is a clearcoat or 2) because usually the black strip at the door sills is repainted over. This car still has that black strip. So I'm thinking this is the original paint.
I wish I lived close enough to bring my '93 to you. That's a wonderful job you guys did. I can't believe how great a shape the top on this car is, but the rest of it is all you guys. Great job!
We used an acid cleaner on these! Brake Up from Detail King to be exact. We did do some heavy scrubbing on them, using a toothbrush to get that hard to reach brake dust
They're advertising their service and methods, so no benefit to give all their secrets away. There are multiple how-to channels on youtube that have more indepth guides to cleaning/restoration
@@precisiondetailersllc5592 Merry christmas :). Honestly, I think I do. For an example might I suggest checking out the channel "Cutting Edge Engineering" - their earliest videos have some music playing and if you read the comments people suggested removing the music and actually adding more explanation of what they're doing. The channel gave it a go and evolved into what it is today - explanations of the work, commentary, and the noise of the job, with no music - and it blew up as a result. It's surprisingly entertaining and relaxing to just watch a professional work and get a window into their world. My humble opinion is that it's probably worth the experiment. Thanks again
Didn't see them clean under the pop ups. I didn't clean under mine until I was showing off how good my engine detail came out on my new to me1990-74000 mile, never detailed garage queen and I put the headlights up and, oh no-i missed those spots.
For this we used Tire & Whitewall cleaner from Detail King. We dilute it 50/50. The trick to getting the rubber hoses/boots to look brand new is to use a tar remover on a towel after the engine is dry. It takes off all the brown gunk and it makes it look like fresh new rubber
My friend, that paint is so thin cause it dosnt have clear coat... so there is only one layer, not two like witch clear coat. That is why you have more paint on modern cars, and of course you have similiar thickness of material you can work with like paint witch clear coat, for somebody who dont know, you cant go thru clear coat to the base color, that is a big problem.
Hey Petr, yes you’re correct, this single stage paint is simply the basecoat(color) and clearcoat mixed together and applied at the same time. New cars are base coat then clear coat, so 2 separate steps. At the end you said you can’t go through clear coat to base coat, you absolutely can burn through clearcoat.
From the factory, Mazda paints were so thin you had to be real careful of what kind or polish you used. Even Nufinish would take paint off a Miata even if there was no oxidation.
Much improved! For domestics up until the 80s single stage enamel was most common. Some foreign makers used lacquer especially British cars. Clear coat technology wasn’t great in the 70’s. Japanese through the 80’s might have used mostly SS enamels. My shops started using 2 stage urethanes as of 1982ish. Cost was high so most customers wouldn’t pay that much. We did 2 stage lacquer in California until the State mandated us to stop. It was for show cars and up to 10 layers. 4 base 6 clear. Lots of wet sanding.
Yes this is single stage, i might’ve just said clearcoat if you’re referring to when I was talking about the paint depth gauge and i said something about burning through!
I wish I could’ve gotten his reaction but he was out of town when we delivered his vehicle back to him. As soon as he got back home he called us and he was astonished at how the paint looked. He said he didn’t even realize how bad it was before we got it!
You know, for its age there was remarkably little actual wear on that car. I don't think there could have high mileage of use in bad environments. A second fun car that spent a lot of time in garage. Had to be a lazy or very busy SOB to let such a patina of dirt accumulate inside. Good for the business though!
Hey Urban Rednecker , thank you for your concern. This is single stage paint, meaning that the base (color) and clearcoat and mixed together and sprayed at the same time. So yes, there is a clearcoat IN it, not ON it.
The Miata is in MINT CONDITION! It wouldn’t take much to make it look new! No dings scratches, rust spots or anything that would take some work. Hell a bucket of soapy water and a wash mitt I could make it look new!. You really should show cars in worst condition. My apologies but you didn’t show me anything.
@@precisiondetailersllc5592 Sorry buddy but if you really want to show your skills show us something that takes some effort. Hell even I pull my wheels off and clean behind them and take about 15 minutes in each fender well. I have two piece StopTech brakes so I take care of them and the rest of the vehicle my Dady didn’t give me my vehicles. Out of all the vehicles I own owned over the years I’ve only listed 4 for sale. Most walk up to me and ask if I would sell them my vehicles. 🙂
I never thought I'd be too poor for a real 90s JDM shitbox. But the Miata shows that even old slow cars can become pricelessly expensive. 🥲 I really hate growing up in that generation. Just when you start earning your money, houses and such small cars become too expensive.
For a preservation detail, that Miata looks practically brand new.
We think so too, isn’t it amazing what some detailing can do for a vehicle like this?!
All it needed was a vacuum.
It's like going back in time. Beautiful job. 🥰

same can be said for any car tbh; theyre all just some bolts and a harness.

My 1996 lost most of the red paint in areas. Primer showing through. This one looks great. Awesome job!
Sounds like you’ve got some petina 😎 thank you!
Absolutely beautiful job. Having owned the same car in the same color since new this was a thoroughly enjoyable video. You do very nice work!
It look lovely. I have an identical MX-5, I hope it looks as good when I get it detailed bext week.
Fingers crossed!

Beautiful job guys, love the original Miata’s 👍
Thank you. A true classic for sure!
For sure they are, I remember one of my work colleagues buying a brand new MX-5 in 1990. I knew then it was something special 👍
Looks amazing!!
What product Did you use on the rims?…fantastic mines looks opaque as your before the detailing..thanks

As Peter said the video is more geared towards people in our area searching for a service like this, not so much a how to
Awesome transformation.
Great video, love the effort you go through to bring it back. But any chance you could remove the music?
Hey Thomas! Do you prefer to hear the machines running over the music? Will keep that in mind for future videos if that’s the case! Merry Christmas!

I just hate the lack of foaming when cleaning the brakes and tires lol it’s so satisfying!
What a shame the paint layer was so thin. Still ame out great!
Wait a minute, this one was in “terrible” starting condition!? That darn thing was in better condition than 80% of the Miata’s being sold nowadays aha
Fine job 32 years old
Thank you
Thanks Albert, the owner thought so too! Thank you for your comment and have a Merry Christmas!
Cost ? I have the same exact. Thanks
Looking to buy same car i found one with 133,000km automatic for 5k with safety done by i wish it was manual but they are around 9k where i live
Sh yes the old miata yellow ash tray.😁 Ive tried everything to get mine black again. It just keeps turning brown
How much do you guys charge for this?
