I'm just about to build a spray booth, but my design had the extractor fan in the middle. I, like you, am right-handed and off-setting it to the left is a stroke of genius my friend. Well done and keep up the good work ,-)
Bathroom exhaust fan, simple safe quiet and effective what a great idea. I never would never have thought of that it's perfect New subscriber and new to modeling after a 50 year hiatus.
Add binder clips to the base to hold paper towel sheets. Binder clips have a hole in them, use binding posts to hold them. For about $2 you have a system to hold a replaceable paper surface. Wet it down with water when you paint and it will keep dust out of your paint.
Good idea. You could wire up a in line lamp on-off switch. I would get the large version, easier to wire up. Just cut one side (power side, none rib side of 2 wire cord) of the power cord & attach to screws. I cut off the cable from non working appliances (toaster ovens, vacuums, mixers, etc...) & make short switched extension cords (used with soldering irons, airbrush compressor, anything without a switch) or make up switched power cords (like for the fan).
Wonderful video, you've likely saved a lot of people a lot of money in both terms of something pro and medical bills, this sort of thing is what UA-cam does best, thanks so much.
Nice build! Like you, I'd like to start back up on scale modeling and want to play it smart this time by building a spray booth. Great idea offsetting the fan to account for your dominant hand! Thanks for the ideas!
Wow thats really clever, great job and thank you for sharing! I’ve watched many of these DIY vids on these and you explained it the best ( really easy for me to understand) and I really appreciate it 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻
Great booth I built one like you did , used tape to seal the sides. Your method of using caulking to create the seal sounds much better thank you for the tip 👍
Man I appreciate this video I'm getting into model railroading. And I've been looking into airbrushing and booths. And I see it would be cheaper for me to build my own spray booth . Thanks man!!!!
Good stuff there bud it is always intersting to see other modelers set up.Ive been off and on car modeling for approximately 6 years but still intimidated by the airbush. Thanks for sharing.
This is actually kind of amazing dude, great job! I'm really limited in space for painting and modelling so I need something I can pop on and off my desk easily, but all the store bought booths are so chunky and we're just now getting top or side mounted exhausts. I might have a look around and see if I can do a similar job with the stores I have here in Australia.
Looking to get back into modeling myself and need a paint booth. This is a simple design. I'm going to build one like it. Love the bathroom fan idea. Thank you.
Good setup. You might even be able to use just a basic 120MM PC fan with a smaller filter if you want to lower cost. 50CFM seems pretty powerful for a box that small.
Man you have the best setup yet... High ceiling with a proper filter, and you sealed it. Everyone else just screws stuff in with leakage. Brilliant. I'm gonna have to follow this, and try to add hinges to make it portable/foldable.... I also dig that you knew how to direct your fan because of the right-hand dominant position. You're super big brain.
Nice work! I’m going to give this a try. I’ll need to figure out how to vent it, perhaps just up to the attic of the garage since the filter should catch most of the paint.
Looks good I heard these hand are fine with small painting projects just not good for spray cans because the fumes can ignite since the electric motor is in front
Love your booth, man. And I love the detail about offsetting the location of the fan to the left because you're right handed. I'm going to use that idea!
Great job! I was wondering if you still smell paint when spraying? Reason I ask is just because the extracted air has to make that right turn out of the fan housing. If you are wishing you could move more air, (if it is even necessary), I think I have seen in-line extraction fans. You could fit one close to your outside exit point to increase airflow. Hope this makes sense.
I've moved my booth to the right side of the vent. I also wear a respirator while I spray. I don't smell anything. I always let the fan run a little longer after a finish
Nice build. Much more sturdy than my cardboard box and, vacuum cleaner bag filter, computer fan and good old method of “plug switch”. The only advantage mine have is that it’s pretty much a box that you can pack with paints and put on a shelf.
Looks like a great simple build! Out of curiosity, what is the size of the box? I built a booth ages ago, and I recall it was great when I started, but I quickly realized the height was too low, especially when I added lights to the ceiling...
Hey, that's badass! I was looking for guides to make one for my own minis. Whats the purpose of the painters tape? is that just to keep layers of paint and material from forming on the wood?
Nice job on the DIY spray booth. I see you got one of those fancy foldable spray booth in later videos. So does this DIY one not work for you? I'm debating whether to make one or buy one. Like to get your opinion. Keep up the good work!
You made it seem like an exhaust fan is optional. I never used an air brush before, but I received a kit as a gift and my acrylic paints arrived today. I chose acrylic over enamel because it’s easier to clean, and I figured the fumes would be significantly less. Would you suggest I include a fan, regardless of acrylic or enamel?
It is optional. You can just make a Booth with no Fan. Especially if you're just spraying acrylics. Just something to catch the over spray from the paint. But if You're spraying more harmful paints, you need a ventilation system.
Extremely creative and a really impressive creation. The only thing that concerns me is your choice of fan. Is it a zero spark motor driving it? I have my doubts as this fan cost $17. You are at great risk of a spark igniting any flammable fumes you may use from a rattle can or alcohol and enamel based paints not to mention thinners. I highly recommend you do due diligence on the fan rating to avoid a possible accident which may cause injury or burn your house down inadvertently. Please check on this. I noticed your "dad" sign by you work station so you clearly have children in your house. I wish you all the best and hope you look into this ASAP.
The main Reason I don't use Rattle cans at all. I mainly use Water based acrylics about 98% of the time. Any other time I'm just testing a paint color. But Tamiya acrylics and missions models acrylics are my Main paints
@@moesscalemodelbench9688 Tamiya acrylics and X-20A thinner aren't water based and contain isopropanol and glycol ethers which are extremely flammable. I noticed the thinner on your work bench. Totally not trying to be a killjoy, brother. It's because I care. Vallejo, the Army painter, citadel and AK interactive are are a few lines of water based acrylics that will be safer.
If I may gentlemen, We have a discussion going on over at Scalemates with the same topic. Most of your household exhaust fans for the bathroom are sealed and explosive proof. One surefire, excuse the pun, way to find out if a fan is spark proof, is to operate it in a completely light free room for a couple of minutes. Now, squirrel cage and brushless fans are the gold standard. Spray booths have been built over the eons with all sorts of fans. You do want to error on the side of caution, sure. But, in some 50+ years of model building, that’s right, Boomer Alert, I have never seen or heard of an exploded fan. You also have a new subscriber, Moe. Welcome to the community and good luck with the channel.
Do you have a problem with the filter clogging quickly? I built a booth and have a really killer fan but don't want paint on it, so I use a similar filter cloth but it gets covered quick and then the fan doesn't really suck the fumes out as good. I haven't been able to find filters like you use here in Thailand, so I'm using what I could find.
When I used this booth, I would change filters for each Build. They're cheap at about $4 per filter, or even cheaper. But it never got clogged up and I mostly Use an Airbrush. Of course if you're using Mainly spray cans it will get covered a lot quicker
@@moesscalemodelbench9688 Thanks, maybe I need to change it after each one too. I use an airbrush, but sometimes when I just need to paint something small quickly I'll grab a spray can.
The only problem with this is having High Voltage AC fan near wet items, and it does not look like it is grounded with all that metal and conductive tape? I would not want to use it.
Looks good. I bought me a respirator off ebay for $20. Some of those paints are strong even with it on. I need to run me a vent duct like that. Is that a 71 Plymouth your getting ready to paint? Thanks.
Hi, I'd like to ask, do you highly feel this type fan with only 50cf suction power, is strong enough to blow/pull out All th4 fumes? I have pretty much the same setup. Mine is composed of a 64qt bin, this same fan, light filter and LED lights. However, I feel it isn't strong enough to pull the fumes out 100%. I just wish there was a way to raise it's speed.
I really like your booth. Straightforward, simple, but clever. You also did a great job at explaining the build from start to finish. Well-done!

I checked and just a little dust on the inside of the vent that goes outside of the Garge. Non actually outside.
