All you'll need is some cardboard boxes, tape and a box cutter. Oh and also this filter, this duct, this extractor fan, an FDM 3D printer and filament, a sheet of MDF, a circular saw workbench and clamps to cut the MDF to size, some magnets, a heat gun, contact cement, wood glue, LED light strips, a soldering iron, wires, a dimmer etc...
You just killed the whole market of overpriced hobby paint booths. A great process which is explained perfectly. Thanks for saving us a ton of money. :)
I can get something in that size, made from plastic and not cardboard for 60 bucks now. that is not expensive or worse quality than this cardboard one. So no, he did not destroy any market. He helps out the poor painters, maybe.
@@fckprc8149 congratulations on belonging to the 5% of the audience that can afford usd60 on amazon for a box. The rest is for the poor painters of course. You won your twat medal of social classing now, congratulations for the public announcement of your outstanding character.
I'm in the process of building a cardboard paint booth and appreciate the solutions to issues I haven't even realized. But I have one issue; spray paint is going to cover the lights! Or did I miss that? I'm adding a small groove on the top of each box to allow a saran wrap roll to pull thru to keep the LEDs clean. To eliminate the possible build up of paint on the fan blades I'm utilizing the Ventura effect and a recycled computer cooling fan. These are powerful, small and very quiet.
I have watched over two dozen videos on building a spray booth. This is by far the very best one out there. Highly recommend and I will be using this video as inspiration to make mine. Thank you for posting.
Change the bottom filter brackets to have outer ledges the filter sets into from the top, that way you only need 2 brackets with rubber bands to hold it in place.
Anyone that is going to build this Please read my comment before buying the boxes. great job, thanks for sharing. One comment or suggestion to anyone who is thinking of building. I am in the middle of building the airbrush booth. What I didnt notice was the boxes you need. Most box's flaps are only half size to cover the opening. In the video , the box wide flap is big enough to cover the whole opening. I had to tape another flap to the large one to make it work. Im not sure where you can find a box like that. I found a heavy duty box at lowes that was twice as thick as a normal box. it cost twice as much too. but it defiantly stronger. for the filter mounts. i use a regular 4" brace and used two small bolts to mount to cardboard. the corner brace was two exspensive to buy 4. perhaps if you find them at a discount store or flea market. I didnt want to pay $6 for 2. as far as the exhausts mount. i doing something totatly different. I will post photo's when Im finish
This is a fundamentally great design that lends itself well to customization. I was about to plunk down a lot of money for a professional fume extractor box but this is much more practical for my needs. It's perfect for 90% of the modelling out there except for those big ship modellers. For you multifamily condo hobbyist, you can add a charcoal filter on top of your existing filter to avoid complaints from your neighbors.
If you go to your local scrap yard you might find a over the stove fan and make one of those into a home made spray booth. I have came across a few of them I put one on my metal grinding table to catch the metal dust it seems to work well I have to change the filter often. For painting I'm shire it would work well it sucks the food smoke from the stove top why not paint. Plus they're at the scrap yard tossing it out for a few buck's or they might even give it to you? Stove top fan will work well for a home made booth. I'm shire a card board box with a fan behind it will work too.
A tip. We often find odd sized furnace filters on clearance. I mean dirt cheap. Especially large sized ones. Which can be cut down for use. Saves time and money
I read another post about regarding the filter. Inset it into the booth so it’s flush. Then you have no need for 3D parts. Listing links for the lights, dimmer switch, ventilation supplies and the drying rack would be extremely helpful. Other than those small nitpicks this is an excellent video. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the input mate👍I´ll have a new video out next week of «diy airbrush filters» so I´ll make sure to list the links before that. Cheers and Thanks for watching😉
i built one of these out of scrap lying around a few months back as i was getting into airbrushing and while it gets the job done, i've been wanting something that looks and works better and this is exactly it! now the family can't complain about 'the fire hazard' as they've dubbed it in our hobby room!
I've built a similar cardboard box spray booth and they really do work well. Also doubles as a useful space to store and use your airbrush cleaning gear. *** Cautionary note - be sure to only use a brushless or "spark-less" fan. Many fans (and I think this includes computer fans) have brush motors. You absolutely do not want a spark to ignite an extracted stream of volatile paint vapours. Test (outside the building!) by spraying a cupful of lacquer thinners at the filter. If you don't explode you're good to go :)
Hey do you think you could recommend a fan system that fits those categories you mentioned cause I’m having trouble finding one at a good price, especially that it seems all of them are in the $70-100 range and for those prices I can just buy a pre made booth
@@fenri3261 If I recall correctly I bought an AC current bathroom exhaust fan that was brushless. I'm in South Africa so I can't really say what's available in your country, but I think it was in the $25 price range.

Fans from 90s-00s were "brushed". It's decades that even the cheapest pc fan is brushless. And of course using water-based colours (like most AK, Games, and some vallejo) doesn't need any flammable thinner, just adding water to dilute them. 100% safe.
This was elegant and inspiring to watch. Whenever I get motivated to build one, I will definitely use your model and template. For now, saved into my favourites
Great design. I chose to make the body of mine in plywood, it's a little heavy but I needed one with a 900 x 600 mm base for some large models and didn't want to risk sagging when I fit some LED light strips to the top. Fortunate that I bought my eldest son a 3-D printer for Christmas 18 months ago!
A quick tip for people that do not have access to a 3D printer but still would like such a vent connector. Such connector pieces are also what you often find on old mobile AC-units. Especially over here in Europe we have a lot of mobile AC units with an exhaust pipe. Those parts I always tend to remove when my old AC units broke down. I'm sure you can find similar inexpensive brackets or fan-housings in your local Home Depot style stores if needs be. 🙂 But this video is definitely a keeper as those spray-booths cost €100+ easily over here; so I'm definitely going to follow this and save a ton of money to make this cheap one out of cardboard and some computer-fans from my spare parts box. Thanks a lot for sharing!! 👍
This is awesome. My kid saw it and had to have one. She's quite pleased with her spray booth. Thanks for the instructions and stl files. Now we just need to find an led rack stl and we'll be set.
Nice job and so important. As a kid, I was always making models and things. That is to say, exposed to all sorts of chemicals. Then as an adult building props and sets. Beautiful design! I've been looking at commercial booths and other DIY booths and I think yours is among the best. I might customize a bit and use some corrugated plastic instead of the cardboard for the structural walls, but otherwise I'll be following this plan pretty closely!
Thank you so much for the feedback👊Love it when other makers have a use for the stuff we make👌and customizing it is a great idea since this was always supposed to be fully customizable. Cheers and have a great one🤩and watch out for a new video next week with that making of diy airbrush filters.
Great build and tutorial. Are the STLs for the LED rack available? Hilsen fra Nordmann I Stockholm
Thanks UA-cam for feeding me this 👍🏼 Nice build and very well presented. Will have a look at your other videos.
Cheers
Nice job on the spray booth, do you have the STL for your led ceiling light assembly? Which LEDs did you use and dimmer?
Well done.
Sorry buddy, dont have the files. I used a plain 12V led-strip and a simle potentiometer from e-bay as a dimmer.
Have you had any issues with the curtain being down and keeping the ventilation on? Add a second filter to add airflow when the curtain is down. Thatll keep it dust free
Absolutely adorable. 🥰
Gracias por el video!!! Una duda, el tubo de ventilación va hacia el exterior de la casa? Gracias!!!
Thank you very much for this great airbrush DIY idea.
You are very welcome👌Thank you🫵for watching! Make sure to subscribe and don’t miss our next video coming out soon (related to this one). Have a good one🤩
This is very cool. As a complete beginner, I would like to have more information on the exhaust fan. I have no idea what I'm looking for at the hardware store.

This is just genius, I'm going to have to make myself 1 thank you
Very cool, Im going to build this for my shop.

Terrific design and presentation.
Thank you so much Mr. Bear😀 Have a good one, cheers😉
Excellent stuff I’ve just got back into model making 👍 the last model I made I was probably 13 ish I’m now 61 😂😂 I’ve got plenty of time on my hands these days and if I do something I always try to do it to the best of my ability, you’ve come up with some cracking ideas and executed very well plus this looks as much fun to build as the models themselves ☺️☺️
Thank you for a super video 👍

same here!
Broham that is just fantastic!!! 👍 Will definitely be building 2 of these.
I like this. I think I'm going to try to build my own. I'm thinking to coat it in flex seal, to water proof it, but also because spray paint won't stick to it.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you!!! This is a much better design that what I've got. I made my back compartment a lot deeper than you did, this makes good sense what you did.
Looks like a good idea to re purpose an old tube tv box into if one can be found 👍🏻
Very clever designs. Love the rubber band method for holding the filter.
Thank you for share with us your idea. Congratulation, simple, cheaper and functional.

I need a dyi for sound and vibration from the compressor, this is sweet though. I might have to give it a wack, made mine out of the styrofoam inserts of my toaster oven.
That sounds awesome. Excellent out of the box reusable thinking (pun intended)👌Have a good one
