- If you are a modeler like I am, and you use an airbrush regularly then I am sure you have at some point in time looked into buying an airbrush paint booth with exhaust fans. And I am sure that you have also balked at the prices they ask for these paint booths. Most of them are not even that big. Well Like you I don't want to spend my modeling money on a spray booth when I would much rather put that money towards a locomotive, or a couple of slot cars, pretty much anthhing then a spray booth. Well I took a look at how they are made, then looked around at what materials I had at hand and figured that I could build one super cheap. And I did. I had to buy only one item to complete my own paint booth. It was actually pretty simple to do, so come and check it out.
Here is the link to the Spray Booth files.

Super glad I got your video recommended into my feed. I had just bought a 20” box fan and filter from Walmart to make a diy ventilation system. I have lots of spare computer components from when I used to build them and lots of spare plywood. I’ll just need to buy a 12v battery pack and use 18650s I have laying around as well.
Awesome. I love thinking outside of the box re-purporsing what most folks would just throw away. Take care and thank you for watching my video and commenting.
Oh WOW this couldnt have come at a better time!
Genial. good look are simple but functional. Great Work.
How is the flow rate? I built a spray booth with a 4” inline fan in mind but the one I have just doesn’t work with the filter, it barely even pulls smoke from a match nearby it. Rather than dropping a hundred or more $$ on a higher cfm inline I’m considering rigging up some kinda pc fan array (I have a ton of them laying around the shop) and 3D printing an enclosure for them with a 4” connection. 🤔 great build btw! Loved the video
Well, let's just say, "it sucks". Ha. I haven't tried the match test yet but when I did use it I could not smell any paint at all.the pc fans move a lot of air. Heck you said you have some. Rig one up and see of it helps.
@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies it’s one of those instances of should I use precious hobby time to fiddle with it or just breakdown and buy the inline fan that I know will work with it haha 😅 the cheapskate in me says to tinker and save the money but the hobbyist in me wants the time for actually working on hobby stuff for once lol such is the struggle of adulting 😂
@emmamarx9284 Tell me about it. I took a vacation this week to fix a leak in my campers shower and get it cleaned up for one more camping trip this year. Well today is Thursday and do you think I've been in the camper yet? LOL.
@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies oh no! Haha I wish you all the luck with that and hope you get some camping in! Thanks for the great videos!
@RoadsAndRailsHobbies Not shabby at all sir. Thanks!
Thank you very much...
@@RoadsAndRailsHobbies Thank you sir. I am not a beginner. I saw a lot of you. But i am picky. From the ones i try to learn the best (other than gastanks what a 6y orld can). I follow a few and still learning. Wish you all the best and keep sharing bro. 🤘🏼🤜🏼🤛🏼
I find laser cutters to be really cool also. I'd like to have one, but I really don't have the spare money or space to have one.
I started with a cheap diode that I bought on a black Friday sale for around 275. I know that's not cheap but compared to what the nice c02 ones cost it was. I used it for several years making stuff for people and saving evert penny until I was able to afford the 80 watt OMtech that I have now. I find myself using it more than my 3d printers, which I've used the heck out of. They are an amazing piece of machinery.
Looks like it will work fine and last a long time.
I hope it lasts awhile. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Subscribing because of the great content and to support a fellow Lefty!!!!
Is it possible I get your set of files I like your changes
Sure. Click on my email link on my channel and send me a message then I can attach a zip file for the light burn files.
Perfect if I can find it lol
Found it and emailed you thanks!!
Also do you know what the largest dimension is offhand my laser is 400 x 400
@jfl14420 I do not. I just also I just saw your email. I will send the file over when I get home from work.
Okay so either I buy a $200 from Amazon or a $5000 laser to build my own?
Definitely buy the laser. You don't need a laser for this project. It's all straight lines. If I didn't have a laser o would have used my table saw. But any type of saw would work.
Are PC fans safe for solvent based paints?
Well sir, I have absolutely no idea. The fans that used have no control boards on them, they are literally just coils and magnets like our old slot car motors. So I kinda doubt it will hurt them. Great question. 👍
I shall replace my cardboard box with this.... Thanks for the video.
You can always just use a nice cardboard box from one that amazon sends you and its alot cheaper then having to buy a laser printer to do one, but none the less its a good video thanks!
No doubt. I used a box for years... I actually use my laser for my business. I simply have never found the time to design a spray booth from scratch, but when I came across these files for one on Thingiverse I figured, why not. And thank you for watching. It was a fun and quick little project.
Now, can we make it with hinges. Setup, use it, fold it over, take it down. 😂
Ummmmm. No. LOL.
Kinda of funny $1.25 build with a $100 light
So maybe not really $1.25 since nobody can recreate it.
I don't understand what you mean by a 100 dollar light. I mean yes I used a 3000 dollar laser to cut out the box, but as I even mentioned in my video that it can be cut out by hand. I just happened to use the tools I have. So anyone really could make this.
Hello,
The comment asking about the fans being safe for solvent based paints is important!
Paul, I think you read the question as if it might damage the fans?
The concern is electric fans that aren't explosion proof can ignite certain paint fumes!!!
Pau, you need to be safe from fire and those who might follow your lead need to be safe!
Best Regards,
Jack
And this is why I love having folks like you watching my videos. I never paint with anything other than acrylic paints, so that topic never crossed my mind. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Paul, you could improve the design by moving the nuts that hold the filter below the spacers using lock-tit then put the new wing nuts on the top as you planned and then you would not have to remove the back to put a screwdriver on the screws. Just a thought
That's a dang good idear. I will definitely do that when I find wing nuts for the bolts. Thank you very much.....
